A welcome as warm as the latte, honestly, couldn't have been better. I like the bookshop anyway and it's always clean and friendly but Kat and Jen always go that extra mile to make me, and my family, welcome. Even when it's busy, they keep everyone happy with kindness, efficiency and great spacial awareness. Brilliant! The coffees good too.

Most of the younger staff are friendly and helpful, but manageress (i presume by the way she treats the other staff) is not. Much pleasanter when she isn't there, and the other staff are happier. I used to go daily. I don't any more. Staff have left because of her bad attitude, and so have customers.

This seems a nice cafe, lovely coffee, and staff were lovely, but only criticism is that the food (cakes, teacakes, cakes) is left sitting out all day. There is a small pane of glass over some of them but they are still open at the back for flies and dust. Especially the teacakes/scones are sitting there for everyone in the queue to cough and sneeze over. So if you get a scone it might have been sat out for a couple of days. They need to be in glass 'domes' or a larger glass cabinet or fridge. The other bugbear is staff handling money then touching your food without washing hands or using gloves. Its a shame because cake was really nice but i wouldnt eat there again until they sort the food hygiene out. Coffee was great!!!

Lovely place to come for a quick brew in the midst of town. Nicely tucked away, with cosy chairs and tea & teacakes it's a great place to chill out for an hour in the middle of the shopping centre....

This is a place I often call into if I'm shopping in Sunderland. Since it became independent the difference has been amazing - gone is the faceless, generic chain & now it's somewhere with character. The main reason I'm writing this review is to highlight the fact that they are one of only a couple of places in Sunderland who know how to make a true Flat White coffee - it's a joy to drink & I always savour it because I know through experience that so few so-called 'barristas' understand what's involved. Well worth a visit for their expertise in this alone.

Tucked upstairs in Waterstones bookshop in the shopping centre this is a favoured lunchtime retreat. Bang in the city centre but being tucked away upstairs you don't feel like your in a shopping centres. Nice teas/coffees, light snacks, cakes all at decent prices.

This cafe is now independently owned and the difference is wonderful. It has a warm welcoming relaxed vibe with lovely food and drink and comfy chairs.

Quick note before review. They only accept cash. I wanted to try it as it is a lovely setting and bakehouse. I went in at 10:30am and fancied some quiche off the menu. It wasn't ready (wasn't cooked). There really wasn't anything that made it a bakehouse on the day. I ended up having homemade broccoli and stilton soup and a old school corned beef toastie which was quite nice.

Family of 6 of us visited for brunch - myself and my husband with my grandparents, uncle and aunt. My Gran had booked a table ahead as she knew that this place gets busy (although it wasn't too bad at the time we arrived). Ordering food and drinks was easy enough and prices very reasonable. Good choice of food which was really tasty when it arrived. Very friendly staff.

Attended a party here last night, Terrible service and drinks. The staff were miserable definitely no service with smiles in this place. I do agree with the last review, the staff need customer service training. Gin with a warm bottle of cheap lemonade for my first drink, Then I got a glass of Warm Prosecco (which I was advised by the staff that the party guests were drinking far to quick so can’t chill quick enough)🥴 Then I received a flat dreg from a different kind of Prosecco bottle which I had to send back. Then I noticed each round of the same drinks I was being charged different prices. When questioned I was told I should be lucky that I have been undercharged the previous time🥴 Good job this place is at the bottom end of the town so it was a 1 off visit, I’ll not have to visit again.

Service not well organised, coffee is tasteless. Overpriced for its coffee quality.
