Weston Tavern in East Ayrshire

Visited on the 28th of December ordered the lamb curry which only had 3 tiny pieces of lamb my wife ordered the chicken crepe both very bland waitress never even asked if everything was ok the popadom was covered in oil very disappointed with this visit

I was out with three friends on Friday night. The dinner we had was awful. Mashed potatoes you could probably have sucked through a straw. Vegetables were all mixed up on the plate and the gravy was almost running over the edge if the plate. Not good at all

Absolutely gem of a place, staff were great, food was fantastic and even the Tennants lager was the best I've had in many as year. We are going to be coming back and forth to the area for the next year or so and I have found my go to pub for food and drink, well done all.

Absolutely spot on been twice with my sister recently.

The steak pie was delicious and a very generous portion. I should have got a certificate for finishing off the Eton Mess - wow, just about finished me off! Huge. The roaring fire and a lovely black Labrador were both what a great pub should have. Will be back.

We had a great time here on our first visit. We had very good staff service, very comfortable seating in the lounge bar. Our dog accompanied us, was made feel very welcome and got a free dinner bowl and water too. Our food was marvellous, very good size portions. We will definitely be back soon! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

A really nice family run pub with friendly atmosphere, gorgeous food and even 18month old black lab Billy got a free meal. Highly recommended

Fantastic meals and very friendly staff and locals (including doggies!) A beautiful building - so historic and clearly cared for with a lot of love and pride. Wonderful menu too, highly recommend!

This place is rustic, it does need a bit of a refurbishment but the food is great, the service is brilliant, the prices are fair with big portions, the atmosphere is good. First time in the Weston tavern. The food was first class tasty and good portions The service was very pleasant,clean .and the rime from ordering to service could not be faulted. The only down side was the ladies toilet. It was clean but toilet paper very cheap and hand dryer useless. Will go back if in the area. Don't know the bill it was paid for me

Lack of staff or they we not attentive enough at the tables there's more atmosphere on the moon than this place and it was pricey £38.95 for a bottle of prosseco come on its a village pub.food also expensive for what you get we won't be back.

Great dinner sitting outside catching the lovely sun, both had the salmon and all I can say was absolutely outstanding.

Heard great things before visiting and hoped to find a diamond , was Farley good enough to say we found fools gold. Arrived and were seated in the bar area felt vibrant friendly at first , ordered drinks then food owners dog du was wandering about begging at tables , as much as it was a nice dog and accept dog friendly but not wandering about begging at your table. Plates were bulging which should sound great but wasn’t I had chicken Cajun crepe 4 bits of chicken in it the rest was peppers sauce and mush the salad had defo been out all day all brown Tmd the edges , partner had penne Arabiatta and it came fully loaded with Parmesan wasn’t an option genuinely never seen so much smelly feet cheese on one plate , sweets I avoided took 4 attempts with 2 waitresses to order a double brandy such took 15 mins to arrive partner a ordered small Eton mess was all cream 3 bits of fruit. Bill was 100 quid and the food and service certainly didn’t justify it , to many young staff no management a bar man that can genuinely only do 1 drink at a time on a busy Friday night , to finalise toilets were minging floors were swimming in BC what I guess was piss hand towel dispensers ripped off walls , dirty stickers saying wash your hands made me chuckle as my hands were way cleaner than anything in there. Really disappointed as menu read great but won’t be returning and if travelling to it please consider elsewhere it’s not the village gem you hope to find .

Great place. Good was well priced and delicious. The staff were friendly and always engaging with customers. Definitely recommend and will be returning to try more dishes

The food is first class and a lot better than some so-called top restaurants we have been in. Everything is cooked to order, so it can be a bit slow if busy, but we'll worth the wait. My top choices are fillet steak, Chicken Sizzler with Cajun Sauce, Tai Coconut Curry, Scallops for starter or Black Pudding pakora.

The food is amazing and massive portions! Highly recommend the donuts. John is a legend!

OMG !!!! Really gone downhill !!! Disappointing.......is all i can say. £19-45 for steak pie ,with no fresh veg. Staff nice ,however a good update and clean is needed. Sat at the window ,and the fan was blowing cobweds.onto our table. Used to be the best ......not anymore.

The table which we had pre-booked was ready for us and service was prompt and efficient in this family run establishment. There was an option to eat in the bar or the retaurant at same price and we choose the calm ambience of the restaurant. Food was freshly made and portions were very generous. First time we had been there, following recommendation from a friend and we would be happy to recommend to others.

We were there for lunch it was delicious. The staff were exceptional looked after us well. I would certainly go back to the Weston. Thank you will be back soon.

Been twice in 2 weeks. Once was 50% Steak Night on a Tuesday and the other visit was on fathers day. Food is delicious, portion sizes generous and its a lovely place, highly recommended.

Sunday lunch was delicious and the portions very generous (braised steak and chargrilled salmon). Staff friendly and attentive. The courtesy car driven by John was a bonus. Even better - mobile phone dropped on the floor and only discovered when we got home was delivered very quickly. Excellent customer service.

Had a very enjoyable visit and was a very welcome, friendly experience. Michaela and Shona serving in the restaurant were very cheerful and attentive, and Robbie on the bar kept us well watered. Food was of a good standard, generous portions and was nice and warm. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon.

This is my second time at the weston tavern . As an ex chef I get fed up going to places where the food is mediocre. NOT HERE we have had nice food on both occasions last night we had the cajun pancakes which were delicious and the portions size were massive will definitely go back . I only gave it 4 stars would have been 5 if the toilets were kept a bit tidier. So regular cleaning and you will get top accolade from me .Brian Taggart

Return visit to the Weston today for yet another wonderful lunch. The food was delicious and extremely high quality. The staff are very friendly and couldn’t be more attentive. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with log fire. Their beautiful, friendly dog Doss will welcome you in. Although they do always check with customers that they don’t mind Doss being there…..we always encourage her to come and sit with us as she is lovely, and we are doggy people. We had 2 mains, 2 desserts, 2 beers and a bottle of wine. A very reasonable £70. You really can’t do much better than that. They even provide a courtesy car that will pick you up and take you home if you live within a 10 mile radius! ( This is only available on certain days when driver available). Would highly recommend to anyone to visit this amazing gastro pub. You won’t be disappointed.

Only recently decided to try The Weston after passing on the way to and from work. Signs outside caught my eye and the menu had some different choices from the norm. Booked a table and we were not disappointed. Food is amazing and freshly cooked. As good as anywhere we have ate in Scotland, and a lot better than some fancy restaurants we have been in. Staff are friendly and nothing was a problem. Sizzlers are amazing 😀. 5th visit in a few weeks tonight and it was superb.

Great lunch, quite quiet when we arrived, but got very busy over a short period of time. The steak pie was excellent and the braised steak was very tender. Two Real Ales were available and the IPA was very good.

Went in for a late Sunday lunch. Excellent macaroni cheese though heavy on the garlic bread. Prices maybe a little on the high side but the staff were very friendly. Found ourselves listening to the Sunday afternoon karaoke session, great atmosphere

The Weston is our go to restaurant. Food was great, as always. Service was great kept us in the loop as we were a big table, 14. What I love about the Weston is they source a lot of the food locally which is great for the local economy. Last but not least a special mention for the landlady, Dos, meeting and greeting. Went with my sister for lunch as it was midway from where we both live. The vegetable pakora was so floury and stodgy, with a salsa dip - that's not really a dip - couldn't eat any of it. I ordered fish and chips, it was OK but a bit greasy. But I've felt nauseous all day since eating. The service was abrupt and not very friendly. Overall, below average and hugely overpriced. Restaurant was also cold and everything felt a bit sticky. Won't return.

The food was excellent. Both dishes were very large portions. Also visited on a Wednesday evening where they give you a free dessert when purchasing a main meal. The only downside was that the service was very slow between courses, and the booth table was very tight. Opt for a floor table for some extra space. Despite this, we will definitely go again.

Decided to try this place after seeing it was #1 on tripadvisor for the Kilmarnock area. It was very quiet - we were the only customers in on a Saturday night, so the ambience was non existent and sadly the music was very depressing (break up songs etc). Not the ideal atmosphere for a date! The food itself was very average. The service was nice - not too over top and friendly enough. Honestly the whole experience was not bad but I am struggling to understand how they have ended up with such a high ranking on tripadvisor. I can imagine on a busier night the experience may have been very different, but based on our visit, I wouldn’t rush back.

We enjoyed amazing fish and chips on our last visit but have tried various dishes from the extensive menu. We have never been disappointed. Atmosphere is great and staff very welcoming and friendly. In the bar afterwards always enjoy the range of beers . Particularly like the selection of local craft beers.

An excellent night out with incredible food as always. A fun and interesting quiz kept us here longer and was absolutely worth it! So much fun was had here and can't wait to come again. Sticky toffee pudding and the donuts were a must have!

Went as a group for an 80th birthday celebration. We all ordered different things and it was managed perfectly. Service staff were really good and gave advice as needed. The food was delicious with good sized portions to even suit the big men in our company. We will definitely return. X

Visited here for impromptu lunch with family. The place was half empty-but they sat us next to another table of people. We could hear every bite they took as there’s no music or noise. The place was absolutely freezing so once we ate our meals we left. Too cold for dessert. We had ordered a veggie burger which was basically a vegetable (mainly potato) croquette in a bun with salad. Had to eat with knife and fork given its mushiness. It also cost £16:45 for this. Ordered a macaroni which came with a small side of bread. I’ve attached a photo of the portion size. This cost £17:65 which was ridiculous. It smelled as though it needed a good clean. Although the waitperson did come over when we were eating to spray the table next to us with a strong smelling cleaning fluid so we ate that as part of our main. Was recommended this place today by friends and travelled to visit but with these three mains (one steak pie) and a soda water costing £56-we wont be back.

Well where do I start…. My wedding meal was here at the Weston Tavern with our family and friends. And our food was absolutely delicious. We were made to feel so welcome, as were our guests. Nothing was of any trouble and every guest who ate a meal with us commented on how lovely the meal was. The lentil soup was delicious, turkey dinner perfect and sticky toffee pudding…. Wow. The service and hospitality was second to none and I can’t wait to dine here again very soon. The restaurant was very cosy and my husband and I appreciate all the personal touches which made our wedding very special. Staff even offered local transport to take guests home and to our evening reception due to weather conditions. A must visit if you live locally or are passing through. Thanks again to you all.

Unbelievable. We went for Festive Lunch as a work team. The food is absolutely exquisite, the portion size generous and the staff and ambience delightful. This really is an absolute Scottish gem and you would be an idiot to drive past without stopping in. We could not have been happier upon leaving.

We recently revisited the Western Tavern in Kilmaurs for a family gathering. Despite a mix up in the booking, there was a lack of communication that we were bringing our dog along ( our fault) the staff rearranged the setting to accommodate our party of nine. The service was great as was what we had on our plates. I had the salmon and it along with the vegies was scrumptious ! Yes, we will return here 😊

Yummy 😋😋. I had the large nacho with chilli . It was a small portion but was delicious, dare to think what large was like. My Dad had a sirloin steak with the chips cooked a few times with peppercorn sauce , haven't seen him clear a plate since my Mum's cooking. Yum 😋

We visited last weekend, the service and the food was excellent, the place was busy which brought us back this weekend however it was a completely different experience. Same food ordered as the week before tasted completely different, presentation poor and not as enjoyable. Sadly we won’t be back any time soon.

This was recommended to us.. but we wont be back..waited an age for a simple starter sized meal... food was tasteless and its very run down.. it needs a refurb.. even the tap on the bathroom sink was loose. seats need recovered as the vinyl was worn off down to the lining! no atmosphere and the waiting staff couldnt even manage a smile.. worst place ive been in a long time.

Got a voucher from my daughter and son-in-law as they know we love it here. As usual the staff were very friendly and helpful . They let my husband taste the special beers before ordering, which he thought was helpful. I hqd the vegetables fajitas...

Traditional Steak pie, mm not traditional when the gravy tastes like the Chinese takeaway gravy! Veg was smush, hand cut chips where more like extra large wedges undercooked and hard in he middle The weston burger, £23 odds, not worth it, not edible at all! Very little garnish on this burger plenty of grease, fat or oil dripping off it and topped off with carbon. The bacon was cold too. Service was poor, young boy had no clue what he was doing and it was left to the 1 lovey lady (5 stars for the lady alone) to take our order while the boy was 20 minutes getting 2 pints of coke, which would have been nice to be told its Pepsi as we would have chose another drink! 40-45 minute wait in an empty place for our meals where 2 other tables come in after us and had been served there's. Very overpriced for very poor quality food! Don't think I need to say I won't be back! Not sure how this place is highly starred on here but it's no reflection of the greasy gunk I was served! Oh if the owner feels this is a fake review I have the receipt table was booked under my name too 18:00 today.

Restaurant was very quiet when we visited on Tuesday 15.08.23 afternoon time we ordered from the grill menu as it half price on a Tuesday,food was very nice unfortunately we were missing beef from our order which the kitchen forgot to add ,the wait time was okay around 25mins as the place was empty though the atmosphere was a bit off the music was cutting off and on the seat are looking old and need some work .After the main we wanted a dessert we noticed on the menu bailey white chocolate cheesecake which sounds good to me but unfortunately after ordering was told it wouldn't be ready until tomorrow I personally think the kitchen and front of house should have communicated this to avoid customers thinking about ordering items that aren't ready yet.overall think i will go back to try other food to see .

A first visit on a CAMRA pub crawl. One of my favourite tipples, THEAKSTONS OLD PECULIAR on draught! Service was slow due to bar size, but staff very very friendly. Great wee pub. We now walk here rather than into Kilmarnock as its got a lovely beer garden area for people watching. Staff are generally very pleasant and the regulars keep us entertained. Really quirky inside and just an excellent pub.

Disappointing experience - despite some clear positives. The main problem was poor service - with a couple of young staff members ignoring us and the only woman on duty being over-worked and over-stressed. I tried to ask a few questions but they weren't really answered (due to stressed staff). Dog was allowed in but I wouldn't describe it as 'dog-friendly' - as no attention was paid (not a big issue but the tavern makes a big deal out of this). Food was pretty good but some strange portion sizes. Chicken skewer plate was very empty (no salad or veg) and yet the 'small portion' of braised steak was packed more than any of the main courses. Being next to the bar was a bit of an experience. Not particularly 'family' friendly and although the old guy being sick couldn't really be helped - it didn't make for a pleasant night. Despite the place being very quiet (Tuesday night) we were in the tavern for 1 hour 50 minutes and only had one course and one round of drinks. Overall some really poor service and a strange night. I have to say it didn't feel like value for money.

Took our family for a meal yesterday after having been ourselves previously the food yesterday was not good. I had the nachos and the cheese sauce was horrible more like white sauce with lots of pepper. The guacamole and salsa looked and tasted like it came out of a jar. My husband had salt and chilli chicken tempura and it was soggy and greasy. My daughter in law had it as a main and it was the same, not crispy and light at all. I had the chicken and bacon salad it was awful, lots and lots of green leaves peppers and onion, 3 tiny bits of chicken and the bacon was practically non existent. The dressing was not good either. I would have expected a full chicken breast and a couple of bacon rashers chopped through it, some croutons and baby tomatoes. The price they charge for it is a joke. Sorry but that is now of our list of places to go. Crazy thing is I was going to book somewhere else but remembered how good it was here about 2 months ago. I wish I had stuck with my original place as this ruined a nice family day.

Visited tonight. A friend had recommended here to me. So I took my mum and dad as treat. I wasn’t disappointed. Greated by friendly staff. The menu has plenty to chose from. There’s different offers on for different days of the week. Everyone enjoyed their starters. I had the Cajun chicken skewers starter followed by the fillet steak and peppercorn steak. Both courses were excellent. And even my folks polished off their plates.. And the portion sizes are perfect. So much so I couldn’t even think about the sweet menu as I was stuffed. A first for me! The staff also gave you time between courses, so you had time for the starter to go down before the mains arrived. All in, staff great, atmosphere great, food excellent. And prices very reasonable as well. A real hidden little gem. Will definitely be back sooner rather than later. And will also be passing on the recommendation. Cycled 20 miles from Ayr today to visit the local CAMRA pub of the year! Was not disappointed. The cask beer was spot on. The Spey Cadet at 4.5% was lovely and only £1.85 a pint with our CAMRA member discount. Bargain! The Theakston Old Peculiar at 5.6% was from a woid cask and delicious. Food was also first rate and the landlord and staff couldn’t be more welcoming and friendly. If you like good beer in a quaint old pub and good food to boot you should visit. Worth the 40mile round trip on bikes!!
