One of our party would have liked a burger but doesn’t eat beef so asked to pay for a bread bun on the side of the buttermilk chicken and fries - a big fuss was made and the waiter had to go to the kitchen and ask and they refused. All very strange and not very customer focussed - very basic request. Rather spend my money with a restaurant who go a little out of their way for my money.

Had a lovely lovely meal at the fat badger restaurant. Started with baked Camembert which was tasty with bread cubes. My husband had a fillet steak, cooked to perfection, & I had a ribeye steak, which was again cooked to perfection, juicy and very tasty. Both had peppercorn sauce which was not too strong and good consistency. Desserts were triple chocolate trifle & coconut rice pudding, both Devine. Service was good considering it was a very bust night . Atmosphere lovely. Thank you to all will deffo visit you again. Happy New Year

We were looking forward to an early dinner in the bar at the Fat Badger. However on arrival the bar was packed with no spare tables. We were told the same menu was available in the hotel dining room. The food and drinks we had were good, but unfortunately the dining room felt a bit starchy compared to the atmosphere of the vibrant bar.

Lovely building and location. Service is absolutely shocking. Not through the fault of the staff. Labour model looks all wrong. Loads of staff but seems to take ages to get served. Waited at least 20 mins for someone to even come over and take our first order and you have to shout someone if you want another drink instead of them coming over. Really strange set up. Disappointing visit on a Saturday night for parents 30th anniversary for drinks. Won’t be coming again.

We were initially a little put off by the pictures on the website as we were hoping for something a little more special than the pub setting for dinner as this was a very rare night away but we decided to give it a go after a review on here said the restaurant is a different area. It was lovely! The atmosphere was buzzy Saturday night chatter in a nicely lit and decorated room, the staff were incredibly attentive and the food was gorgeous. We had the sharing platter, fillet steaks and a cheeseboard, all was delicious and good value for money.

My husband and I ate here when we were staying at The White Hart Hotel and had a great evening, the restaurant is quite romantic with very soft lighting and candles, the food and service were great We both had fish, Hake and Sea Bass which were well cooked and presented. As part of the hotel package if we booked the restaurant in advance we received a free bottle of house wine which was very acceptable and a nice touch. The service was very good and the staff were very friendly. Would not hesitate to eat there again if we are ever in Harrogate.

Staying nearby (13th Nov) for one night trying out the newly refurbished Majestic that sadly is having a few teething troubles (refurb not finished, construction work still ongoing, staff need investment of quality training) as it attempts to get upto the high standards of the Hilton group.Anyway after various issues with our stay at the Majestic, onto our excursion escaping out to dinner at the Fat Badger grill. We were pleasantly surprised (and relieved) to receive terrific service and great food. We focused on seafood, bottle of NZ Cloud Island Sauvignon Blanc (£28) between us, I also had a pint of one of the various craft ales to accompany my starter of Moules mariniere.Starters approx £7-8, Mains £13-16. (Steaks ~£25)Main host was an ex-butler Harry, who has only just recently joined FB team, although you'd had thought he'd been there years such was his demeanor and composure. He was perfect in his attention to detail, great rapport with guests, polite and a real team player assisting the other nice members of waiting staff. I hope the owners of the Fat Badger take note, I am often quick to point out areas for improvement, but I also am keen to commend an establishment when they excel. No greater praise to say FB will be our first choice for dining when next in Harrogate. Thanks for a great positive experience.

Had a family meal recently in the restaurant, I presume this is this is the 'grill'. Would not dream of eating in the very busy extremely LOUD bar!In a lovely room with well spaced tables, service was prompt. Most enjoyed starters, I second previous review, where was the duck in the salad?? A few tiny pieces that you had to search for, dreadful value. The steak which lovely but at £24 should come with the sauce, charged at £2.40 extra - outrageous! The crumble dessert was delicious but came with a thimble of custard which was very mean and spoiled the dish. There should be lashings, at least enough to cover it. These things did spoil what could have been a great evening and would have resulted in many more visits. Sadly whoever is in charge of portion control should go!

The choice on the menu was good and the 5 of us shared 4 lots of nibbles which was perfect. The main courses were varied and all of them were very good. I have to say the food we had here was delicious. However the service was appalling. We were sat next to a table of women who were quite clearly the focus of the staff. Each time the waiter passed, no notice was taken of us, where as he flitted around the other table, ensuring their drinks were topped up and they had everything they needed. We were only offered one round of drinks and not given the option of having water for the table. When we were given the dessert menu, we waited at least 15 mins to be seen by staff again, despite me trying several times to gain the attention of the waiter. Finally managed to get his attention by waving my arms and calling loudly. By this time, we chose not to have desserts as we felt completely frustrated by the experience. When we paid the bill, we were told by the waiter we had underpaid (we hadn’t) and no offer of apology was given when he realised his mistake. It’s such a shame we had this experience because the food was lovely. Maybe if we’d been wearing sparkly hot pants too we would have had the same sort of service the other customers received....

Decided to eat here whilst in Harrogate celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. Ordered drinks and had to query the amount of wine in a large glass as the one I got certainly wasn't 250 ml. Larger amount took about ten minutes to arrive. Starters arrived and were excellent. Pork and black pudding terrine was wonderful. Then my " barrel of fillet steak" arrived. It was less than half an inch thick and seven or eight inches across. I've eaten steak all over the world. I know what fillet steak looks and tastes like. Indeed I buy whole pieces of fillet. I have never seen a piece of fillet served like this. Think tenderised sirloin without the fat. I asked the waitress who went off to check with the chef. She came back with "It's the way chef cooks it". I think chef needs to check his cuts of steak. Even the word 'barrel' suggests a barrel shaped piece of meat. Either that or Yorkshire has really really big cows!! Wondering what the hell we would have got if we had ordered the Chateaubriand! That said the food was good, apart from the small dish of watery peppercorn sauce, bit of a cheek charging £2.95 for a tiny dish full.

The Fat Badger was recommended by friends, so we gave it a try while on a day out in Harrogate. When we arrived we were greeted by Katie, she showed my friend and I to our table while the men were at the bar choosing from the real ale selection. Katie sat with us and advised us of the daily specials and the speciality Gin, which we selected and would fully recommend, although can’t remember the name, it was also a little expensive. Katie promptly advised the bar staff and the men that we had chosen our drinks. All the staff where friendly and attentive, the decor and atmosphere was modern, pleasant and relaxing. We were offered bread and olives while waiting for our meals, but were shocked at the price of these when they showed on the bill at a cost of £10. The food overall was good and my steak was exceptional. I contacted the restaurant the following day to ask the name of the gin we selected but they were unable to speak with the bar and suggested I email, I am still waiting for response 4 days later. Would fully recommend but would be cautious when agreeing to the bread and olive

So after much persuasion by a friend to visit the fat badger after not being in there for two years due to rude aggressive staff I decided to take the high road and give the place another chance .... looking forward to a girly day and a few bottles of champagne, we approach the bar and we wait and wait and wait...... yawn eventually we catch a member of staff eye to ask for the wine list to which we were practically get shh.... I might add there was five people at the bar, again we wait and wait and wait .... bar man eventually comes over gives us the list and says he will be back in a moment again we wait wait and wait while he proceeds to serve another six people by this time I've waited 20 mins I'm over it so we left nothing's changed staff are inexperienced with no leadership and I'm sure 5 girls drinking several bottles of £70 champagne might have been a welcome addition to Sunday's revenue... in short the service is terrible scruffy staff and I won't be returning again

Just got back from a 2 day stay in Harrogate at the White Hart hotel where the Fat Badger grill is attached to the hotel. We found the menu very limited, far too expensive and think the drinks are £5 really pricey. Breakfast menu is one price, even if you just wanted one poached egg, no discount for a lighter breakfast, we asked for extra toast twice and it never arrived. We could have almost had a week abroad for what it cost for the 2 Days... Harrogate is expensive and expectations were that it must good, not just mediocre, we won't be going back..

It's 2017 and you still go to places that don't have a decent option for vegetarians. Well actually they didn't have an option. They had some light bites that were veggie, but no main. And the fixed menu didn't have anything that was completely veggie. I went for the fixed menu option of pasta with tomatoes and Parmesan and asked for no Parmesan (as it's not veggie friendly). This got my back up straight away, as people may assume this is the veggie option when actually its not at all. I assumed that you can't go to wrong with pasta. Turns out you can. I got luke-warm pasta with mushed boiled tomatoes in dishwater. I genuinely could not finish it. I was going to say something at the end of the meal when they ask how it was, but they didn't even ask!! I don't like to complain, and as they obviously didn't care that there was still a full plate of food in front of me I couldn't get the courage to say something. I ended up going to the Sainsburys local up the road and buying cheese and biscuits I was so hungry! The meat option chosen by my partner was average, but ruined as he knew I wasn't enjoying mine. DO NOT EAT HERE IF VEGETARIAN!!

Brasserie / pub interior with a large bar & at first wondered whether it might be too noisy but despite being very busy it was great! We had a booth - one of several & were to attended to by great staff giving good service despite the fact they were run off their feet. Great atmosphere & plenty to look at- the animal prints on the walls provided plenty of conversation! The meals were fantastic- I had sea bream with a tomato fennel salad & new potatoes followed by a lemon tart with crème fraiche. I have to say we both thought this was the best place we ate in Harrogate over our 4 night stay. Would thoroughly recommend this eatery.

All were well prepared and presented and while not being outstanding they were good uncomplicated food, perfect for winding down at the end of the day. We had lots to talk about and the staff seemed happy for us to linger as long as we wanted. Much appreciated. We'd certainly go again when next in Harrogate.

Excellent evening at this cool pub nicely set out with some booths allowing a more intimate atmosphere. Both our meals were very good the roast crown of partridge was first class especially for a pub. Cocktails were excellent

After failing to get in at our preferred restaurant we tried the fat badger grill. How glad we were, dinner was great. Starter was good, then my husband had the duck with a side of chips he loved it. My seafood linguini was very good, muscles were sweet soft and delicious. Service was great and the bill was very acceptable. Not sure why the ranking of this place isn't higher on TripAdvisor in Harrogate.

I was staying foe one night in the hotel and decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. I chose from the specials list both starter and main course. Starter was locally foraged mushrooms on toasted brioche with a soft fried egg. Main course was hake with samphire, potatoes in a buttery sauce. All food cooked perfectly, presented well and served hot. Happy to return.

The venue is in a good position and it was the first time I had been into the hotel. The decor was classic and very comfortable. The service was good. The food was very nice and the children enjoyed theirs. There is a children's menu. The sticky toffee pudding was very nice! the prices were reasonable and we were made most welcome. a good place to eat at lunch time.

The food was lovely here - we had some little tapas dishes, it was super packed due to the really good weather so service was great considering how busy it was. The only thing that put us off was that when our waiter was over talking to us, another girl came over and rudely told him in front of all of us, to get on with his job, we realised it was busy and that there will have been a lot to be getting on with, but politely having a conversation with customers is part of the job too. We all work in hospitality as managers so it was quite a shock to us! Other than that everything was great!

We booked for a Friday evening meal in the grill. Service was fine at first, we were shown to a nice table and although we had to wait a while for menus (one large party had all of them!) we ordered a bottle of nice rose prosecco. That large party were a bit noisy through the evening, but that can't be helped, but the banging music noise from the bar area was far worse and very detrimental to any atmosphere in the grill. We ordered ham hock terrine starters which were very pleasant. For main I had cod which was nicely cooked. The potatoes it came with looked and tasted like they came from a tin, which I was not expecting and that rubbery texture was unpleasant. I'd ordered a side of "peas, mint and shoots", which, disappointingly, turned out to be just a bowl of lightly minted peas, no shoots present. Other half had rib eye steak with roquefort butter which was nicely cooked and I envied his chips.I'd have given a 4 rating up to this point but once our plates were cleared and we said we didn't want desserts we were then abandoned and had over an hour to wait before we could get the bill and it then seemed problematic to be able to pay by card (3 people stood over a computer screen for ten minutes). With the ambience being a bit off, we really just wanted to pay and go!Anyway, I may be being a little harsh, as the food was nice enough (apart from the potatoes), and the service at first was fine, but the bar noise spoiled it for us unfortunately.

After a day walking the streets of Harrogate it was obvious that we had lots of choices for our evening meal. It was by pure chance we overheard a conversation praising The Fat Badger so we decided to give it a go.What a fantastic choice we made, great food selections and a wide range of beers and ales to match.Add to this friendly helpful staff and a great evening was provided.Add the Fat Badger to your next trip to Harrogate.

Me and my fiance booked this table for 9pm on Friday without fuss or any confusion. When we arrived we were seated quickly and were told about the specials which in this case was lobster and a signature steak burger. I opted for the lobster which was lovely and my fiance had the linguine. Staff were attentive and very polite and the setting was lovely. Would definitely recommend.

We dined on the Saturday evening, the chateaubriand was the best steak I have eaten. Cooked to perfection and it was possible to cut with a fork. We also had Sunday lunch which was absolutely spot on.On the experience we had I would recommend the fat badger grill to anyone.

Firstly, The Fat Badger Grill should be confused with the adjoining lively bar (see other confusing reviews). The Grill is the restaurant within the hotel. It serves good food in reasonable portions. The nibbles are a good alternative to a starter - they are like tapas in style and tasty. The main courses are tasty and reasonably priced. The service is good.

Had a drink here before going up the hill for something to eat, a little expensive and noisey for us but good for the younger crowd.

A very nice restaurant within a hotel and next to a lively bar. The menu and food presentation was very good. The quality of the food was also very good. What let the restaurant down was the poor haphazard service.

I heard the fat badger 'grill' served great food and dogs were welcome. As we arrived no food was being served as the bar was busy and dogs were not allowed in. Go elsewhere as Harrogate has many other decent pubs.

We were staying overnight and were given a complimentary bottle of wine per couple as we had booked the two rooms separately. Three of us ordered the rump steak whilst our fourth companion ordered rib eye with a side of peas, shoots and mint. The side dish was delicious but her steak was sadly not. After much deliberation and all tasting said steak it was agreed that it did not resemble a rib eye. This was confirmed by the very apologetic waiter who had the grace to confess he had mistakenly ordered four rump steaks. The mistake was also addressed by having the cost removed from the bill. Great customer service. Desserts are also excellent and the cocktails in the bar are delicious!

Excellent scone (grandma’s recipe) and tea out of china cups. Unlike many other cafe/teashops in Knaresborough, it’s open after 4pm and dog friendly.

Apparently the chef went off sick. Fair enough, I know that things happen but to be told by a member of staff that they couldn’t contact anyone as they didn’t have any details was not true. I was asked for, and gave, my phone number when I booked so why make stuff up?
