Horrible experience there. Food was mid and the service, well I’ve never seen that in my life. I ordered meat and it came with seafood and it was never written or nor the allergens too. When I asked the server to see the menu again to tell him that I didn’t order that, he got mad and talked to us very badly saying it was our fault. Wanted to ask for the menu again and the guy said no. Then they gave it back without seafood and didn’t even say they were sorry. Wasn’t even good. I think there’s way better restaurants out there than this, especially when you get treated like this.

This is the overlooked gem in Chinatown and everything I've been looking for in London. Cheap, no frills but tasty food in good portions. Note it's cash only and, importantly, no service charge! Service might not be with a smile but it's quick and efficient. You're here to eat, not make friends. You are immediately given a pot of hot tea, free of charge, once you're sat (just sit wherever they tell you to). Plenty of chilli crisp oil and soy sauce ready as table condiments. The setting and food really took me back to Hong Kong. I'm really don't know anywhere more authentic!

Sister Ya’s service attitude has remained the same in Hong Kong for ten years and has never changed, so she is given 5 stars. However, ten years ago, the food was pretty good. Even though it was more expensive, the prices were still reasonable. However, the quality of food today is really poor. Fried rice with salted fish and chicken is ok with wok gas Salt and pepper squid powder is loose and oily Ginger and green onion oysters. The aroma of ginger and green onions is not noticeable, and the gravy is still watery. Alas, I felt very sad while eating. The sad thing was not because I ate something that was not good to eat, but because I saw Wang Kee getting worse and worse. I was so full of food that when I cooked it, I didn’t want to cook it anymore. Although everyone may not care, they all hope that Wang Kee can have a good image and eat well at the same time. Let his strength speak for himself.

Wong Kei is a no-frills, budget-friendly spot for a quick meal. Don’t expect an atmospheric dining experience or attentive service—this place is all about efficiency. Cash payments only, and the waiters are famously abrupt when taking your order. You’ll likely be seated at a communal table in a setting reminiscent of a 1970s canteen, complete with red carpet. Once you embrace the charm of its utilitarian vibe, you can focus on enjoying the food. Be sure to ask for the bill as soon as you’re done eating—lingering isn’t encouraged—then carry on with your day.

Do not go Won Kei’s if you are wanting 5 Star treatment with exceptional customer service, with an overtly pleasant atmosphere & especially if you are the type of person to be easily offended! However, Go Won Kei’s if you want a down to earth no frill's comical like service with lots of character, good food & price! After a good walk around on a Saturday evening in Chinatown/Soho, most restaurants had huge queues outside of them….me & my bro didn’t want to be waiting up to an hour or so, especially since it was cold outside, so we decided to hit Won Kei’s as nobody was queuing outside! It wasn’t crazy busy as we walked in and were guided upstairs to dine. Once we were upstairs, the main waiter there was setting up two spaces on a large round table to sit with other customers. When he asked us to sit there, I kindly declined & asked to be seated at a two persons table in which he said was perfectly fine. We just had to wait for a few minutes longer. Then our table was ready & we were very pleased as we were sat by the window! We had spare ribs and sauce, half crispy duck with pancakes, Singapore fried noodles & Sweet and sour chicken with rice. Everything tasted lovely and freshly cooked. The atmosphere and service was great! This place is the complete opposite of pretentious. I’ve never been to China but I can imagine that there are many places similar to Won Kei’s! And to me that is more authentic then a lot of the restaurants near there! The food has always been consistent and at good standards every time I’ve been there. Overall, out of 10…I give this place a solid 8.5!

Hard to fault Wong Kei, I've been eating there irregularly for nearly 30 years. I wouldn't take a date here but great for either a solo pitstop or even for a group - prices are cheap, portions are large, service is quick, and most importantly the food tastes great. The infamous Wong Kei, and that is it! The rudeness of the waiter started as soon as I entered the restaurant. I waited a bit to be seated and the guy just used his finger to point to the direction where to be seated. Without a word, the same waiter dropped the menu in front of me. Picked a duck dried rice noodle - taste was very blend and barely any duck meat, but I could taste lots of onions and bean sprouts. Damage was Gbp12.50, no added tip on the bill and of course CASH only for this restaurant. The usual no thank-you and bye - no human interactions whatsoever. To be honest, that was within my expectation, so Wong Kei did not disappoint me.

Honestly the reviews of people complaining are people who had expectations of a proper sit down restaurant, where as Wong Kei is a kitchen and a really bloody good one at that. The noodle soups that they are famous for are exemplary. If your looking to grab a quick dinner in Soho and trying to look after the pennies Wong Kei is your place. We had the wontun soup and the BBQ pork soup and they were absolutely amazing. So fresh and aromatic. We also got the quarter of a duck and pancakes to share as a side and it was again really delicious. No the service isn't super charismatic and engaged, but honestly that's not the service I enjoy. I don't need someone to pretend to be my friend while I order food. Good old school take your order, here's your food, here's the bill. Perfect.

In the won tun soup we found multiple strands of hair wrapped in the dough. The reviews are understandable on a 'service' level ... if you're looking for optimum hospitality/attention then this isn't the place for you but the service is rapid (granted - they want you out quickly due to the popularity and wanting the table back) but this is an authentic experience ... the food is EXCELLENT first and foremost (try the BBQ Pork on Rice ... it's not cold as the menu suggests). An establishment in London’s Chinatown. Recent upgrades have improved the lighting and increased the size of the wontons in the soup. Service is quick and not rude at all. The hor fun (flat rice noodles) has the classic slightly burnt taste only achievable in the fiery woks of an authentic Chinese restaurant. It’s been a while since I last ate at Wong Kei, but I won’t be coming back. I’ve just read in the news today that Wong Kei has been fined £42,000 fine after dead mice and cockroaches found in kitchen. During a routine inspection, council environmental health officers found evidence of mice droppings in the kitchen and storage areas, and mouldy food was found in the fridge. They also found sinks blocked by lettuce heads, grease dripping from cookers and mice droppings on the ground. At one point, inspectors witnessed cockroaches scuttling off after moving three chillers. The restaurant was issued a temporary closure notice in June last year. The court heard how this was the second temporary closure issued against the restaurant within six months.

We had the beef brisket noodle which was poor - meat was bland and tough - the soup a shadow of its former self more like dishwater than the aromatic flavourful broth I remember back in the day. My partner had the wonton noodle soup which tasted like the dumplings had supermarket sausage meat inside, the soup was dreadfully tasteless and loaded with salt. Maybe one of the unfortunate examples of a London establishment that has become the victim of its own success, owners too greedy or under pressure to cut costs or (I hope) more a case of a temporary drop in standards that will at some point recover. I wouldn't know though as I won't be back.

I had a terrible experience at Wong Kei. The service was abysmal right from the start—our server was rude and inattentive, making us feel unwelcome. The food was lackluster at best; everything we ordered lacked flavor and freshness. To make matters worse, they insisted that we purchase extra portions even though only 2 out of our 4-person group were actually eating. It felt incredibly greedy and unnecessary, just adding to the overall disappointment of the meal. I definitely won’t be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and go elsewhere!

“The waitress has a bad attitude and is unfriendly. Even though we’re both Chinese, they are treating customers poorly. I don’t recommend this restaurant.

**Terrible Experience – Avoid at All Costs!** I had the absolute misfortune of visiting Wong Kei recently, and I can confidently say it was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like an inconvenience rather than customers. The service was beyond awful—rude, dismissive, and downright hostile. It was like they went out of their way to be unhelpful and condescending. Asking a simple question about the menu felt like I had committed a crime. As for the food... I wish I hadn’t touched it. Everything we ordered was subpar at best, but that’s being generous. The food was clearly not fresh—flavors were off, portions were miserable, and some dishes had an unsettling sour smell. It was obvious they were serving old, spoiled ingredients. To make matters worse, one of my friends got seriously ill after eating here. We’re convinced it was from the chicken, which tasted like it had gone off. A night out turned into a nightmare thanks to Wong Kei. Avoid this place at all costs if you value your health and sanity. Horrible food, disgusting customer service, and potentially dangerous to eat at. How this place is still in business is beyond me. Never again. -

A very scary restaurant that only accepts cash. It told me that this is London and only accepts pounds. It really treats the guests as ignorant people. Could it be that the amount paid to him by my bank card is not pounds? This tradition will only bully foreign tourists! Definitely won't go again!

The dry-fried beef river is delicious and served hot. If you treat people more kindly, you can get five stars.

Visiting from Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦 and decided to have dinner here as most other places were packed or had long line ups. The bbq pork and roast pork was yummy. The beef brisket noodles was good too. Chili oil is a must!! Service was a bit slow but they were pretty busy. Prices were decent, but expensive for us, Canadians. Overall, it was enjoyable with good food and decent service.

Food was disgusting and expensive. Waiter was rude. Service was slow. Worst food I’ve ever had and I’m a fan of Chinese food. Extremely expensive. Dishes for £25 and awful. Tourist trap completely.

This was our first time dining at this restaurant, and it was an unpleasant experience. The dumplings (xiaolongbao) were very disappointing. The dumplings (xiaolongbao) we received were shrunken. When we tried one, the skin was thick, and the filling was minimal. Having eaten dumplings in other Chinese restaurants in the UK and other Asian countries, we found this completely different from what we expected. Moreover, since the restaurant advertises itself as specializing in dumplings, we found this quite strange. We shared our feedback with a waitress, who was relatively polite. However, another waitress nearby had a terrible attitude. She launched into a long and rude tirade, accusing us of making things difficult for the restaurant staff. (We were only trying to provide feedback and we wondered if this was an exceptional case; if we don’t tell the waitstaff, are we supposed to speak directly to the chef?) Not wanting to cause a scene in public, we had to ask her to stop. Later, we requested to speak with the manager or person in charge in order to address the waitress’s bad attitude but no one was available. Therefore, we can only leave our comments here. In summary: -If you’re looking for good dumplings, avoid this restaurant. -The staff are rude.
