Yane in Manchester

Warm friendly welcome as soon as you enter. The service was attentive and the waiting staff were able to give recommendations. The portion sizes were good especially given the prices and the food was just excellent. We had the gyudon, the tonkatsu kare, the pickles, the meatballs and the vegetable tempura. My favourite was the tempura. The dishes felt authentic and the curry had a nice kick of heat to it. They serve a good selection of drinks also and we enjoyed a roasted rice tea and local soda. I would recommend this to anyone wanting Japanese food in Manchester, particularly if you are a fan of donburi.

We had a really lovely time here, with friendly service as soon as we walked in. The menu is full of delicious sounding food we can't wait to try. We had the gyudon (beef rice bowl) and tonkatsu kare (pork katsu curry) as our mains, both were really tasty and generous portions. The side dishes were extra special however, the kakiage was tasty and crunchy, and the pickles added something extra to the already great food. Highly enjoyed visiting here, and will definitely be coming back to try different things.

Friendly welcome and very ambient setting. This is the second time I’ve dined here and the lady who served us was very warming. The pork katsu meat was a bit tough but the curry sauce had a little kick to it. I was a bit disappointed with the pickled side as it seemed to be the same as the pickled veg that came with the curry. Ordered the Christmas desserts to take home for the family.

We've been five times since opening and each time has been excellent. Service is friendly, polite and efficient. The food is authentic and really interesting. As a huge yoshinoya fan, the gyudon is as good as anything I've had in Japan. One ask, please bring back the tempura seaweed!

Stumbled across this little gem entirely by accident today, due to misadventure in plans and the cafe next door closing. So glad things worked out that way. This place is an absolute treasure. The food is phenomenal. Discovered a new type of green tea I've never encountered before and persuaded to allow me to buy a full pack to bring home. The staff were great - friendly, helpful, really personable. I can't say enough nice things. I just wish I lived closer. Was also a hit with my wife and teenage son.

First time at Yane and let me say we were extremely impressed with the range of options, serving sizes for such a great price. Highly recommend the bowls, beans and pickled appetisers

I was intrigued by the name "roof". It was interesting to see that the interior of the store was similar to that in Japan. It was a rare kimchi that didn't use fish sauce, but it was delicious. The customer service staff are not Japanese, but they spoke the accent so well that for a moment I mistakenly thought there was a Japanese person there. The customer service was very friendly and nice.

Great tasting Japanese food and really friendly staff. The Katsu curry a really unique flavour and the kimchi was some of the best I’ve ever had. I would love to come back and try some of the Donburi It has a homely and vibrant atmosphere (and the venue is much bigger than it seems from the outside!) A really great find in Chortlon that people should definitely check out

Absolutely delightful. A truly authentic experience and some of the best Japanese food we've found in Manchester. The food, sake and traditional Japanese greeting as we entered took us back to when we'd visited Japan a year ago. Everything we ate was delicious and the portions were generous. We will be returning.

Came here for dinner with my wife on a Saturday evening, nice cosy atmosphere, staff were all very friendly and helpful, food was excellent and a refreshingly different take on my experience of Japanese food. Manager explained they were going for more authentic approach so the focus is more on rice bowls and interesting pickles and not sushi and noodles. The vegan chukadon was our favourite but the katsu curry was also extremely good! Great range of beer and saki but no wine, when chatting to the manager at the end she explained they did do corkage so byob if you they way inclined. Great evening, would recommend

While I was living in England from Japan, I always missed Japanese food, but I couldn't find a restaurant outside of London that could reproduce the taste of Japanese home cooking. However, this restaurant was close to the Japanese food I had at home and had a great atmosphere, so both my kids and I were very satisfied! Very authentic Japanese food! Oyakodon and gyudon were very tasty. I would love to come here again(^^)

Went on a Sunday evening for a mates birthday, there was 9 of us and for the whole meal the service was immaculate, friendly, knowledgable and nothing was a problem. Onto the food, WOW, the guys in the kitchen are serving up some killer food, all based around Donburi but there is a great selection of sides including different Japanese pickles etc. I had the Pork with scrambled egg, amazing. Everyone else raving about it afterwards and planning our next visit (its about 5 mins away = dangerous!). Yane is one to try if only for the staff and cute interior, but also the food!!! 10/10

The food was amazing and the portion sizes very generous. Thoroughly recommended - will definitely go again! My teenage daughter, normally a slow eater, demolished hers in double quick time and finished first! I can especially recommended the Katsu Curry - my 5 year old son loved, and ate most of, but when I moved in to finish off discovered that it was much more spicy than the usual tame katsu curries I've had previously and was so much better for it! One slightly unusual note was that you ate in booths which meant there wasn't really an atmosphere, but I'd imagine it's a more authentic Japanese way. The staff checked in on us regularly and the owner even did so too! Had a chat with her about the venue and learned that they even sell some of the tea & crockery used - fantastic 😁

I’m so glad to have discovered Yane. The food and the service were wonderful. I’ve not had such delicious domburi since I was in Japan. The pickles and panko vegetables were also very good. Can’t wait to go back and try more from the menu.

The food and service here was amazing! We started with Noriten (tempura seaweed) with Carolina Reaper Salt 👌 Highly recommend the sake taster too - 3 x 35ml for £6.50 - they were all really good. We had 3 appetisers and then Gyudon (beef) and Katsudon (Pork). Everything was phenomenally good. I don't live anywhere near but I will definitely make a point to go back. We had a side of kimchi & 3 beers and it came to £65. Great value for such good food.

We visited Yane a few weeks ago and had a fantastic experience. Great service, great food with plenty of vegetarian options. I especially love the option to order a side of pickles with our meals. We will return soon to try out more dishes. I ordered the tamagodon with mixed pickles and pickled cucumber 🥒

This is one of the best Japanese food places I've been to lately! The service is excellent, happy to help and advice all the time. Food is a masterpiece! The size of the dishes are perfect! The atmosphere is great - makes you feel like you are sitting in a small izakaya in Japan 🩷 I'm definitely coming back to taste more dishes from the menu! 🥢

Yane is a relatively new Japanese restaurant that we visited on a whim on a Saturday, and it's a really good addition to the restaurants in Chorlton. Really good food, at very reasonable prices, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere - would recommend! As the photos show, it's a mixture of regular tables and more 'bar' style seating. The menu is made up of - and tasty too! Staff were very friendly, there was a nice range of non alcoholic soft drinks (including sours made in Manchester!) alongside the beer/sake, and it was a nice relaxed atmosphere. The cost of it all was very good too & we paid £44 overall for our two mains, extras and drinks, which for food we got etc I think is very good value. All in all, well worth a visit!

The service was friendly and atmosphere was relaxing and comfortable. I ordered the chicken donburi, it was a good size portion, very delicious and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken was thighs, so it was extra juicy and flavoursome.

A fantastic neighbourhood restaurant, some of the most authentic Japanese food I’ve had in the Uk. They have a couple of really nice veggie options as well. We were in a big group and with a baby and staff were really helpful and welcoming

Really good food and a reasonable price. There is enough range to suit everyone and we have picky kids age 10-14 who enjoyed it very much. The soda drinks are a little pricey.

I took my partner here for our “date night” and Lisa and her colleague made us feel so at home. They were friendly, attentive, efficient and, most importantly, so kind. The food is top notch. Amazing rice bowls, plenty of options, and packed full of flavour. I can’t wait to go again and would recommend anyone to do the same!

This was the best donburi, and probably best Japanese meal, that I've had in Manchester. The food was perfectly cooked and generous, with really kind and attentive service, alongside a great atmosphere from both the kitchen and the back partitioned seating. If you're in Chorlton when this place is open, there is genuinely nowhere better to go.

First time trying Yane and it won't be the last! The vegan Katsu Kare was delicious, it had great variety of vegetables and the curry sauce is the best that I've tried. Perfect amount of flavour with a good kick! The pickles were delicious too. It's the best Japanese food that I've had in Manchester. The service is great and prices are very reasonable. I can't wait to visit again!

I love watching this YouTube videos about little Japanese restaurants serving comfort Japanese food, and I always think...I wish I could try all of them, well...now the only thing I have to do is visit Yane which way closer than any of these places in Japan, Japanese comfort food at its best, flavoursome, made with love and care, fantastic service Thank you Lisa, Duncan and the rest of the team.

Yane is an amazing little restaurant in Chorlton. The food and service is amazing. The staff are extremely attentive and provide good advice for pairing drinks with dishes. The interior is cute and the crockery is gorgeous. The menu is simplistic but everything packs a punch. The pickled dishes are delicious and go well with the main dishes. The katsu curries are the best I have ever tasted. Definitely up there with the best restaurants in Manchester. We will definitely be returning to try some of the other dishes and Sake. Go support a small independent restaurant, you will not be disappointed!

Had a great Thursday evening here with friends. You’re greeted with a warm welcome and friendly service. The food is fantastic, warm bowls of deliciousness, that leave you with a good fill. The pickled cucumber is out of the world. I washed this down with buckwheat tea, something I’d never had before, it tasted like biscuits and complimented the salty main perfectly. I’ll be back here again for sure.

I had the vegan chukadon and the fukujinzute pickles and my friend had the tamagodon and the senmaizuke rasish and we both really enjoyed our meals! They were delicious and fresh!

Delightful welcome. Full explanation of the menu. We enjoyed fragrant and delicious chicken katsudon and vegetable katsu curry and a side of pickled cucumbers; fabulous flavours. The warm sake complimented this nicely.

Been meaning to visit since it opened. Went for an early dinner with our girls (6yo & 4yo). Great donburi, good size portions. We got a katsu without sauce & plain rice which the girls demolished with no complaints (very handy when going out with kids). Lisa one of the owners was very helpful and friendly. Will be back for sure!

Lovely little restaurant. Chorlton has some of the best small independant restaurants in Manchester and Yane is no exception. Simple menu of unique dishes you won't find elsewhere. Healthy portions, reasonable prices. Lastly, the curry sauce was absolutely delicious. Didn't know a 'basic' curry sauce could have so much depth.

First visit and won’t be the last! Friendly service matched by a great menu. Highly recommended.

Perhaps our new favourite place in Chorlton! I had a pork katsu while my wife had the chicken - both delicious in a crispy batter with a really tasty curry sauce. We also had a side of kakiage which was amazing. Crispy vegetable strips with a salty seasoning - the ultimate drink snack. Really lovely and welcoming service and reasonably priced. Would 100% recommend giving a try.

I had a lovely experience with at Yane's. I was impressed with how helpful the woman was with helping us choose things. Also we were 15 to 20 minuted late and were more than understanding and helpful to accommodate us. The food was lovely and I would return if I was in Manchester again.

It is such a treat that this restaurant opened in chorlton! Super friendly staff, a warm, welcoming and clean environment, and delicious food. I had the scrambled eggs rice bowl and radish pickles, which I cannot recommend enough. It felt like top notch comfort food without feeling unhealthy. They have a new regular on their hands and I'll be telling all my local friends to pay them a visit.

YANE is a little gem, the food was fresh, good ingredients were used and all the dishes were tasty! I recommend the pickles, Karaage beef rice bowl. Service was fabulous, everyone very friendly. We will be back!
