Being going here for years, sitting in and taking away. Such a lovely relaxed restaurant, service personal and friendly, food great and prices reasonable. It's unlicensed and you can take your own alcohol if you need to. This has always been my restaurant and takeaway of choice 👍

Not impressed their advert states you get a discount if you spend over £20 for delivery and collection we spent over £40 I asked for the discount got told its only for collection, so was over charged by £7 . .. definitely won't use again, food not that tasty either.. if you want to get ripped off on mediocre food then this is the place...

Super friendly staff. Great food at a fantastic price. Took our own wine and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Eve meal. Thank you.

All the dishes we had were nowhere close to authentic Indian food! Everything was just tasteless! Would not recommend it to anyone!

Tandoori Chicken..on the bone(hard to find in York).. garlic nan fluffy and delicious... 15 out of 10! Will become my regular Indian! Thank you so much for fantastic good value for money food! Tenía un cordero Rogan Josh que era básicamente puré de tomate con unos cuantos tomates crudos. Sin profundidad de sabor total basura. La pequeña porción de arroz naan estaba bien. El chef no tiene idea de cómo cocinar. Mis últimas tres visitas han sido pobres hace años fue genial. No barato ambiente pobre más una toma lejos de muchos mejores lugares para ir por una milla de campo.

I have been here twice now and both times have been extremely impressed. The curries are some of the best I've tried from anywhere and service is brilliant.

Mi pedido de Bhaji, alitas de pollo, pilau de verduras y cordero Tikka Vindaloo era preciso, caliente y muy bien empaquetado a su llegada. Los Bhajis eran generosos en tamaño y sabrosos, pero quizás demasiado grandes, ya que perdieron textura crujiente puramente debido a lo grandes que eran. El sabor era bueno sin embargo y no eran grasosos en absoluto. Las alas de Tandoori les dieron una buena patada y bastante buenas, sin quejas. El principal, sin embargo, Cordero Tikka Vindaloo fue decepcionante. La salsa estaba lo suficientemente limpia, nada aceitosa y la patata estaba bien cocida pero ahí es donde se detienen los positivos. Sigue siendo el mejor indio de York, su pollo nunca es rosa y siempre se cocina correctamente, he venido aquí durante años y nunca han sacado comida cruda. Went to the restaurant tonight, we had a meat samosa to start which was like in a sweet Douey bread , then both had lamb Madras , I asked for it to be 50/50 hot strength, it was so tame a baby would be ok eating it , And the lamb was so Fatty I only ate half of it

Ordered a korma which the chicken was still very pink. Took it back as it was inedible and informed them and asked for a refund on that only not the rest of the meal. They took it back round to the chef who said it was fine to eat and wasn’t pink which wasn’t true. We also ordered a tandoori chicken which the chicken was perfectly fine and was white. They told us korma chicken is suppose to look like that when every one we have had before did not, it has always been white. Had to wait 25 mins for the manager to come as we weren’t leaving until we got a refund as it wasn’t acceptable. We also had the veggie samosa which wasn’t a samosa at all it was bread with just peppers and onions in. Everyone in there was rude to us and kept telling us it was cooked and didn’t believe that the korma in the picture was the korma we brought in. Wouldn’t recommend.

Worst place that you can think to order food from, their driver was abusive and harassed my partner and took the food along with him. When we tried to lodge a complain against him the staff who couldn’t speak English kept saying the manager is not here and didn’t do anything to help us. Even marked the order as delivered when he didn’t even deliver it. They want to protect an abusive driver who can be a threat to anyone, anyone could be at my partner’s place. Please avoid this place.

I ordered from york tandoori, their rider came shouted at me and abused me verbally asking me to f*ck off, get lost. On top of that he took the order with himself and after 2 hours marked it as delivered. So they harassed me, took my money and didn't deliver the order And falsely marked it as delivered

Fantastic food. (Tandoori special & chicken makhani), with rice and naan). Handy location. Definitely a revisit if we're in York again.

PHENOMENAL FOOD & SERVICE! ❤️ This place is a true gem and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Never had better Indian food anywhere in the country! Warm and polite service. The restaurant is immaculately clean and the tables are lovely.

You always want to reserve five stars for something really exceptional. This restaurant deserves close to five stars for the overall experience and very good value. Each part of the meal was well done, the highlights being the chef's recommended Sylheti Naga Lamb (firey hot and delicious) and a very fresh-tasting and soothing mango lassi, perfect to moderate the fire of the tasty naga chillis. I prefer a crispier, more pungent onion bhaji than the one here, which was good regardless. Atmosphere was the ideal balance between homely and welcoming and smart and professional. Looking forward to coming again.

We recently ordered a takeaway from York Tandoori and were thoroughly impressed! The delivery was prompt, and the food arrived hot and fresh. The rogan Josh with lamb was absolutely delicious, easily the best we've ever tasted. What also stood out was their exceptional care and consideration regarding my nut allergy; they ensured our meal was safe and allergen-free. Overall, a fantastic experience, and we will definitely be ordering from York Tandoori again! Highly recommended!

Only had a couple of takeaways recently but the food on both occasions was awesome. Last nights meat Dopiaza was different level, best I've had in York. Quality ingredients, great portion size & delicious sauce. I only work across the road from the restaurant so next stop is a visit there. Highly recommended.

The best Indian take away I have ever had. Absolutely amazing

Delicious Indian food. Ordered a delivery take-out and it took a bit longer to arrive than stated on the web site but it was totally worth the wait. The best Indian food I've had in York, ordered lamb dansak - great portion size, tender lamb and really tasty sauce. Asked for it fairly spicy and it was perfect, not just extra chili thrown in like so many other places do but a careful addition of extra spices. The pilau rice was excellent too, long grain and obviously good quality. Some extra poppadoms too which was a nice gesture. Best curry I've had since I moved back to York from West Yorkshire, been searching for food like this and now I've found it. I'll eat in next time. Highly recommended.

Went alone at 10pm and was the only customer - polite and friendly service. The food was sensational. Was recommended the special chicken curry, and also ordered the mixed pilau rice, papadum and aloo gobi. The first three were incredible. Aloo Gobi was okay. They offer 10% discounts for students as well. Incredible - will be back next time I’m in York

Visted york tandori last night and i can honestly say its one of the best currys ive ever had. The oinion bhaji were crispy on the outside and soft inside just how they should be. The Staff were lovely and attentive, coming over to make sure we didn't need anything else. Everywhere was busy in the centre which im happy about because we wouldnt of stumbled upon this Gem of a place.

First visit last night and we will be back for more! Great food with the option to BYO wine (no corkage charge) makes this somewhat unique.

Staying at a Travelodge, this take away/ restaurant was about 10 mins walk from the hotel. Quiet on a Tuesday night. Food was lovely (ranks in my top 10 Indian food ever) service very good and it's BYOB. Perfect. Will definitely return.

The food and service was second to none we went for our Anniversary it's tucked up a side street so you wouldn't walk past it we saw it just by chance. Well worth a visit.. Fabulous.

We’re from Sheffield and met up with friends in York. They’ve been before but was our first time. Food and service were excellent and reasonably priced too, BYO was a bonus!! Would recommend this place👍

What a fantastic find. We were stuck finding halal food and decent parking in the centre of York. The restaurant is located on the outskirts of York city centre and there is off road parking. The restaurant is impeccably clean and the waiting staff were very quick efficient and friendly. Shout out to Mr Nazrul and his team. We ordered the prawn special with green beans , butter chicken , dhaal and saag with fresh naan From an Islamic point of view they do not serve alcohol. Thank you ! Would definitely eat here again

Food was very delicious and reasonable prices. We ordered different menus and all were tasty, though surprised chicken Biryani was with boiled egg.

As part of a monthly curry club we have been to every curry house in York, as a complete package (quality, price, service and location) none can beat York tandoori. Mushroom rice, king prawn puri, cheese and onion naan and a garlic chilli lamb curry - £20. Superb.

We used to eat at York Tandoori when we were students at York, St John’s 29 years ago. We returned with our 3 sons in tow and it didn’t disappoint. The food was excellent and the staff still as welcoming. Looking forward to another meal there already!

Our entire family enjoyed our delicious meal at York Tandoori! We tried some new dishes that we’ve never had and they were all very flavorful! The staff were friendly and helpful and seemed to enjoy chatting with us and other tourists. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for some delicious Indian food while in York!

Beste Indiase eten sinds lang, heerlijke chicken biryani en chicken saag, erg vriendelijke bediening, gunstige prijzen. Lekker pittig, maar niet te. Kortom, top!

We were welcomed as if we were long lost friends, even though it was our first time visiting. We weren't rushed to decide on our food and we were not rushed between courses either. The food was delicious too.

We've been using this place for 20 years + (gosh, I'm only 40, but that sounds ancient)! Anyway, it's THAT GOOD. Aesthetically it's not much of a looker admittedly, and the location isn't great, but it's one of those hidden gems. Authentic dishes, cooked spot on EVERY time and always great value too. Furthermore the front of house staff are nothing short of superb - such manners and attention to detail. They put many to shame! We travel approx 4-5 times a year to dine here, and it's approx 35-40 miles from home.... Purely because it's worth it. There's curry and there's curry, and having eaten at maybe what - 50 or more Indian restaurants in my time - not one has rivalled this place for taste. And isn't that the main reason to go?! Enjoy.

Delicious food in a relaxed setting with warm and corteous service. I stumbled upon this place because I stayed at an Airbnb in a residential area and you can tell it’s frequented exclusively by knowing locals. Everything was tasty but the onion bhajis were simply the best I’ve ever had. Memorable! Finally, Nasrul (Alex) was very kind and personable and made us feel right at home.

probably the best Indian in York, the food is exceptional, never had a bad meal in over a year of using them, the quantity of the servings is more than enough. delivery has always been fast, and with great service & friendly staff, I now use their own App which works out cheaper than the "Other" App highly recommended I always get Lamb Vindaloo with Keema rice. amazing

Brilliant, traditional curry. Never had anything less than an excellent meal here. Never used the takeaway but eat in is delicious. Great value for money and although it's not licensed you can take your own booze (there's a Spar 50 mtrs away).

Hello readers, let me tell you this Indian was excellent the server man was lovely and when I asked about having an alcoholic beverage he said 'we don't do aclcohol, sorry, but bring you can bring your own'. Flabbergasted and actually excited by this I ran to the shop a couple doors down and treated myself to some wine, brought it back to realise it was corked, was upset with myself, poor choice, but never fear, boss man had a cork screw and opened it for us, food arrived quick and prompt to the table. The food was actually amazing, very filling and just perfect. Would 1000% recomend. Just to add the samosa was very large homemade thing, crispy but also kinda like a yorky pud, but Indian style, absolute perfection it was.
