This was the first time we had been to Zest, ready the menu outside, on arrival at the cafe a notice to say the chef was on holiday so menu limited. Had to settle for Paninis which were to my mind overpriced, at £8.95 and coffee £3.75 a cup but it was Harrogate. Do not think I will be returning.

Came some distance from Leeds for 80th Birthday with friend around 11 am. We ordered bacon sandwich each and told 20 minute wait, so expected to be good. How wrong! Disappointment, thick toast white bread, literally scrape of butter couldnt face it lid was curling up like had had heat from above? No presentation just small pot tomatoe sauce. We both tried eat the bacon and bottom slice but couldn’t so just left it. The Manageress was pleasant and asked would we like something else, so both chose Freshly made scone, mine a date was rock hard! so dry…. Looking round, the sandwiches that came out thick bread. Less us more Zest, the bacon baps you used to do were so lovely! Us older people don’t need overfacing with thrown on the plate sandwiches. We willNOTcome again . My Birthday treat was ruined.

Pleasant place for a coffee, served quickly efficiently. We ordered a club sandwich which I always thought consisted of three slices of toasted bread with a filling of chicken, bacon, tomato, lettuce, mayo. (filings can vary) What we got was a glorified BLT with something resembling chicken (diced) only two slices of bread, and a few chips, at £8.95 I felt it was not very good value at all.

Passing by and went in for something light to eat, cheese scones were very nice as was the vanilla slice. Coffee and teas also lovely. Served by 2 ladies, the first was very pleasant , unfortunately the other was a bit rude and more or less accused us of only paying for one scone, we weren’t paying attention to the first server when she was ringing up our order. We obviously paid without question but her manner was not good , Shame as it’s a nice restaurant.

A post festive days stroll around Harrogate and a trip to Zest the cafe in the basement of Hoopers, the department store A nice tuna melt for me and Yorkshire rarebit for my wife. Busy but tables came up soon enough. Service always polite and friendly and given how busy it was, food came fast

Quite simply THE best breakfast in Harrogate.... less the fuss and finesse of others ( Betty’s and The Ivy) which are great and have their place. Zest is spotless and the cooked breakfast is spot on!

We came here for a quick Saturday lunch and were not disappointed. Clearly popular, so come early but the choices including the specials are very good for a snack/light lunch. Good service and decent prices too.

Located in the basement of the store. Reasonable choice on menu however they do not do hot food after 3.00 p.m. Food quite well presented. Nice pot of tea. Do not like the way food on the counter is not covered. Staff helpful and pleasant.

Excellent scone (grandma’s recipe) and tea out of china cups. Unlike many other cafe/teashops in Knaresborough, it’s open after 4pm and dog friendly.

Apparently the chef went off sick. Fair enough, I know that things happen but to be told by a member of staff that they couldn’t contact anyone as they didn’t have any details was not true. I was asked for, and gave, my phone number when I booked so why make stuff up?
