We called in during a walk. Sophie made us welcome & we were spoiled for food choice. Opted for the white Tuscan bean soup with a scone and a chicken focaccia sandwich, both delicious. Will try the scotch eggs next time. Such a pleasant place to visit on a walk. Highly recommend.

Arranged to meet my sister at the Bear at Alderwasley, unfortunately my sat nav was having non of it, so we ended up meeting at the family Tree, where we have been many times before. It was busy, a table was cleared and we sat at a 4 seater, a two seater is ridiculous unless just having a drink. Wow the menu prices have sky rocketed , over ÂŁ11 for a panini. We both ordered sandwichâs. Small coffees, small cups. O.k, bread quite dry, salad just salad, with a light dressing. Few I stress few small crisps on the plate. Service was alright. Wonât back in a hurry, met my sister for a catch up was what it was really about.

What can I say about this lovely little bakery? The minute we walked in we were greeted with a warm, friendly atmosphere. We were there with friends and family. We ordered our drinks and snacks which were promptly served. The coffee is very smooth and actually served in earthen ware cups, which keeps it warmer for longer. I ordered the date and walnut scone. Although it was close to closing time, the scone was still very fresh and absolutely delicious. I'm not one for butter or cream dressings, so I do like my scones naked. All I can say is, you need to try this place to believe it. I will be returning and would recommend in a heartbeat. We left with more goidies too. Please check it out, you won't regret it x

Simply the worst fish and chips I have ever purchased. I'll not say eat as I didn't get that far. They went in the bin. Arrived at tea time. Not busy. Ordered mini fish meal with curry. Told me the fish would be fried fresh. I didn't see the fish and chips being wrapped. I was stood outside the shop, collected my order and travelled the short distance home. My suspicions should have been aroused by the amount of oil that was seeping through the wrapping paper onto the mat on my van floor. On unwrapping, the fish was a burnt brown colour, soaking in oil with not a hint of crispness to the batter. The oil that was not soaked in the fish was the colour of, well I've seen cleaner oil come out of a gearbox. Chips were soggy, oily and again awful. All this for ÂŁ11. I'm not sure but if you order the items individually it is cheaper. I'll not be checking as never going back.

I almost donât want to tell you how good this place was, from the staff who were so welcoming, to the roaring fires, and the food was 10/10. Locally people give very mixed reviews of this place, but I suspect the negative folk donât know what a flipping good traditional pub is. Iâm hoping this may become a regular place. Welcoming, clean, comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, food was amazing. If you want a proper pub, with proper grub then give it a try.
