Cosy cafe- enjoyed lunch with my daughter. Korben was really nice and helpful too. Really nice place. Beautiful decor.

Excellent food, staff, cleanliness and price. Particularly liked the new salted caramel milk shake. A trip down memory lane for us.

Nice, clean and friendly very helpful. Food tasty and nice to see lots of variety. We don’t all like the traditional . Glad to see them back after they left lakeside.

Hiya this demi, the girl who had a complaint about Kenny the ‘head doorman’ i just wanted to put in writing how threatened i felt by this man and how uncomfortable i felt in general. Once my friend had already left the doors this is when she was notified that she would not be allowed back in. Once i disputed the fact that she was not notified before leaving inside of the venue, Kenny became very aggressive and started kicking the door back when i was trying to speak to my friend inside. It almost felt like he was on a ‘power trip’ and started speaking down to me in a very belittling way. he said and i quote ‘if i was your dad i would be ashamed of you’ and that ‘i would never want a daughter as slaggy as you’. his actions let alone his words made me feel so uncomfortable to the point that i didn’t want to return anyway. No other staff members were present at this time, incase he tries to change his story based on other witnesses. This is unacceptable behaviour! I work in and have worked in bars before and never have my security team ever spoken to a member of the public in this way ever before. i am absolutely disgusted and devastated that anyone would ever be spoken to like this, let alone someone who is supposed to be maintaining a level of professionalism. We had a great night at The Merchant and experienced no problem’s before an unexpected and threatening issue occurred between myself and the ‘head doorman’ Kenny. My friends and I have attended the Merchant on may occasions and never had an issue however after this incident, after being aggressively attacked by Kenny, i feel that my friends and i will have to avoid this venue in future.

Lovely food rather quick service and also do gluten free hence why we keep retuning small hiccup when ordering the last time we visited but was cleared up fast and food was lovely

We were kindly gifted an Luxury afternoon tea for two by the owners of Merrymeade Tearoom last Christmas, as a random act of kindness within our village. We finally visited yesterday (entirely our fault for the delay not theirs) and it was well worth the wait. What a beautiful setting from the grandeur of the house from the outside to the cosy tea shop entrance and then the lighter brighter Library room. The staff were wonderfully attentive without being a bother and the afternoon tea itself was delicious. In fact we boxed up what we couldn’t eat at the time and I’m enjoying my fabulous Lemon sponge cake with a cuppa as I type now. Thank you so much for your kindness, it was a much needed treat for us and we will definitely be back.

I had a rather disappointing experience at this cafe. As a mother dealing with the challenges and expenses of school holidays, I hoped the animal sanctuary cafe would be a pleasant and reasonably priced option. However, I ended up regretting my decision to dine there as the food and drinks left much to be desired. The kids' beans on toast was decent in taste, but the portion size of just one piece of toast was quite underwhelming. The pizza slice looked appealing, but unfortunately, the toppings lacked flavor, and the dough didn't hold up well, disintegrating as I tried to enjoy it. The vanilla milkshake was disappointing as it tasted bland, lacking any real vanilla flavor. And as for the coffee, it was truly atrocious. Even adding sugar couldn't salvage the taste, and the takeaway cups had an odd smell that didn't help matters. All in all, I would advise against visiting this cafe during your trip to Hopefield. It's better to pack your own food and avoid the disappointment of a lackluster dining experience.

I feel compelled to share my recent experience at Giggling Squid in Brentwood, as it has left me deeply concerned about their food safety practices and customer service. On December 1st, 2024, I had a meal there, which included prawns. Hours later, I became violently ill with severe vomiting and diarrhea that lasted for two days. What makes this more alarming is that I was the only person in my group to eat prawns, and no one else fell ill. I reported the incident to the restaurant immediately, but their response has been nothing short of dismissive. Instead of taking my complaint seriously, they speculated that my illness might have been caused by norovirus—even though there is no evidence to support this claim, and my family members, who ate with me and live in the same household, were unaffected. Despite my requests, they refused to provide transparent details about their seafood handling. To anyone considering eating at Giggling Squid, especially the Brentwood location, I urge you to think twice. If you’ve had a similar experience, please speak up—it’s vital to hold businesses accountable to prevent others from getting sick. I’m sharing my story to raise awareness and ensure no one else has to go through what I did.

Nothing prepares you for a waiter emptying the bin, replacing the bin bag, and straight away handling your coffee without washing or sanitising their hands. That level of poor hygiene is just unmatched. Coast shoukd do better!

Order from prezzo from time to time mainly when there is a deal on through one of the many delivery sites. The pizza is always great quality and tasty and they have white pizza Bianco options that I really like. The garlic bread with caramelised onion is always lovely too, this said if we had to pay full price I would buy elsewhere as there are various pizza options locally. But if there is a deal and its the same price I would recommend you give it a try.
