I’ve previously raved about this small coffee shop cum cafe but, disappointingly, I didn’t enjoy the food on our recent visit. We were a family group of five, three of whom had the tuna ciabatta melt which, they said, was very good. However, my grandson’s squash and spinach soup lacked any taste of squash (I tasted the soup) and, actually, with its very dark green colour, I didn’t think the soup looked appealing either. Spinach has such a strong taste and, if it’s being used alongside other vegetables in soup-making, the amount needs to be proportionate to the other ingredients. Unfortunately, the spinach was overpowering and totally drowned out any flavour from the squash. I ordered a home-baked, warm asparagus, spinach, tomato and cheese tart which I can only describe as dire. The pastry was soggy, so I only ate the middle of the tart and left the pastry, whilst the accompanying salad was tiny and boring beyond belief, with just a few leaves, a couple of pieces of tomato and a few bits of cucumber. The salad actually resembled nothing more than a garnish, with a bit of dressing on top, and, at £12, the meal was poor quality and even poorer value for money. The lattes were excellent and my son-in-law enjoyed his Terry’s orange flavoured hot chocolate but there wasn’t a great choice of cakes to go with our drinks so none of us bothered. In terms of the food, there doesn’t appear to be an actual kitchen, just a section within the cafe where a member of staff was preparing the orders. I’d never previously noticed before that there wasn’t a kitchen here so not sure if this is a change. However, only having a microwave and no oven would explain why I had a tart with soggy pastry! Regrettably, I can’t even say that the staff were brilliant. We were mainly served by one staff member who I can only describe as surly looking, leading me to want to repeat a childhood phrase my mum used to say when I was being grumpy, ‘if you smile, your face will crack!’. A second member of staff, though, was so different and really nice. I’d have been happy to have given some honest feedback at the time but, unfortunately, nobody asked if we’d enjoyed our meal. I can say, now though, that my meal was extremely poor and, with a bill of £65 for our group, it wasn’t cheap. Finishing on a positive note, the toilets were clean.

Well straight away got off on a wrong foot, I think the one who I first dealt with was possibly the owner (walked around like he was anyway) waiting for a takeaway telling me two minutes when it was another 10-15 (little tip if it’s going to take that long be straight up a “couple minutes” covers about 5 minutes… we ordered from here as trying new places out after a move to Cambourne and can honestly say it was the worst curry I’ve ever had, we came to this one as they have some good reviews well not this time I’m afraid… the korma I don’t know what that “chicken” was or how long it has been cooked or what was going on but that wasn’t even edible! Korma sauce had no taste it did not even have that vibrant look they usually have it just looked dead. Tikka masala a bit better edible ish… good naan bread, good rice (it’s rice though not sure you can mess with that to much) poppadoms were great… Mrs food she had a few bites and gave up… I’m sure they are a lovely bunch of people they’ve got some good reviews so maybe it was an off day but i definitely wouldn’t return and fuming I wasted so much money on that tbh

It's been a few years since we visited 77 in Caxton. I always remember it being very good but our experience this week was fantastic. Still the same quirky pub setting but the food was exceptional - probably some of the best Thai food I've ever had. It's strange how you get out of the habit of going places, and when you return, it's far better than you remember. We won't be leaving it so long before returning. I also noticed that they do 'take-aways' which is good to know.

Had to stay here midweek for a buisness meeting in Cambridge. Check in was not the fastest but i found the bed extremely comfortable and enjoyed the extra laundry space available. Grest service by Susan at breakfast in the morning!

Booked a table for 18 for my son's 30th Birthday (Surprise) - staff were absolutely amazing - we were able to leave the decorations, and they did a grand job!! Food - all plates were left empty!! Good choice of drinks. Great atmosphere. Would definately recommend. x

I had a truly disappointing experience at Fish n Chicken. The shop was dirty, with grease stains on the counters and the floor looking like it hadn’t been cleaned in days. The food was bland, and the fish tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. The batter was soggy, not crispy at all, and the chips were undercooked and limp. The portion sizes were small for the price, and the service was incredibly slow. To top it off, the manager was rude and unhelpful when I raised my concerns. Definitely not worth the money, and I won’t be coming back.

Had a lovely roast dinner with my partner and elderly mum. Bar staff were very helpful when ordering food and Chrissy our server was very attentive and happy, going above and beyond with customer service. The food was hot and served on hot plates which is very rare these days. To be honest we've never had a bad meal at the Monkfield Arms anyway.
