We had a good time at the restaurant, nestled away from wedding festivities elsewhere on the grounds. The wait staff were both friendly and attentive. The cream tea was good and we were indulged without the usual reservations requirement which was appreciated. Our sandwiches were fresh with tasty fillings and the scones warm and generously sized. However for the price we felt the trio of desserts was incredibly basic. A real shame since the rest was so enjoyable.

We had a great family dinner here. Plenty of choice on the menu and specials board. Generous portions and all cooked just right. Delicious desserts too!

Breathtakingly beautiful stay @ DOWNHALL HOTEL AND SPA! You need to see this place to believe it. It’s a gorgeous Essex retreat with a feeling of 1920’s yesteryear. Special mentions to Tracy and Paulina who made our family stay that much more special. The breakfast is fit for a king and plentiful. The family walks are both beautiful and therapeutic. Oh and the spa massage is a MUST! Lilly was my masseuse and she was absolutely brilliant!! There is a reason why Downhall has been voted AA HOTEL OF THE YEAR!!!!! 💪🔥 My humble opinion: STAY HERE AND DONT THINK TWICE!

Banging Christmas lunch. Service is above and beyond. Food for 8 arrived smoothly together and with every placeholder's order remembered. There are top London restaurants who could usefully learn how to do this. One imagines the Sunday lunches are just as good, year round. A properly run establishment.

One of the best Indian takeaways we have had for a long time

Super friendly staff, great variety of food, super quick service, and attentive - my only critique would be cook the veggies a bit longer! Super hard sprouts and cauliflower - everything else was very tasty

The Grill room always has a nice atmosphere. My Mum and I find it to be A La Carte but relaxed which is a nice mix. The food is delicious, we’ve never had a bad meal. I had the Potato Gratin with baby parsnips (vedgy option) this time and it was delicious. The Chef very kindly did my Mum a chicken option, as she couldn’t eat the other options and she really enjoyed it. Presentation and portion size is very good. Reasonably priced for the quality. When we stay at the hotel we always eat in the Grill room and if we were more local we’d eat here more often.

Now Kings - food was cold on arrival, part of the order missing and refused to return call to resolve. Won’t be going back.
