I am confused by the 5 star reviews for this takeaway! The food was very average - the potatoes in the sag aloo were hard and rubbery for instance, and I have definitely eaten better locally.

First visit since the change of ownership and I had seen the mixed reviews from a few months ago. The food - haddock, cod and chips - was perfectly cooked and every bit as good as previously. The shop was very busy (Friday evening) but well organised and the service was both quick and friendly. Three happy customers this evening and very happy to recommend.

I am normally a Greggs girly when it comes to a bacon roll, but recently I saw a sign at the pantry for “hot bacon rolls” and thought I would give it a try…and I was not disappointed! I managed to park conveniently right outside and went in to a calm, cool and cozy environment. I was greeted immediately and served quickly and my roll was amazing! Will definitely be returning 🙂

A great local family run country store and garden centre, with a good restaurant to add to the enjoyment

Food wasn’t great, toasted panini was more like a cold cheese sandwich and the chips looked like they’d been cooked with a hairdryer. Coffee was nice however.

they just hosted a party for my mums 80 th birthday , after travelling around several pubs in the area we chose the chequers tree after visiting and talking through our needs with the landlady , who couldn’t have been more friendly and accommodating , laid out the back room with lovely flowers and decoration and a buffet , didn’t mind going along with our plan for a surprise party , food was really good and very inexpensive compared to other local pubs that couldn’t offer the same service, thank you it really made my mums day and it’s given her memory’s to cherish forever

Lovely inside and outside eating space. Very popular and I am not surprised as the food and drink was delicious. Very sweet waitresses who answer your dietary questions. We had Venison and Pork terrine which was scrumptious. Scotch egg. A Zinger drink etc. Small plate was £10 and adequate for lunch. We shared a Carrot and Coconut cake which was divine. Lovely coffee. Outside has heated areas. Nice loos and decor. Farm shop has lovely produce- expensive as per usual. I recommend this for families, friends and couples.

Turned up to watch the Olympics skateboarding, the TV wasn't on but the landlady was very accommodating by putting it on and leaving the remote for me to adjust volume or change channel if I wished My pint of hawkstone lager was served cool and crisp Highly recommend 👌

Went for a casual lunch after walking the dog, having moved to the area recently. We went in expecting to just have nibbles, but the menu sounded great so we decided to splash out a bit. What we received was very disappointing and definitely not worth what we paid for it. Service at the bar was very unfriendly to the point we felt the staff would have preferred us not to be there. Starters weren't bad, I had the chorizo scotch egg which tasted nice, even if the egg yolk was a bit gelatinous. My wife had the croquettes which were also tasty but a very small portion. Main course was very poor. I got the Pollo picante, which is advertised as half a chicken in a spicy marinade. The chicken was dry and the marinade was very bland - what flavour it did have was not spicy and not even very pleasant. The amount of chicken provided was also not great - half a chicken suggests at least two very large chunks of chicken, what I received were two meagre breasts which had dried out under the grill. The chips were also poor - they had an unpleasant floury aftertaste and weren't very crispy- I'd expect better in a pub geared towards food. My wife had the pasta calabrese al forno, which was also somewhat dry and the sauce tasted burnt. It had only a small amount of chicken and practically no chorizo. We had thought about pudding but decided not to in the end. We live locally and had thought this might be a good place to come with friends and family but might not bother, given the overpriced and mediocre food and unfriendly service.

This restaurant is part of a family garden centre, visit most weeks with my mother and have always had good food, the staff are friendly and the meal is reasonably priced. As well as the main restaurant area there is a conservatory area which has been upgraded with a new roof (could now do with window blinds),relaxing atmosphere.
