This is a gorgeous place, a large bar full of cosy corners, in a stunning setting, and with a large and very civilised dining room. There is a fire in the centre which we were seated beside. The pheasant, partridge and wild boar suet pudding starter was quite exceptional, beautiful flavours. I have venison hotpot for the main, again excellent. The Shiraz was excellent. And a special word on the service - all the young staff who looked after us were outstanding, so helpful, knowledgable and enthusiastic. Will be back soon. Thank you so much.

Food was very average, scallops were only warm not hot, the brownie was burnt and we had to send it back sadly, wouldn’t rush back.

Went over to the Abinger Hatch today for a sunday roast with my mum for our early Christmas dinner. What a treat! We both had the chicken roast and wow! The chicken itself was superb. Very soft and tons of flavour. The veg was on point and i hate veg. So thats saying something. The gravy and potatoes just mwah. We then ordered a couple of drinks that came over in a good time baring in mind it was packed we had great service, very quick and very attentive. For desert i had the chocolate browine with a gorgeous topping of icecream. And this was a propper brownie! So well done the hatch. Mum was recommended the sticky toffee pudding. This for her she said was a great choice so fair play to the waitress who recommended this. Couple more drinks and then the bill. Smiles all around every in its very busy time. To me that a sign of pure class and great customer service. Thanka to all that helped and served. We will be back thats a promise! Thanks Abinger Hatch.

Closed Permanently. I live nearby and sadly another idyllic venue closes. The Volunteer is tucked away forever now I’m told. Sold to a property developer who’s ideas are not to reopen or refurb as a pub.

As per some other reviews on here I was charged twice, once from Crostinies app (where I got no confirmation) and also from Just Eat. Neither have me a refund so 3 pizzas cost £108! Was not very impressed with the pizza and obviously would never use again.
