The best restaurants in Sonning Common South Oxfordshire South East

What isn't to love about this jewel of a pub, without the exception of some of the local roads that is? We found this gem of an establishment a while back when a booking at a nearby pub had to be cancelled and they recommended the Red Lion. On our latest visit, we met up with relatives from Battersea for lunch on a cold, very wet Saturday lunchtime, weather courtesy of Storm Bert. From the minute we walked through the door, we were greeted by the welcoming landlord and members of his team. Being dog friendly, as soon as we were seated at our table, our accompanying Golden Doodle summer was treated to a bowl of water and even some doggie snacks from the bar. The was a good choice of real ales from the bar and the menu, was usefully concise and yet loaded with lovely dishes to tempt us. By coincidence, we all, one by one ordered the fish and chips and our post meal comments varied from "brilliant" to the "best I've had for years". Service throughout the meal was attentive, polite and so friendly. And to top it all, the bill was very reasonable considering the quality of the food, beer in fact the whole experience. I note that their website states: " Everything we do at The Red Lion is evaluated through the lens of asking ourselves whether or not it'll make people return". Well they certainly knocked that one out of the park for us, we'll be returning as soon as we can and we live over 100 miles away(!). If a two hundred mile round trip for lunch isn't a recommendation, I don't know what is!

We visited to celebrate the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of my parents-in-law as a party of eleven. Everyone loved the decor of the Greyhound and the service and food were faultless - excellent in fact. Nice relaxed atmosphere, busy without feeling cramped or forgotten and perfect for groups of all sizes. Thoroughly recommend.

Popped in off the cuff Had roast dinner which was restaurant standard and very reasonably priced everything had attention to detail all fresh and home made I can honestly say it exceeded all expections. I recommend this welcoming and friendly public house service was top notch gr ea t selection of drinks Lovely garden and parking out the front. Mick and Claire you have a fantastic public house your communicate lucky to have you.

Lovely to see this pub back to what it used to be - good food, great service and all at a good price!

Es la primera vez que ordeno una comida para llevar de este restaurante. Muy decepcionado. Como cuando abrí, encontré un pelo negro largo en mi pollo con mantequilla. 17 / 12 / 24 Todavía me lleno enfermo hoy. Después de algunas idas y venidas por teléfono explicando cuáles eran mis preocupaciones / quejas. Y no llegar a ninguna parte. Les dije que pondría esto en el puesto de asesor de viajes. Luego me preguntaron qué quería hacer. Me ofrecieron reemplazar mi comida. Lo cual fue un paso en la dirección correcta. Sin embargo, al mencionar tal vez debería ofrecer comida de reemplazo completa con reembolso completo del pago. Ya que esto no era aceptable. Me dijeron que no podía hacer eso y sabes cuántos platos se hacen en un día. Y preguntar y decir que estaba poniendo esto en viaje asesor era chantaje y que habían estado operando durante años. Tal vez entonces su PPE debería ser investigado y reciclaje de los miembros del personal. A esa hora eran casi las 9 de la noche y aún no estaba completamente resuelto. Así que acepté la oferta de la comida de reemplazo. Como un reembolso completo en mi comida no se vería hasta el viernes cuando el gerente fue el siguiente en entrar. A lo que reemplazaron toda la comida, que no solo incluía mi comida, también el curry de otra persona y arroz y hongos al ajo. Lo cual no pedí. Como su comida no estaba contaminada. Lamentablemente en el viaje de 5 minutos a casa. El curry estaba tibio. Así que terminó en la papelera. Sé que estas cosas pasan dentro de una cocina. Sin embargo, es cómo manejas estas situaciones cuando surgen. Ofrecer un reemplazo realmente no es lo suficientemente bueno. Como me has dejado sintiéndome enfermo. Más tiempo añadido en tener que salir de nuevo y recoger.

Llamamos para el almuerzo en nuestro paseo y nos dieron la bienvenida, incluyendo nuestro perro. Los chicos tenían nuggets de pollo hechos con trozos de pollo adecuados. Tomé estofado y mi marido comió hamburguesa de pollo. Todo delicioso, recomendaría.

Fantastic atmosphere and great Staff and the charismatic landlord Tommy.. it really makes the Unicorn a great place to eat or drink with family or friends.. highly recommend..

I had coffee at the Herb Garden today and developed a nasty cough whilst I was there. A member of staff brought me a glass of water (she obviously heard me coughing) without my asking. I was impressed; she went beyond the call of service. Thankyou! Gold stars all round. Coffee and scone delicious too!

Lovely little establishment had lunch with the children the staff were very accomadating and attentive lovely food and a fair price would definitely recommend.i now visit most mornings.

We went to the greyhound last night to celebrate my husband’s birthday , we had a fantastic evening all of the staff were amazing so friendly and very attentive! Special mention to our waitress Laura who was awesome! What a lovely young lady ! The food was sublime! I had the whole sea bass omg out of this world ! I cannot recommend this place enough , such a stunning restaurant in a beautiful location! We were just planning our return trip when I heard they were closing down in 3 weeks time , so disappointed and sad for the owners and all the staff what a shame what a sad loss 😞
