Back in Bovey Tracey after two years. At first disappointed that the coffee wagon was no longer in the Co-op car park but minutes later discovered the sign on the main street and delighted to find it was the same business in a simple welcoming shop space but equipped to make a good range of coffee and hot drinks and selling a tasty complementary selection of pastries etc. Some stools and bench shelves. They also have an arrangement for punters to use the abutting courtyard at the back of the cheese shop next door. Dogs are welcome in both spaces and water and treats freely available. We liked this hospitable and welcoming friendly cafe. All the better because so few places are open in BT on a Monday. Happy to recommend.

We had a lovely meal at the restaurant last night, having heard about it in the local press. The food was freshly cooked and imaginative, beautifully presented, and the service was swift and attentive. Maybe the only downside is that the wine list was very limited, but the wine we had was excellent. The setting here is great, but surprisingly the place was far from full. That was good for us, but small independent restaurants need support, so please consider visiting. We'll certainly be back.

Really splendid Sunday Lunch. Interesting and varied menu but could not resist the Devon beef and that was superb- absolutely melted in the mouth. Great selection of vegetables perfectly cooked, great gravy and home made horseradish that knocked your socks off. A lovely space, friendly staff and good wine list. All very reasonably priced - honestly if I lived in the area I would probably visit every week. It deserves to be booked out every week!

Desperately sad this place is to close. We've been fans from when it was in Bovey and not been out to Seale Hayne which I guess is part of the problem. The chef is a real talent, with particular expertise at starters and mains in our view. The food was superb, not least the amuse bouche which was one of the best arancini I've tasted. Starters of chorizo croquettes and wild mushrooms, with perfectly cooked and well balanced beef fillet and venison for main. Wonderful cooking and glorious presentation. We were well looked after by Tia who was friendly, welcoming and professional. All in all, another brilliant experience from this talented team and we wish them the very best of luck for whatever comes next. It has been a lucky privilege to enjoy their food and hospitality.

*****2024***** We went after a couple of visits and over a long period of years again and found out that The Cleave has had new owners quite recently. As one has to remember that food rating can be a very personal matter, we must say that this lunch (29th of Dec.) was absolutely exceptional and worth coming back. We have had a Sunday Roast with Pork and a beautiful Gamekeepers-Pie. The gravy was absolutely brilliant. Always remember to order an extra boat of gravy!! Service very very good and friendly with a warm welcome. So good, we asked to put us down for two more pre-booked visits. Can't wait. Go and have your experience, you won't regret it. Thanks to the Team and all the best for the new Year and new business. ***** 2019 ****** today I must write this review about my experience of my dish on Boxing Day 2019. I did order a Steak and Suet Pie. ..... THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY EXTRAORDINARY ....... what perfect and hearty dish, very very meaty at all. The chef did not sparse out on steak meat ( as you can sometimes normally encounter) I did wonder I could manage it at all. The veggies were perfectly prepared and all in all I loved it very very much. So ----- if you are around on Dartmoor go and visit LUSTLEIGH´s "THE CLEAVE". I hope they keep it for a good long time on the menu.

Rainy day, no menu visible from outside so we went in. Whilst the server was busy chatting we looked at the big board, but there were limited offerings for lunch so when she turned her attention to us, I asked if this was everything they offered (thinking there might be a written menu as well or something). She told me, fairly rudely, that that was everything they did and if we wanted something else we could go somewhere else, "not that I am trying to get rid of you.. ha ha", And so we did just that. Cant tell you what the food was like, but we did have a very nice lunch elsewhere!

Lovely festive breakfast. We were so well looked after it was amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was fresh and beautifully cooked. The decoration is amazing and although busy was well organised. I have low immunity and we were placed in a corner table and felt really safe. We loved it all. Thank you very much.

After a cold walk at Parke, our family, including my mother in law and toddler were very keen to get in the warm and look forward to tea and cake. We had planned our afternoon around it and looked online to check it was open. There were also many signs saying that they were open. So we were most disappointed when they had closed by 2.30 that afternoon. The lady at the national trust office said it was quiet so the owners had closed early, despite the car park being half full. She also said the national trust were independent from the cafe, despite having their logo on the actual cafe. It was very frustrating. A simple update on the website would have saved us from disappointment.
