Wonderful cosy pub with great food and drink selection. Staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was cosy with a good shower, but soft mattress was not for us and the soundproofing in room 4 wasn’t great. Overall highly recommended.

Located in the countryside, it had the local pub vibe, everyone was nice, the place was warm, the drinks were cold and the food exceptional. Could not recommend something in particular, because we had few dishes and one was better than the other. Also pets are allowed inside, which is awesome. Not regarding the location, if you are not staying at the Royal Oak, you need to book some transport in advance which is pretty expensive(we paid 65 pounds for a local gentleman to take us to and from the pub, for 8 miles in total). They have suggestions on their website.

We went for Sunday lunch and had a lovely time. Comfortably warm room with underfloor heating and art work on the walls. We had some salt and bopper squid to share, which came with an Asian dip. We had a burger which came with excellent fries and tasty brisket, 2 fish and chips, with crispy batter and succulent fish with great tartar sauce and chips and a roast beef. My husband said if was the best roast he'd had for a long time with very well cooked accompaniments. We had some sorbet and a caffè latte pannacotta and a very nice cheese board. Service was excellent as well. We'll definitely be back!

Nice lunch but sadly we were the only people in the pub and so no atmosphere. The food was good and simple fare. Would go again for that. The waitress was helpful but seem eager to rush away everytime we ordered anything. This seemed surprising as there wasn’t anyone else there. The landlady seemed really fed up and was full of negative stories about the trade at her pub and the area. Didn’t give a good impression sadly.

A beautiful little cafe hidden in the Chalke Valley. Tucked away behind the shop they serve a great choice of local cakes and coffee. The Dorset Apple Cake is a firm favourite. The service is amazing, always friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm. I would return anytime.

Friendly, welcoming, very helpful staff. I came to scout out the venue as I'd heard about the car meets they host & wanted to check accessibility. Courtyard/carpark is compacted gravel, thus wheelchair friendly & there is a ramp (complete with signs asking patrons not to block it with bicycles). Car parking is within a few metres of the door. I will definitely be back!

We turned up without a reservation and that was fine. We only had light lunches but they were excellent and homemade (watercress soup and salmon pate). It is a small, friendly, country pub. While clean and nicely decorated it has not been overly modernised.

Authentic and genuine old thatched pub with cosy atmosphere and excellent food and wine all at very reasonable prices. Privately owned and run by delightful husband and wife team with an eye on quality . We stayed in the charming 3 bedroom cottage next door which was lovely and remarkable value .

We booked dinner for 16 family members at the Talbot Inn which has recently reopened under new management headed by Polly who was simply amazing! She sent an excellent choice of courses to be prechosen which had something for everyone; coped with a couple of requests for non dairy and nuts and the resulting food was absolutely delicious. The wine was competitively priced and the whole evening in front of a blazing fire was one to remember. Thank you Polly for making this a very special evening.
