We went on a weekday evening and there was only us and a table of 2 who had finished eating in the restaurant area. Bar had 4/5 customers. Service was slow we had to go to bar to ask to take our order. Food was good, chips are tasty and good selection on menu. Place itself is cosy and warm. We will be returning but not sure why it was so quiet. We have been previously and been the only ones eating. It’s a shame as nice place with nice food.

The Priory restaurant at Burythorpe house offered us a marvellous lunch in every respect. The food was excellently cooked and presented. My starter of treacle-cured salmon with ginger dressing was refreshing and arranged beautifully on the plate with a type of rice cracker creation. Both our main courses were simple but cooked to perfection with fine attention to detail. I hope the chefs read this review. For dessert my partner had a sticky toffee pudding and said it was amazing, the best he had ever tested and I had a hard job keeping my hands off it, except mine was just as good - a ginger cake with rhubarb and white chocolate. It's hard to explain the depth of flavour, but in the case of the ginger cake, it came from contrasting textures and colours. For example, the fresh stewed rhubarb was accompanied by pureed rhubarb dressing the balls of white chocolate and little pieces of dried rhubarb creating a chewie, nuttier background flavour. These guys really know what they are doing. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and offered perfect service. The interior is elegant and unpretentious country house style. From the dining room we looked out onto fields with a church just visible in the distance. We will definitely go again. This place is only about 10 minutes drive from Malton and offers a far superior dining experience to more local pubs and restaurants.

The food here is outstanding. We had pigeon, mushrooms, pork belly and gammon steak between us and it was all cooked perfectly. A real highlight of our week-long trip. The service was brilliant. We also had a few awkward dietary requirements which were all handled with no trouble. We wish we lived more locally so we could come back sooner.

What a great little pub! We were visiting from down south for the weekend, and the locals made us feel so welcome. We had dinner here and the food was incredible and really reasonably priced. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures as we all dug in too quickly. Not only was the food delicious but the chef is generous with their portions too! They also explained that all their food is local produce to support the local farmers, which I thought was a nice touch. The staff were all very attentive and couldn't do enough for us. We plan to visit the area again in the summer and we will definitely be popping back to 'The Jolly Farmers'. Highly recommend!

We had booked based on its reputation then read recent reviews and wondered what to expect. We needn't have worried. Fortunately we had booked, as the pub was packed when we arrived. The food was all great, a really nice selection of starters, mains and puddings from a fairly small menu, which I always see as a good sign. We loved our lunch and will return.

We we were en route and saw this pub which looked decent enough. We were planning to just have a sandwich , which I did and it was very good, a real plateful for £7.25 and my husband had the scampi. We both agreed that the chips were superb . The service was warm and welcoming, the garden area was great ( but too hot for us to use ) . The place looks like it needs a bit of TLC but the food and service are worth calling in for .
