Food was great, especially the lamb chops. I came on boxing day, it was a little busy but there was lovely service from the waiters too!

The lassi and mushroom pilav were subpar, to say the least. The lassi did not taste fresh, and the mushroom pilav was bland and tasted more like jeera rice. The prawn balti was hot but lacked any other real flavour. The naan that came along with it was quite good. The service was slow (even though I was initially the only one there), and the manager occasionally preferred to chat with others (in person and on the phone) over taking the table's order. There are plenty of Indian restaurants around, many of which are good. This one has some way to go before it can be considered half-decent.

Came here on 13th december, i really like this restaraunt. Everything overall was excellent, including the price. Great value. I’ll advise you to try. I’ll definitely be coming back

No idea why they put coconut in the butter chicken. Did a take out with butter chicken and nan, along with starter. The coconut in yhe butter chicken just ruined it. If I had known I wouldn't have ordered this. Nobody else ever put coconut in butter chicken. I only came here because another restaurant I buy from was closed for a function. Won't come here again.

Tamarind chicken used to be amazing, something changed. Nowhere near as good now.

Bryani was dry and over cooked had no flavour in taste Daal also same, garlic naan was nice

This was nothing like real Indian food. Biriyani was like spiced rice with no real flavour, very bland. The Chicken Vindaloo, was spicy but again, lacked any real flavour, the CTM was like tomato sauce and sugar,no real substance.

Really, really good food. Traditional Indian restaurant, not poncy, just good quality and a very reasonable price.

They charge compulsory service charge. However as per law, it is optional. My fiance spoke on this and the guy was totally rude and had no sense of speaking or greeting customers and treated us like some low class immigrants. It was 10% service charge. We asked about if it is optional or mandatory, he said mandatory. I am not an expert, but as per sources, it is totally upto us if we want to get it removed or not. Not going there anymore.

Will never order again from this place. They send me nan breads that looks like it was made the week before. They were so burned and dry that no one was able to chew on them. I contacted the restaurant to let them know in which they’ve asked me to send images on wassup but they never gotten back to me even after I calling them again. The worst customer service and money spend on food I have ever done on an Indian Take a way. Pure waists of my money!

Always empty. Possible people do not prefer this place. The food was raw and not cooked well. I had visited from India and I did not expect this.

I would not eat at this Indian restaurant again. The food was undercooked, and I ended up with food poisoning because the chicken was raw. When I asked for a replacement, they brought out a new dish after everyone else had finished eating, and it was still undercooked. I would never go here again or recommend it. It's the only Indian restaurant on Westerly Road, which is probably why people go here. The only decent thing was the naan bread.

UPDATE: I just returned after being away for 4 years and am delighted to see same owner and the same high standard of food. Honestly, it's hard being a smaller restaurant these days and I know Aniseed has struggled to find staff which is in no way their fault. I will do all I can to promote this great part of our local community to keep it alive. ORIGINAL: I've been coming here for over 5 years and have never had a bad meal. Food is always fresh, reasonably priced and served by polite staff. I'm very fussy about food and restaurant service so I don't give 5 stars lightly. Also please ignore all the one star reviews from Indian people. Clearly competitors trying to slander other restaurants.

The food here is great and the staff friendly. However recently they seem to be short staffed and tend to give a preference to online orders / deliveries rather than the customers sat at the tables.

Small but nice. Great food for little money. Especially in London. I would happily recommend it.

Food was average, the staff are lovely apart from the manager/owner who is very rude and abrupt, second time trying this place out and was not impressed, thought maybe first time because they where busy the customer service was bad but even when the place was quiet, still the same service. Lime bar restaurant next door is much better!

Had the Lamb Tikka Marsala along with the lemon rice and garlic nan. Also had a yummy mango lasie.

Had a wonderful meal. Food excellent with excellent service. The food is genuine south Asian food, some of the tastiest I've ever had. I highly recommend a visit!

I ordered and collected food but it wasn’t the best as I was sick afterwards because the wings were UNDERCOOKED. When I called back to complain, I was told that I should come back to collect COOKED wings as there was no drivers available to deliver to me (which I didn’t). They said they will put a note on my file, so I can get it free next time. I won’t be going back. Even putting this review is making my belly turn 🤮 pictures to follow…

The restaurant forgot some items in my order. I called them and they immediately delivered the missing items plus some additional stuff. We all make mistakes but its the way you deal with them that matters. Highly recommended.

On walking in I was dismayed to find that, at towards the back of the restaurant there was a loud group of foul mouthed, middle aged men finishing off their meal. Thank goodness that they were close to leaving so that I only had to put up with their loud, uncouth foul language for 10 minutes or so. After they had left I could focus on my meal in what was a practically deserted restaurant. I ordered a large, chilled Cobra beer, papadums and pickles, onion bhajis, spicy chicken Vindaloo and pilau rice. All good. The service was great. Friendly, polite and at least one of the guys was ready to joke with me about their music which was anything other than atmospheric Indian. But at least he found one tune which enhanced the atmosphere of such an establishment.

Delivery came right on time. The food was hot when it arrived and was all delicious. Loved that there were spice level options for the traditional curries, so I ordered a hot korma and wasn't disappointed. The dansak, butter chicken and chicken tikka masala we're all great too. Will definitely be ordering again!

Good food and atmosphere was good too

First time eating in restaurant. Food was great. Good service but when bill was brought, service charge was added but it wasn't clear as it was a handwritten receipt and waitress also asked for tip in cash after we paid by card in full. We felt guilty thinking card payment didn't include tip so left additional cash. Checked receipt later and felt it was underhanded.

Heard good reviews so thought I'd check it out. Hugely disappointed! Ordered a starter mixed grill - on menu it stated onion bhaji, sheek kebab, samosa, tikka and paneer. When it got delivered there was no sheek kebab. When I called to enquire, I was told they don't give fulll size kebab, but 1/6 ? Come on, who serves like that? The butter chicken was tasteless, hardly no chicken and full of sauce. The naan were dry with no butter. Only thing tasted nice was the saag aloo. They maybe cheaper than the other locals, but definitely cut corners and compromise the taste. Luckily, I didn't place a big order as I just wanted to try it out - won't be ordering again!

Everything was okay this time oddly enough it was the Coke that tasted completely watered down. Not the restaurants fault but maybe check the bottles… wasn’t even fizzy and everyone agreed it was completely dead, but not just dead… watered down. Food was on point. I won’t be ordering fries however as they’re no longer crisp, if you order fries expect them to be soggy and very oily.

NEVER AGAIN BE CAREFUL OF THIS SCUMMY RESTAURANT The place was was so quite and the owner was saving his electric or gas without putting the heating system !!! We orderd some lamb dishes Yuuuk salty and slimy god knows when they precooked the lamb and chicken was okay apart from watery and lack of spices anyway somehow we managed to just take few bites and kill the hungriness and we had to buy a pizza on the way to home When it comes to the bill they added another £17.50 to bill without anything written on the menu or telling us about this scum when question we don’t want to pay that after spending a lot of money on some precooked meals e.g lamb salty and slimy the owner responded you have to pay that’s part of the bill how is it part of the bill when we didn’t even eat anything that was £17.50 you don’t even have anything on the menu that your selling for £17.50 then he got angry and said we always add a amount according to the bill and everyone pays. I was shocked and like mate why don’t just say yes it’s a sly way of scumming money out of customers for service charge without anything written on the menu or even on your personal sly scummy system of yours NEVER AGAIN BE CAREFUL OF THIS SCUMMY RESTAURANT

Seriously, the measly portion sizes. Disappointed on this occasion.

I order from here all the time! If a manager reads this pls do call me. It was Diwali and I made a big order. The food came fast and I was impressed. The food tasted Bland and Rushed. The chicken was not done correctly, the mains were watered down and runny and the naans got smaller?? Why did you guys pick Diwali to mess up my order. Every other time it's been perfect! The chips were soggy and full of oil. Nothing like they usually are. It was such an embarrassment. Very very disappointed.

Food was terrible, the chicken winks must have come from the smalles chicken in the world, everything tasted odd and over spiced and the king prawn puré was like cardboard, terrible food just terrible!

Great quality beautifully cooked love the meal

Every dish I ordered was absolutely magnificent. Chicken was to die for and the Bombay Aloo had wonderfully fluffy and skinless potatoes. Not had Indian food for the last few months and it was great to have it once again with such outstanding quality. A real shame that I don't live in the area as this would instantly be on my list of go-to places for takeaway food.

Got a Just Eat order from here and wowz absolutely blown away. The Bombay Aloo, Chicken Bhuna, Chicken Chaat and even the Pilau Rice were absolutely wonderful. All absolutely exceeded my expectations and made for the best food order I've ever had. It all came to just under £17 (As of October 2023) which I'd say was brilliant value for what I got. Will definitely be making an order from here again when I'm in East London again as this place really was outstanding in every way of the word.

Nice food, nothing to say other than the meal was good; the food came quickly and Neal was enjoyed. Why the poor review …? Personally I find it completely unacceptable when a restaurant adds 10% to a bill, especially when there is nothing written anywhere on their menu to tell customers that this is ‘the policy’ Be aware if you choose to eat here that you’ll have a surcharge added. At the very least it should be clear to visitors that there will be 10% added. To just add it however is totally wrong.

Food was late, but 100% not the driver or restaurants' faults. There was really bad traffic and the driver did call to advise me of this. Bit cheeky that he put it as delivered even though it actually wasn't. But I forgive him for keeping me informed.

A decent restaurant to have dinner, atmosphere was bit dull however service was alright. I wouldn't say its very authentic Indian food as they advertise but they are very close.

I loved it. Lots of different Indian restaurants in the area but each has its own different take on things and Aniseed is no different. However, the food is in excellent, the prices very reasonable, the service excellent, and the restaurant and it's decor very well done and the place is spotless. We had mixed appetizers, special house brianni, chicken korma and sesame naan. All excellent and most tasty, and the spice level perfect. Parking on the street is tight but can be found, and it is handicap accessible and friendly. Highly recommended.

Despite an early menu mix up, service was good and the food better. Despite comments about the price, pappadums, rice, curry and naan (shared) and 2 drinks each came to 39.99. If this is expensive to you, you haven't eaten out lately

First time trying this place and apart from a slight delay which wasn’t an issue it was perfect. Delivery driver was lovely, food was great, and fair price. What more could ya want.
