Blacklock Restaurant Canary Wharf in Tower Hamlets

They completely forgot about my order, and I was left waiting for more than 30 minutes. (When I arrived the restaurant was basically empty. I was given a glass of tap water, the glass had visible limescale.) It used to be a nice place, but I cannot recommend it anymora.

Back at Ippudo for more of the best ramen today, again with extra mushrooms. The perfect lunch for a cold and windy day in London. A pot of smoked green tea to wash it down. Yum! Highly recommend!

The ramen was delicious but the portion left me still hungry, especially for the price. My friend's ramen arrived so late I was almost done with mine.

I have visited Ippudo twice. The first time I loved it and the second time not so much. There is a variation in the attention you get from the staff and while some are super nice and patient there are certain folks not so much. I also noticed that the proportion of meat to ramen reduced between the two visits I have made here. While it could be because of the type of ramen I had (shoryu vs tonketsu), I am forced to ponder about the value for money. The food presentation is also spectacular and I would sometimes think twice before disturbing the food. The place is rather busy due to the prime location and sometimes you have to struggle to get their attention but they are really polite and receptive. The atmosphere is good as well especially for meeting up with friends and colleagues but I think many joints across London really challenge in terms of the entire experience. I also preferred the shoryu over the tonkatsu base but YMMV. There are very less options for vegan folk because the noodles all have egg in them, except for 2 options that I can't seem to remember at the time of this writing. The Takoyaki is also recommended but I found the sauce really off - sweet, fermented and metallic. I was also presented with a wobbly table that partly ruined my experience. I wouldn't skip this place if I crave Japanese and I am in the locality coz the total experience is soulful and unique but I would think twice and delay Japanese for another day if I have the choice and time. Verdict : Casual and slighltly loud Japanese good for meet-ups and with not many vegan options. Portion not worth the price but unique if you value the plating as much as the taste.

Incredible. The smell hits you as you exit Canary Wharf station. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and a warm welcome was waiting for us. The food is incredible. Started with pigs head on toast with the mushrooms on toast. Both packed with flavour and set the tone for the meal. We shared a prime rib for main with chips (fried in beef dripping) with kale and Parmesan. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sides worked beautifully. The sauces we had were Blacklock (peppercorn) and garlic bone marrow. Both were delicious and I would highly recommend. To finish we had the cheesecake and bread and butter pudding respectively. Both very light and flavoursome. All in all, the staff were friendly, approachable, welcoming and great hosts. The drinks complimented the food excellently. The prices were a fair reflection for the food we enjoyed. We will be back.

We had a really good experience at Blacklock in Canary Wharf. Staff were so welcoming and friendly! We only went for lunch so I got the steak sarnie with chips which was extremely good! It was my dad’s 60th birthday and they kindly (and secretly) made him a delicious birthday cheesecake which he really appreciated! The quality of all the food was outstanding, I’d highly recommend a visit!

This place was never anything special... Lots of better ramen places every where in London. Haven't been here for over a year... Been again today, over priced, small portions, only 2 thin slices of meat, doesn't even taste good...

Great food but long waiting to be sitting

We had a delicious family dinner at Blacklock, and excellent drinks. Our food took a while to arrive, because we asked for our meat to be cooked 'well done', but it was well worth the wait. Staff comped us a free cocktail, a free starter, and gravy-soaked bread (which was to die for; *so* good!) during the wait. My sister and our friend went 'all in', ordering the selection of meat cuts/types to share. I had the rib eye and my bro in law had lamb rump steak. We all enjoyed the charred sweet potato sides, which was seasoned to perfection. The broccoli and walnut salad was flavoursome but we wouldn't order it again. My sis enjoyed the white chocolate cheesecake dessert with berry compote, but the rest of us were too stuffed for dessert! We received excellent service from Josh throughout (thank you!) despite the restaurant being quite busy by the time we left. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to dine here again.

As an American, not an expert on Sunday roast but we had one here and it was great — the beef and lamb roasts were delicious, the pork not as much; carrots and potatoes really good. Seemed a bit less touristy than your typical restaurant in central London, which was nice.

One of the nicest meals I’ve had accompanied by some of the best service I’ve ever had. The food was a pleasure and so was Lewis. Would 100% Recommended. Very knowledgable person

The food is predictably good for this chain. But this particular branch seems to have a very bad door attendant who is supposed to allocate seats. My partner and I joined the queue outside the restaurant in the cold, and waited for a long time while there were many visible free seats in the restaurant. I went in the restaurant to complain about the unnecessary wait but the door attendant told me that he saw us joined the queue and have only waited for 5 minutes. I was appalled by the fact that he decided how I should spend the 5 minutes of my day; and how he measured or valued his time. Not many people have 5 minutes to waste unnecessarily in Canary Wharf.

Service was adequate and prompt; even though it was full, we did not have to wait long. Food: the spicy char siu ramen was delicious, with a perfect combination of spice and flavour; I especially appreciated the soup, which was satisfying despite being a little small. Would return again. One thing to keep in mind is that while this is not a cheap restaurant, you are paying for authentic Japanese cuisine.

We came in for a quick bite to eat, the staff were absolutely terrific greeted with smiles during every step from when we were greeted by the door to being served food and paying. The food was was very tasty and affordable as this was our first time the staff was pretty helpful. We had a lovely women serve us and greet us which were, Durg, Alvera and Marsha (I apologise for any misspelling of names). I recommend the chicken meatball meal it was packed with flavour and had just the right spice, only thing I would say is the chicken katsu isn’t as tasty it’s more on the bland side in my opinion. Any problems we had with the table the girls handled it kindly and swiftly.

Nice ramen, good service and nice atmosphere

Hello everyone, it’s really hard to eat. Don’t come and eat it. It’s very, very salty. The noodles are not authentic, and it feels like they’re thrown away right after they’re served. There’s no plating to speak of. A bowl of 19 pounds is really not a good deal. Da 咩咩咩咩❤️😁😁

We go here quite a lot and never been disappointed with the quality of food. Staff are always welcoming.

I live in Canary Wharf and have eaten there a few times, as I like ramen and warm soup. Ippudo there is definitely overhyped. I always order "very firm". Half the time, they still give me soft or medium. Super annoying. The service is also very bad. They are slow, unattentive, and keep forgetting orders. Ramen itself is mediocre. But if you get soft noodles half the time but prefer authentic firm bite, it just kills the whole purpose of eating ramen. That's why 1 Star.

Great place for ramen, really good for solo eaters as you can sit at the bar or there's seating along the windows. (Be warned: Sitting next to the window means people who are queuing to enter will be able to watch you eat)

Here for a quick bite, there’s a queue outside but I was lucky to get in immediately as “1 person”and sit looking at the window. Quite nice! For food, meet the expectation, just like all the other Ipuddo in London or, even, in Japan. However, price point is way more expensive than Ipuddo in France or Japan. assume it is reasonable because it is in London.

Don't come to this place. The service here is terrible. I understand that the restaurant might have rules about not adding extra soup, but the attitude of the staff was truly unacceptable. One of the Asian male waiters had an especially bad attitude. I ordered an extra portion of noodles, but they gave so little soup that the noodles were incredibly dry. When I politely asked for a little more soup, he didn’t even look me in the eye, flatly refused me, and walked away. Absolutely awful!

I passed this empty bar/restaurant just after 5pm, upon seeing a big sign in the window advertising a happy hour (pint of beer £5), I walked in and politely asked for a pint and indicated ill sit by the window, out of the way of potential diners. They said no. They didn't offer an explanation, and I didn't wait around for one. Very strange to refuse service in an empty restaurant.

Only my second time to a Blacklock but the food is great. The Sunday Roast is amazing and better than you will find anywhere else. Cooked perfectly and the gravy is so tasty. Make sure you have the cheesecake for dessert it is delicious!

Used to go to Ippudo 3/4 years ago and was always a highlight and I always used to leave super full and satisfied.. I lived in the area too and frequented the exact same branch so when I decided to try it again after I moved back in CW recently I’ve ordered through uber eats and what a disappointment. £17 for a ramen that didn’t even have three mouthfuls of noodles in it, the portions are shocking!! The only reason why I’ve given the food two stars is the fact that the broth is still nice. I’ve also paid £8 for gyozas that looked more like jokes.. they were SO TINY. FOR EIGHT POUNDS. Have they changed owners or something? I’m happy to pay £15+ for ramen although pricey, as long as you give me enough to feed me at least!

The service was terrible! No menu was offered after we were seated, and when I asked a waitress for the menu, she looked at me but pretended not to see me and walked away. The attitude of other service staff was also very indifferent. The whole experience made me feel uncomfortable. Definitely will not come again!

I entered the restaurant with my partner hoping to have a nice bowl of ramen on a cold autumn evening. We stood by the entrance for about 10 minutes waiting to just be acknowledged by the staff. We would have happily waited longer if someone just came up to us and said something. Anything. Instead we watched as the front of house staff took payments, cleaned tables, set empty tables (it was half empty) and serve food delivery drivers. We stood there, almost in disbelief, until we couldn’t accept it any longer. The final straw was the man waiting in front of us asking for the manager and if he could be seated. The man then said he was the manager and rudely instructed the man to wait in the corner and then continued to ignore all of us. I have been before and had an okay experience and good food, so we were both very disappointed. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect the very least from restaurant staff. Say hello, welcome, sorry, I don’t care! Just say something!!

We have travelled for hours just to get to an Ippuddo, ince every few months. I ALWAYSSSS know what I am going to order. Loveeeee the Hirata Buns: Chicken Katsu & Spicy shrimp and the Inferno Chicken Don. Yummilicious!! Can't wait for our next visit.

Excellent ramen, speedy service

Nice quiet spot on a Wednesday evening for a birthday meal with my son. Friendly and attentive staff, menu and food once arrived explained with ease. great cocktails! Our food arrived quickly and we were impressed with the quality.. Both agreed we would certainly be back, very enjoyable evening spent at a lovely restaurant. The complimentary dessert & shots were a welcomed surprise, appreciative of the birthday treat!

Went for lunch with my family Saturday afternoon, the food was absolutely fantastic a real treat for us and the taste we won't forget. Fiver for a glass of there own IPA brew!! In canary wharf!! Everything was great the guys serving us were professional and polite and knowledgeable and quick as....we will definitely return. Thanks

Overall the food was pretty limited but it was a 7/10 for me. I did take a little while to arrive but it was alright, Your greeted with a very big welcome and a smile! The drinks where amazing and came out immediately! It was good value for money and I would DEFINITELY go there again

Evening meal before heading off to the Abba Arena. Food was excellent. Very good at taking care of my wife's food allergy - Coeliac. Service was great with a good atmosphere for 1845 in the evening. Would recommend.

My my my!!! What a hidden gem! This place took me by surprise! The team are so friendly. Big shoutout to Dave who recommended the ribs. He went the extra mile and printed out the receipe for me. They were immense! What a legend thanks for making our date day so memorable. Would highly recommend!!!!

One of the best ramen in London, exquisite. The place is beautiful, the staff's attention is very good and the price is reasonable, you couldn't ask for more!

Reliable for a quick dinner, tasty enough food, quick and efficient service and cold beer.

The food there was great, we weren’t disappointed. The service however could be much better. We were sat at the counter and given menus but nobody came to take our order. We called a first waiter who told us to “wait a sec” and never came. Another one told us to wait, came, and as we started to order called his colleague to take over, which was pretty rude.

Takes forever to even get the attention of the waiters to come to take my orders. Takes forever to get the bill. Always happens. Heavily under staffed. Great food though

I came to Ippudo to have dinner with my pregnant wife. I finished my ramen but she only eat a third of it. We ask the staff to take away and we got told that they don’t do that with Ramen. It’s a strange policy taken in consideration that I paid for the Ramen. I’m disappointed. Is this store policy? Did I miss where it’s advertised?

Just wanted to share that we had a lovely experience at Ippudo! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming! Our waiter, Francesco was a true gem! He was friendly and funny and made sure everything was great! Thank you so much Francesco! The food was lovely me and my friends absolutely loved everything! Highly recommend to check it out❤️

Not good. Always been a fan of Ippudo but the last visit that we had was awful. Food came out so fast that surely everything was pre made - and the ramen was not as good as it used to be. Definitely not recommended

We visited as a group of 4 for dinner, and while the staff service met our expectations, the quality of the food was severely disappointing. The ramen we ordered was poorly prepared; the texture was off, and we had to request a replacement. The once bold and rich ramen broth had become bland and lacked the depth of flavour it used to have. To add to the dissatisfaction, the eggs were served cold on the inside, which was quite appalling. Unfortunately, this Ippudo location seems to have lost the quality it was once known for. Whether it’s due to a change in staff, a deviation from the original recipe, or the use of cheaper ingredients, the overall experience left much to be desired. What was once a place we eagerly returned to for its consistent excellence has now become a disappointment. After the last visit, I am definitely not return again.

Completely overpriced now, recent increase makes it completely not worth it. We used to come frequently, not anymore.

Recently visited this Japanese restaurant with some friends on an evening out. Whilst our visit wasn't a total disaster, we left feeling pretty dissatisfied with our experience. When we arrived, we were seated very quickly, but it was perhaps about 20-25 minutes after being seated before someone came to take our order. About 5 minutes after, the waiter came back to inform me that the kitchen had run out of rice (!!!) and I would therefore need to choose an alternative. When I asked if I could just have my katsu curry dish served with noodles instead, I was told no as they would not change the recipe. We ordered extra noodles for our ramen dishes but these were brought out before the ramen, so we had plates of plain noodles sat on the table going cold whilst we waited for the ramen. This was eventually brought out about 5 minutes later, but both veggie ramen dishes were missing their mushrooms, and tasted pretty thin as a result. Staff were clearly quite keen for us to vacate a.s.a.p. as lights were being turned up before we'd finished eating (bear in mind we waited quite a while for our initial service!) and our drinks were cleared from the table before we were finished, despite there being at least a quarter of my glass of sake left! Overall service just lacked care and professionalism with dishes being just dumped on the table without saying what they were or passing them to the appropriate guests. And finally, our bill came with a mandatory service charge applied just to add insult to injury! The only redeeming feature is that the ramen I had did taste nice, but it wasn't particularly special. The overall experience was ultimately pretty poor, and I won't be returning to this restaurant again.

This one's happening in Feb. The stuff there was rude and treated Asian people differently from others. The guy told us to wait so we stood there for 20 min or more, but when white people walked in they can directly choose their seat. It's racism. I don't wanna visit anymore.

The food overall was good, but I would say it's a little overpriced for a ramen place. For 2 ramens, 2 bao buns, and 1 drink, the total came to around £50.

Steak and chips and dessert were top class unbelievable food and friendly staff worth it. I had the bread/gravy unreal flavours will be back to this place and the white chocolate cheese cake and apple crumble were 100% class 😋 👌 🙌

Our experience for a birthday treat was mixed. Friendly, speedy service, superb starter of ribs and nice cheesecake dessert. We were expecting great things of the "all-in" roast. The beef was wonderful but the lamb and pork lacked taste. The gravy and vegetables were good yet the roasties were unfortunately quite dry. So it was ok overall but were hoping for a bit more to be honest.

My friend and I were finally able to dine here on a Sunday having prebooked a table well in advance via their website. We can see why it's so hard to get a reservation as the Sunday roast was the best we have ever had. We went for the all-in sharing platter with additional cauliflower cheese on the side and everything tasted incredible. The meat was top quality and the portion sizes were very generous. Even though we were stuffed we managed to squeeze in some of their white chocolate cheesecake which is scooped out on to your plate table side - it was delicious. Overall, this is one of our favourite restaurants. The ambience, service and food is always excellent. We shall definately be back.

Visited as a birthday treat for my son, based on the good reviews I’d read. I really like the dark wood interiors and the way the building integrates into the bridge pillars. Our server was very friendly and guided us through the options. There was a mess up with our order, but it was sorted quickly and generously. The bite starters were really tasty, but the steaks were the star, especially the Denver which I had never had before. Great chips. The gravy was fantastic - in a different galaxy to Bisto! Personally I think it worth adding an additional dish to offset all the richness, which in my case was delicious Heritage tomatoes. There are vegetarian options, but really this is a red meat venue. There is a good range of cocktails and some nice craft beers, plus decent wines. For the location and quality of food I’d judge this very good value for money.

Oh my my!!!! One of the best Japanese food I’ve have ever had. The atmosphere, customer service and cleanliness compliments the food they serve. Their broth is out of this world and as a conscious eater the food is not greasy and is light on the digestive system. I started off with the Yaki Gyoza, then the sweet chilli shrimp bun & the Tori Shoyu a silky whole chicken broth, washed down with green tea. Thanks to the staff for such a satisfying relaxing Sunday lunch. I’ll be back and highly recommend your restaurant.

Avoid this place, the staff are awful and so was the food. Terrible service, atmosphere and quality of food, then receive a large bill for the pleasure.

Shockingly terrible. I was a regular of Ippudo in both Singapore and Sydney. The quality in London is does not even compare. Horrible food, sloppy service and icky tables. If you're in Canary Wharf and want Japanese food, go next door to Sticks n Sushi. For ramen, it's worth it to take the tube elsewhere or pick up ingredients from Tian Tian Supermarket in Canada Square and make your own. The food and experience was so bad we specifically requested for the service charge to be removed from the bill. Never again!

Best ramen you’ll find. Only place that always has a queue to get in cause it’s that good. But max I’ve ever waited is 10 minutes. 100% recommend

Even though there are a lot of empty seats, we still have to queue up outside. I don’t know if it’s because the waiters are inefficient or because they are engaging in hunger marketing. I’m speechless.

Must visit restaurant! I always get the chicken ramen with boiled egg, plus chicken buns. Nowhere else does better!! The queue is worth the wait.

We visited as a group - we’d suggested black lock to some friends to celebrate his birthday after coming previously as a couple and not finding a single fault with the restaurant - however, when visiting with our friends we didn’t feel there was much customer service. Staff are all lovely and friendly - food was great but the staff were not as attentive as in the past we were in the middle of the room so people were constantly running around us but very few people stopped at our table throughout the meal, we had to ask for food to be removed and we had to call out staff for more drinks. That being said the food was still really nice - the waiter had missed a side off of our order but they sorted that out for us at the table when food arrived. All in all it wouldn’t put me off coming again but it would make me think about referring to a friend in terms of customer services.

Nice atmosphere, nice drinks, food mid. Tastes great at first, but small amounts of pork in ramen and unchewable octoupus in takoyaki. Overall still a positive experience.

Food was good. The staff need better training. There is a long queue outside but there were many empty tables or tables with dirty plates. The staff are just randomly walking around without much purpose.

Overall a solid 4/5 Service was decent and quick, though it was crowded still didn’t have to wait too long. Food: we had the veg buns and spicy veggie ramen .The buns were soft shell with crunchy core and brilliant in taste, the spicy veggie ramen was excellent in taste with great balance of spice and taste, definitely filling For dessert we had mochi: chocolate, coconut and raspberry. It was delicious! Would definitely come back again One thing to note is that this is not a value for money place but you are spending for authentic Japanese cuisine

The food was ok but you can have much better Japanese food in another place in London with the same pay. The attitude and service are unbearable! I don’t see the point asking people to wait and queue outside while there are almost half of the tables are available and it was raining outside! I can feel that the host waiter hate his job. When I asked for more water(because the food was too salty), he tuned back and said nothing and continued to serve other table like I am nothing. I tried to make eye contact with him many times, and finally he brought the pitcher and filled my glass, but he literally splashed water on my face without apologizing. The whole experience made me feel like I owed money to him and the restaurant. Definitely will not come again!

The man got 2 orders wrong out of a table of 5. Not a problem in most cases except the table punished as they made the 2 people in our party wait 40 minutes. We explained exactly what we wanted and it came eventually. We had to ask a total of 4 people including the man. Not even a sorry. We had no time to argue to remove the service charge because of the bad service as we were running of the time but we paid to get bad service on top of our food. Adding my review here from 2 years ago: Dinner Avoid until they can sort themselves out. Lots of spare tables and random application of distance between groups of diners. Quality has also gone down recently (if you can eat)

It's not udon noodles, it looks like dried noodles, a bit hard. It claims to be made from chicken soup, but in fact the MSG smell is very strong. You will be very thirsty after drinking the soup. There were a lot of people in the store and the seats were packed. Maybe it’s more in line with British tastes

I went to Ippudo Canary Wharf for the first time yesterday. The food was good, similar to what I had in Japan. But the service was non-existence. The 12.5% service charge is not justified at all. Not saying the staff were rude, but they were just too busy, kept us waiting for a long time, took the order, put the food on the table, that was it. It felt like paying 12.5% service charge to McDonald's! I wanted to ask them to replace the dirty cup of water they gave us, there was no one serving us. I took another glass myself at the end. I felt like I went to a fast food restaurant, they really shouldn't charge 12.5% service charge. If I wasn't with my friends, I would just ask them to remove the service charge from the bill.

Terrible service. One of the waiters literally waved me off when I wanted to ask for a pair of chopsticks for my ramen. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, thinking he was busy and would come back to ask what I wanted. Never did. Never going back even if this were the last ramen shop in London.

Friend and I really enjoyed it. It was a spontaneous decision and we liked the food, prices are good too. Portions are generous and food was tasty. I only didn't like the proximity of the restrooms to some tables. More of a quick meal kinda location than a proper restaurant feel. Good for solo diners also due to the table set up.

Very busy ramen shop but the taste of noodle is exceptionally good. However the price is not ideal that i wouldn’t come back more often. 🥲

Had shiromaru tamago, nice pork bone broth with very firmed noddles, if you like authentic Japanese ramen you must try their very firmed option ! Service was nice and friendly too!

Great place to meet with a friend or two for dinner.

The service is really bad. We dined in today, ordered our ramen to the waitress, but she forgot to put our order into the system and made us wait for an hour. What's worse is that she doesn't say or feel sorry at all throughout as if it's not a big deal at all.

Nice foods with decent service and atmosphere, we paid £90 for 2 bowls of ramen and 3 x starters and 2 x beers with an apple juice, it costs higher than I expected, taken off 1 star due to this.

Absolutely love this place. Great food and atmosphere. Wish there was one closer to home!

The ramen are ok but too expensive for what they are. My biggest concern is around dietary requirements. Their menu doesn't show the allergens present in their dishes, and when we asked the waiter about allergens in specific dishes, his answers were tentative which didn't fill me with confidence. For a big chain, this lack of transparency is a massive let down.

Very underwhelming rice - broth is okay but very little toppings and extra £2 for an egg.. service also seems to ignore you whilst waving and doesn't come as most friendly. Won't be coming back.

Service is extremely shocking. We wait for 30 minutes to get our ramen and then when we ask for our bill we wait another 15 minutes and no one comes to our table. When I lose all hopes to get one single staff from this company and decide to pay cash the staff in the photo ask me not to go away as this company does not take cash. He robotically point to his colleague and said the other guy will come and take the card payment.
