Lovely carvery and mint aero cheesecake. Service was good and no wait as we booked in advance.

We love coming to the Brasserie as we are never disappointed.The carvery is excellent and the menu is also plentiful in choice.Even though they were very busy with Christmas parties , we didn't have to wait long for our food.I found booking on line essential, as we wouldn't have got in. We will be there again in the New Year. Perhaps a few discount vouchers would be welcome in the low months. Happy Christmas to you all.

We have visited carriages several times, but the vegetables and potatoes do need to improve to a better standard.

Great place for the afternoon tea. Delicious sandwiches and fresh bakeries.

Stopped for a late lunch. Nothing special, chilli jacket potato, no butter on the jacket and the chilli was wet. Turkey sandwich was ok, bread wasn't fresh. Would try again at a later date. 6/10

I've been here several times, all of them so far have been underwhelming. Last year I ended up sick after eating some halloumi fries. This time the food was quite dry and we weren't offered any sauce. The building is nice, but the food and the service is always a bit disappointing and awkward. It's a bit out of the way and not usually worth the effort.

Came here for my best mates wedding. What a place. Great service great entertainment clean and tidy 10 out of 10. If your looking to start your amazing journey together and have a amazing place for that speacil day I would recommend having a look. Great spaces child friendly all drinks are well priced . The carvery was up there with the best of them.

A fabulous Sunday lunch at Carriages A well presented dinning room, nicely laid table. With well mannered and attentive staff, and of course very tasty food and delicious desserts

Great food and staff and atmosphere

As always seems the case with function rooms the bar service area and staff is not adequate for the amount of people attending so queuing 4-5 deep for service is par for the course. Bottles of prosecco £7 cheaper from main bar!!

The staff were lovely, they looked after us and our Mum really well. The carvery was a good standard.

Excellent venue... was there many years ago and couldn't even get a coffee... but now its a thriving venue with a great atmosphere backed up by great service and good food. Its part of the Brend group of hotels so no wonder its good!

Went in with a few friends for a Sunday carvery. Relaxed atmosphere attentive staff, great quality carvery, well prepared . Helpful staff. Reasonable pricing. Beer selection was limited, no cask ales only keg. Wine selection was average , slightly expensive wines but quality of the rioja we had was great. I didn't have a dessert but my friends enjoyed the desserts. About £65 a head for drinks, dessert and carvery. Great find and great eating out experience overall.

Stayed at The Devon Hotel next door so this was the obvious choice for dinner. Service was good and the restaurant was clean. Food was very good and portion sizes were just right. The cooked breakfast the next day, which was included in the room rate, was also very good. Would definitely eat here again when in the area.

This is the sort of place that you would go to if you were trying to impress a customer, but I would prefer a more relaxed and cosy atmosphere. The food was ok - I had a chilli chicken noodle dish which was quite sweet. I think they used sweet and sour sauce which got diluted and left a pool of juice in the bowl. Service was great, but I think she wanted to go home by the time we ordered coffee.

I came here to work whilst my car was being serviced nearby. Wi-Fi was fast and perfect for working. Stayed for a coffee in the morning and had a sandwich for lunch.

Service was prompt and efficient. One starter was missed and changed into a main. Soon rectified when told. One drink was missed and another given instead. Food good and nice setting

Went her for a carvery a few weeks ago. We were all really disappointed. Meat and veg on but the roast potatoes were terrible. They were hard and chewy tasted like a frozen roast potato. Wouldn’t recommend at this moment in time.

We often come here for lunch and evening meals, food is always great and the service is always tip top, professional, friendly this is a rarity these days. We popped in today on the way home from a long journey on the off chance they had a free table. We sat in the bar, they were extremely busy but plenty of staff, food was very timely, delicious and staff were brilliant as usual, there was no sign they were under pressure and very busy. Keep up the fantastic food and service.

I have not stayed but have attended events there in the past. They dress the room up beautifully, the staff are always accommodating and the food has been good .

Had a family evening meal on Thursday 6th July 2023 and we all chose the Carvery. The food was delicious and our waiter Ollie was fantastic. He was friendly, attentive, polite, helpful and personable, contributing to a most pleasurable dining experience. Outstanding service, thank you. Highly Recommended.

The food has always been excellent, but unfortunately this time, although the steak was tasty it was disappointingly fatty with only a small percentage of edible meat.

Lovely food, great staff, lovely place - but please could the locks be fixed in the loos! Only thing that lets it down. Its a lovely place and highly recommended. We had a lovely time. Thank you.

Went last night 11th Oct had the carvery very nice crackling perfect with pork roast potatoes nice shame no swede as a veg carrots were lovely tho would recommend.👍

My husband and I went here for the second time during our holiday. Our first experience was lovely, we were served by a really lovely young lady unfortunately we didn't get her name. The food was really good as recommended by a friend. Because we had such a good experience the first time we decided to go again during our holiday. Sadly the second time around was not so good. We had arrived ten minutes early ( which wasn't a problem on our previous visit) this time around the person who booked us in so to speak was really rude! We apologized for being early and in a very rude way she said " you're too early you will have to sit in the bar until it's time" it was very embarrassing as the bar was full of people. This I have to say was the second and last time we will visit. I have worked in customer service before and would never speak to customers the way this lady did, she totally ruined our evening. Hence why only two stars, at a push.

Went for a family Sunday Carvery meal which was supurbly prepared and presented by The Devon Hotel attentive staff.

Amazing carvery best I have ever eaten

It’s very 80’s but in a good way.

Staying at the hotel for a work exhibition so I came here for my evening meal. Had a nice vegetable soup to start, followed by an excellent carvery offering, turkey and beef meats, which were both very tender, the beef melting ion the mouth. A sausage was also included along with Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. The vegetables I had (roast potatoes, peas, parsnips, red cabbage, carrots) were all tasty and well cooked. Very good value and would definitely recommend.

Visited for my wife's 70th Birthday, could not fault the outstanding food and the fantastic service provided by the staff. Myself and my wife would both highly recommend ❤️

Dropped in today without booking. First time I've been here but cannot fault one part of the experience. From the outside, the building is well maintained with pretty gardening and stripes on the lawn. Inside, it's tastefully decorated, well-lit with comfortable seating (bar area). Great carvery with 4 meats plus a vegetarian option with a choice of at least 6 vegetable options. Great service by the chefs and other staff. Highly recommend.

Food and stay nice. Shame the waiter dropped the butter on the floor.then put back on the cheeseboard plate and tried to serve us. Disappointed

The carvery here is something else. Best roast dinner I’ve ever had. The other food on the menu is nothing special but it is worth visiting for the carvery alone and the service is also excellent.

Went for Carvery yesterday (19/09/21) as I'd heard such good things about it and we were not disappointed. We were seated quickly and drinks arrived quickly. The food was delicious and all the staff were lovely. We shall make this our regualr Sunday treat.

This is one of the most overpriced restaurants I've ever eaten in. All the food is boring and lacking flavour. I had a seafood starter which could have been taken straight off the shelf at Aldi. Avoid if you have active taste buds.

This is the restaurant of the Brend hotel at Matford Exeter and it’s lovely, recently refurbished during lockdown. The food is honest and good, the staff appear to enjoy their work and work hard. I have to pick up on a couple of small points: Why no long spoons with a tall latte? :) My wife is disabled and the no step entrance is up a steep ramp and once you get to the top you have to navigate tables and chairs on the path or step down onto the grass, then up back onto the path, then the level entrance is the exit and you have to mount steps again to get into the restaurant- so come on - think a bit more and provide easier options pls! The draught ‘Doom’ is great 😊

Went for a carvery to be told they can not do carveries where we choose our vegetables as it was against the law, funny that as others are doing by supplying disposable gloves so can only do plated and beef has to be well done as it is against the law to serve rare as it has to reach a certain temperature, funny that as most others do it fine. So all I can say is that it filled a gap and no more. We had pre-prepared sliced turkey, dry and hard like we used to get at school. This probably rates in the bottom 5 of all the meals I have had in my life we will not be going there again!! Unfortunately I have to leave 1 star!!!

I had lunch at Carriages with a friend today - a rare treat as I'm not very mobile these days - and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The food was expertly cooked, fresh and delicious. Waiters were friendly and efficient. A pleasant and happy experience - I'll be back to sample yet more culinary delights!

We were staying in the Devon Hotel and thought we would try the restraunt for my birthday meal. We were not disappointed! The staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was first class. Prices were reasonable for the type of restraunt it is. The decor is very nice and it holds a good atmosphere. Presentation of the food is really good too. Top Marks!
