The place where Princess Diana used to come often has her name on the stairs ~~ It's famous so it's a good idea to make a reservation. The food was so delicious that I plan to come again next time ^^ The seats are narrowly spaced, so there is not much space between tables next to each other. ^^ It comes down to the taste.

Why optional tips could be considered as necessary? How could your waiter told us to have MC Donalds, just because we wanted to remove the tips? The plates were not clean enough and one of my friends told them to change it. They cleared the table as we still were sitting there. The attitude they show us are not friendly but rude and racist!!!!!

Main server kicked us outside and LOCKED THE DOOR on us because an old hag was complaining to him about someone ELSE walking in and out of the front door and saying it was making her “cold”. Absolutely cannot believe they LOCKED us out when we weren’t even the ones causing an issue. Will NEVER give my money to this place ever again. TERRIBLE manners. TERRIBLE experience. TERRIBLE establishment.

Nice friendly service from staff. I ordered the famous seafood tomato pasta, same as my visit three years before, but feel like it’s not as good as it was. The sauce was good but the pasta was so soft, not chewy at all. I mentioned this to the waiter and he said it was normal to fully cook this kind of pasta, unless I mention I would like it to be al dente when ordering. Not sure if it’s normal but I’ve never heard this in any Italian restaurant before.

Staff make you feel that you'r having a dinner at grandmom's home. The pizza sourdough is amazing. Only thing is there is too much noise. I never get how people scream while they are in a restaurant. Really they are screaming. It's rude.

As (somewhat distant) Supporters of Arsenal FC, we're fortunate to be able to get to London twice a year for Matches, and for a very long time, "Da Mario" has consistently been one of our regular eating spots. And so, on the eve of our December Match vs Manchester United (we won, by the way) we were back again for Dinner, (having had a little bit of a struggle with their recently changed Booking system). Happily, we secured a good Table on ground-level, and were extremely competently looked after by our Waiter, Mauro (from Sardinia), who proved to be a highly entertaining character ! For "Eats" we each had a Pizza : the familiar "4 Seasons" for me & a "Chorizo Special" for my Wife, followed by one (generous) portion of a flavoursome Tiramisu for her + a tasty Espresso for me. All were excellent, as was the Bottle of "Gavi" which - not for the first time here - we also enjoyed. Our thanks to the warmly welcoming Restaurant Manager, to Mauro & to all the "Da Mario" staff who contributed to our highly-enjoyable repeat visit here. We hope to be back again in March 2025....

An absolute institution if going to The Albert Hall (to be fair, it’s impressive anytime). It’s a bit chaotic when you arrive and you just have to keep your fingers crossed that you have a reservation. You don’t get much of a choice of tables, ours was fine if a little cramped, we were upstairs which for us is always a preference. Our food was very good, we shared prosciutto and tricolour salad to start, absolutely delicious and a hearty portion for two. Our main courses were just as good: pappardelle with a rich ragu sauce and perfectly cooked sea-bass, very tasty indeed. Great restaurant, great food and good service, for us a pre event Albert Hall must. Highly recommended.

Food is authentic. High quality Italian dishes. It is two floors. If you see top floor completely full ask if they have space available downstairs. They have a nice room in the basement floor.

Busy even on a Wednesday, so booked ahead on their app for early table 5.30pm. Off to RAH later. Warm welcome, decent table (all quite small). Steven was our host/waiter. Rapid-fire chat, all smiles and brimming with pride at the history and quality of his eatery. They see an occasional celeb for sure! Plenty of menu options and we had 2 large g&t to kick off, buffalo mozzarella & green salad and an octopus/prawn salad to start. The octopus salad was generous and delicious. Loved it. Mrs raved about hers. Then seafood risotto and a pizza. Again, good size and proper, proper tasty. Shared a tiramisu. Boozy espresso coffees to finish. Place was rammed by time we left. Superb, efficient service and top quality authentic food. Left with very happy well-filled tummies. Will be back as so much more to try! Everything £110 with 12.5% tip. Great value, highly recommended restaurant just around corner from RAH. Thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Had a great lunch here after visiting the V & A. It had been recommended to me and it certainly lived up to expectations. The staff were friendly and jolly - the food delicious and the glasses of wine super generous. Such good value for central London and I will return for more of the delicious food and great hospitality.

Very busy restaurant! Had a booking but waited in the line for about 15minutes I am not sure if I was supposed to go straight in as it wasn’t clear. Food was great. Loved the aubergine lasagna and I am not a big aubergine fan. I can’t wait to return.

Took a while to seat us upstairs . Pizza has shrunk in size compare to last year and price gone up. Quality not the same . Why is it that when you get famous , you take it for granted and lower quality ?

I recently visited Da Mario, located at 15 Gloucester Road, Kensington, London SW7 4PP, just a short walk from Gloucester Road Tube station. This charming Italian restaurant is known for its traditional dishes and warm atmosphere, though experiences can vary depending on where you’re seated. I had the spaghettini alle vongole (£19.90), which was excellent. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the clams were fresh and flavourful. The light garlic and white wine sauce was well-balanced, showcasing the authenticity of traditional Italian cooking. My friend chose the spaghettini sapore di mare (£19.90), a seafood dish with squid, baby prawns, mussels, octopus, king prawns, and a cherry tomato sauce with a touch of garlic and fresh parsley. It was beautifully prepared with vibrant flavours and fresh ingredients. The dish seemed to be very popular, as we noticed many other diners enjoying it as well. For dessert, we both had the tiramisu (£13.80). It was alcohol-free, light, and airy, with a lovely creamy texture. While delicious, we both agreed it could have used a stronger coffee flavour and more biscuit layers to make it feel more authentic. The service was quick, but we felt somewhat rushed out, which detracted from the relaxed dining experience we were expecting. Additionally, a service charge was added to the bill, which is something to consider. I’d also recommend booking a table on the lower floor, as the street-level dining area felt a bit kitschy and lacked atmosphere. The lower floor is much cosier and ideal for a more enjoyable meal. Overall, despite some minor service and atmosphere issues, the food quality makes Da Mario worth a visit. Be sure to request a table downstairs and savour the authentic Italian flavours this charming Kensington spot has to offer!

The food is very good. The service as well very good. The waiter very tocative. The place is very small and crowded. We were 6 people in a table against the wall. We couldn't move.

I love the food here. Came after lunch during a cold rainy day just to have a wholesome seafood soup and red wine. Do try the Fantasia de Mare!!! And they are very generous with the wine. Lunch was so satisfying!

I was looking for a real Italian cuisine place and I must admit I found it!! Small but very welcoming restaurant. I ate a first course (Sicilian fusilli) and it was really excellent! Perfect sauce and you can feel the chef's hand. Excellent and professional staff to say the least. I will definitely go back.

Been a couple of times - alway well looked after. The ambiance is great, and the service sublime. But the food lets id down just a littly. Still recommended!

wow. the last time i came here was back in 2017 and it’s safe to say that the standard has not changed. not just that, the service was exceptional. food was tantalising and it provided an exceptional atmosphere for my family and i to catch up. loved their garlic bread! squid ink pasta and ragu were both amazing as well. i think the the pizza was alright, not mind-blowing. overall, would i come back again? def

We arrived promptly for our reservation and waited outside to be seated, as instructed by a sign at the door. Multiple staff members looked at us through the glass window but did not engage with us. There were many empty tables inside and no one else waiting outside, so it’s not like it was too busy for us, we were simply being ignored. After a while, I opened the door to get the attention of someone, only to be literally shooed away by a member of staff. If it weren’t for the no-show fee, we would’ve left at that point. After waiting outside for almost 15 minutes, we were finally invited in (and marked as late!). From the moment we sat down we felt rushed and unwelcome; the staff were not friendly at all. The food wasn’t great either. In summary, our dining experience was pretty uncomfortable and left a bad taste in the mouth. Wouldn’t recommend.

Read the reviews and was keen to try the pasta here. Having lived in Italy, I know what good pasta is. Ordered the clam pasta and was very disappointed. At least a third of the clams were empty of meat and the pasta itself tasteless and dry. This place seems to ride on its reputation as ‘Princess Diana’s favourite pizzeria’ but there are far better places to find excellent pasta.

Very very good cuisine. Magical place. A real trip to Italy. I now understand why this restaurant was one of Lady Diana's favorites in Kensington. Royal service provided by Roberto. We utilised this one for the first time last week for a pre gig meal and were quite impressed. Don’t let the slightly tacky exterior, with its neon signage, fool you. Inside lurks a very good traditional family run Italian restaurant. We both went for the sea food risotto from the daily specials menu and it was very good indeed. Couldn’t fault the service levels and the price point wasn’t bad considering you are in South Ken. We had chosen a table at street level and were glad we did because the downstairs section, although larger, is literally in the basement and we thought the ambience and the décor was better upstairs, although here obviously you get the footfall of people coming and going. Booking is pretty much essential if you want to visit on an evening when there is a concert on at the RAH, but this is easy enough through the booking link on the restaurant’s web site.

We went with a reservation as it is usually quite busy, the food was delicious and all the waiters were super friendly and attentive, several of them spoke Spanish, the service was fast. I would return without hesitation, from today a mandatory stop if you come to London!!

This was the second meal we had here, the first time was really good. The food was good and the waiter was very attentive. Not sure if going for our second time on a Sunday made a difference but we felt invisible. The food was good and came out in good time but our starter plates were not taken until our main course came. We weren't offered any parmesan. I asked for a drink 3 times before I managed to get it. We sat with the dessert menu for 20 minutes before I managed to get anyones attention. Such a shame we loved it the first time and couldn't wait to go back but were so disappointed.

Traveling alone, sometimes service is questionable, but I was treated like an honored guest. I had the Calabrian pizza, nice and spicy, perfect crust and balance of toppings. Wine list had very reasonably priced selections by the glass, and I came away warmed up and full!

I have been going here for years and it is an excellent restaurant with excellent service and always delivers. If ever I want to impress a friend who has come to London, I take them here. The staff are very warm, welcoming and polite and make you feel like an extension of their family. Love this place!

Just dined in Da Mario's. My daughter told me that her Professors recommended it to her. They weren't wrong! Best Italian meal I've ever had, absolutely outstanding. Terrific service and amazing atmosphere. No more agonising about picking a London restaurant again for me, we'll head straight there. Need to find a way of leaving room for dessert next time though. This is a lovely family run restaurant, relatively small and intimate though it’s actually double the size because the basement is also open. The artwork is very much dedicated to Princess Diana, who frequented this place. We had a seafood risotto and a linguine ragu. Both very tasty. The atmosphere was really friendly and they made a fuss of my partner for her birthday. A real gem

I have to admit we only visit this restaurant when we are going to the Royal Albert Hall. It is always a very enjoyable experience. Friendly staff, a great atmosphere, an excellent choice from the menu and great value.

Best Italian food in London. Went here twice already and both times excellent, even better the second time actually. Make sure to get reservations though they are always busy. Cannot wait for our next visit!

Update: I left this review 2 years ago. And 2 years later they left a lying response that they checked what happened that day when they don't even know which day and what time this happened. How you do one thing is how to you do everything. Rude and racist staff. They are very attentive to Italian speaking customers and left us waiting for ages to order food. The Italian customers even felt bad and told the waiter to come serve us first as we arrived way before them. Food was really average. There are much better Italian food in London. They are very stuck up for such average food. I would not visit here again.

I VOMITED ALL NIGHT!! Guys, check the sauce on the fusilli alla campagnola…. Most likely the cream source had expired…..So we risk sending people to hospital…..(this morning also diarrhea) Lack of professionalism from the Chef.

This is an excellent authentic Italian restaurant. Highly recommended - the food is really fresh and delicious. Every dish from starter to dessert is beautifully made and tastes great 👍.

This place might be popular but diners should know to go for the pizza only. The pasta dishes are questionable. The ravioli pasta was thick and overworked. The pasta with peas rigatoni with tomato sauce was just ok. The seafood pasta lacked garlic or flavor, truly bland. We did enjoy the popular garlic bread app. The caprese salad tomato was colorless with very little balsamic. Enjoyed the sliced prosciutto shipped from Italy. Excellent. Our server was sweet but the entire experience felt Mass Produced. Bought an expensive Italy wine - Barolo that lacked the typical l full body not of high quality as advertised. We really looked forward to their panna cotta which was on the website menu but absent from reality. Princess Diana and her boys enjoyed the pizza here and that's DaMarios claim to fame. Lastly, the host was not friendly and actually rude. Even though we were waiting to be seated on the steps outside for our res at 7:15- he seated a customer that just walked in behind us for a 7:30 res without deferring or acknowledging us first. Then he seated us in the far recesses of the basement in the back corner. For our last dinning experience of the trip, it was not the best to say the least.

Hector and Alecsandro were great in their service. Very Kind. And the food, besides being wonderful, came super quickly, was super hot and very well seasoned. If I could, I would give it a 10. Instead of a 5.

Very average Italian, do not get the hype. Pizza was not standard, tasted more like salad on pizza dough. Not worth a visit unless you leave near by.

Da Mario is a fantastic casual dining spot with absolutely wonderful homemade pasta and pizza. The wait staff is great and the vibe is electric. The tiramisu here is the one that my wife bases all others off of. It is perfect!

Just had a meal at this restaurant. We made reservations and we had a lovely meal. Our reservation was for 7.45pn. our starter came out the same time as our main meal. As soon as we had finished our main meal we were given our receipt. Soon after that someone came around with the card payment machine. We weren't even offered a dessert menu. When I asked about the desert menu I was told that the table was reserved for someone else! I couldn't believe it. There were people sitting in the restaurant who were there before we arrived and still sitting there, plus a few minutes before we were asked if we wanted another bottle of wine! We payed our bill and left at 9.45 and there was nobody waiting for a table on leaving. Lovely meal but let down by the staff not wanting us to have a dessert and feeling rushed to vacate our table.

Go for the pizza and tiramisu!! Super quick and efficient service (perfect for squeezing in before a concert/prom!). Slightly overwhelming decor but very lovely atmosphere. Also recommended to book at busy times.

Polite and frequently checked up on us, food was served quickly - nice place will definitely visit again. We were sitting on the ground floor opposite the bar if it helps!! Not sure what the pizza was called but had chorizo.

Food was SO yummy and very reasonable. The restaurant was very hot...so was quite uncomfortable (sat downstairs). The biggest aperol spritz...felt like a fishbowl 🤩 Unfortunately there was a very unpleasant guest sat next to us...but the staff handled it very well!

Really nice Italian near royal Albert hall. Had the seafood pasta, soo much seafood it was great. Aperol spritz perfect and delicious tiramisu. The atmosphere upstairs and on the terrace is nicer than downstairs but still good vibe and always busy. My friend had the ragu and there was so much meat. Recommend!

Absolutely blown away by this gem of a restaurant. We needed a meal before the Royal Albert Hall and found this place on Google Maps. We booked a couple of days ahead and I’m glad we did because they were full! The whole place is so charming and the service is exceptional. There are so many dishes to choose from we were spoilt for choice! The dishes we had were absolutely delicious, one of the best plates of pasta I’ve ever had in my life. Cannot wait to come back here again sometime.

Almost all of the pizzas listed as vegetarian are not actually vegetarian as they include DOP parmesan or pecorino. These cheeses traditionally contain rennet which is not suitable for vegetarians.
