We ate there on Saturday evening (full) and Sunday breakfast & evening (quite) and Monday breakfast (medium) and on all occasions the food and service were excellent. My wife wants to eat here every night or get the chefs recipes. We didn't bring our dogs but are very happy that it is dog friendly.

Honestly disappointing for us !! After reading positive reviews, we expected something special. We were celebrating my birthday mid December and our first wedding anniversary. The venue is lovely and the staff is friendly but the food and service was very disappointing. I had asked when booking if we could have the table by the fire place as we were here for a special occasion but we were sat at a table on the side near a wall, a few metres away from the main entrance door so it was drafty and a little chilly. Luckily, we were by a radiator. We were not offered drinks on arrival. No-one asked us if we wanted something to drink whilst waiting at the table. I had to get up and get the attention of a waitress... The staff was super busy and running round. We felt like we were just sat at the table and left to it really. As we had to wait quite a while before our food arrived, I asked if we could get nibbles with our aperitif, which to our surprise, was charged around £5 extra on our bill for some crisps and a few pretzels. If we had had the light bites sooner, we may not have needed those nibbles whilst waiting for the starters ? I thought light bites would arrive before our starters but they did not. Everything came together. Some of the light bites (Venison croquettes) was dry, some was half cooked like with the ray skate wing more like sushi (unfortunately not explained on the menu). We had to send it back. My starter "crispy oyster mushroom with seaweed" came as tempura mushrooms but no visible seaweed. Again, it could be more explicit on the menu or the waiter/waitress could explain it clearly when the client orders to avoid confusion. The soup was ok but got cold... We ordered light bites thinking they would arrive before the starters but we waited a long while (there was a private party of 10 or so in the next room so the kitchen would have naturally been very busy, hence the waiting time I guess) but then everything came at once: light bites and both starters so things got cold inevitably. £10 for soup... Disappointing... My side cabbage to go with my main course was stone cold - I sent it back and it came back burning hot but dry. No explanation. It was supposed to be a mix of red cabbage and sauerkraut but there was only red cabbage. Again no explanation. Our waitress said it must be mixed altogether and ran away from our table... the staff seemed not to be knowledgeable when it came to the menu. My main course was average. I left half of it. A bit too pink and undercooked to my liking but no-one checked on us to ask if everything was ok. It would be nice to see some more green vegetables on offer as sides besides brussels sprouts. And maybe some mashed potato or gratin dauphinois as an alternative to chips on the menu ? The best thing was the dessert, Passion souffle. The bill was the most expensive we've ever paid for a meal for two. Over £175. 2 bottles of water at £10 each, 1 glass of wine. 1 dessert... Very disappointing...

Our experience of Farmer, Butcher, Chef was rather mixed. Some of the dishes, such as a lamb neck main, were well thought out and delicious, while others, such as my partner's pigeon starter, were ill conceived, rather tough and very disappointing. In particular, we thought there was a lack of attention to detail for a fine dining restaurant - for example, an otherwise excellent crab starter was let down a cold and watery accompanying bisque. The wines were also very overpriced in my opinion, with our £40 bottle of white tasting less refined than most £8 supermarket purchases. We were also overcharged by £10 for this lacklustre wine but fortunately I noticed when we settled the bill. In summary, I'd say it was a bit of a curate's egg - ie good in parts - but not very good value for money and we wouldn't be tempted to go back.

This restaurant is so close to getting it right but doesn’t quite make in some areas. Could not fault the venue. It was bright and modern with a nostalgic twist. I did however feel that for a high end restaurant the staff wearing mismatched jeans and tops was perhaps going too far down the casual path. Perhaps even just having matching tops with the estates logo on would just be enough. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The clientele was very mixed which was good. Very limited choices. Only three starters and desserts. Mains were Roasts, Hake or a Vegetarian option. Two of us chose the crab starter with puffed rice. The puff rice outweighed the crab which amounted to less than a teaspoon full. It was wet and mushy. Not pleasant at all. The puffed rice element was better. The Tartare chosen by the third person was by far 100% superior. One chose the Roast Beef which looked like a huge steak but was actually sliced just stacked which didn’t present itself very elegantly Apparently it was divine and melted in the mouth. It was served very rare which might not appeal to some. The sides of roasted potatoes and cauliflower cheese were excellent. I had the Pork Loin, again three very large slices which consisted of at least 60% fat. One had to separate the beautiful flavoured pork from the copious amounts of fat. I know you need fat for flavour but when your plate is left partially covered in discarded fat it’s not pleasant. The Hake I understand was excellent. We each chose a different dessert. One being a chocolate and honeycomb bar topped with balls of raw apple. Disappointed that they weren’t melon or raspberry’s served with an apple sorbet which was very nice. My rhubarb panacotta was very tasty and looked amazing but the filling had curdled and was like eating undercooked scrambled egg. Not pleasant. The third dessert was a Tiramisu, a deconstructed tiramisu. Tasted very nice, visually not so good. The lunch was enjoyable and the little touches made referring to it being my Birthday were lovely and much appreciated. I have tried to be both fair and honest and whilst this establishment has lots to offer with other similar eateries around I will not be recommending or revisiting.

After being rejected at the Goodwood Bar and Grill based on my appearance, I faced the same discriminatory treatment at the Farmer Butcher Chef Restaurant and Bar. I'm very sad to have to write this however, our starter of cold garlic soup wasn't appealing, the wrong order was then brought to our table for mains, my au jus on my main was the same as my cold soup starter, no cutlery given, when we asked for cutlery it took about five minuets to obtain a fork, on asking for the second time! We didn't require dessert but the bill was brought to our table albeit we would have had coffee afterwards and this was by the manager, she made our decision it was time to leave clearly!!. When we spoke to the receptionist at the front of the hotel we had no help, just a chap bewildered who said "I'll go and talk with the manager" (the lady who made us feel so unwelcome with the bill), he came back to say "We're sorry about that" and that was it, very disappointing for a Saturday evening out and over £150 spent. I've heard a horror story since also from someone else who dined here. They left without having supper as so much went wrong. Very disappointing compared to The Kennels!

I was taken for lunch here for a surprise for my birthday - we were a party of 6. We had all travelled from far and wide (73 mile round trip for some). When we pulled into the car park my expectations were high but I/we were sadly disappointed. My main course roast lamb was extremely rare, almost raw, very fatty and was quite tough to cut. I ended up giving virtually all my meat to our dog. The roast potatoes did not taste fresh, they tasted like they had been cooked previously and then reheated in the microwave. One of our party did note that another table sent their food back. I didn’t want to cause a fuss on the day as it was a surprise birthday lunch for me, booked by my family. Speaking to others in our party later that day I found they too were disappointed but hadn’t liked to cause a fuss. We ate our food so as not to cause offence to our host plus we were all starving. I was expecting something exceptional for the price but I have had a better roast for half the cost at our local pub (with no 73 mile round round trip) No problems regarding the service Very disappointing.

Poor wheelchair access; you have to use the hotel entrance and not follow the restaurant signs. Headwaiter was very slow to offer drinks, and slow to take food order; other staff ignored our table. No wine list; we had to ask for it. More to follow when the food arrives. We ordered Harvey’ BC sherry from the menu, something else was served. When we queried it, he admitted it wasn’t what we ordered but something else, he wasn’t sure what! I had the Mackerel starter; very good, the beef main was pulled beef in a mould with tiny pieces of potato. Quite tasty. Chips are large and not to my taste. Summer greens, well. Dessert was our birthday cake. After lunch coffees and teas OK but had to ask for milk! Overall the food was spoilt by the service. The waiters were young people ( 6th formers?) ( showing my age) doing the job for pocket money; little training or commitment. It’s a shame because it does the Goodwood brand no favours.

Usually when we come to Farmer butcher chef the food is outstanding. But on this occasion our Sunday lunch was terrible I would rather eat at Toby carvery than the food I got today. The starters where nice and so where the bar snacks but the roasts almost in edible and the Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes were disgraceful (time to replace the new chef). I have to say the service like always was fantastic and they could not have done more. They did after us raising these points deduct £10 per meal but still not worth the money we paid. I will not be going back till there is a new chef in the kitchen. Come on Lord March you can do better than this.

Having enjoyed many FBC’s Sunday Lunches over several years we were extremely disappointed with their culinary efforts last weekend. The service was good overall; the food definitely not! No starters chosen just four roasts - 3 beef, 1 pork. The beef was stringy, thinly sliced and tasteless. The roast potatoes were ‘last week’s’ rehashed - barely warmed through, very dense and dry with a tough outer shell but not crisp. The Yorkshire puddings were extremely thin and dry like they were overcooked from frozen. The cabbage was again overcooked and mostly stalk. Unlike the previous reviewer of Mother’s Day, (a month ago) we did quietly bring it to the attention of our waitress who did say later that she had informed the manager. We remained at the table for a while whilst finishing our wine however nobody came to engage with us except the waitress when we paid our bill. With many excellent Sunday Lunch venues in the area we will no longer be recommending FBC and unlike Arnie’s Teminator - we will not be back!

This was our second visit and as our first was a good one decided to take our parents for Mother’s Day Sunday lunch. On arrival the restaurant was busy unlike our first so was good to see it like that, this was probably the only good thing yesterday. Were greeted and seated and handed menus, whilst looking through we were quite surprised to see just 3 starters on offer, one being soup then a fish and a beef tartare, not great if I’m honest. After about 15 minutes our drink orders were taken, the wine was quite prompt but the draft drinks seemed to take an age to arrive. Food orders were taken and the starters arrived, the soup was ok but not very warm at all, the mackerel starters were just shocking, both members of our party that ordered this said how minute it was which we could all see and it was pretty tasteless and bland, also they found it very difficult to cut the meat away from the skin as it just turned to mush, there was a very very small amount of avocado purée underneath, definitely not worth the cost as after 4 mouthfuls was finished. We all ordered the Sunday roasts of beef, lamb and pork, as mentioned we had been for Sunday lunch before and couldn’t fault it, this time however we were left in shock and embarrassed as we had told our families how good it was. The pork resembled a chop which was over cooked and the lamb and beef were quite chewy and definitely didn’t have the flavour we expected. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire were most definitely cooked the day (if not two) before and just re warmed, yes we understand this is needed on a busy Mother’s Day but they were all solid and on a couple of occasions we had food flying as it was cut into. We were all most dissatisfied and disappointed Needless to say we didn’t stay for desert. Will most certainly not be returning and would not recommend.

Went yesterday with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. I don’t mind paying £72 a head for 2 courses and drinks if I get fed well and don’t leave a restaurant still hungry. I understand establishments need to find ways of reducing costs but I don’t think charging nearly £10 for an “onion tart” starter and then serving half a tart is fair. It was not that big to start with. Not only did it look ridiculous on the plate it was so obvious that they are either serving the other half to another customer or using it to feed the staff. When I quizzed the server she did go and ask but returned saying “chef says that’s how we serve it”. Could be why, apart from our table of 8, there was just one other table of 3 diners in the room. Two friends had plaice which was a tiny piece about 3 inches long. Won’t be going back any time soon.

We live in the local area and had always thought of Goodwood as a luxury place to go but had never been. For our first visit we booked in for Sunday lunch and a night in the hotel. We arrived in pouring rain and I was asked if I wanted them to hang my coat up for me, which i agreed to. The food was amazing and both my husband and myself couldn’t fault it, in face we were planning our return visit before we had even left!! Unfortunately when we did go to leave and I went to get my coat, it wasn’t there. My coat wasn’t hugely expensive but both it and the gloves in the pockets were gifts so had sentimental value to me. There was a similar but a cheaper and different size coat still there. I spoke to a young member of staff who didn’t really know what to say or do, no problem , I told her we were checking in to the hotel so if someone was to realise their mistake and bring it back that’s where I was. As we were checking in to the hotel a lady who might have been a team leader in the restaurant, walked past us, she mentioned that she had been told my coat was missing and that they would try and ring people who had lunch reservations to see if they could locate it, she’d let me know the outcome. I never heard anything back from anyone. When checking out I asked the lady on reception if they had any luck locating my coat and she didn’t know what I was talking about and said there was nothing on the system about my coat missing but would try and find out when the restaurant staff were back in. I left with no coat (i wasn’t taking the remaining coat as it was the wrong size, inferior quality obviously belonged to a smoker and wasn’t mine!) Two days later when I still hadn’t heard anything, I emailed Goodwood Hotel, who replied with a message saying we believe someone was going to try to contact the lunchtime reservations, we will let you know. (Exactly what I’d already been told) I know it’s my responsibility for leaving my coat, and I don’t blame the restaurant or hotel for the fact one of their guests took it, but they offered to take my coat and hang it up then couldn’t have cared any less about the fact it had gone missing. If someone had made contact with me to say they couldn’t locate it or it hadn’t been returned, it would have made a difference in my opinion of the hotel/restaurant but I feel there customer service skills are severely lacking. This has put a real dampener on our view of the Goodwood hotel and the Farmer, Butcher, Chef restaurant and unfortunately we wouldn’t recommend or return.

I chose Sea Bream which arrived with no sauce and the extra chips were fat soaked an over done. The meat on offer was cheaper cuts. In addition my son had to return his beer because it was 'sour', he then requested a bottled beer. Not on for the price! However the service was very good but didn't redeem food. The restaurant has been beautifully decorated , there was a real log fire burning , and there was a newly decorated Christmas Tree in the entrance hall . There are lots of nice touches in the restaurant such as items on display from the motor racing circuit , the farm and The Goodwood Estate . As an added bonus The Duke of Richmond happened to be there , he came over to our table for a lovely chat with us which was very nice indeed , very good of him and most unexpected ! There is ample secure safe and free parking right outside the restaurant in the Goodwood Hotel car park , and we were able to park immediately outside and walk just the few yards to the entrance . Perfect for those who wish to arrive in their Ferrari’s , Porsches and other exotic Sportscars as befitting Goodwood ! 👍🇬🇧🏁

Very attractive dining room. Helpful, friendly staff. Intriguing menu - we all loved the pork sharing starter - especially the giant puffball crackling. Halibut much praised. The rhubarb-and-custard Baked Alaska was hilariously delicious. An excellent evening and such a change from the usual “modern British” menu offerings.

I regret that FBC is not up to it's earlier standard. We have been for several lunches over the years but the last was a disappointment. Service fine but food too crude whereas in past they had a number of light seasonal dishes.

We came here for my other halves Birthday on a Friday night. The restaurant was unusually quiet with us being the only table in there between 7:30-8:30. The food and cocktails were perfect. Each course was faultless with intricate flavours and textures. Compliments to the Chefs! The only downside was perhaps the service. It was quick and prompt which was great just lacked the care you would expect especially as it was quiet. No one really spoke or asked us about our experience or how our food was and additionally, I had made a note regarding a special birthday and I maybe had expectations that the Team may of said Happy Birthday at the least. I’m not against service charge at all, we are extremely generous in hindsight but I thought for £20 service charge It maybe was abit lack lustre. All being said we will return in the future.

What an amazing place. 1st time there with my wife on her birthday, and I would recommend anyone playing a visit when you’re near Chichester. Rupert aka Joe (Johannesburg) made us welcome. He was lovely to speak too and his service was why I posted this review. Good luck in the future Joe, keep the dream alive.

Our second visit here - always a worry that it won’t live up to the first impression we had last summer. It was every bit as good. The service is really the very best I have ever experienced - in that it is subtle, friendly, informal yet exquisite. It is faultless. Rosie our host was charming and made our evening just perfect. The food is just so good. I forgive the hefty prices because when you eat the food you realise how reasonable it actually is. Sharing dishes are simply outstanding. Even my mug of coffee was delish. Did I mention the divine cocktails? Try The Eclipse. Wow. See you again!

A disappointing experience. The bar and restaurant areas are attractive, but thereafter the expectations were not met. Menu choices are unimaginative and what should have been their strength: meat reared on the estate, is really only available as expensive dishes for sharing with each offering having a range of meat products. If you just want a really good steak you can’t order it. The staff were pleasant, but there was a lack of personal interaction with the customers the service was a bit on the robotic side.

Very disappointing . Went for Sunday lunch yesterday, the 4 /12/2 my parents used their Xmas gift voucher, My parents had lamb, myself beef. All the dinners came out lukewarm, did mention to waitress that food wasn’t hot( not her fault) she did apologise. She was lovely by the way. I had to order extra gravy to warm it up! Seasonal veg , it said, one carrot, bit of cauliflower cheese, 3 potatoes. My beef had on every slice a grissle . We are locals and have had better from local pubs/ restaurants. For £25 per head, you would expect better.

Recent experience at this cafe was not very good, kids food is very overpriced for what you get and not very nice the ham was extremely salty, too much margarine very overpowering and only the equivalent of half a sandwich is what you get for £6.95 this was very disappointing and not child friendly. Crispins club sandwich was very cold as if it was pulled straight from a fridge and the drinks service was very average again overpriced. All in all bad experience, as a local resident I won't be returning. As I can't reply to a response from my review I have added it on here. Thank you crispins for your reply, I fully disagree with my review being unfair as this was the experience I had when visiting lately and this is my own personal opinion on the service and food i received, id say it is very unfair you stating i gave an unfair review, im sorry it couldn't be a positive one I am just being fully honest! Reviews are there to add experiences! I did refer to the menu when I visited before placing my order and it will be added with this review and as you can see it doesn't actually state the chicken and egg being cold and you so kindly outlined it did state! if anything it stated the chicken being grilled wihich would incline it being freshly cooked under a grill! Therefore i would probably ask you to review your menu instead of assuming I hadn't as a customer already done so myself before ordering.

Visited here for afternoon tea. Welcome was ok, but then we waited for a while to see if there was a free table. Bizarrely no one else was in the cafe and the upstairs service where we were seated was almost unfriendly and you felt you were in the way. When we asked for a spoon for our tea we were greeted with a huff and puff… Gets good reviews elsewhere, but sadly not from us..
