I absolutely love the cheese gozleme and cheesecake at this place. The cheese gozleme is made with warm, flaky pastry and melted cheese that's incredibly tasty. It's irresistible! Their cheesecake is a delightful treat, with a creamy texture and just the right amount of sweetness. If you're a fan of cheese, you definitely need to try these amazing dishes.

We were staying in Dalston and were looking for a good place to enjoy a good "Fish & Chips Meal" & we stumbled upon this restaurant, which happened to be a short walk away from our place. Though the place did not boast of a very high rating, there was something about this family run restaurant that was welcoming. The decor was simple but comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered Tempura Shrimps, fried Cod with chips and Spinach and cheese gozleme, which was recommended by our host. Each item was delicious and the portions were hearty! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and highly recommend this eatery to other Tripadvisor members!

I have been to many fish and chip restaurants and hands down this is the best. Chips were crispy outside and fluffy within the Haddock batter was beautifully thin and crispy and the fish you couldn't get any fresher if you went to Billingsgate. We enjoyed 2 gorgeous cold beers too. The servers were attentive and exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. I mentioned I liked the hand wipes given after the meal and on our way out I was given several complimentary. Don't waste any time, get yourself down there sharpish. Perfection!

A great local fish restaurant. We’ve been a few times and must admit to having either the cod or the haddock each time...but that’s because they were so good. We had a nice fresh salad, chips and mushy peas with the fish. Indifferent and apathetic service. I was made to wait 20 minutes while other customers came in and were served after being told there was "no fish left", while I was for all intents and purposes ignored, with no reasonable explanation being made for why I had to wait. I was also there as the server loudly engaged in a discussion with someone I assume was a regular customer about how the chips were “not their usual quality today.” Ultimately, I was told there was no fish or battered sausages and that I would have to accept a ‘Jumbo Sausage’ - one of two that had been sitting there, already cooked, since I walked into the store 20 minutes ago. The sausage was cold and the portion of chips were meagre. The server was exceedingly reluctant and it was really uncomfortable experience.

First impressions of the décor - so modern, so relaxing! The menu is very extensive for a fish and chip restaurant. Had a selection of starters – calamari, scampi, whitebait, fishcake – these were all nice and crisp. I went for the sea bass which was grilled beautifully – the skin was crisp and the fish tasted extremely fresh, not to mention the size - it was biggest whole sea bass I’ve ever been served. The cod was a good size, and not too greasy. You have to try their curry sauce - this had a good kick to it! Thought I was full but I just had to get a dessert, and I went for the elderflower and strawberry cheesecake - let’s just say I’m so glad I didn’t share this as it was wonderfully light, not too sweet, and rounded off the meal just perfectly. Oh and I can’t forget about the COCKTAILS! These looked and tasted amazing. Thank you to Jas and the team at Faulkners for looking after us and for the delicious food!

Came here the other day out of nostalgia. Twenty years ago this place had the best fish and chips. Today the fish and chips are below average and the whole experience was a huge disappointment. Asked for a glass of wine and when it came it tasted like vinegar and at least five days old. The waitress and chef had an argument about the wine right in front of us! Chef came over and said he doesn't drink and couldn't comment on the taste of the wine but assured that it was only one day old. I'm a regular wine drinker without sounding like an alcoholic but that wine was not just one day old. Trust me. The restaurant was empty the whole time we were there. The tables were dirty and the bathroom was a horror scene. It was like a ghost town. Sometimes it's best not to go back to old haunts.

I think it was In the early 1980's this fish and chip shop opened. A single shop unit serving some of the finest fish and chips you could find anywhere with queues forming outside. After a couple of years it was obvious it outgrew it's premises and moved to it's present location (about 15-20 shops along). Building up it's reputation far and wide with it's excellent quality fish. At least two national newspaper sent their food critics to review it ( which their articles praised it ). History lesson over !Sadly today after at least two changes of ownership the quality has dropped and the queues have disappeared. I visited last week at about 13.30 and had to shout out to get attention of staff to serve me as there was no one about to be seen, I only had a portion of chips but I wish I hadn't bothered they were lukewarm and obviously been cooked for quite a while. Previously working late and visited for cod and chips as none were ready it was cooked fresh. Unfortunately the fish was again swimming not in the sea but in oil. The quality, size of portion and the cost has put me off going in there again. As I wrote at top of this review its a shadow of former self.

At 2.10 in the afternoon not having any lunch I went to get some chips UNFORTUNATELY. I think they must have been cooked at 12 o'clock LAST NIGHT. They were horrible I also had a sausage in batter which was just and I do mean just edible only because I got a tomato ketchup. On top of which I was asked for £4.70 !!!! I did question this as the menu displayed £1.60 for chips 25p for ketchup but the sausage price wasn't on there, which would have made it £2.85 rather expensive. In the end I paid £3.35 (the correct price) Needless to say I will not be returning here, I would rather go hungry and give money to charity.I remember when it first opened many years ago when it was my number one favourite fish and chip shop. I have lived across the road from this fish and chip shop since 1983. In its heyday, cabbies would rank up outside all Friday night as it was by far the best fish and chips in London. The old owners sold up and we are now left with yet another lot of new owners and all I can say is... enough is enough. You get COLD CHIPS, SLIM FILLETS OF FISH AND NO SERVICE. I have tried many times to give them "one more chance" well no more.Do not waste your time going here. You will be overcharged for a small handful of cold chips and a small sliver of fish.It is such a shame as there are few good chippies left in London and sadly the new owners have no idea how to run a traditional fish and chip shop. It is all about quality potatoes, quality oil and quality fish. If you get this right you will again have queues going around the block.Shame, shame, shame....:(

Those poor nervous people you have working there are trying the best they can, but they don't have the skills to do the job. Train them or replace them while you still have a business. Faulkners was always a place for a bit of a treat. A posh chippy, expensive but you could always justify it for the quality of the food. Hadn't been for a while and decided to sit in the restaurant. It has definitely seen better days. Still clean and tidy but just a little bit tired. Haddock and chips at £10 is pretty steep as is £3 for a half pint sized bottle of lager from a range of three. The fish was fantastic, a good size in a light crisp batter but the chips didn't do it for me. They were piping hot but tasted a bit stale. The outside wasn't crispy enough but they were a little bit hard on the bite and not the biggest portion size. There was no veg or salad served with the fish which would have been nice. The problem for the restaurant is at that price it is competing with a lot of the gentrified pubs nearby where fish and chips is a staple of most menus and they just feel like nicer places to visit. The fish today was great, the service fine but everything else fell just a little bit short.

You can just tell by walking past that Faulkners once had a heyday. Big matching balcony shades to 3 levels and large restaurant area with fish tank. It looks kind of nice in an 80s way but based on my last three visits its been getting progressively worse, I love fish and chips and I want it to be good, but it just isn't. Chips taste like cardboard, fish average at best and several times the food has obviously been sitting around a while or is overcooked.Just seems like zero attention to detail. Must surely be in the running for getting converted, hoxton-style, to some kind of Spanish/Asian fusion pop-up.

It is really hard to put into words just how far this restaurant has fallen from its lofty position as one of the most celebrated fish and chip restaurants in London. After a sudden closure earlier in 2013, the restaurant re-opened a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I have lived in Hackney for 30 years and Faulkners, despite a few ups and downs over the years, managed to retain its East End charm and, importantly, the straightforward quality of its daily fish. One of my parents' favourite outings was a Friday or Saturday lunch on every visit.Where to start? Too slow. One waitress on Friday night (which is "fish" night for many Londoners). Wait at the table. Offered drinks. Most of the white wines (what you drink with fish) warm except the most expensive ones because they'd forgotten to stock the fridge. To be fair to our charming waitress, the wine we did order came with a well filled ice bucket and the requested glass of ice. Order prawns and avocado for starter. No avocado.Order 2 x cod and chips and 1 x haddock and chips. Delivered 40 mins later. 2 x haddock and chips and 1 x cod and chips - these are the 2 basic fish in fish and chips: you mostly order one or the other. Cause of cock-up? Kitchen prioritising long take-away cue and not being bothered with the restaurant. Once the 2 cod and chips rectified appalled to find wholly uncooked fish inside. In the meantime our neighbouring Germans, experiencing their authentic English fish and chips, tuck in to their mussels starter whilst musing over the empty two-foot tall peppermill on their table. "Where are we?" they ask. "Between Dalston and Shoreditch" our patient waitress replies. "Ah, No Man's Land" our Germans visitors quip. Highlight of the evening. This all takes place against the background of two disabled visitors each taking 20 minutes to enter through the newly renovated foyer with steps and one walk out by a couple too traumatised to bother. We leave without eating, apologising to our embarrassed waitress (1 star service does not reflect on her but the management determined to destroy the reputation of this restaurant), whose fault this wasn't.Fawlty Towers meets Mel Brooks meets Nightmare on Elm Street. "Disaster" doesn't really do this justice.Faulkners the London institution RIP. Avoid like the plague...Unless you are a German Fawlty Towers fan.Unbelievable.

I'd heard amazing things about this restaurant and decided to walk all the way from Liverpool St to here! Beware, you are looking at a good 35-40 minute walk. The lady who runs the restaurant side had called in sick and there was a poor little Indian lad, rushed off his feet trying to balance the takeaway side of the restaurant, along with the restaurant itself. Don't get me wrong, it was not busy at all but I found the food very average. Hard chips, ok fish and terrible wine. So bad I had to have one glass and ask him to put it away! His wine delivery was due in the evening (thank God for the evening guests). Maybe I have to try it in the evening for a true reflection of the Faulkner's experience. Based on my lunch time experience, there is a fish and chips shop behind Liverpool Street that is better than this. Sorry guys.

The main menu had an impressive list of available fish including skate, rock salmon and plaice. The restaurant has a take-away attached for those not wanting to sit down. The place had a nice feel to it and certainly we shall back - if only for me to try the skate is which is one of my favourites.

I don't know how or why anyone thinks this is the way forward - I have eaten in many a place around London, and Dalston in particular. And, no matter how hungry or how big the craving for fish, I have always refused to hand over my money to this glorified chippy , just because everyone believes that it's good and they go following the herd. Open up your eyes, wake up! A tenner for fish and chips? Take away? You've been had , brother, sister..... You've been had. Especially in a district which, although trendy, IS STILL UGLY.... The cook immediately offered to cook my fish in a matzo meal batter--perfect! My fish was huge, crispy, and delicious, and same for my friend's regularly breaded fish. Also, the french fries ("chips") were tasty, and the large serving we shared was more than we could eat together! This is not high-class chow, but it is fantastic, classic British fish and chips.

Fish and chips should be a humble meal and humbly priced but for some reason we were charged way over the odds for a plate of overcooked defrosted fish that tasted like hardened pap of appalling quality- and the chips were crap as well. Sorry but the owners should be ashamed of the low standards applied throughout the dining experience here. I can only add that dining here left the distinct impression that the proprietor was getting as much money in from as little effort as possible, for as long as possible- hopefully this won't be much longer for all their unwary future customers sakes. My daughter had her 12th birthday party in the karaoke den and it was wonderful! I wasn't sure they'd allow a kid's party but they were fine as it was early. The karaoke den is a great sound-proofed room with a big screen and two microphones. The were only 12 in my party but the room can hold up to 20, I imagine it would get quite hot and stuffy in there though. We had a the room booked for four hours (long!) with food served on the floor below. Throughly recommend the korean chicken wings! The person that made the party run smoothly was a lovely and super efficient lady called Alex. She was on hand straight away to talk the girls through using the system, she organised the drink and food for us and was always available to answer questions and nothing was too much bother, so thank you very much Alex! ¿Cuándo fui por última vez? Semanal.
