Fish and Chips at 149 in Richmondshire

This was my first visit. The shop is very well maintained and welcoming. The staff were very friendly, professional and made us feel welcome. With the food and drinks ordered we didn’t have to wait too long before it arrived. It was all very well presented and looked delicious. It tasted even better. The batter on the fish was fried all the way through leaving the haddock cooked to perfection. The chips were crisp and well drained of grease and the portion size was good. It is a welcoming change to find a fish shop serving quality food as good as this. Well done to Sophie and her team. You are a credit to 149.

Extremely friendly staff, and the food is always 10/10. Would highly recommend. The Dine in area is always kept clean, and when I’ve ordered takeaway it’s always been served quickly, even when they are busy. 5 star!!

Worst fish and chips we ever had. Rock hard and thin fish that was mainly just crispy batter and SWIMMING in grease. Chips tasted of absolutely nothing. The cook on that day spent more time laughing and joking with customers than paying attention to the food. We were surprised to see such a lack of professionalism. We did our best on the food but it was vile, so we binned the lot and we never returned.

Proper chippy doing it right, food is all fresh and not covered in grease like most chippys & the batter is perfectly cooked. Tad expensive compared to others but you’re paying for quality & that’s exactly what you get. Will definitely be returning if I’m back down these ways 👍 11/10

Was passing and grabbed some dinner, Great food, the fish was lush and the batter was crispy and perfect. A little more than I am Used to paying, but I will definitely use again. The young lady that served us was very professional and I think I heard the manager say she had only been there a few shifts.

There is no doubt that Fish & Chips 149 at Catterick Garrison is the best chippie for miles. Everything freshly fried and yet the wait for your food doesn’t seem long and is well worth it. Staff are great, friendly and cheerful. 5* every time 😀

Fish is always very fresh and a good sized portion. A big favourite of mine is also the chicken bites. Highly recommended.

The fish and chips were outstanding, well worth the drive from Essex! This is my go to without a doubt when I am in the area. Portion size was good! My only negative is there isn’t one in Essex!! Delicious

The place looks nice and the staff are friendly but the food was terrible - maybe I've just got them on a bad day but the chips were over cooked or re-heated. It was a good portion size but pointless because the chips were unbareable to eat, the curry sauce was clumpy and tasteless the sausage was the best part it was ok.

Came in on Thursday night, the food we had was delicious and the service we received was amazing! will be coming again

Hubby and I called in for takeaway ordered plaice and large haddock chips and mushy peas very tasty but the plaice was disappointing for the price have had same meal at barney shop which was far better size plaice. Hubby enjoyed his haddock 👍

My husband and I are extremely fussy about fish and chips- well let’s face it we all like our batter one way or another, chips another and it’s not a cheap meal nowadays- I persuaded him to try 149 last night and WOW, it’s got 10/10 from both of us, crispy batter down to the last mouthful, the fish was juicy and very tasty, perfect chips , and unlike a lot of others, there was no river of fat left on the plate Would highly recommend The staff were lovely too, clean place Well done We’ll be back

I don't normally leave reviews, but was handed a google review card. So here we are. When Catterick 149 opened some years ago the quality was incredible. A few years later the standards have dropped massively. 3 consecutive times now the chips have been massively underdone. I know, why do I keep going back right? Because it was so good before! Just as good as Trenchers in Whitby (if you've ever been.) I can only assume the chef's standards have dropped or there is lack of training from higher up. Again...because it was so good - I'll give it one more go. But if it happens again, I won't be back.

Visiting my parents who brought me here for dinner and I was not disappointed, the fish and chips with mushy peas was delicious and the service was great, staff were really friendly and helpful, and the place was nip and clean. In fact it was so nice I brought my daughter and mam the next day. Will definitely be eating here again the next time I visit.

Went there and got the fish and chips which I think were appropriately priced, a bit more expensive however I think this is around the standard price these days. The fish was amazing and the chips were great. Appropriately seasoned, curry sauce was amazing. Went at lunch time and experienced a fast turnaround from the order being taken to the food being served (takeaway)

Partner and I took our daughter out for a bite to eat for lunch, thank you to the fryer Brian for some hella good grub and thanks to Den for being awesome!! Great staff!!

Love the battered sausage and curry sauce. Decent air-conditioning for when it's warm and some heaters for when it's cold. No reason for the weather to stop us lol

Had a fish and large chips from here, and all i can say is for the price you pay, the portion sizes are atrocious, the "large" chips was a small so i'd hate to see what their small chips portion is, i can't say i'd ever go here again for fish and chips.

Food is amazing, service is friendly and efficient and the wait before you food is quick. I normally don’t eat inside the restaurant although it is always clean and full of people enjoying their food. My dad and I love coming here for a quick lunch.

Ate in and had the gluten free option and they were beautiful. Also they do decaf tea which was also lovely. The staff are amazing and very helpful. At just over £10 for a pensioner it was a very good deal. Will definitely be back.

Pound for pound worst fish and chips ive had Portion sizes poor and prices extortionate! £20 for fish and chips and we even shared a chips because we got a large (smaller than a normal elsewhere ive been)

Best fish and chips in North Yorkshire! We have tried so many in the area but they never compare to 149. So crispy and tasty, not greasy or soggy. And always so so fresh!!! (Shout out to Brian because if he’s the fryer you know it’s gonna be amazing) They will get your order out as quick as they can, the staff are super nice and efficient. 100% recommend❤️
