After a long walk down Hampstead Heath needed a pick me up and a coffee. I had not been at a Gail's bakery before so tried their latte which was nice. My daughter had a hot chocolate piping and I'm told it was good. Nice location and staff were nice enough.

Same product has gone up at least 3 times in the last six months. Excruciating prices. I hope more people start supporting small businesses and not the greedy chain like Gail’s.

Had a very nice avocado and chickpea roll from here and the tea was good however, the staff are a bit all over the place. My friend ordered a scone and they didn't even bother to serve it with jam and cream- we had to go back to the counter to ask- should be a standard.

Trust Gail's for excellent cream teas, pastries, cookies, breads, lunches and anything in between - it's my go-to place as it never disappoints. This store is rather small, so if you want to sit inside it might be a challenge.

Very, very horrible staff. I have a hidden disability and urgently needed to use the toilet (I also have a medical urgent access card to prove this) and the staff were so rude when I explained due to my disability I HAVE to use their toilet. They didn’t let me use their toilet and were all laughing as I walked away. Disgusting behaviour. Looking at the posts on here it’s a common problem that the staff are not nice!!

We visited Gail’s yesterday with friends. I have to say it was all very average and the man serving behind the counter was sullen to say the least. God forbid I dare ask for butter with my scone and milk with my americano! We travelled from Nottingham to see our friends who are staying at Pears as their daughter is in intensive care, and to have some sort of smile from the staff would have been nice. In saying that, the coffee and scones were good, made even better with asking for milk and butter!

We were put off by the staff seeming a little impatient when we were checking out the drinks menu behind the counter, overall it didn't seem particularly welcoming and we may have picked a bad day,

I no longer live in Hampstead but was a regular at this Gail's and will always seek out other branches when I'm travelling around the UK. Never had an issue with service, ever. I visited the this branch on Monday around 4pm with my 9 year old son. We took a few minutes to decide we didn't want drinks, just pastries; there was nobody waiting behind us and just one customer ahead of us. So we weren't holding anybody up. But the attitude of the counter staff...curt, impatient, just plain rude. I ordered my son's pastry and was about to say what I wanted when the second member of staff spoke right over me to her colleague as if I wasn't there. Something about the drink the previous customer had ordered. They went back and forth for a bit and didn't even look my way or acknowledge they'd interrupted me. The pastries were plonked on the counter. We were asked "Is that all?". I pulled a £20 note from my bag and received an abrupt "we don't take cash" and a hard stare. Charming. I paid, and as I was about to leave the previous customer came in to complain his cup was cracked. They replaced it, and as he (and we) were walking out they started talking amongst themselves - I didn't catch what they said but my son did, and he told me later that they were complaining about the other customer. Whoever manages this branch - seriously, have a word with these two. Or move them where they aren't customer-facing.

I usually have lunch here with my family during weekends. All the staff members are so polite and organized and the manager is such a good mannered super-nice lady. She never feels bothered anything we asked for. The staff also so friendly probably because the manager treats them on the way they feel like they have value. Often have chat with the staff here and always super-nice. Thank you for your hard work during this period girls I hope other guests thank you as well. Thank you making our neighborhood much better!

After a great experience with food and service at Gsil’s in Blackheath my experience in the Hampstead branch was really awful! Fully laden I arrived to grab a coffee and spend some time writing. I asked politely how long the cafe would be open for and was met with a curt -we have to stay for another hour- before being rudely told I need to order at the till. I went to the till where the assistant ignored me for a while and then proceeded to serve another customer not having noticed that I was standing waiting to be served. I finally got served and paid and asked if I could grab a table outside, got a mute nod and went outside. The assistant brought out my coffee, I kid you not, a walk of a few metres and said - Madame, just to let you know it’s not table service- and have me a lukewarm, indifferent Chai Latte. I felt scolded and uncomfortable. At over three quid for a cup of bloody awful coffee I won’t be darkening their door again. Awful.

Beware when you ask for a ‘skinny’ coffee, they don’t have skinny milk, they don’t tell you and serve up semi skim. I had to double check then they admitted it wasn’t skinny milk. To be fair, when I told them I wasn’t happy with my drink, they offered me an alternative BUT I don’t like to be misled! AND the Staff are so surly and make the customer experience a miserable one. So many good places in Hampstead, so I know where I WONT be breakfasting again. Bye Bye Gail.

The management need to do something about the very rude members of staff employed in this Hampstead branch, I usually use the St johns wood branch which staff are very efficient and pleasant on the contrary the staff at Hampstead branch are extremely rude and incompetent at customer service.

I went into Gails this afternoon and it was not busy at all. I looked at the items and walked over to the dark haired woman to be served. She instantly made a face at me and when I questioned if something was vegetarian she spoke to me like I was stupid. I ordered several items and after she picked up each item she replaced the tongs then would sigh when I asked for the next item. I was very unimpressed with the service.

We spent over £20 to get hot drinks and few snacks which were meant to be served hot but they were fridge cold instead. We sat in one of the tables outside and the rudest staff left our drinks by the door instead of passing us on our table while we were in the middle of eating our horriblly cold food. Rudest staff ever !!! Expensive and disgraceful

Had an early start from Bristol to London. Noticed this place on my way to my destination so thought I’d get a coffee and something hot to eat for breakfast. Limited choice so I had buttered toast to take away. It took ages then came in a little box with some butter in a small pot! I thought it would’ve been buttered. Anyway I drive to park up somewhere. When I opened the box there were two pieces of sourdough toast, no plastic knife or anything to spread the butter. I had a penknife but the butter although not rancid appeared so and I think it had been frozen and taken straight out the freezer. Impossible to do anything with it. 😡 what a waste of over £5 inc the coffee which was just warm. Awful place and as a 999 ambulance drivers it was money I can I’ll afford to throw away which is exactly what I did with the dry toast and warm coffee. At least I know now never to bother again.

Criticise Starbucks all you like but serving a decent cup of coffee is the one thing that they do well - loads better than Costa amongst others. The only better one is Roasting Plant Coffee in the Strand but then that place is several rungs up the ladder

My mum and I popped in late July. Had a lovely milky coffee (trad caff order!) and we shared a few fresh pastries. Staff were polite and helpful and gave us a bag to take home what pastries we couldn't finish.

I’m a regular here and usually like this location. The staff are mostly friendly and it has a cozy vibe. You can sit by the window and overlook Finchley Road. Unfortunately today I had a bad experience with Georgia who was training new baristas. I scanned my Nero app to pay and was shown on my app that the payment went through. Apparently it hadn’t gone through on the till so Georgia made me show her proof of payment on my app and on my credit card statement but then argued with me that the payment was shown as pending in my Amex app, which it always is as it takes a few days for the merchant to claim the transaction. When I said that I wasn’t willing to swipe my card again and be charged double she made a rather rude comment “the payment hasn’t gone through on our end, so you’ll just walk away with a free coffee” and insisted I swipe my app again. She did give me a receipt noting that if I was indeed charged twice they would give me a refund on my next visit, however I am rather disappointed by customer service. You would think that staff would care less about a potentially free £3.55 coffee than losing a regular customer. I will not be a regular anymore at this location.
