Glass House Restaurant at the Premier Inn in Barnsley

The photo is of the large semi circle bench seat at table 41 in the bar area. The photo was taken in May 2024 and it had been like that for months. We went recently in January 2025 and the seat is still like that; on the left and the right of the large bench seat the foam rubber is hanging out. How could an area manager of a supposedly prestigious firm like Whitbread's see that and allow it to stay like that all this time? And what must people think when they visit the hotel and restaurant for the first time when the seats are ripped and the foam rubber is hanging out. Table 41 is in a really prominent position so you can't miss it. I notice they have bought a pool table; I would have thought repairing the upholstery would have been more of a priority. As for the food: we had fish and chips a few months ago and the batter was wet and really, really soggy. We had fish and chips again in January and once again the batter was wet and really, really soggy. Head office must have changed the recipe or perhaps the cooking instructions for the staff, as it never used to be like that; the batter was always crispy in the good old days. We have been to Premier Inn restaurants all over the country, this is the very worst. I would say the place is moribund.

Shocking we've come here before as we've stayed at the hotel several times. The service Shocking. Bar man on shift completely inept. With serving drinks and using the till. Struggled to order food. Hardly any drinks. Badly run establishment. If the breakfast is anything like the service we've received this evening. We will be complaining. Had breakfast this morning to be pleasantly satisfied with qualityand service. However the evenings events still need addressing.

What can I say about xmas eve...booked in the Glasshouse Barnsley for our family (24 of us) and turns out the chef had phoned in sick and most of the food we ordered (weeks ago) they didn't have. We booked for 4pm and didn't get the starters till 5.15. We changed our order and they came back and said they didnt have those either!! They apologised and offered 25% off..not the point in my eyes and really upset me...I asked to speak to the Manager who eventually came out. What an arrogant and VERY rude person she was. She said it wasn't their fault as their food delivery hadn't turned up. I told her she should have rang me earlier in the day and give me the option to cancel or not..all she kept saying was don't shout at me (which I wasn't and even her staff said I wasnt). She had no empathy at all so hard faced and rude. Me and my husband apologised for getting upset to the rest of staff..who were lovely and agreed with me that it was a complete sham...Eventually we all just left. I had 11 hungry grandkids to feed on Xmas Eve. The starters they had wouldn't have filled a 1 year old...and were cold too. I offered to pay for these but the Manager said it didn't matter...I offered again she said no. I said OK then and as I was walking away she shouted YOUR WELCOME. Call that professional. What a rude woman. Never again will I or my family go near that restaurant!

Had a lovely afternoon celebrating mine and my brothers birthday, meal was great, lovely atmosphere, the manager and staff were very friendly and helped to make it a special afternoon, would definitely recommend.

We was given a gift card for Christmas we checked online and phoned to check that we could use it there we was told yes but come to pay they didn’t accept it and was very rude and £92.40 for the food what was only half eatable was not good we will never be coming again.

Christmas Day Lunch Understandably Christmas can be a testing time for many businesses . However the experience received today wasn’t such a testing time but a waste of time ! As a first sitting for Christmas lunch I had hoped for some quality service and at least well presented edible food. We were presented with food slapped on plates , no sign of any garnishes or even pride of presentation . All the food was either pre cooked or frozen , dry tasteless and frankly a rip off at £56.50 a head . The Christmas atmosphere and Cheer was absent . Unfortunately this restaurant makes McDonald’s rating A’La Carte

Went for Christmas dinner. Would a million percent never ever go again! Tables booked at 3.30 got seated at 3.40 baring in mind we was there from 3pm. Starter came at 4.05 then waited 45minutes before asking how long our mains were going to be which they replied 5 minutes…. 13minutes later our mains came with the wrong meats which then took back and changed(still one was wrong) we ordered extra pigs in blankets and roasters because we got told there would only be just mash on our dinner….. no mash and already had pigs in blankets and roasters so didn’t need to order extra. Had to ask for our dessert to be bagged up cause our taxi was booked and that was also wrong! We literally couldn’t be arse and didn’t have time to change it so we went with them.. THEN as we walked out we heard the staff giving another table a free bottle of prosecco for the mistake made. We got offered nothing. 1st and last time we will go out for Christmas dinner

Popped in for a late afternoon drink with colleagues. Found a tired interior, slow service and dirty tables in the bar area. Great views, staff were fine but overstretched by the 12 people in the bar area?

Ladies afternoon catch up and the festive menu. Where to start. Table was ok enough, then the noise started. I understand maintenance has to be done. We could barely hear each other so they kindly moved us to a booth, which solved the noise issue. Festive menu, Pate and caramelised onions, it looked very basic, not sure if the bread was toasted or stale. Pate was pretty tasteless. Christmas dinner first attempt was sent back as it was cold, it's replacement was again cold. Carrots and broccoli were barely cooked. Highlight on the plate was the cabbage. Friends smothered chicken looked like a frozen chicken breast which had been microwaved, topped with overcooked bacon. Chips were pale and the salad was limp. My other friend had the veggie option, which was ok, again the dreaded limp salad had been added and they had run out of salad. All in all the food was dire. We didn't pay. Lady serving us couldn't have been anymore apologetic. I felt quite sorry that she had been made to serve us this food. The ladies catch up was superb as always, but I know we won't be returning here for the next one.

Came to visit family at a time when I had a broken leg. All staff members went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. Terri-ann behind the bar was very kind in bringing my drinks over to me all day and Terri and Jay were fantastic accommodating my special requests on the menu (food was lovely). Was really nervous about staying away with my leg but felt very comfortable the whole stay.

My partner and I had dinner on Sunday 15 December. We arrived around 6:15 pm. It was quiet as there weren't many other diners. I ordered an americano with hot milk which was lukewarm when it came. We had a long wait for our food. My partner ordered pie, chips and peas. The chips and peas were cold. My veg lasagne was overcooked and chewy. Very disappointing.

Went with family members food was nice, and the manager and one of the men that was waiting on the table area couldn’t do enough for you - only down side was no one was on the desk where you check in for table when we got there and when they did come they weren’t the friendliest.

I was working near here and called in for breakfast. It was a really good breakfast. Kyle and the rest of the staff were excellent with quick service.

Great experience visiting, had a pre scheduled visit with the manager to team up our football club with the pub to support each other in the future! Manager was extremely keen to support the local club and also enjoyed a spot of lunch whilst there which I had no grumbles at all about! Cant wait to make this my regular spot from now on..

Been through to Barnsley today for some food and drink. Lovely spacious pub with plenty of seating, very welcoming staff and happy to help. The food was lovely and flavourful. Thank you to Kyle who served us and made sure we had plenty of drinks! Will definitely be returning in future. Big thanks to everyone at the pub today for their hospitality :)

We visited the pub today for the first time, lovely spacious pub with a pool table and lots of seating. From walking in to walking out we were made to feel very comfortable. We were served by Kyle who made sure we had plenty of drinks and took our food orders. The pizza was amazing! We will definitely be visiting again, thank you to everyone working today that made our visit enjoyable! Keep up the good work guys!!

Ordered the salmon off of the Christmas menu. This was absolutely lovely and the sauce so nice I'll be attempting to recreate at home! However, the portion was very small and our party didn't get any vegetables with it, so only had a small piece of salmon and three halves of new potatoes and three cherry tomatoes. Other guests turkey dinner portions were easily 4x the portion. If there was veg with it it would have been a better portion but odd to think the cost was extra for salmon to get a very noticeablely smaller plate with elements missing. A few more potatoes and veg and that would have been well worth the money. We were offered complimentary drinks and the staff were really great. It won't stop me coming back, though, I'd just order something else because other plates were 5*.

Love come to the glass house come often always lovely but the lady who served us tonight didn't get her name was very amazing she was very quick at serving and fetching food out she was extremely busy but always kept a smile

Used to be a brill pub! 3 times now that we’ve been and shocking service - the first time we waited an hour for our food when there was nobody in the place! The second time we was waiting 20 minutes to be seated having everyone walk past us like we were invisible and it took ages for the bill the waitress was nowhere to be seen and finally today we walked in and waited 20 minutes again to be seated being ignored again ! We walked straight out and went to nandos

Over priced breakfasts. Terrible slow service. Sarcastic, rude staff. Only half a menu. Only 1 coffee machine. Unlimited breakfast is a joke FALSE ADVERTISING...... had to wait over 40 minutes for any hot food. Child sized portions. Cheap quality food. Avoid at all costs, and go somewhere else.

Actually would not rate at all . Waiting long time for breakfast ,once came terrible definately not cooked to order . Asked for manager as returned all breakfast her manner left alot to be desired will not return again need to re train .

We had booked a table for 5:30pm to enjoy some food before a show. We waited 15 minutes before finding the waitress ourselves to order. We ordered food and drinks together. We recieved our drinks quite quickly. However after 45 minutes we still had not recieved our food. I went to find our waitress who advised they were being plated up now. 10 minutes later she returned to our table to advise our order had not gone through as there was a problem with the printer (she also mentioned this had been going on for a couple of months) and would bump our order to the front. At this point we had no time to eat as the show was due to start in 15 minutes and advised to leave the food. If there is a known issue with the printer, you should be checking with the kitchen they have received the order or just simply switching to pen and paper!!

James who I think works on reception at the premier in came to help staff in the restaurant was amazing. Such a breath of fresh air, friendly, fun and lovely company, he was running around trying to help where ever possible. Lovely to see. Thank you james x And thank you to all the staff, you work so hard and you are appreciated xx

Kyle was the one who served us today when we went for our dinner to the glass house. He made us feel very welcome, he was very friendly and professional. He asked my children if they would like some drawing sheets to do some colouring in to keep them occupied whilst waiting for our food, which made them very happy. Nothing was too much bother for him, so thank you to Kyle for making our time at the glass house a great experience. The food was also lovely and we didn’t have to wait long for it either.

We are up north this weekend so decided to visit the Glasshouse as they had a great offer on. Our waitress Kelly was great. She was so friendly and chatty. Food great. Service great. Will definitely return.

One of the best breakfasts we've had this week after staying in 3 different hotels, 1 other being a premier. Kelly is a fantastic host who is very friendly and always around if you need her. The restaurant area is clean and tidy and well stocked. Looking forward to breakfast for the rest of the week!

We stayed and had breakfast each day. Like that it’s cooked for you to order and able to say how you like it cooked, especially with a teen who has a huge appetite and fussy about how it’s cooked. Would definitely visit even if not staying. Thank you.

Staying at the attached hotel for work. Staff in the restaurant and bar have been nothing but polite and helpful. Food was hot and quick. Kelly been on the bar so far the 2 nights I've been here and she polite and and helpful.

Staff were super friendly and helpful, especially Amy. She was so welcoming and her service was top class. She was so happy to help. Definitely worth a visit!

Do not eat here if you're in a rush! Myself and my father had a meal deal with the Premier inn to eat here. If I hadnt already paid I would not have. The service was appalling, we had to wait more than an hour for our main course which was chased up twice. It was very quite, so no excuse for being busy. When it did finally arrive it wasn't pipping hot, i couldn't be bothered to complain and wait for a further hour to have it replaced! My fathers lasagne had hardly any meat in it either. We then went on to order desert (part of the deal) , well that took a further 45 mins again chased up several times. I was meant to have a spiced apple and blackberry Crumble, well I'm not sure what the berry was but it wasn't blackberry. No apologies were forthcoming about the wait time. A nice relaxing meal has just made me really wound up.

We booked a table. There was one person working in the whole place. Couldn't get served by anyone. The hostess also had an attitude. Avoid this place. Rather visit the town centre and get food from the market or the selection of restaurants available

Went for Sunday lunch. Both enjoyed it but we both said we do better at home. Quite cheap but as we had collected points, very cheap. Will be going again but next time during the week.

One of the worst places I've visited. Went there, was seated at the table and then nothing. Waited half an hour before we ask the waitress if they were going to take our order and then said they'd be right over. No other table had the drinks or food either. When we were ordering our drinks we asked if they had any issues with the kitchen/chef as no one had any food, and they said that there was only one chef working, but they would make sure our food came out 1st, even though there was people there that were in the restaurant a long time before us. We left and will most definitely not be going back.

I booked a table for 9 people all the way back in April this year for the 31st August to celebrate my mum's 60th and nieces 9th birthday with family. We arrived yesterday evening and we had to stand around by the doors for over 15 minutes before anyone even noticed we were there. Once they had she had to go and speak to another member of staff about where we were being seated before she could show us to our table. She came back 5 minutes later and had to rearrange a set of 3 tables right by the doors to accommodate for us all. Once she had finished we got shown to our seats and she said she would be back in 5 minutes to take our drinks order but she didn't return for 30 minutes . By then we were ready to order food as well as our drinks so we placed two different orders with the same server as we were paying the two bills separately. She took our full orders and then said she would be back shortly with our drinks. Over 20 minutes later she returned with a mixture of drinks with several still missing. So she said remind her what we was missing and then she went off to get the rest but didn't return for another 10 minutes. We then had to sit there keeping 5 child occupied for 1hour and 30 minutes before anyone of us received any food and they weren't even complicated meals. I received part of my order at the same time my family received part of theirs and then we had to all start eating separately to each other as there was still meals missing. Another 30 minutes went by with two children and one adult still missing their meals. We had enquired a few times about the missing meals and were told there was a delay. 2 hours after we arrived we finally received the last 3 meals and by then no one wanted to eat them. We were all freezing cold from the draught from the open doors behind were we had been sat for 2 hours. We then asked why they all came out at different times and why we had to wait for so long for simple meals and the only excuse we got was that because we had ordered from one table but on two separate receipts that the cooks in the kitchen hadn't read the receipts properly and hadn't cooked them in the correct order and had started cooking everyone else's meals in the restaurant instead and we just got the rest of our meals overlooked. Which is an absolutely shocking excuse for a restaurant. We overheard others complain several times, refuse to pay for their meals, ask for a discount etc and when they were told they can't discount any of the food regardless of the delays or how the food tasted and looked we were even more disgusted. Never in our lives have we ever gone out for dinner and had this kind of service so we all agreed to get up and walk out. We didn't pay for a single thing as almost 4 whole meals were wasted because they weren't nice and 5 meals were late, cold, greasy and horrible and weren't even touched. The kitchen staff who we're on shift on this day between 4:30pm and 7pm need to have some serious words with their management and they need some serious re training. We will never ever return to this restaurant and all the 20+ people who we witnessed walk out also will probably never return either. There comes a time when everyone has to admit defeat and unfortunately that should've been done last night before you lost customers.

Don't bother took 50 minutes for meal to come family of six near us who came in same time were still waiting after 1hr 20 mins. Place was quiet not even busy. I ordered smothered platter with larger steak, when it finally arrived gujons were frazzled onion rings were cremated side of coleslaw missing and steak was 4oz and not 8oz as ordered. Staff were that scarce that by time I informed her I'd eaten the edible parts. Only got offered some more onio rings, like I said don't bother

Another business trip, meant another stay at the hotel attached to this Restaurant. Used the restaurant for breakfast and my server was Wayne and another female staff remember (didn’t know her name). Both were friendly and were obviously under a lot of pressure, especially having to deal with some very rude and demanding customers. Plenty of choice for food and drinks and very tasty. The only negative I have is there clearly needs to be more staff members if they are going to serve food to as many people that were in the restaurant at the time I was there.

It had been expected that one of us would be out of Barnsley for the evening- probably having a curry - but a change of plan allowed both of us to walk down to Table, Table. As it was Friday, we settled for Fish & Chips - one with garden peas and one with mushy peas. Mine was fine but my wife thought the batter on her fish was greasy, albeit the fish itself was lovely. Mine was fine but we did mention the batter to the manager. The well priced Vistamar Sauvognon Blanc went well with the meal - so an enjoyable walk out.

Couple of hiccups (from other staff) but this pair have gone above and beyond for myself and business partner. 4th week of visiting and each and every time they have excelled. 2nd time here but wouldn't go again. Small portions, burger dry, chips over cooked, jacket potato was awful with processed cheese and not great service. There was a table of 8 of us and none of us were that impressed

Really good morning spent at the Glass House, good food and friendly service from Amy.

Paid for 3hr parking in the multi storey car park as car park adjacent was at capacity. Made our way up the lifts at 1:30pm to find that the doors to the restaurant were locked. The sign on the door stated that that the restaurant opening times remained as they had always been. Spoke to the premier inn attached and was advised that the restaurant is closed but she would go find a manager. The manager confirmed that the restaurant is closed temporarily and when we mentioned the lack of signage in the car park (for those paying parking like us) and the fact that there was absolutely no indication of a temporary closure online we were told, “nothing more I can do or say really”. Appalling, really gone downhill since our last visit and wouldn’t recommend anyone to visit in the future. Would give 0 star if given the option!

Table table more like toilet toilet My convoy ordered for me and somehow managed to finish there food before my 2 slices of garlic bread that was deffo from microwave and don’t get me started on the chipotle chips, The potato was not even cooked and my Bowles after definitely were… I have never seen such a council house chilli in my life places upon cold microwaved potato’s that have never seen a chip pan before.. anyways my bf paid for this “food” because if it was me I would have asked for a refund and also my sanity back, anyways wouldn’t recommend but nice view 🫠

My family came to visit and treat us for tea but the food portions are so small. Ordered £13 burger and came with the same portion as 2 for £12. Also ordered club sandwich which wasn't toasted, there was no bacon and the bread was soggy because of the egg. The veggie Thai curry was nice tasting but only had a few carrots as the meat replacement and wasn't filling for £12. It was also freezing in the restaurant. Really disappointed 😞

2nd visit back here after staying at the attached hotel when visiting family. Breakfast wasn’t too bad, just very busy in the restaurant with children, think some sort of event was going off and it could’ve probably done with some more staff helping out the poor waiter Wayne. He did his best and remained calmed under pressure. Whilst the food took a little longer than last time to arrive it was still very nice.

Very slow service. Starter red hot main meal was Luke warm forgot cauliflower cheese said it would be another 5 minutes but I was half way through my meal by then. Churros was over cooked outside so hard. Wouldn't go again and only went as we had booked Toby originally but wouldn't add 2 to our party so had to book an alternative. For £30 a head I'd expect better

Went for mother days it took 3 and a half hours from start to finish mostly waiting for food they also forgot a desert which by this point we wanted to go home. Poor service

Me and my partner came here wanting a nice meal plain and simple...waitress was hanging on to life, took are drink and food order, waited ages for food and was very unsatisfactory with the portion size of food which couldn't fill a child let alone an adult even when a plate cost £13 each then still hungry so ordered dessert hoping to god it would fill me more then a happy meal but sadly not as the dessert was a slice of tesco finest cheesecake just with out the fine. Overall extremely over priced for the food and service.

Best dining experience I’ve had in a long time. The restaurant had a pleasing, calm atmosphere. Our server Amy was fantastic and made us feel welcome - nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely incredible. We chose the Sunday dinner and it was one of the best roasts I’ve had. A credit to Rowan and Jamie.

Arrived after a horrendous car journey in the storms to be greeted by Ebony who was super friendly and very patient explaining the meal deal in detail and showing me the wine available. She put me at ease and had me relaxing in moments. Thank you Ebony! Well done to the team. The food was basic but tasty. The wine was lovely! ☺️

I had a stater withch was a garlic bread with out cheese and our mains where chicken tikka curry it was very tasty and hot it come with a propperdom and a nan bread it was so filling and my fraind had a clacic beef lasagne with chips and it was very yummy and scrummy in her tummy the lasagne was very sausey and the service was apparently brill Scott and rowan was out off this world 🌎 Scott was very friendly and helpful and he gose above and beyond as it was the first time we have been and will definitely be coming back thank you Abby and Lorraine xx

Had a lovely Sunday lunch 😋. Yorkshire puddings were nice, honey roasted parsnips were very good, turkey, turnip mash, roasters and carrots n peas. Proper food done well. Would highly recommend.

A great atmosphere and welcoming staff and had a nice experience and the food was affordable and delicious. Special attention was made to ensuring we were comfortable and the starters were wonderful, the chicken wings were tasty and of an outstanding quality, the mains were of a high quality and the taste was phenomenal. Fantastic service from the staff as we were seated promptly, the waitress Kelly was friendly, attentive and responded quickly to additional requests for our food. Overall it was an outstanding experience and we will definitely return because of the amazing time we had, and my stepfather and mother were very satisfied with the service from the employees, particularly Kelly who was phenomenal throughout and a delight to be served by.

Come here for boxing day food and can say we will not be coming back the food was awfull. Roast potatoes were hard the gravy was like dish water and it was cold. As for the menu we got from them there wasn't any description on the food as everything had cranberry sauce on and the starter had horse raddish onit and no on like its if we'd of known we could of asked for it without it. And it cost us nearly 30 quid per person with side which defo not worth it it was like canteen food. Staff were friendly but the kitchen was slow to say was hardly anyone in at the time was there 2 half hour nearly

Food was lovely, standard pub grub but you can tell the chefs take pride in their work. Hot food well presented and tasty, what more could you ask for. The server, siobhan was so lovely, helping my very elderly mother in law from her seat and back again! The young Lad on the bar, harrison was great with the kids too and gave my youngest a quid for the toy machine. Can't fault anything at all

Went for a Christmas meal with around 20 people. It had been booked for weeks, and we even sent the food order in over a week in advance. We were one of only 2/3 tables eating, and the starters came out cold. The sides that came with the mains arrived after most had finished eating their main course, if they turned up at all. The food was tasty, but it would have been better to arrive at the same time as everything else. When we challenged the staff response was we make mistakes. And it was shrugged off. Staff don't care. It was evident from the service received.

Unsure if there have been staff changes, appear to be a few new faces and management and the place has certainly improved since.

There was a large party of us and 2 of the main meals were cold and the turkey felt like it was straight from fridge they took it back but my brother wouldn't eat after WILL NOT BE COMING AGAIN And will NOT recommend

The service and food were both excellent. Amy was our server and she couldn't do enough. Jamie was the chef he fetched our meals and again was very polite. All in all a great experience we will be dining here again.

So booked a table for Sunday carvery at 4 originally they pushed it back to 4.30 so we turned up to be told they had no carvery and they might be able to scrape one together absolutely shocking

Served by Kelly & Kyle. Always very friendly and helpful. Whilst the food came out a little slower than usual we were asked if we needed extra drinks and kept informed. Will visit again

Fantastic service by our waitress this evening. Unfortunately the food could have been better. My younger daughter asked for her burger to be served without cranberry sauce but it came with it anyway. My main course was not particularly hot. My elder daughter also commented that her food wasn't hot. Unfortunately when desserts came two of us who had ordered a dish with warm custard got vaguely tepid custard. Such a shame because I have had great food here previously.

Again, a lovely family meal tonight. Little Miss Sunshine Great Niece loved her 10 piece veg pasta. Couldn’t fault anything, friendly service & accommodating our large family group. Always smiles, always happy we will be back soon

Waited a while for food there was 4 of us 3 had the same meal all was cold, peas was hard my daughter got shell in her egg, not busy at all only 2 in aswell as us, told waiter about it said I will see what I can do went to pay and nothing not even a apology AVOID. To top it all off 2 of us have had a bad stomach.

We went on Friday evening. For food. It wasn’t busy. We had a long wait before our food order was taken. And it took a long time for our meal to arrive. The food wasn’t very tasty. It was a cold place. Both myself and my husband were cold. No soap in the toilets.

As I am partially sighted, I received a shock when I was asked if I wanted a menu in large print or braille. Not many places do this. The food prepared by Chef Andy was absolutely amazing. Very tasty and worthy of 5 stars. Whatever you do, don't lose that chef! The staff were also 5 star making sure our meal and drinks were perfect, and catered to our needs. They are friendly and polite. I really enjoyed having a meal out and I must admit, I will be back shortly. May have to make this a weekly outing.
