Golden City in Barnsley

Fantastic proper old school chinese .don't deliver but the best best ones don't.

We have had food from Golden City for over 30 years, years, since we moved into Mapp. It is our go to place for Chinese food. The quality is always good and the prices good value. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I have Mushroom Foo Yung and Rice, my husband has Chicken Curry and Chips.. Can't speak more highly of them.

The worst chinese takeaway I have ever tried. Cold. Dry. Salty.

Well this Chinese food is the worst I’ve ever had , raw chicken, gloopy sauce, stodgy rice , and the prawn crackers just tasted of horrible cooking oil . In the bin it went . Absolutely disgusting food .

Called up to have a polite chat with the manager regarding the chicken balls being raw in the centre after my daughters had to been to collect them. I was met by a very hostile lady on the phone calling me a liar it wasn't possible as the chicken was already precooked when they purchased it, they then batter it. When I offered to send photos I was repeatedly told it wasn't possible. In a rather rude manner!!!!

My family have visit the Golden City for over twenty Years and the staff are always friendly, FOOD is outstanding every time. I would recommend to everyone 😊👍

Mouth watering taste explosions every time.

I ordered sweat and sour king prawn and egg fried rice, the prawn balls were so over cooked you could not taste the prawns, they were like burnt crisps, tasted like they were cooked then frozen and then recooked, my meal ended up in the dog, very dissappointed

I actually threw my entire order in the bin! Chicken chow mien consisted of bean sprouts, noodles, processed tasteless odd looking strips of chicken (like the frozen strips from farm foods) nothing else but a disgusting gravy sauce. No veg, no flavour it was the worst thing I’ve ever tasted. Chicken fried rice: random bits of ham, with over cooked cheap peas, rice, egg and again bland cheap strips of chicken. Prawn toast was just fried bread, no prawn taste whatsoever. I have never thrown food away in my life before now. The chef has clearly never tasted their own food, they need to invest more into ingredients and Recepies. Agree with the previous review... wouldn’t even have given one star but had to to give a review.

I use a few different Chinese takeaways depending on what food I want that day but every time that I've gone here it's been nice. The gravy in chicken or the beef in mushroom is really nice. ( my favourite)There just needs to be more of it as there isn't really enough. If they did that I would say 5 star 😊

dreadful beef chow mein consisted of beef and noodles and was so dry. then to top it off the beef tasted bad. I would not even give it one star but had to to post this review !
