Visiting Buxton for a mini break away and read great reviews. Mixed experience for us. Food was amazing! Freshly prepared and delicious starters and main courses. The service was poor. Two young girls serving, was not asked about the meal once during our visit. Wasn’t offered any other drinks until after we’d finished our mains and ready to settle the bill. Abruptly walked off after paying and it felt an effort for the thank you to be made to us. What a lovely meal which was let down by not feeling valued as a customer and poor table service.

Really pleasant atmosphere with a nice wood burner stove. Food was top notch! Had the monk fish 🐠 . Would go again.

Visited from South Wales. Frequented this establishment two nights running as it was so good! It's not the cheapest, but it's certainly up there with the best, the veg / vegan dishes are exquisite. Clearly all food is created / cooked by someone who has talent and a functional understanding of Thai cuisine. Will certainly return when in the area and I urge you to do the same!

If you enjoy Thai cuisine, you will simply love Khomkai! Great for evenings out!! There is also an excellent lunch menu, reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

We were lucky to get the last table on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full and the staff were working hard. Nevertheless they were friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. I can recommend the monkfish curry. the restaurant had a great vibe that, together with the quality of the food, made for a super evening out.

Fabulous meal, great service and a lovely environment. There was a rowdy table which were dominating the restuarant and nothing was done to ask them to keep it down, otherwise I would rate the Khomkhai as excellent.

Staying in a cottage in Buxton last week with our dog, I was trawling TA reviews for takeaway options in the town when I spotted a review for this Thai restaurant mentioning they welcomed dogs. I therefore booked us in for the Monday evening at 6.15pm and there were already a number of people dining despite the early hour and day of the week which was a good sign. We and our golden retriever were warmly welcomed b the front of house lady and chef owner and tables were well spaced so our dog didn't get in the way. We ordered a chicken cashew stir fry, a special duck dish and a chocken red curry plus 3 different types of rice so the 3 of us could all share the dishes, with prawn crackers to start. The quality and flavour of everything was excellent. We've all enjoyed a number of holidays in Thailand and the flavours felt authentic. Prices were very reasonable - £53 for the food and £10 total for a beer, glass of wine and a soft drink (2 separate payments were requested for food and drink). Wish we lived nearby as would then be a regular visitor!!

A group of friends on a cycling trip had a great dinner here. Very good menu, authentic flavours, friendly and efficient staff. In fact we enjoyed our first night dinner there so much, that we went back for our last night!

Got a takeaway tonight, probably some of the best Thai food I've ever eaten. Mixed starter was excellent, fishcakes and prawn toast were the stars, but the satay chicken was close. I had Ped Mekam, and my partner had Chicken Massaman, both were super flavourful and meat was tender. Coconut rice was cooked perfectly. Really good portion sizes. We're only in Buxton for a week, but I might make a second visit here.

What a charming authentic Thai restaurant we have just discovered. We chose to have a vegetarian meal and were absolutely delighted with our choices. As someone who has moved up from London to Leek I have eaten in some great Thai restaurants. I was extremely disappointed in the only Thai in Leek so, we decided to try our luck in Buxton and came up trumps. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, the food was spot on and the place was buzzing. Get there if you can!

Been here quite a few times now and we love it! The staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient!. Two waitresses who are there the majority of the time are lovely and work so hard! The food is absolutely fantastic, never disappoints, absolutely delicious and good portions. I also love that the chefs/ kitchen staff come out and serve the food now and again during busy times or ask if everything is ok. Team work! This is my go to place when I’m need of Thai food! Would definitely recommend tempura prawns, chicken satay for starter and the drunken noodles, red and green curry for main! Highly recommend this restaurant!

Absolutely lovely food. service was happy kind and very helpful and those orange cucumber flowers 😂 We had a set menu for two lovely choices and was full by the end of the meal. Great place for couples, birthdays or families and I hear dogs are allowed as long as there not crazy 🤪dogs🐶 I mean what would Dolly do?

We really enjoyed our visit. Friendly staff and a really good choice of options. All the dishes we had were excellent, really great flavours and care taken in cooking the food. I particularly enjoyed the panag curry.

Absolutely wonderful, authentic, delicious Thai food…complemented by fabulous service. We highly recommend the dumplings to start, and the Green curry was outstanding….we had a chicken & a duck one, just tasted divine, with the right amount of spice! Best Thai we’ve had in the UK…If we lived locally, we would be dining here every week!! Well done team Khomkhai!

Yes all the reviews are great & this restaurant is amazing. Just happened to walk past as its near where we were staying & booked it. Lovely homely restaurant with friendly happy staff. I loved the way it ws furnished with all the greenery of the plants & Thai ornaments. Now for the food, it ws delicious. The Duck in Tamerind sauce melted in my mouth & perfectly crispy skin. My husband had the Monkfish curry, amazing. The duck ws the best I've ever had. I wish we were staying longer in Buxton so we could visit again. Don't miss this lovely gem of a restaurant

Struggling to find places open in Buxton on a Tuesday evening we happened upon this lovely one in a quiet street off the square. Attractive room, very friendly welcoming service, wide range of dishes to choose from and all arrived quickly. Chefs special of Sizzling duck was delicious, so too the beef stir fry, alongside spare ribs and chicken satay starters.

Lovely food, beautifully presented. Well worth a visit.

We have been to Buxton many times but stumbled upon this beautiful restaurant by chance wow so pleased we did the food was absolutely amazing we had 4 different starters, 4 different main courses all served with different rice's they were all served pipping hot the service was excellent and it made a change to have a lovely local beer instead of Chang thanks for the service with a smile and the lovely food nextime we are visiting Buxton in the Motorhome we will see you all again.

We visited last night and I was blown away by the exceptional Thai food, I has the duck spring rolls and the duck sizzler (yes I like duck) 🤣 The staff are intentive, friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be back

Probably the worst Thai food I have ever had. If you can't make a simple Tom Yum soup then you can't cook Thai food. We were a group of 4 people, 3 of us having a mix of the usual curries. They were all super sweet and had no balance of the magic 5 Thai 5 flavours. I can make much better Thai food than this and certainly wouldn't get ripped off!!!

Another visit to this stunning restaurant for home made Thai food. The staff are so welcoming always smiling and helpful. We visit Thailand nearly every year and the food at Khomkhai is the closest to actually being in Thailand. Fresh ingredients, amazing spices and succulent prawns or chicken. Go for the sharing plate to start, and an order of the tempura prawns OMG AMAZING. Every dish on the menu is delicious, but the curry’s are the best. If you like it spicy hot, when ordering say you want it Thai hot…….at least 4 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ เผ็ดไทยร้อน. Thank you to all the staff a great night throughly enjoyed Anthony/Terry

One of our go to restaurants in Buxton and we had another fantastic night out in Khomkhai. As always the friendliest staff with exceptional service and great food. The passion that goes into the cooking shines through on to the plate and we could only find praise for our meals. We look forward to our next night out here.

We went out as a group of 7, and they were extremely nice and accommodating to us, with great food and service. We ordered a lot of food, and our food still managed to be delivered quickly, the staff were also really friendly to us, and particularly the kids. They were also really helpful and experienced.The food was really amazing, with lots of varying options.It was also reasonably priced fir the quality and amount of food.We had a great time, and would definitely come again.

We were blown away with this superb restaurant. Of course the star of the show was the mouthwatering food. Our meal was absolutely amazing. The variety of Thai flavours and the quality of the ingredients were outstanding. Perfectly fresh, perfectly cooked, incredibly delicious. What a Chef! We aren't big eaters but we could not stop eating such beautiful food. We chose a fixed menu and the food just kept coming. This is a beautifully presented restaurant which creates a relaxed and calming atmosphere. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and everyone was very friendly. We had a superb evening. Thank you for making our last evening the best of our great weekend in Buxton. If only you were based in Buckinghamshire!

My girlfriend and I have traveled around the world and love trying the cuisine from each culture, we’ve even been to Thailand and we must say one of the best Thai curry’s we have had. It’s a definite must. We had the Gaeng Panang with Tofu. Must try.

We booked for an early meal at 6.30 on a Friday. After being shown to our table we were left for 15 minutes without menus so eventually, we went up to the bar to ask for menus so that we could at least begin choosing. The woman at the bar asked if we hadn't been given menus and if we had booked! I then asked for a drinks menu also that, at least we could order a drink. Again, instead of just giving us them we were told they were usually on the table! Eventually, we were given the drinks menu, which did not have beers listed and when we asked we were directed to a blackboard at the rear of the restaurant where some beers were listed ( but without showing the volume, strength or price which is illegal). We eventually ordered our food and went for the vegetarian starter for two and our main courses. When it arrived the waitress slipped and spilt the sauce and about 1/3 of the food on the table. Accidents happen and we have no issue with that but she then left and we were left waiting for a long time until we went to find another waitress to clear it up who the muttered something about getting us some prawn crackers as she left. I had to go back to the bar to say we didn't want prawn crackers as we are vegetarian and we were told they'd bring something else instead but this never appeared and by then we'd given up! The main courses were actually quite nice but the service throughout was so bad we'll probably never go back. It's a shame because this place used to be really good but we were made to feel like an inconvenience for even turning up.

The restaurant looks great and is very inviting but there was little atmospherere and the food was disappointing. The Penang and Massaman curries were bland and overly sweet . Thai food is my absolute fave and I was very disappointed, I wouldn't come back.

Absolutely stunning meal last night…we were visiting Buxton to celebrate our wedding anniversary and came across the restaurant , which is lovely! We went for one of the set-menu options and it was delicious. Service good too. Would definitely recommend !!!

I was searching for Indian food and came across a Thai restaurant. I thought to give it a try. It was my first time trying Thai food. The food was good. I also liked the service. But my personal preference would be Indian food.

There were three of us and two of us had the crab cakes. We were disappointed in them - they were bland, limp and not hot in any sense of the word. The main courses would all have been a lot better if their sauces were not so sweet. Disappointing desert menu - ice cream or syrup sponge. Service was very slow (our meal took 2 and a quarter hours from sitting down to paying the bill). It was 10 minutes before we got menus. Admittedly the place was very busy as it was a Saturday night but I did wonder whether dealing with take away meals was taking preference over serving the diners.

Although locate at a street that is quite easy to find, but that is all I could say about this place. Food is average but consider pricy for the quality and taste of the food. Only have 2 service staff for the entire restaurant. Smoke alarm came off as open kitchen and the extractor fan just not strong enough. Ambience in need of improvement. We were cooped on a corner where all the customers were jammed into, space the customers out will give people space rather than "in your face" type approach. If this restaurant want to beat Simple Thai, much needs to be done.

Quite busy on Saturday night. It'll be great to book table. Thai cuisine, but for English tastes, Tom yum soup was nice. Stir fly flat noodles were tasted okay. Red curry was salty. It is better to reduce salt. Staff are friendly and helpful. Good services. There is pay and park car parking around.

Visited on a Saturday night while local on holiday and booked based on good TA reviews. On this occasion previous reviews were not aligned with our experience. The food itself was decent and tasty albeit value for money is so-so bordering pricey, duck and chicken dishes were good quality meat. Service was again, so-so and mostly younger staff and seemed lacking a clear front of house lead. The music choice was a bizarre and overly loud mix of heavy metal (!?) followed by ABBA’s greatest hits….😳🤷🏻‍♂️ Not one I’d return to but clearly others have had a much better/different experience!

We were recommended this Restaurant/Takeaway by our Host of the Coach House were we are staying for a Weeks Break. We ordered a selection of Food for 4 Hungry Adults, We weren't disappointed & the Tom Yum Soups in particular were Delicious. The portions were very Generous.

Out of the 3 or so Thai restaurants around Buxton we chose Khomkhai Thai Cuisine which was hidden away from the main road. We were pleasantly surprised as there were several vegetarian & vegan options on the menu, and we were impressed by the tasty flavours and quality of the food. We'll be coming back again for more!

It's a hidden gem in Buxton for Thai lovers. We came to know about this place from a Thai originate lady who recommended to try this restaurant once. It's worth visiting if you are in Buxton and like to try Thai food. Service was a bit slow, but food was delicious. They have a good range of food options from starter to the Main dish. We tried their Duck as a main and it was soft, tender and juicy.

Very disappointed with our takeaway given the restaurant reviews. Is it the same business? We had the cod, which was soggy, and the chicken jungle curry, which was more like a thin broth. Chicken was a few days old too. Mixed skewers to start were also poor - we threw away the chicken ones as they looked undercooked and we didn’t want to risk eating them. Our worst meal in Buxton. Really disappointing. Do not order a takeaway from here.

Really poor takeaway. Is it the same restaurant?! Delivery driver turned up in a flooring van! Chicken satay looked pink so went in the bin. No satay sauce. Cod was soggy and jungle curry was like a thin broth. We threw half of it away.

Are here with others during a stay in Buxton. We got there an hour before closing but made to feel very welcome and had some amazing food. We were all very happy and looked after. Had a few drinks and laughed the night away. One of the staff poked her head out of the kitchen to say how it made her happy to hear us laughing and enjoying ourselves. My cousin Abel was so touched he cried on the way home..
