Lara Grill in Barking and Dagenham

Been few times to this restaurant since 2020 and most recently in December 2022 when it seemed renovated. Visited on 17/01/2025. You have to pay for parking at the Iceland car park which I was made aware of when I was seated which you previously did not need too. Was given the complimentary bread and the sauces - bread was not as good as other restaurants I’ve been too where you are also provided with hummus. Ordered the Lara Mix Grill and Chicken Beyti. The quality of the meat is very good here. The chips portion could be bigger as we did replace it instead of having the rice. Interior was nice but seating is cramped. Service was good despite it being loud.

We had a take away for the first time from this place. Chicken doner. Oh wow it was delicious, massive potion and really fancy packaging 😉

Apart from them forgetting about my chips- this place had excellent food. The donner and beyti was lovely. The kunefe wasnt really great but id definitely come back here for the mains. The place is really clean and nice interior, easy parking

I would not go back. To start with, an older looking woman that served us, seemed not bothered, fed up, behaved as though she was handing out free food, not a single sight of happiness. I have been to many Turkish restaurants, it's always been a pleasure to eat. Unfortunately, Lara Grill just did not meet the standards. Kunafeh was tasteless.

Atmosphere and cleanliness was spot on, 10/10, service was impeccable; staff are attentive and listen so orders are accurate and the food was amazing. The Lara special grill plater can easily feed 3 people unless your a hungry man then it will feed 2. Great tasting food around and fresh off of the grill. If you are celebrating a birthday it’s defo worth booking as they also sing their own version of hbd with you. Toilets are also clean and maintained.

Ordered online to collect. I think they were busy because food was not cooked properly and did not have as much taste as when I last ordered. Doubt I will eat here again. Disappointed as I have 4 other Turkish restaurants near me and chose this one

Great food and atmosphere. Fast service too. Lots of options for starter, mains and drinks however, very Limited dessert options and non alcoholic drinks.

Went to Lara grill as a party of three, it looks really nice and the food is presented well but the chicken was like eating tasteless rubber cubes. Nothing tasted of anything. Overpriced and disappointing food. I would take a meal deal from Tesco over their food. An to top it off I was sick two hours later.

Totally joke, they get the money after 15 minutes they give you back the money because can give you order only for eat in customer. This place become rubbish.

An honest take away review. After seeing numerous Instagram posts from the restaurant it looked amazing, so decided to try it Saturday night. Nice looking, busy place! Ok, the food we ordered the mixed grill, it has a different name in the shop, but it was £49.50!... while most things were very nice, it was lacking something...especially the lamb pieces...the seasoning just wansnt there, it was bland The portion sizes are WAY too small for the price....u hardly get any doner meat, the "mixed shish" its literally 2 cubes of chicken and 2 subs of lamb on one skewer.. The poussin was lovely, you get 4 wins which were decent. The chicken bety and kofte were again pretty small albeit tasty. The rice and home made breads were fantastic although you only get two small bread rolls... and nice sauces Chips massively overpriced, i think they charged me £6 for a large, and they were the thicker cut chips like a Chinese, nice though just over priced I spent 55.50 and whilst we all enjoyed it, it was overpriced for the portion sizes... glad we tried it, but can get much more value for money at our local kebab house

in 4 days they increase the price with 1 pound every each main course 1 pound on rice ? shame on you

Staff were amazingly accommodating in confirming the vegan options available. On this occasion as they'd ran out of vegan bread, the chef was kind enough to make it for me from scratch

Despite living close by we had never been to lara grill before…im not sure why because it was amazing. The food was cooked to perfection and the service was spectacular. Thankyou lara grill we will be coming more often! P.s get the cocktails!

I ordered food. When I was try to talk to staff about food and order their very rude over the phone. When I ask his name he said to me why you need my name and hang up. It’s horrible experience ever.

I ordered a drink, but unfortunately, I haven't had any. This is the second time that has happened.

Food has no quality and customer service is horrible and staff are really rude. Never want this horrendous experience.

On arrival I felt a little overwhelmed by the number of waitresses approaching me. They made comments a handful of times as I was waiting for the rest of my party to arrive. Mishap with tea - was told I pay for the first cup but unlimited free refills. Bill charged me for each refill. Had to dispute this and waitresses suddenly changed their attitude and became defensive. Overall was lovely food and atmosphere. When dessert came the waitress asked if I want to do it myself - I wasn’t aware of any theatrical part to my order so asked her to explain. She snatched the stuff off the plate and poured the syrup over and said “you just want me to do it”. That was a little off putting.

Food was not to bad but it was bit wired that if you take a take away you have to pay cash and table services you can pay by card. Do not make any sense.

Taste is okay But aluminum unhealthy

The food is very hit and miss. Some meats are amazing, soft and taste great others are tough and don't have basic seasoning like salt. Traditionally you are given complementary Turkish tea at the end of your meal but never happened here. The whole thing was a little disappointing based on the reviews.

What can I say I had a wonderful night great food, good atmosphere and great service

Tonight was around our 15th time visiting, but the first time in quite a few months. The meals are not as big as they used to be. The Sarma chicken beyti isn't as nicely presented as it was, and you get much less salad with the meals now, too. The dessert menu is now limited (no more tiramisu) and pretty expensive (some are as much as £11). It was a shame that they made no fuss for the birthday boy like you used to get, even though we put that it was his birthday on the booking. Service is still great, though. In summary, if you've not been here before, you'll enjoy it, but if you've been going for years like we have, you might be a bit disappointed.

My second visit sitting in. I ordered the platter for 2-3 persons, although I looked very greedy as I was by myself, but I am travelling up north after so I saved half for dinner later. But wasn't too impressed with the amount of salad it wasn't enough for 3.. because I was sitting by myself I got served a little bit of salad. Had to request for more red cabbage, also if they are selling this to feed up to 3 people I would suggest to give at least 3 pieces of both lamb chicken shish, as there were only 2 bits. So a third person wouldn't get any. Also I think it's a bit tight at least give us a skewer each as it's not cheap, but apart from that the food is absolutely delicious, and the chilli sauce is the best ive tried. Tsaeki could be improved for the £5 price tag. But definitely would come back it's the best Turkish restaurant around. I'd recommend this place. Service charge is approx 12.5 % I'm guessing because it's not on the bill as it should be stated on their bill in my opinion. Service itself wasn't bad I guess. No complaints.

Amazing food, attentive staff, phenomenal bread as a free starter

The food is delicious. We also had couscous and feta cheese as a starter but unfortunately we’re quite ravenous and at all before taking a photo. Quite pricey though for what it is, but food was very good.

Just had a birthday at this place and what an experience, from the quality, portion and promptness of the food, to the service from Tara (I think was her name) we were a group of 16, and she was organised in the order and ensured there were zero mistakes. It may sound strange but when she was clearing the table the way she managed the party of 16 was like there were two of her. Please promote her or give her a decent raise, because although your food is amazing, having service like hers is what made all the difference tonight. Thank yoy Lara Grill. Thoroughly recommend.

Great vibrant place with great food super Turkish tea and lovely atmosphere

Ordered on the phone the person speaking said bring Cash only and said there is a post office nearby. I have been to Lara Grill many times before and they take card but I said okay ill get the cash which was directed by the guy at the tills to go to the post office next to them. The post office ATM machine ran out of cash, I voiced this back and the person wanted evidence and proof to which I had to show a photo. The guy at the tills also insisted I go to Tesco and made weird remarks like 'we had customers just go there earlier so I dont get it'. If you keep sending customers to the ATM machine what do you expect? Lara grill need to put a ATM machine inside their shop since they are sending everyone to go post office to get cash by force. The guy at the till finally accepted a card payment. I then took my order and realised items were missing and still a bit confused if they wanted to charge extra as I had used a debit card sure go ahead. However taking items out is really low of a move. Definitely lost a customer who has come many times with friends and family.

I think one of cooks picks and chooses his customers whom he does not want to return !! The food was low quality, the adana beyti had half the size of a kebab that tasted awful, came with a tablespoon of yogurt and nothing else, no salad, the lamb dish was bulked out with bits of bread soaked in it !! no sparkling water added to my Mohito just the syrup !! We both were very disappointed I paid 60.00 and can eat better for that price in central London ! Me and 25 colleagues from work have just cancelled our booking for this terrible place !! Never again !

This restaurant came highly recommended by a colleague, so I had to give it a try. My extended family, a group of 20+ adults and kids, booked the restaurant for lunch. Upon arrival, we were given a private section of the restaurant. The service was excellent, and we were served warm bread with white cream sauce and chili sauce, followed by hummus and salad. We chose to order the platters, going for the two meaty feasts and the special. The food arrived piping hot and beautifully presented. The waitstaff checked on us every 5-10 minutes to ensure we had everything we needed. Both the food and the service were outstanding, so I had no hesitation in paying the 10-15% service charge added to the bill. Our total came to just over £300, and it was worth every penny. There are parking spaces available around the restaurant; if you're unsure where to park, just ask the staff, and they will guide you. The only downside was that the toilets didn't have the usual Mediterranean water hose. I would kindly request that a portable bottle be made available. Thank you!

As usual, we were looking for a place to eat that was open late. We had left the White Cliffs of Dover on our way to the Travelodge London Central. My son found the restaurant via his phone - such a wonderful treat. When we arrived, after what seemed like a lot of traveling from where we were at the time, we found an Iceland Store nearby that was still open, so we were able to first buy cold medicine. Then we went to the restaurant which was hopping. We got a table right away, led by an amazingly personable hostess. We chose an appetizer sampler to share that was so good, and we each enjoyed our entrees. Meanwhile, first one birthday was celebrated at the table next to us. All of a sudden, jumping Turkish music was played and everyone started clapping to it, followed by a round of Happy Birthday. This was repeated twice more while we were there. We had such a good time. The service was good, the food exceptional. If we are ever back in London, we will look forward to eating there again.

It's de second time I eat there and I really enjoyed. Have many options like meat, fish, chicken, vegetables and they are so kind.

I ordered take away today, it was very well packaged and the food was super tasty with a decent temperature. The food I ordered had a package of sweets in it, which I noticed later, I don't know if it was included in the ordered food or not. Anyway, the sweet was very tasty, but unfortunately I don't know its name. The hygiene of the restaurant is excellent and the staff are welcoming.

Service is sort of awkward but the food makes up for the lack of charisma of the wait staff.

The staff did not acknowledge me when I entered the restaurant. I said hello and no one responded, I waited a few minutes then another customer came in and got served before myself even though they could see I was waiting. I ordered chicken wings and asked for chips instead of rice I was charged extra which I don’t mind. Then the customer that came after me asked for chips instead and wasn’t charged extra. The put all the food in the container and didn’t even ask if I wanted any sauce on my chips. Overall terrible service, 1st and last time at Lara Grill

It's nice, a bit pricey but everywhere like this now. Less food, more money. Is what it is. Enjoy it was decent, not the best, but nice overall. Did take about 5 mins to get some drinks, which was a little funny since bottle water and bottle coke usually don't take long to take out the fridge. We bought a platter. Was good overall. No complaints. Just quantity to price.

Customer service was awful. Ask for play a birthday song for my son. Service staff place a condition that if we buy dessert then they can play, whereas we spent around £150. Staff are not friendly at all and seems not caring to the customer. Food taste is below average. Over expensive in respect of food, just ripped off your pocket. Strongly recommend not to go there to waste your time and money.

Always good food and lovely people

I went out as a group of 4 on a Friday evening, very disappointing to say the least. Service was very slow and once we had waited 2 hours for our food the chicken sheesh then arrived raw! The manager then refused to come over to our table to speak to us and instead sent the 1 waitress that was on shift that evening back and forth multiple times. I WILL NOT be returning to this restaurant, very poor!

The first time I came here it was so good, we spoke to the owner who said he will be retiring soon, the food was amazing and the restaurant totally packed! Went back for a second outing with the big group, was served by an older lady who seemed tired and fed up and everyone seemed to be terrified of her. The food was not good as the first time some of it was cold ? She had a bad attitude and, her face showed she was not happy, she snapped at us, snapped at other staff too. If you need a rest then take a rest, don’t ruin your customers occasion! More than likely will not be going back!

Took the family for lunch. Two little ones had a great time. They've got a children's menu as well which is a really good portion size. The staff were very attentive and friendly which is very important to me when taking children out for a meal. Food was delicious and plentiful.

The food was undercooked i asked for well done it was almost medium rare. When the waitress came i said the food was not good and undercooked, then the waitress made fun of the situation, aswell i was not compensated for it or even recieved an apology. Im not the one who leaves reviews or complains about food, but this was the worst experiance by far compaired. Save your palate and wallet from this place.

I had to rate this 5 star purely because of how spectacular the bread is. I do not like plain bread at all. But this homemade bread of yours... absolutely crazy. So soft and warm. A pillow in my mouth. The chicken wings were so delicious and juicy. Fed my cat some too. Thank you.

Lovely Turkish place, with good ambiance & humble staff.

The meat in the lara platter was delicious and juicy and a great pairing with tzatziki. The beef rice is great and their unlimited bread starters are always soft and warm. They were so hospitable and accommodating. We had an early evening dinner for a birthday and they helped us present the cake swiftly and in such a fun way. I appreciate the help in making my little sister's birthday a lovely meal. Thanks to the kindness of the lovely Sittara and the support of Emine, Maria; as well as the service of Nesi. I look forward to booking this place again for another gathering!
