Ley Inn in Chorley

Family friendly pub, ideal place for catch up. Food is good, plenty of choice on the menu, cater for gluten free, we visited over Christmas holidays and the food came out hot and all together. The salt and pepper chicken is highly recommended.

After many years visiting and spending hundreds of pounds. Tonight. New years. Myself, my partner and his friend came in for a drink. After waiting 30 minutes to be served. Only finally when I asked we were served. And seemed to be no problem. Until the male bar tender approached our table and accused one of us of threatening behaviour and swearing and threatened to kick us out. As we were shocked, we didn’t reply and he walked away. We were sat in the corner of the bar on a table. 20 mins later, two men came over to us and told us that we pointed in their faces sweared and demanded to be served. Then as we tried to voice what happened. We were told by an apparent member of staff that we have to go over and apologise. So we decided to leave.

Spent an absolute fortune on Christmas Day we got 3 courses tasteless , water in plastic jugs , no drink on arrival as promised , plated meals no side veg no gravy jugs , just on a plate 2 sprouts 2 pieces of turkey 2 roast potatoes carrots and a parsnip , the crackers were cheap , feel real let down and disappointed , Another family we came with were embarrassed, with the portion sizes as they had brought family who came from abroad , who ever organised the Christmas lunch ,we were served should be embarrassed , just lost 21 customers who spent a lot of money for a special occasion which was absolutely dreadful .

Great place to come to for a drink, however the food we had was awful. Everything was so greasy, chips were rock hard, fish was sloppy and soggy. Would return again but not for food!

The Christmas menu is on offer at this time of year, and as usual, the food is always very good. The staff are very friendly you can't go wrong at the Ley Inn.

Popped in for a meal Tuesday evening. The restaurant was booked out for a group but they had no issue with us ordering food in the bar. Ordered the salt & pepper chicken which came with half rice and half chips. The chips were spot on, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The rice was cooked to perfection. The chicken was tasty and the star of the show was the curry sauce. Really tasty. Highly recommended.

Everything is great about this pub..This is our 6th visit, It's a bit off the beaten track but well worth it. Food was lovely and there was plenty of it. We decided to have a pudding which was to die for but it was far to much for me and I didn't feel hungry all the next day. Will definitely be going back.

I haven’t eaten here for years and decided to try the Sunday roast. I wasn’t disappointed. Really enjoyed the meal and the to follow had the chocolate fondant. The staff were lovely and efficient and we’ll definitely go again

This is our local pub, the staff, the food and the atmosphere are always excellent! Caters for everyone! We have had loads of meals there, from 2 of us to our family Christmas do! We love it!

Ordered a “Premium” Hot dog with Chill allegedly, we booked for 2.15 we ordered straight away we waited for the food for 4 persons that didn’t appear till after 3pm. The Premium Hot Dog had a splattering of Chilli so I asked the waitress to see if they could place some Premium Chilli onto the Premium Hot Dog , she stated I would have to pay more, I asked for the Manager who came out and stated that the Chef “said no” and as the Manager she couldn’t sort the issue, I said ok I have asked and you have answered. Very poor food , the fries were cold, along with the “the luke warm dog” that was mostly a dried out finger bun, very unpleasant, as was Hanna’s attitude, Hanna was the person parading as the Manager she came across after I requested the Manager. Holly is the Manager allegedly who was upstairs and the staff were to worried about asking her down. So all in all 4 lost customers. Having just completed a Half Marathon

This is the fourth time we’ve had lunch here it’s absolutely fantastic and never lets us down, so much so that we always come here if we have visitors and want a reliable, cost friendly lunch with great service. This time I had the steak pudding it was delicious. Lovely outside area for drinks.

First visit in many years, unfortunately sure not we'd be rushing back. I didn't find the staff members very attentive at all, each time I ordered at the bar they continued their conversation with another staff member or with someone else at the bar, presumably a local. It seemed to be more of a drinking pub, with loud, sweary conversations. For a family with small children it wasn't enjoyable for us. On a brighter note, the food was very, very good and good portions. It just didn't tick all the boxes for us.

Came with friends. The food is delicious… the portions are massive! We had prawns as a starter which were amazing. Then I had a pie which was delicious. Great outside area too. Lovely for a sunny day

Visited here for food whilst staying at a Travelodge nearby. Really lovely food - had the new menu and was very impressed! Very good portions and value for money. All the team were really friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely lovely food here. Service was quick considering how busy it was! Catered for 28 people who was on our table booked day before (last minute 😂) + still managed to get us all in. Kitchen staff couldn't be bothered making 4 meals even though we were trying to place our order before their 8.00pm deadline. So they missed out on the income from 4 meals and 3 rounds of drinks. Glad they don't work for me - won't be going back.

Arrived here as part of a birthday party. They catered for around 28 of us which they did brilliantly! Albeit they missed a couple of meals, but they was soon sorted once notified. The food was amazing and tasty too!

Food is good here but I'm not a big eater at the moment (post-op) sister and niece enjoyed their meals

We visited with family, what a really nice place to eat, one of the best and tastiest meals we have had for a long time. We all had very nice meals and desserts, the food was excellent

Just tested the new menu, Worldwide tapas, brilliant idea. Different flavours from each continent and presented exemplary as usual.

We've only ever been for Sunday dinner, but tonight we tried the main menu. 2 of us had the fajita type things (I forget the proper name), and 2 had the lasagne. All top notch, home cooked deliciousness. We will be heading back soon to try more of the menu, which is vast, and I would eat nearly everything on it!

Came here today for a birthday celebration not the first time we have visited. The ley inn and on the previous visit the food was really good and served hot unfortunately on this occasion the food was only luke warm on arrival the three roast dinners were bland and very limited for the price just two roast potatoes a handful of veg no mash or new potatoes and a tiny splash of gray defiantly wouldn't recommend the roast dinner as have had much better else were ...the pub its self is a nice pub and has a nice outside beer garden with play area for the kids just a shame the food let it down today :(

Good food, good service, but I wasn't happy with getting "spray, canned" cream on my banoffi pie! Plenty of veg on the roast dinner and the meat was tender.

We have eaten here many times but haven't been in for about three months. Standards have dropped... think there was a new chef on ( I use the term "chef" loosely!)We both ordered a Sunday lunch. Looked nice but looks can be deceiving. The only hot thing on the plate was the gravy. I like my veg al dente, but the parsnip, cauliflower and broccoli was rock hard, and I couldn't taste any cheese sauce on the cauliflower. Don't get me started on the so called roast potatoes. The restaurant room was freezing cold, people were having to keep their coats on. And one couple who sat on the next table to us walked out before they even ordered because they felt so cold 🥶. Will not be going back in a hurry unless we hear that it has improved. It's a shame because when the main man is in the kitchen the food is so much better. But we work hard for our money and don't want to waste it on substandard food and service.

Came a few months ago. I had a burger and the husband had the steak pie. The meals were that good we ended up with half a pie and half a burger each 🤣 Really tasty food. Cant wait to come back soon ❤️

A busy Friday night but a warm welcome. Food was delicious and the beer was excellent. Nice surroundings, plenty of car parking space and the staff are friendly and helpful. Will go again.

Table of 8, one person got served and had finished eating before the rest of the party was served. The reason from the kitchen was they were not sure if all the mains were to come together. When the food did arrive it was well presented and tasty. Overall it was an ok visit but I will try elsewhere before returning

We were a party of 8 the food was good, but 1 meal came out & we waited a while before we said anything, so I asked the young server where the rest of the meals where ? She asked in the kitchen & side it would be 5 mins, so 1 more meal came out & we waited again, by the time the rest of the food came out ( in dribs & drabs) the first person had finished their meal, to be fair they did offer us a free desert, but not good, I'd rather wait a little longer & have all the food come out at the same time.. like I said the food was good.

Helpful staff, reasonable prices, beer garden and play area at the front. Very popular on a summer's evening. Good to call if out in Cuerden valley. Could be described as a bit dark inside in places but clean, comfortable and cosy in winter. There is a separate dining room as well as the pub area .

Clean and friendly service and environment. I had the steak and ale pie which was good but my meal was spoilt by the chips. The oil seemed to be strange tasting and has left me quite bilious, otherwise was fine.

HORRENDOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. We booked our Christmas lunch there & was told we would be contacted in regards to paying the deposit. No one had got in contact so we went in tonight for dinner & asked if they needed our deposit…to be told they hadn’t booked us in & could no longer accommodate us at the time we had booked. As we are unable to attend the earlier time they offered us, we are now without a restaurant to go to on Christmas Day. Absolutely unbelievable that no one had even told us. If we had waited any longer to be contacted we might have not been able to get booked in elsewhere. Shocking!! Not a single care in the world either. They couldn’t have cared less if they tried! Thank you for ruining 16 people’s Christmas Day. Because we were actually really excited to come to you for Christmas AGAIN, as this wasn’t our first time, but it’s certainly our last.

Nice roast and the meat was excellent. Would definitely visit again and nice to see the decor how it used to be with a homely feel. Might be worth mentioning when people order roasts if there is any extra cost for more gravy as there was a lot of checking when we asked.

It isn't often I write 2 reviews of the same place, but after our visit earlier this year, our large family group agreed to visit again. Just like the 1st visit, all our party agreed that the food was excellent. Last time, most of us had the Sunday lunch, but this time, most tried something different from the varied menu. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I had the best cheese and onion pie I've ever had for a pub lunch. It was delicious. And despite us all being full, we couldn't resist the puddings...the waffles and bannoffe pie were amazing. The service at the bar was great. All staff were happy and polite. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will return.

The Sunday lunch is absolutely amazing. All four of us had the mixed meat roast. We couldn’t fault it at all and there was literally nothing left on our plates! The deserts were delicious too. However, the service let it down. We waited for ages between courses. It’s such a shame because the food is amazing. Someone needs to sort the service out!

In all my 72 years I've never had a hot dog as bad as the one they served, the bun was burned, the sausage was over cooked and like leather to bite, the crispy onions were tasteless.

Went to ley Italian. Food was great, service equally as good, the only downside being a small location but if you like privacy that becomes an upside. As a measure of my feelings, there is absolutely no doubt I will return soon

I have visited the Restaurant on several occasions and the food has always been good. Sometimes on occasions we have had to wait over an hour for food even though there hasn’t been many people in the Restaurant. I have noticed that the kitchen also caters for customers in the Pub so you do see several meals being taken through to the Pub area whilst you are waiting a long time for your meals. On Saturday the 23rd of September, I ordered the chicken skewer. Unfortunately it looked undercooked and the meat was tough with pink stringy bits in it. I asked if the Chef could have a look at it. The meal was brought back to me and I was told that the Chef said that the chicken is cooked properly, therefore I understood that to mean that they weren’t prepared to exchange it. I was very polite and I said that I couldn’t eat it. The waiter said he would speak to the Chef again to ask if the meal could be exchanged. He came back and said that they would cook another one but was I happy to wait 10 to 15 minutes? I replied, it wasn’t a problem for me. However I ended up having to wait 40 minutes by which time all of our table had finished eating their meals. I wasn’t very impressed. Although everybody else’s food on our table was fine, unfortunately mine wasn’t. The second plate of food had a lot of oil in the peppers and onions. I didn’t want to cause a fuss so I just said it was fine. None of our family wants to visit again. I wonder what has happened to ‘The Customer is always right’ The food should have been changed right away without question.

Phoned Hollie, if there was a table in the restaurant, it was late, but it wasn't a problem. There was three of us and as we entered we were directed by Hollie to our table. Mark came over for our order for the food and drinks and recommended a white wine, which was spot on. We didn't wait long to be served with our food. All I can say that it was all piping hot and delicious! I have never had such a brilliant pie, the cock and bull, how apt, but the autumn menu will be out shortly and that pie might not be on it, such a shame. Keep doing what do and we will definitely be back. Thanks to Hollie and Mark for looking after us, nothing was too much trouble. Regards Brian, Marie and Patricia.

Visited The Ley today in Clayton le Woods with my wife for lunch after it came highly recommended by some of my wife's work collegues. As always when trying somewhere new we took a look at the online menu on the pubs website before visiting to give us an idea of the range of dishes that they offer and liking what we saw we headed out to The Ley more or less already having deciding what we would be having (or so we thought) and looked forward to our visit with anticipation. However upon on arrival we were directed to some in house menus at the end of the bar and after choosing somewhere to sit we were suprised upon opening them to find that half of the dishes advertised online (and unfortunately for us also the dishes that we had mentally chosen) were not on the in house menu and of those that still were differed in price making them more expensive. Luckily for us we hadn't ordered any drinks at this point so we just simply got up and walked out without having paid them a penny as besides feeling gaslighted and notwithstanding the price increase, the choice on the in house menu is poor to be honest when compared to the one online and had the the online menu been correctly advertised we would have given The Ley a miss and gone elsewhere instead. Since our disappointing visit earlier today I have read another review made on the '4th of August' also complaining about the discrepancy between the online and in house menus and the owners response was "We are having some troubles with changing our menus on our website however, we are trying to work as quickly as possible to amend it! " As I write this review it is the '13th of September' and still the owners haven't got round to sorting this problem out it seems which frankly isn't good enough when potential customers like ourselves have travelled a considerable way to visit them having been drawn in, as have others by an incorrect online menu and pricings which they are very much aware of. However on the plus side the bar staff were courteous enough and politely thanked us as we left but never enquired as to why after viewing the in house menu we had decided to leave without ordering any food or drinks.

Poor quality food for the price. Everything was too salty, dried and overcooked. No table number when you order food. No cutlery or serviettes on the tables. Dirty tables. Uninterested staff who couldn't be bothered. Loud drunken locals crowding the bar area. And as the last reviewer said menu completely different from website

My biggest issue was that on the website the menu was totally different to the menu we were given. Virtually no Vegan option had we known this we would not have gone. The service was appalling, had to ask for cutlery and serviettes. My burger had been Cooked within an inch of its life, my daughters kebab, albeit she liked it, the chicken was not charred it looked like it had been boiled, dreadful for the price. So coffee, i asked if they did a flat white, “don’t know” ask the chef “he won’t know” seriously! Needless to say we will not be returning.

A lovely quaint little pub tucked away, with a cracking beer garden, good selection of ales, ciders, drinks. Cracking food... Dog friendly, with an outside tap to fill up their bowls with fresh water for those sunny days. 😀👍🏻 A good friendly atmosphere..
