This bakery has some of the nicest and most helpful staff I’ve encountered in Gail’s branches as they go out of their way to ensure a great experience.. always welcoming customers with a smile. I’ve noticed that not every customer shared the same experience of mine as it may depends on the situation.. but these people work so hard and my personal experience has been nothing but positive. Plus, the pastries and bread are always fresh and delicious!

Ayushi so lovely from when I first walked in. Then when I made a mistake with my order Ayushi helped me sort it all out and was super generous and kind. The bread was perfect as was my latte

I’ve visited GAIL’s Bakery in Spitalfields several times, and while the coffee is nice, the customer service has been persistently disappointing. Every staff member I’ve encountered appears disinterested, unfriendly, and unwelcoming, creating a cold and uninviting atmosphere. It’s unfortunate because I am will not buy coffee from here again. Management should consider investing in comprehensive customer service training to improve the experience for loyal customers like myself.

Today, I visited Gail’s coffee shop, I wanted to grab a quick tea, I approached the till to place my order, but instead of being allowed to do so and proceed to the barista, I was directed to join the queue with customers purchasing pastries. While I understand the need for systems, this approach felt inconsiderate for customers like me who only wanted a simple drink without additional items. It would have been much more efficient to take my tea order at the till and let me wait by the barista rather than queue unnecessarily. I value good service and efficiency, and unfortunately, this experience fell short. I hope Gail’s considers a more thoughtful process for handling straightforward drink orders to improve the experience for all customers.

The staff here specialise in ignoring customers so you either have to wait indefinitely or leave after 20 minutes without being served.

Simply delicious! While we stayed in a hotel nearby, it became our breakfast destination.

The main issue with this bakery is the consistently poor service across multiple branches. The staff often appear unfriendly and unwelcoming. During my visit, I asked to switch an item I had already paid for after realizing it contained an ingredient I’m allergic to. The staff member got upset, threw the sandwich behind her, and spoke to me in a harsh tone. It’s unfortunate because the bakery itself is exceptional—the coffee is amazing, and the baked goods are absolutely delicious. However, the terrible service really takes away from the overall experience. It’s disappointing for such a great place to have such poor customer service.

I would give 5 stars but you really need to get your bread slicer fixed… it’s been months and I have to go elsewhere for my bread now and it’s a shame.

Something changed today at gail's in Spitalfields! Usually I would have given a 2stars on the food because the bread was ALWAYS dry and the buns or panini barely filled. Today, at lunch time, during the pick, I had the best chicken bun, fantastic iced coffee and specially good service. The bread was fresh, the chicken and salad were the correct portion for what it cost! Thank you to the lady that made me sign to the app. Please stay this fresh :)

Dropped in for my favorite cinnamon bun (£3.60). Gail’s at Spitalfields is very nice and the staff are friendly and served with smiles.

Very nice place to duck in for a warm drink and something sweet. The matcha is so good. Especially great was the amazing service from Anik - he was so warm and friendly, with a super helpful disposition and a great sense of humour. I was really appreciative of the atmosphere in the place due to how nice the staff were, and especially people like Anik would make me come back to Gails despite all the amazing offerings in the area

Lovely place, coming here every morning but the organisation of staff is just unbelievable. There is only one person making coffee and 4-5 wondering around and sometimes taking orders when there is a queue of 20+ people.

Delicious food and nice atmosphere!

I like Gail's a lot in general, and since this is my local one, I come here often. There was a rude blonde manager who I do not think is still there, which is great! She once forgot about my order and when I politely asked about it (after having waited for 15 mins), she told me : 'We're not McDonald's' instead of just admitting she'd forgotten about it! Other than that, I do like this place a lot, the pastries and sourdough are yummy! So are the hot drinks. The staff are also very nice - with the one exception mentioned above:) The young English guy with dark, short hair, is particularly warm and welcoming every time I come in! Such customer service is so so important! Things I don't like: avocado on sourdough is clearly not a very fresh avocado (they have it stored in a plastic pot) - also no poached eggs. No cash payments.

I went few times today to buy some food for my colleagues at work. The options are poor if you have not tolerance to dairy or you are vegan. Some of them could not get anything because of their intolerance. Really disapointing find places with not options for everyone in 2024. Hope you improve your food options soon.

Anik was extremely helpful and polite when I picked up my too good to go order.

Anik was such a lovely host. Not only did he make me excited about the daily soup — he even offered me two cups of soup because they were closing soon. He was so professional, kind, and friendly! I hope he was the manager because he has all the qualities that a manager should have!

Gail’s is always my fave cafe around liv street. Good food and drinks but even better staff. Anik who took my order was particulalry helpful and very friendly. Too notch service. An asset to the Gail’s brand.

I love this chain, it has great food options and coffee/cappuccino are really good. Staff at this branch in Spitalfields are welcoming and polite, we enjoyed our breakfast there!

Stopped in for something sweet and an espresso. I got a chocolate muffin and it was fantastic! My espresso was very good as well. I've seen many reviews that say bad service. Perhaps that's true sometimes, but in my experience, the service was very good. Quick and friendly is what I received.

I am a regular customer at this shop and have to say the service is amazing. All staff are friendly and happy to help. Especially Alima who was super helpful with every question I threw their way, they helped me decide on what drink to get and made it perfectly and hit the spot. That iced chai I had today made me want to return later and buy 5. Alima was lovely and a great barista.

Went here for some bread, it was decent enough bread, the real highlight of my visit was the barista on duty, Alima, who really helped in choosing which bread product I should purchase, they really helped me understand which bread was right for me

I visited on a Saturday morning and after much deliberation and suggestions from the barista I bought an oat iced latte, it was really nice and the barista Alima was really friendly!

The Barista, Alima, serving me my latte made me a drink that single handedly altered my brain chemistry and I will now be a regular

I popped in quickly a few days ago as I needed a caffeine fix and the barista there Alima was outstanding, not only was the coffee great but the friendly face and the warm atmosphere they created was wonderful 11/10 I will return! :)

Gail's is definitely my favourite coffee shop and this branch is amongst the best. Big thank you to Luke who, despite being relatively new, made me the best latte I've ever had in my life. And I mean that literally. Perfect temperature, taste and texture.

The flourless chocolate cake was divine. It is a tad small, but was extremely satisfying. It was raining, and all the tables inside were taken. That would be the main downside. The guy at the counter was great. Excellent location by the market. Love the quality of Gail's. I used to buy their chocolate loaf from ocado. It was the best. Unfortunately they don't make it any more. Their breads were also my favourite. I had been thinking about buying a birthday cake from there, but they don't do them. The app is brilliant and the freebies make my day. Definitely worth downloading. I used to go to Gail's in the past, but haven't been in ages. I'm glad I have started going again. I'm tempted to try the madeleines, but maybe just one rather than 10. :p perhaps when I'm going to someone's place, I can bring some.

I have been there yesterday morning and I had an amazing breakfast ! Cinnamon buns it was one of my favourite ones! Staff very friendly and Rocio it was very nice with us in all service making sure to have the best service. The shop was looking very clean and organise when even it was very busy. Shocking service, have tried it a few times as work locally and have been let down on too many occasions, cold food, long waiting times, forgotten orders, wrong orders… just painful. Update: really not sure why went back again… so serves me right but asked for a porridge with the date syrup in (on the menu) and the person serving me got it out the fridge to check that’s what I wanted and I confirmed… then when back at my desk I realise she totally forgot to even put any in. Sigh.

Experienced such a rude and unwelcoming lady who took our order, didn't understand the attitude she was giving. Was totally not necessary, in fact i was hoping not to have her take my order after seeing how she treated an elderly man just before me. I've experienced some unfriendly staff in my time, but still managed to fake smile at the very least. This particular woman couldn't have been bothered, she must've felt like she was doing me a favor by taking my order. Having read other reviews, about ride staff and how the template reply is from management. My guess is they couldn't be bothered to make any changes, all the best GAIL's Also : The ice latte i ordered had curdled milk in it, when i asked the barista if this was normal she said "oh yeah it's from the cream, but i can make a new one for you" why offer to make a new one for me if it was actually fine? Maybe in fact because it was off to begin with?

Unfortunately I had food poisoning after having a parmesan chicken sandwich, apple juice, flat white and pistachio cake.

Very happy with the service, Giulia was wonderful, she helped us a lot because we did not understand English and between Italian and Spanish it was easy, she recommended the best for breakfast, a delicious chocolate and almond croissant that was tremendously delicious, fresh out of the oven just like the boyo of cinnamon, without words!! Thank you Giulia for being so professional and friendly and for helping us and recommending us not only what to have breakfast but how to get around the area!! 10 out of 10

My favourite Gail’s in London! Staff are so friendly, I was served by the loveliest young girl on Sunday. Me and my child shared the best ham & cheese croissant, will definitely be back for another this weekend.

Being vegan I was pleasantly surprised with the plant based options that were on offer. I was served by a very enthusiastic server, Rocio. She recommended the crispy challah sandwich and the hazelnut and chocolate bun, both were delicious and very different to what is on offer in other establishments. My friend was absolutely spoilt for choice, everything looked amazing and the display was incredible. Can’t wait to go back!!

As a completely normal and not-at-all-biased regular customer of this establishment, I must say that I am very excited to share my long awaited review of Gail's in Old Spitalfields Market. The bakery exudes an air of opulence, frivolity and excess. The star of the show here have to be the infamous Cinnamon Buns (£3.60 a piece) that are to die for (quite literally with 35 grams of sugar each!) alongside other equally priced handmade pastries including Croissants, Pain Au Chocolates, Scones and more. The cakes are also a sight to behold, and by "behold" I mean "wonder how many hours on the treadmill it would take to burn off one piece." But hey, who's counting when you're enjoying these exquisite treats! Some of my favourite sweets are the Blueberry & Custard Brioche, Chocolate Hazelnut Buns and the Pistachio Lemon & Rose cakes. Yes, they are very much on the more costly side and serve as a reminder of the stark economic disparities perpetuated by the capitalist system, but when you consider the quality of the products and the charming ambiance of the bakery, you'll reassure yourself that good things don't come cheap, right?! Let's not forget the sandwiches and savories, including the very popular Parmesan Chicken, Mozzarella & Pesto Focaccia or the Smoked Salmon bagel, which are all priced as if they were personally handmade by the Queen herself. But fear not, dear customers, because the price is totally worth it. After all, you're not just paying for a sandwich, you're paying to indulge in fleeting moments of bliss, all while distracting yourself from the materialistic dissatisfaction and emptiness that pervades our society which this establishment upholds. The barista-made coffee (there is espresso based or filter) and whole leaf teas are like liquid gold, and the fact that they cost an arm and a leg just makes them taste even better. Oat and Soya milk are available for just 40p extra, catering to vegans and anyone who wishes to avoid dairy and to further entrench the oppressive power dynamics that define our society. Who needs financial stability when you can have a perfectly brewed cup of caffeine to keep you awake as a replacement for a good nights sleep as the relentless forces of time march on!! To conclude, as a non-employee customer who definitely didn't write this review under duress, I wholeheartedly recommend this this bakery for anyone who appreciates fine baked goods and a top-notch cup of coffee or tea. I may or may not have been coerced into leaving this review, but I assure you, my praise is genuine. So come on down to Gail's in Old Spitalfields Market, just around the corner from Liverpool Street Station, and treat yourself to a little indulgence. You won't regret it!

Regular customer for the last year. Excellent quality and plenty of variety of bred and pastries. But above all, Rocio and her team always welcome you 'wearing a smile' and paying attention to detail. A place highly recommended in Spitalfields.

I keep hoping it will get better here. Have been coming to this place for ages and I think I have now given up hope. The customer service puts me off so much. Went to the one is South Woodford and that was a dream compared to this place. I only go when I am desperate. Also I book my order in advance and they still get confused about it. I work in retail and customer service, and have done so for 20 years, so I know what servers have to go through and tried to be as compassionate as possible. EDIT (11/04/24): I've started collecting from Southbank and they are lovely!

Good service, usual Gail’s standard. Decent to go borek and cinnamon bun/roll. Wouldn’t buy sourdough here though. The reviews are all expecting an artisan bakery, this is a chain… grab and go convenience for me when walking the dog.

Lots of frozen dough products or frozen puff pastry with a LOT of sugar, but also avocado and salmon sandwiches. However, I would encourage them to sell fewer but higher quality products instead of frozen by the kg to give the impression of full shelves

Appalling Manager at this branch: Pay and F-off or you get shouted at! Visited this branch recently to grab some breakfast and do some work. I initially spent ~£8 on a cake and iced latte and an about 20min later bought another cake at around £4.5 (the first one was actually a bit stale and not as nice as I thought). The waiting queue and speed of service was good and I grabbed a table to eat and do some personal work on my laptop. As soon as I’d finish eating or drinking something a member of staff would came over promptly to clear the empty plate/cup - a bit too efficient and unnerving but understandable. This made my table completely empty of any Gail’s crockery or plastic cup. However, having been there for no more than 1h (from the moment I stepped in the shop), the manager comes over shouting that if I’m not consuming anything I need to go and that tables are for customers. I explained that I had spent nearly £15 already and that staff had cleared it away, to which she kept whinging out loud that they were busy and needed the table. This was awful in many ways! Firstly, it’s humiliating being shouted out loud in public making other patrons look at you; secondly, I had consumed £15 which is a decent value per head for a coffee shop; thirdly people on the table next to me had arrived and finished their drinks before I sat down and were still just chatting by the time I was shouted at, however, they didn’t get asked to leave, making me believe the problem is me being on my own. I have never in my life have been treated like the manager from Spitalfields treated me and I’m in absolute shock that this is acceptable customer service for her. It’s clear that for her (and Gail’s?) customers are just cash cows and customer experience means nothing. The food is overpriced as it is, if the customer service is this bad there's no way customers will keep coming back. I certainly won't.

Cute place for a coffee and bakery item! I ordered an iced latte and a cinnamon bun. The cinnamon bun was served room temp (which was actually kinda cold)! The latte was flavored with honey and perfect! Unfortunately, there wasn’t seating inside so we had to sit outside in the rain. I am glad to see the cafe busy but maybe adding some umbrellas outside would be great - since it rains a lot! Overall, I would return and give it another go! Maybe do carry out instead! Clean cafe, nice service, and cute branding.

Worst Gails in London, dirty customer area, rude staff, no communication on what’s fridge cold before ordering. Terrible staff attitude from the ladies that take your orders and it creates an unwelcoming experience.

Its very disconsiderate toward your employees not allowing them to get tips. I asked if I can tip if I pay by card and the barista said no, then I wanted to pay cash with tips included and you dont accept cash. I havent seen a tip jar either (decent cafes have either a physical tip jar or an electronic one). How much you pay per hour? Do you pay living wage for London?

Ottima bakery dove fare una colazione veloce o mangiare un panino per pranzo. L'ambiente è accogliente anche se non ci sono tanti tavoli a disposizione all'interno. All'esterno, che si affaccia sull'ingresso del mercato coperto, ha parecchi tavolini dove accomodarsi. Solitamente c'è una bella fila che arriva fino all'esterno ma si dipana velocemente.
