Me and my wife have been to the Lord Poulett twice relatively recently. We both have really enjoyed our meals. Very tasty food from local suppliers. Menu changes frequently. The service is always excellent and with a smile. Great ales on tap and a good selection of wines. Open wood fire burning in the middle of the pub. A very charming and cosy upmarket country pub.

This is the best meal I have had in a pub, maybe ever. We were late turning up for our table due to an extended and exceptionally boggy walk and had phoned ahead to warn of our short (10 minute) delay. We were greeted with a cheery ‘no problem, see you shortly’. The pub is traditional and so warm and welcoming with a roaring open fire which serves two rooms. A welcome sight after a long walk with kids and a dog. The service was faultless and our waitresses were all chatty, smiling and accommodating. The food was exceptional. We only had main courses and puddings but we were all delighted. My husband ordered the ham hock pie and he said ‘If a pie could possibly be any better, I am not sure how…. I think that is the best pie I have ever had’. The skillet cookies with ice cream were incredible as the stand out pudding. We don’t eat out much, as we are a family who loves cooking and often we feel that the quality that you pay for in restaurants is not worth it. This does not apply to the Lord Poulett Arms. It was worth every penny and we will definitely be back.

We’ve been coming here for meals over the past six years and have always enjoyed fantastic food. Since we live a fair distance away, we decided to book an overnight stay this time. We arrived at lunchtime and treated ourselves to a Sunday roast. We both had the locally sourced roast beef and - wow – it was absolutely superb! Honestly, we agreed that it was the best roast we have ever had - with a lovely selection of accompanying vegetables (including cauliflower cheese), as well. Service from the friendly staff was exceptional. Our spacious room was warm, comfortable and inviting. There was high quality tea and coffee and we were delighted to receive a bag of homemade shortbread as a thoughtful welcome gift. In the evening, we headed down to the bar, where the staff and the locals were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Breakfast the next morning was just as impressive, with a great selection of fresh fruits, yogurts, pastries, and a high-quality cooked breakfast. My partner (a bit of a coffee connoisseur) had several lattes during our stay and she was impressed with how consistently well-made they all were. We can’t recommend this historic pub with rooms highly enough – we’ve already decided to book Sunday lunch and an overnight stay again for next year.

My husband and I visited today Sun and chose as on the menu the Rare Roasted Rump. What we received was 3 very small thin slices of very over cooked tough almost inedible beef in a thin gruel alongside an overcooked yorkshire pudding stuffed with a beef stew - very strange and a cauli served in a thin white sauce ( I think they forgot to put the cheese in) the rest of the vegetables of red cabbage, undercooked kale and carrot & swede mash alongside roast potatoes were just acceptable. When I pointed out to the waitress that the beef was overcooked, she said it was rare until it had gravy put on it. I did make a comment to her about knowing the difference. At £23 for a 1 course Sunday lunch this is very over priced and totally unacceptable. The place needs a person who can cook and can tell the difference between Rare and over done. They then add the audacity to add 12.5% service charge which quite naturally I had removed. This is not a reflection on the serving staff who had to serve this rubbish but on the meal itself. Don't waste your money on this place with its over inflated prices on menu.

It is sometimes the case that we only see the true colours of people when things a bit out of the ordinary come along. I arrived at LPA after my car had just had problems, and I was stressed whilst figuring out what to do. From the moment they met me, the whole staff understood - dinner reservation became flexi around the arrival of the AA, room checkout the next day became flexi whilst I figured out what to do with an 'undriveable' car in order to get it back to Surrey. The wrap-around care from staff was exceptional! The room was gorgeous and the food first-rate. I hope to return to enjoy it all when I am less bothered!

OK - so it was Sunday evening and it was the end of a day that celebrated their ‘boules finale 2024’ but our dinner was more than disappointing. A very restricted evening menu usually heralds excellent food. Not in this case. Cauliflower steak was dry and not fully realised according to the menu description. A chocolate fondant that was overcooked and oozed no promise at all. Choux pastry that didn’t exist. It may be a good award winning pub generally, just not on that night. And not good value for the quite pricey unremarkable dishes. The garlic chips were fantastic, but that’s just chips.

We were there for one night to break up the journey from London to Cornwall and experienced: - Very easy parking right outside - An incredibly friendly and warm welcome - Superb food, genuinely the best I’ve ever had in a pub, this was 1 star Michelin quality at tied pub prices. - Excellent selection of drinks, including the pub’s own ale and lots of local specialties like cider brandy. - A large, beautiful pub garden. - A fantastic after breakfast walk right from the front door, taking in some lovely countryside and apparently England’s widest oak tree. (Muddy - take boots or wellies!) - A great night’s sleep in a lovely room with a great free standing roll top bath. Don’t bother with Cornwall, stay in Somerset. Stay here.

No mini fridge but they give you a little flask of milk to have your tea or coffee in the room. The village is lovely, good for a stroll around. They have two types of food on the dinner menu, one is typical pub fare, the other a bit more experimental. The menu is not that big as you get in some places, but we like that. Lovely characterful building. Alas the food was not as good as it used to be - the menu was very restricted and unimaginative, there were no specials, the pork loin was tough and expensive (and partnered with a blob of mash and limp tenderstem broccoli) and the "homemade sourdough" was suspiciously uniform in shape, looked like sliced bread and in taste bore no resemblance to any sourdough I've ever had or made. The prices remain high for indifferent and lacklustre pub dining. I won't be recommending it or going back any time soon.

This is still an attractive building in an attractive village. Alas, though the food used to be very good this is no longer the case. The menu is now very restricted, compared to how it was until recently, so I assume a change of chef or management. Fish and chips was dreadful - a bit of hake encased in a coffin of hard batter which felt as if it had been drying out in the oven for some time, and chips that were far too salty. 'Scampi' was another bit of hake in an even harder batter - crustaceans nowhere to be seen.

The room (number 6) was lovely and cosy with a roll-top bath and the food in the restaurant was excellent. I stupidly left my laptop behind in the bedside drawers, but it was found by Julie in housekeeping and kept safe until I collected it earlier today. I'd recommend The Lord Poulett Arms if you're looking for a welcoming base to explore Somerset. We'll definitely return (but I'll leave my laptop at home next time!)

Unbelievable food, drinks and service. The price was absolutely fine for the quality of everything during our experience. Will 100% be back!

-Food: All absolutely delicious, and presented very nicely. It was clear from the first bite that the produce used is of very high quality. Would highly recommend the Scotch egg!!! -Staff: Very friendly and attentive, made us feel very welcome and looked after. Food arrived in good time considering it was a full house. -Atmosphere: Restaurant was very cosy and nicely decorated, it was the perfect place to go for lunch on a cold winters’ day.

Had a lovely meal here, but when it came to dessert it took 30minutes for a menu to arrive, by which point we had to start heading off. No facilities for changing babies or disabled loos even.

Recently had a meal here to celebrate my 30th, on arrival there was a sign wishing me a happy birthday! (Thought this was a touch of class!) then to be taken to our table where there was a card from the staff to wish a happy birthday!! This was very thoughtful and genuinely very much appreciated. The staff were prompt, kind and very accommodation for myself my wife and my daughter, making us all feel very welcome. The chef (Connor) came out and made such an effort with our daughter that he even made up a plate of broccoli for her … to us this meant so much! Now on to the FOOD!! Nothing shy of incredible! Honestly I would put it down to be one of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Value for money I would say it hits the nail on the head for an all around experience. If I could rate it more than 5 I would!!

We have stayed here many times and it is still as good as ever! Very friendly and helpful staff and the dinner was fantastic, thoroughly recommend the cookie dessert! Despite being very busy indeed with quiz night, we were made to feel very welcome and John as quiz master was hilarious ! Keep up the good work !!

Not having been since the previous owners had it I wasn’t sure what I would find. The man with the colourful shirt had great personality , welcoming, thoughtful ( providing crayons/colouring for the children without being asked) we had the Freckles! Chilli chicken , amazing scotch eggs for starters - followed by chicken roast, tender chicken amazing roast potatoes , tasty bouncy Yorkshire puds great veg, one of us had lamb - again perfectly cooked. We forced down desserts and managed after champagne and sav blanc to get out the door! Great place with friendly staff fab food we will be back soon!

Disappointed. There were two dishes unavailable from the menu, which does not offer a lot of choice anyhow. It was not very busy, but the service was very slow.( over half an hour for mains to appear....) And it was very cold , no central heating and the central fire is useless. My fish was definitely frozen, so it was watery and tasteless. Far too many chips. The only positive was that the girls were helpful and charming. My colleagues like to meet here because it's convenient. We have been coming for years. But I'm afraid it's no longer the place it was. It now lackd that personal touch, and has become corporate.
