Pizza was poor not what I would expect the base not authentic pizza base . Spaghetti carbonara same poor as of spaghetti sprinkled with a little cheese . Tomato and onion side salad where was it portion so small I wouldn’t have bothered,never again . Went to an Italian in Baslow just a week later portions up to three times in side and quality

Been coming here for many years and always come away happy. Friendly staff, relaxed pace, cosy in some parts of restaurant but a very nice atmosphere for a tasty Italian meal. You can tell time and care has been taken to prepare the delicious food. Wine always good. We will definitely return with family as Marco Polo is child friendly and has plenty of menu choice.

Excellent, easy access, very helpful, friendly and kind staff . The food was incredible, amazing pizzas, and they were happy to box it up for me when I had to leave .

Esta fue mi primera vez probando Marco Polo y me impresionó mucho la comida. El servicio era bueno dado que era un lunes por la noche bastante ocupado. Nuestro grupo compartió un Pan de Ajo con Queso y Cebolla Roja y algunos Pieles de Patata - ambos eran encantadores. Y tuve la Penne Arribbiata con Pollo para la comida principal que fue una de las mejores que he tenido.

Mi hija y yo visitamos el sábado antes de comenzar nuestras compras de Navidad. No he estado aquí por muchos años y no me decepcionó. El restaurante es precioso por dentro y tenía un ambiente frío y acogedor de Navidad. El personal era encantador, la comida tomó un poco más de lo que nos dijeron, pero valió la pena la espera. Buena comida de calidad. Dos por 13 libras. 50 cócteles eran geniales también. Me encanta el hecho de que en realidad tienen “cuchillos afilados” en la mesa. Hace que cortar pizzas sea mucho más fácil. Sí que ponen un cargo por servicio del 10% pero puedes pedir que se quite como hice yo y dejar una propina que elijas (si quieres).

We went in for a table of 6 and were accommodated with no bother whatsoever. The food at atmosphere were brilliant. My only gripe (might be my age) was the service charge. I prefer the option to tip rather the automatic inclusion. I know you can ask for it to be removed.

Este restaurante nunca decepciona cada vez que visitamos. Acogedor por el personal amable y que se extiende sobre el servicio completo. Feliz de ayudar a la actitud y respondió a cualquier pregunta que tuvimos. Increíble ubicación justo en el corazón de NCL junto con un interior moderno a juego. El menú es increíble con una buena gama de opciones. De hecho, optamos por la opción pre teatro que nos dio 2 - 3 cursos por un precio muy razonable. Recomiendo 100% esto como su relación calidad-precio con la increíble comida fresca que se obtiene. Teníamos las albóndigas y el entrante de humus y bruschetta de hongos. Fresco y sabroso. Las albóndigas se cocinaron perfectamente. Para el plato principal de la temporada con puré de ajo. Un poco de patatas fritas y verduras de temporada. Las patatas fritas bonitas y esponjosas por dentro y crujientes por fuera. Lamentablemente, las verduras como las judías verdes estaban un poco demasiado cocidas. La pizza con jamón Param y glaseado balsámico llegó al punto. Cocinado bien por debajo con una corteza perfecta y un sabor de pizza adecuado. Luego, por supuesto, el famoso tiramisú que no puedo pasar sin pedir. Gran tamaño de porción, gran precio, muy sabroso con la cantidad perfecta de capas y coberturas de chocolate

I can’t fault this place. From the moment we walked in (with no table reservation) to the moment we left, we were treated well. The food was good and we cleaned our plates! My husband had fettuccine beef ragu from the signature pasta options. I had lasagne. Both were delicious. We also had a mixed salad which was fresh and tasty. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. Lots of families. Would recommend.

Reservado aquí para nuestro viaje a Newcastle después de que nos vino muy recomendable. Desafortunadamente, nuestra experiencia no fue genial. Teníamos una mesa reservada con antelación y llegamos a tiempo, sin embargo tuvimos que esperar 25 minutos antes de sentarnos a pesar de que la gente que llegaba después de nosotros consiguió sus mesas de inmediato. Cuando finalmente llegamos a nuestra mesa, solo entonces se nos dijo que la espera para la comida sería de al menos media hora. Pedí los espaguetis boloñeses - lo que había estado esperando todo el día - solo para que me dijeran que no quedaba ninguno! Si nos hubieran dicho a la llegada que la comida sería tan larga de una espera y no había boloñesa, no nos habríamos quedado. Pero después de esperar tanto tiempo para estar sentados y ya pedir bebidas, lo aguantamos y me decidí por una pizza. Luego esperamos 50 minutos para que llegara nuestra comida! ¡Por una pizza y una carbonara! La pizza era robusta y llena de grasa y no comestible. Era como una pizza de kebab, y la carbonara de mi compañero tenía tocino duro como una roca/panceta que era lo suficientemente difícil como para romper un diente. El servicio y la atención tampoco fueron geniales. Nuestra camarera no se fijó en nosotros, y la mesa de al lado se olvidó por completo - tuvieron que marcar a la camarera para pedirle que tomara su orden de comida, ya que habían estado sentados durante casi una hora, ¡solo se tomó su orden de bebidas! Terrible. Sí nos quejamos a otra camarera y la pizza se eliminó de la cuenta, que era apreciado. Luego pagamos a regañadientes el resto de la cuenta y nos fuimos, pero nos sentimos realmente decepcionados con lo que se suponía que iba a ser una comida encantadora durante nuestro tiempo en Newcastle.

Lovely place and they fitted in a table of 7 without bother . I have a spaghetti with asparagus and courgettes and it was really tasty . My friends said their carbonara was a bit salty . Nice place and good choices on the menu . Attentive service .

A very long standing Newcastle favorite which still offers good value food and friendly service. Can cater for large groups and has a few interesting beers as well as the usual. Not the pinicle of dinning, but for a casual quiet night out it's still a good choice.

Had a birthday celebration with work colleagues. Thirty of us and food all delivered at same time. Quality of food amazing. Would go there again.

We had a brilliant meal here and the staff were so helpful and friendly. We had the garlic bread and potato skins which were lovely and not too filling and then pasta which was unreal. They were so helpful about letting us swap the shape of pasta we had and the two for one cocktails were amazing, the margarita was insane

We went late on an evening but were still greeted by friendly staff. Everyone we spoke to was really nice. The food was mediocre. I had mushroom risotto and did not really enjoy it. It was really salty and definitely worse than others I have other places. The atmosphere was fine. This is a nice restaurant overall and I wouldn't tell people not to visit but I won't be looking to come back anytime soon.

Welcoming & helpful staff. We visited on a Saturday evening so expected it to be quite busy. The staff were very attentive but it didn’t feel very personal, just felt like we were in and out. Food was average - nothing special. The steak was good. The carbonara’s over riding flavour was bacon, it was very salty.

What a great place, food was delicious, other half had lasagne said it was the best hes ever had... service was fabulous, lovely friendly staff. Atmosphere relaxed, yes we visit again.

Visited here with my wife and 2 daughters after a recommendation from friends and have to say would highly recommend to others too. Food was fantastic (Lasagne was delicious), good selection of wines and other drinks including 2 for 1 cocktails. Atmosphere in the restaurant was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. Look forward to visiting again if and when back in Newcastle.

Absolutely brilliant food and service. The staff can’t do enough for you and the restaurant is very family friendly. My son has lots of food allergies and they’ve always been great with him.

Parmesan cheese was off! They served it and we mentioned it tasted like blue cheese and they said no blue cheese the restaurant so cheese was off!! I have been ill since this with sickness and stomach cramps. Will not return here again!!!

First time here, my daughter's took me for my 70th birthday. We had slow cooked beef Ragu. Have since made it at home. Had Sangiovese wine as it reminded me of Bologna

I always highly rate Marco Polo. Great atmosphere, staff and food. The fettuccine Pollo is my favourite! Very good Monday visit with my brother.

We went on Saturday evening for a date night, service was very good, I ordered the calamari to start followed by the king prawn and crab risotto. I have to say this was the best food I have ever had, seasoned and cooked beautifully. The sauce served with the calamari is an absolute game changer. Amazing night, amazing atmosphere, amazing food. Can’t wait to return!

Busy Italian restaurant. Standard menu you would expect with a short pre theatre menu which is why we went. We were not disappointed but neither were we ecstatic. It is exactly what it says on the tin.

It was my first time visiting Marco Polo and I was pleasantly surprised, a much better atmosphere than the usual chain pizza restaurants with the same layouts and the food was really good. Pizza had a nice base to it and the toppings were fresh and tasty. I will definitely be going back there again.

Really good food, excellent value for money. The staff were very attentive and extremely pleasant. Make sure you try their own beer - highly recommend! I'll be going back for sure.

Great food and very friendly service. We went with our two children who make a lot of requests for drink changes, extra plates ad nauseum and the waitress was pleasant with us. Definitely recommended. I had a massive pizza and it was very nice

Food could have been a little hotter but other than that enjoyable. There was also some pressure to pay the bill when we still had to finish off our drinks.

As this title suggests, we found this place overpriced. We used to come here all the time. First visit in a while. It was a Saturday around 5pm, place was pretty quite, ambience was quite nice but the food we found not great. The pizza was like a frozen supermarket pizza. The Pork Belly was ok but came with nothing else which wasn't explained when ordered. We discovered whilst eating our meals on the paper menu left under your plates, that you paid for extras. eg chips, veggies which were in our opinion overpriced. We are by no means skin flints, in our opinion just quality of food wasn't worth the money. The service and waiting staff were ok. What we also did not appreciate was the added 10% service charge on the bill, surely this should be discretionary.

Absolutely superb. The service from the staff was fantastic. Lots of staff who were attentive. Drinks arrived in minutes. Food was delicious. The whole dining experience was faultless!

I've been coming to Marco Polo's for well over 20 years and it's as good now as it was when I first started going. Great food, reasonably priced for a city restaurant and lovely staff too. If you love Italian food, I'd highly recommend it.

Another great meal at Marco Polo...there is no wonder this place is always busy. Excellent food and drinks, competitively priced for Dean Street and great value for money. The Futtucine pollo was excellent after the wild mushroom focaccia as a starter. 3 diners with wine came in at about £40 a head for starters, mains, drinks and coffee/cocktails.

Staff were great but don't like they put a service charge on the bottom of the bill I give what I want to give

We dined on a busy Saturday night just before Christmas but you would never have known it. Food and service were fantastic. Would definitely recommend. Great Italian Restaurant!

My lasagne was on a different level, the best and most enjoyable I’ve experienced. A Bruschetta starter was probably too filling to go with the lasagne however it was superb. All washed down with Vampire ale 🍺 Xlent Xmas lunch. I would consider taking a date here if the lighting could be lowered. Too many restaurants are over-lit imo. Highly recommend : )

Marco Polo is a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere, and friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the seafood pizza at the recommendation of the server. The base and tomato sauce were delicious, but the seafood left me wanting. Unfortunately, it looked and tasted like a frozen seafood mix had been thrown on an otherwise delicious pizza. The calamari rings were chewy and the prawns were grainy. Following this, I ordered the chocolate and hazelnut cheesecake. It didn’t really taste like a cheesecake, but it was delicious nevertheless. It was like eating a full slice of ferrero rocher.

Delicious food, exceptional service. I would say it was a bit loud but it was my own colleagues being noisy!

5 stars isn’t enough! Couldn’t rate this any better it was the most amazing experience and food here was amazing. The food was incredible and would happily have everything again! The service was amazing probably the best i’ve had anywhere, and especially from the blond young woman working she was absolutely incredible and so friendly! Would reccomend this to anyone and will definitely be back!

Fantastic pizza, great buzzing atmosphere

Booked my table over the phone in advance to arrange my plans to propose to my girlfriend. The staff were incredible. They made sure we were at a visible point and when the time came they assisted me by recording it and brought over a fake brass ring that I planted earlier. The food was incredible, we had the lamb and the salmon, cooked perfectly and ideal for the occasion. I would like to thank all the staff, particularly those of you who made this very special night perfect. We will be back 💯🥰

Food was lovely however, the menu has been reduced a lot since last we visited. Service was slow to be fair which was frustrating as we had our 3 kids with us. We felt a bit crammed in and also made to feel like we needed to keep checking the time as we only had the table for a set amount of time.

Whilst in town shopping we took a trip down memory lane and had a meal at Marco Polo. We used to go back in the day when it was just about the only Italian restaurant in town! We opted for pizza and that was delivered promptly and tasted wonderful. The restaurant appeared quiet when we arrived but soon started to fill which is an achievement due to the sizeable footprint. It’s a lot bigger now than it used to be. We didn’t experience much of an atmosphere as we weren’t there that long but I guess the rustic surroundings make that happen at more popular times.

Great atmosphere and very reasonable prices for city centre. We stayed over the road at the Grey Street hotel so this was perfect. We booked the same day and managed to get a table for two, which was lucky as it was very busy when we arrived. The staff were lovely and nothing too much trouble.

Well it's been years literally (20+years) since I have been to Marco polo's. What have I missed!!! Great food, great staff. Food cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Really enjoyed the whole experience tonight we will be back to try more food. Two very happy customers 😀

Two weekends or so ago, myself and my partner attended Marco Polo with the intention of getting a few cocktails. We've been here before, without problem, until now. We walked into Marco Polo (which was relatively busy, but it was a Saturday).. despite having lots of other people, a waitress practically ran to the door and exclaimed that "We are closed!" in a very patronising and belittling manner. She offered no explanation and we were asked to leave. Obviously this was a surprise - and we couldn't have been in there for more than 30 seconds. Anyways, given that it was 21:40 (circa) and their opening hours online and on their door said 11PM, this was confusing. Unfortunately I don't have time for people like this and certainly won't be returning. Safe to say that this lady has brought the Marco Polo name into disrepute - at least for us anyways.

Absolutely disgusting establishment. Our group were treated with utter disrespect the moment we walked in. The staff looked at us as if we were dirt on the bottom of their boot. Our group of 8 was turned away purely on how we looked. Complete discrimination, and totally unacceptable in this day and age. For this humiliating experience, I will never eat at a ‘Marco Polo’ again. Go across the road to ‘Portofino’s’; a true pizzeria where the staff treat you like you were Jesus Christ himself.

Mistakes Happen! Poor waiter accidentally dropped a tray of drinks all over our table and my son. You know what these things happen and they truly owned it. Couldn’t have apologised enough, sorted out a very fair discount etc and made my son feel much better about the whole thing. Food was brilliant, heard great things about this place will definitely be going back.

Been coming to Marco Polo on and off for 20 odd years and I have to say it's still a great place for food. Hadn't been for a year or so but the food, service, staff and atmosphere is still great. Love the food and great selection. Drinks list to is fab. Great place to eat.

Back again and this time with the fussy eaters. The menu has something for everyone, from an Italian range and we've never had a disappointing portion or meal whether pizza, pasta, antipasti or risotto. Cocktails are great too. One of our "go to" options in town.

The service and de personal are perfect, but the cocktail side was not so good, maybe the cocktails are good for none experience cocktail drinkers, we have ordered expresso Martini was full off espresso, tasted like excessive cofee and not like mean to be, and some drinks alsow the same very beginner way. Maybe the food on the other side is the best but we didn't taste it... The conclusion is :if you are experience drinker person this is not for you...

First time in newcastle, and we looked for somewhere you could eat without a reservation. This place was amazing. The food, drinks, and staff are fantastic. It is well worth going and would highly recommend.

Spoken to in a disgraceful manner- Manager was rude and lacked any kind of customer service skills While we did ask for one ingredient to be substituted for another we understood it wasn’t possible Rather then try and keep us in the restaurant the manager argued was rude and extremely abrupt - consequently his attitude towards us meant we left without eating! How disappointed and upset we were - never go there nor could I ever recommend it

The best Italian been in the food is fantastic and the staff are 1st class not had the taste off Italian food since being in lombardi bellago lake como in Italy highly recommended

as a risotto fan, this was the worst risotto I've ever eaten, and the worst mojito I've ever had, who wants to drink a warm mojito??

This was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The pizzas were delivered to the table and looked lovely. I picked up the salt cellar and the top came off and the salt went all over my food. I didn’t want to spoil my friends evening so asked for a clean plate. I was offered a fresh pizza however as my friends were eating theirs I didn’t want to ruin their night. When we left I asked the supervisor Aiden to look at the mess on my seat and the table which were covered with salt and he said he’d been walking past and watched me unscrew the lid on the salt callar. Utter rubbish. He was no where near when it happened and why on earth would I spoil my meal. As a manager he is sadly lacking in customer service skills and to call a customer a liar is despicable. We would never go back and would advise no body to eat there. It lacks atmosphere and the customer service is disgusting

First time here could not believe food so tasty and excellent service, got the pasta with smoked chicken and perfect in every way. My wife got the steak and again perfectly cooked not like some other restaurants. Staff were so friendly and efficient, atmosphere very good and cost reasonable.

Amazing! Me and my boyfriend visited tonight for the first time and the venue is so pretty! The food was lovely, we both had starters and pizzas. The staff were lovely too, definitely recommend:)

I brought 28 business colleagues from all across the country to Newcastle and chose Marco Polo as it was easy to get to, I knew it was big enough, and the reviews were ok. I’d been years and years ago, but it had become somewhere that you walked past to go elsewhere, but this time I thought you can’t go far wrong with pizza etc so thought we’d try it. As we were such a large party, I’d got menu choices beforehand and sent them through the day before so we could make things as easy as possible, but there is always a bit if trepidation when it’s a works ‘do’ and you’re the organiser! The meal was excellent which was reassuring, but what really made the evening was that the service was absolutely unbelievably good. All young staff, but they were superb, they brought each dish up and had memorised the names that they were for. I’ve never seen anywhere do that, I’ve never had such an easy ride and to get 29 dishes up broadly at the same time, plus get drinks orders, without any mistakes that I was aware of, was some feat. We then paid individually which again the lad looking after us took this in his stride. He was brilliant and is a huge credit to your restaurant. As I said I hadn’t been for years, but it’s now going to be my go to place for any business get togethers. If you’re reading this and are arranging any large parties then take the stress out of it and come here. Highly recommended

Attended as a large group for a work social. Really nice restaurant and decor. They were really geared up and well staffed for our group. Attentive and served food and drinks quickly. The calamari starter was lovely and the pasta dish really different to anything I've had before and was delicious. Would come back to Newcastle just for that dish. Very well done 👏

Very nice Italian restaurant fantastic meat lasagna! Great service staff very pleasant and efficient. The atmosphere was slightly ruined by a large very loud hen party it made conversation at our table difficult.

Nice food,good service but don't be taken to the last room beneath the mezzanine.Unbelievably noisy,very unpleasant.All the more annoying as it was pretty quiet in the Resto as a whole,could easily have been put in a different room.Put it down to young inexperienced staff,no one over 25.
