Ahhh what can I say I have been coming here since I was a child so many happy memory's of birthday treats of my late gran. The staff are lovely and the ice cream is the best I've had

Giving this place 3 stars, some aspects deserve more and some less so felt that 3 was pretty fair as overall. Been coming to this cafe since I was a kid however I don’t live local so it had been a few years, been coming more frequently since visiting somone at the rvi, the food is great and extremely reasonably priced however I have to admit I always grab a toastie or sandwich there not hard to get wrong. The toilets on my last few visits were stinking and really need a good clean. On my last visit I didn’t use the bathroom as I couldn’t mentally prepare myself for it so maybe they have been cleaned. I find that the menu has been the same for years and my favourite Sundays are no longer available, every time I try my luck it’s ’we haven’t got any of that today’ now it may be that I’m having bad luck trying to get it but just seems convenient that quite possibly you don’t ever have the stuff to complete the Sundays so maybe changing the menu would help us on what is available. Overall I will be back I love this cafe, I love how it’s dated and the interior has hardly changed over the years but could do with a clean and a menu refresh definitely!

Disappointed! Wanted a black magic but was told the machine at the factory had broke.also they had no black cherries. They tried to fob me off with something else. the knickerbocker glory had too much sauce in

Ha pasado bastante tiempo desde que visité esta sucursal, saliendo por la rampa de sillas de ruedas al estilo Monte Everest que tienen. Sin embargo, al probarlo subí por primera vez en mi silla de fuerza. Desayuné, mi esposa tomó un té, el costo total fue de diez centavos. Para eso se obtiene lo que se ve en la foto, y todo son cosas buenas, de hecho si hubiera habido dos rebanadas de tostadas no podría haberlas manejado. Otra seta sería apreciada mente. El personal, ¿qué puedo decir, simplemente el mejor. La decoración necesita un poco de atención, pero eso no es lo que buscas.

Ordered food and 35 mins later it still hadnt arrived, after enquiring about missing food my sons full english arrived after 5 mins then 10 mins later the rest of the order came out, 50 minutes after first ordering, they lady who i spoke to gave us our ice creams at a reduced price. Similar thing happened in january when ice creams didnt turn up and same girl was involved in both orders. Time to do a little extra training for her

Been visiting both MTs since the early 80s and happy to say they haven’t changed much. It was a ‘treat’ when we were younger to come and get a sundae and I continued popping in through my college days. Love the apple pie and the staff (especially at Percy Street) alway makes you feel like a long lost best friend. Please don’t change anything!

This is one of two Mark Toneys restaurants in Newcastle This one is in the Haymarket area I have been going to both since I was a baby in the 1970s and I’ve always lived in the area It has new owners and the opening hours are sadly not as extensive as they used to be Meaning we sometimes need to go elsewhere for a late night meal The availability of the menu has also been cut back on Previous owners would have literally gone out to the shop to get one customer the food they wanted! However, Mark Toney has thank God, never lost its charm It is cozily and dreamily set in the 70s/80s in a genuine feel good way It’s of the old school and some of us yearn for that in todays uncertain world The music soundtrack remains the same upbeat happy one it always was , the decor is as it was but always clean and even some of the older staff are still there The price of the food is fantastic value for lower incomes and the portions are generous The range of food, drinks and ice creams is fabulous and personally, I don’t think this place can be beaten I’m a lifelong vegetarian with other dietary restrictions and I always manage to eat well here Most of the staff are welcoming , down to earth and lovely They’ll go the extra mile and make you up a meal or a snack to your requirements and they do takeaway too The staff are hard workers and cheerful with it I’m disabled and have sensory issues with it and the only lighting I have an issue with it being too bright is on one side of the Haymarket cafe Other than that, I’m fine Mark Toney is a much overlooked , unique gem

I go every year with my daughter after Christmas shopping and she orders her ice cream sundae - the service is always lovely and the lady with red curly hair is brilliant. Great service and better ice cream

I hate to give Mark Toney such a low rating because this place and the other location hold so many good memories but I went the other day and the ice cream is unfortunately really bad now. I haven't been since before the pandemic but It used to taste wonderful a few years ago but it tastes very cheap now (exactly like a tub I bought from a cheap supermarket, I hate to say.) and the sauces/topping on sundae now were really unpleasant. I really hope they can go back to their old quality ice cream because it very clearly has changed and a huge disappointment because Mark Toney is such an iconic and lovely location I was going to since a kid that used to be 5 stars.

Served one of the vilest breakfasts iv ever had , was served at my table and the woman picked a hair off my plate infront of me it was embarrassing ,the sausage were terrible they stunk of old grease ans the whole breakfast had a strange smell wasnt pleasant at all and the bacon wasn't even cooked properly, use to love this place but the food is horrific and the service wasn't up to it in my opinion so I wouldn't recommend this place there are plenty of places to get a much nicer breakfast for around the same price in Newcastle City centre

A nice place with a very friendly lady

I took my Mum here for a quick something to eat and because it wasn't too far a walk from Newcastle station. This classic ice cream parlor has a great vibe about it as it is full of character. The waitresses were very friendly. The selection of ice cream sundaes, traditional ice cream desserts, pies and puds was fantastic! My Mum had a slice of Meringue pie with a hot chocolate whereas I had a cheese and ham panini with a slice of a traditional apple pie, lattice topped pastry with a generous dollop of vanilla ice cream. Absolutely loved it! I'd definitely recommend this place, especially families with young children!

Called in today with husband had a lovely lunch followed by ice cream sundae , the staff are so friendly and very chatty, nice to see them go out there way to make you feel special , the staff are 100% lovely will be back 😀

Lovely place & atmosphere we had a very nice coronation chicken baguette, lasagne with garlic bread & chips followed by a ferrero sundae & toasted teacake. Good value for money. All very enjoyable, staff friendly & helpful.

Have visited this place, since being in my teens, some fifty years ago. Still one of my favourite coffee shops, in town. Always a good selection of food and drinks - all reasonably priced. Staff always friendly and the place is, always, spotlessly clean. Hope this place never changes - works perfectly, as it is!

Scones dry and tasteless, Cream was squirty not fresh and was informed before buying otherwise I wouldn't have. Couple of staff quite rude.

Been coming here since 1960s, the last year or so it has really gone downhill, cold coffee which we complained about, but didn't get offered a replacement, and a strawberry and chocolate waffle, with a cold waffle ,half a dozen slices of strawberry and barely any chocolate.

Lovely breakfast. Bacon, Sausage, Tomato, Mushroom, Toast, Black Pudding, a tasty fried Egg and a cup of Coffee for 7pound. Opps forgot about the beans .

Many many moons ago…As a poorly young child, my mam would bring me here after my regular hospital visits (RVI) for an egg and cress sandwich and a milkshake, whilst she had her usual French salad sandwich with a tea or coffee. It became a bit of a comfort for me to know that I would be heading here once the “nasty” doctors had finished their torture of taking bloods etc etc. I’ve recently started calling back in here when in town and it’s a bit like putting on a favourite comfy jumper, as the memories all flood back. . Apart from a slight change in decor, seating and obviously prices ( but prices are still extremely reasonable), it has not changed. The warm welcome, the amazing ice cream choices. The wide variety of menu items, from a tasty snack, to a hot meal are unbeatable in my opinion. Today I brought my daughter and two grandchildren as a treat. Between us we had the kids fish finger and the kids nuggets, both with chips, a ham and cheese toasty and a fish and chips and we all cleared our plates! We shared a couple of sundaes with the kids and we were all so stuffed, I don’t know how we managed to walk back to the car! We did noticed that they were serving up what looked and smelled to have been some tasty Sunday lunches…. I might try one next time I visit on a Sunday. If you just fancy a quick ice cream, coffee and a sandwich, cake or piece of quiche ( highly recommend from previous visits) or something more substantial, this is the place to go ( They also do a takeaway service)

Hopefully this wonderful mark toneys still going stong 4 another 100 years or more great cafe lovely and clean aswell! So if u fancy a cuppa or a nice meal l recommended u go there ! Beautiful place. Lovely, cosy atmosphere and pleasant staff. I came here for the first time last weekend and had the sausage, egg, bacon and tomato sandwich which was delicious. I then had the ice cream float with Pepsi which I loved, takes me back to being little. Had a little bit of a wait but nothing too major. Will definitely have to return to try some ice cream as it all looked so good, so many choices!🍦🍨🍧.

Absolutely terrible. Waited more than half an hour for table service, a family of 4 arrived after us then left after not receiving any service. Eventually took our order. I requested the special which was cornbeef pie only to be told their was none left & this was at 12.30. Ordered a beefburger for our grandson guess what NO BEEFBURGERS. he had to settle for a chicken burger & i scampi my wife ordered a ham & cheese toastie hooray they had one, then i ordered scrambled egg sausage & beans for my granddaughter. then the lady took an order for the next table. She went to the kitchen & we waited & waited then they turned up with my scampi & a toastie & bacon & fried egg WRONG!!!!!. So we told them AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED ANOTHER 4 TIMES. we had finished our meals before the kids got theirs. WOULD YOU GO THERE????????

American ice-cream parlour style cafe serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to funky American motown tunes. Good valve for money. Friendly service. Nothing too fancy. Opposite shopping centre. Better than most chain cafes.

En familia, visitamos esta heladería italiana desde hace más de treinta años. Su helado es uno de los mejores de Newcastle, y su gran café con espacios abiertos tiene el encanto de los sesenta, con música de esa época. El personal es muy servicial y sigue siendo imprescindible ir a la cafetería cada vez que mi familia viene a Newcastle.incluso en pleno invierno, el helado es un verdadero placer.

Incorrecto.Yo, la señora y los dos niños nos aventuramos a entrar bajo la lluvia para almorzar y quedamos asombrados de lo bien que estaban las comidas. Todo bien cocinado y sin problemas de ninguno de nuestro grupo. Los niños tenían las comidas de los niños de salchichas y patatas fritas y palitos de pescado y patatas fritas y yo y la señora tenemos una tortilla y patatas fritas cada uno. Guau, las tortillas eran enormes y deliciosas para empezar.Pasando al postre, los niños tomaron helado de chocolate como parte de su oferta de comida y yo tomé un All American Sundae que también fue de primera categoría.Recomendaría una visita, el personal es muy servicial y conversador, y la comida es excelente. Prácticamente sobre la carretera del centro comercial Intu.

This is my first visit here in over 50 years (I won't tell you my age) however I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw inside, it was very clean, tables well spaced out and cleaned down after being used before the next customers were allowed to sit down, very impressed. On sitting down (after being shown to a table) the young waitress took my order and around 5 minutes later my cheese scone and coffee arrived which I enjoyed very much, I will be going back again as the prices are very good worth the 5 stars. Llamado durante la semana. Solo otras dos mesas ocupadas. Esperó más de 10 minutos para que le llevaran a una mesa. Finalmente se le entregaron dos menús laminados sucios, pegajosos y andrajosos. Después de 10 minutos, mi pedido aún no había sido atendido, así que me fui. Estaría perdiendo el tiempo yendo a este lugar anticuado y desaliñado ~ el personal está más interesado en charlar que en atender a los clientes. Evite como la plaga.

Met the family for teas and coffees etc...bacon sarnies, black pud.on the side, excellent all round, staff were/are fantastic we would and will recommend to all.

I considered whether or not to write this review, and concluded thst the service was so bad it was worth sharing.Where to begin? I had to clear the table from the previous customers as the staff didn't have any interest in doing it. I was at Mark Toney with my partner and her parents. Ordering was a chore. It took several attempts to get our order taken. The food came in stages. Two of us were given our drinks and the others weren't. Had to go back to the counter twice to enquire and chase. When a milkshake was brought over it was with a definite attitude... probably because we had asked why we hadn't been given it.I only ordered a sundae as I'd just had an endoscopy at the hospital. We chased several times as we waited for it. It finally arrived after 45 minutes - no exaggeration - after everyone else had finished their food and drinks.The breakfast and cheeseburger we ordered were good. The panini was OK. The sundae, when it arrived, was nice but not worth the price. The ordering system does jot help the staff and when asking if a milkshake was coming being told "I haven't been trained to do that" doesn't help either. After the terrible service it would take a lot for us to return.

Teníamos un desayuno encantador aquí esta mañana. Eran las 6. 00 cada uno incluyendo té y tostadas (GANGA). Si pudiera haberlo hecho mejor, habría agregado un par de hongos más. Fue seguido por helado de caramelo salado. . . . delicioso. No vivimos en Newcastle, pero disfrutamos de regresar a Mark Toneys, ya que originalmente vinimos aquí hace 35 años, cuando el dueño solía manejar el café como un barco apretado y sentarse en su propia mesa al final del mostrador donde solía para hacer todo su papeleo allí. Very reasonably priced café with efficient service

It looks somewhat dated, but perhaps that's part of its charm. Good home cooked food and friendly service. Haven't tried the ice creams but they look good. It's obviously popular with older customers who seem to be regulars. One criticism - a lick of paint in the gent's toilets wouldn't go amiss.
