The food was never fantastic, but it seems to have gotten worse. How do you get fried rice wrong? Added to that, the service does not even remotely make up for the terrible food.

Edit: I feel sick after eating here. Sweet and sour special was almost completely batter with little filling. Was asked to pay cash, which I didn't have, so they asked me to pay by bank transfer. I was going to leave, when they decided that could pay by card after all...

The King prawn fried rice tasted like it was cooked by a bone Chinese person with lots of soya sauce. The satay chicken was oily and spare rib was dry. Beef n black sauce with egg fried rice was salty. Can’t actually eat it. Waste of money.

Food quality is bad and their customer service is worse. The Mayflower Special Noodle (pic 1) is poorly described on the menu for online orders. Theres no mention of 3 different meats contained in this dish, cabbage and sauce. We rang to inform the restaurant of their misleading menu and request a reorder but the man who answered said we were wasting his time, to contact uber eats and hang up. Pic 2 is of Crispy king prawn in spicy sweet garlic ginger sause was soggy and not spicy at all. When we informed the restaurant they said thats how its meant to be. Then why describe it as crispy and spicy?

Went to this restaurant on (23th Nov 2023) and bought special fried rice and Tai chicken curry. It cost me over £12. The rice was over loaded with soya sauce and the Tai curry was disgusting. It chicken tasted rubbery and very artificial. The Tai chicken curry sauce was extremely watery and tasteless. A day later, stored in the fridge, it had gone off. 1. Do not go there if you want a decent, healthy chinese meal. 2. Not a friendly ordering service at the front counter.

I ordered chicken balls with my meal and the chicken was undercooked and the batter was overcooked (confused). I informed the staff and they told me 'It wasn't raw and was cooked' (without seeing it and disregarded my complaint). I definitely know the difference between raw and cooked meat. Their customer service clearly doesn't recognise that "the customer is always right". I won't be ordering from here again!!! To add to insult, no refund or exchange was provided. Right. I’ve ordered from here online various times; about 12 times. The food was exceptional! No hair, no residue of any type of disgusting content. Today is my first time actually visiting the place, the hygiene rating is 3, I completely agree with the rating. I went in to the toilet, in my opinion it was horrible. You can still do your needs but other than that the walls were filthy and the actual toilet is partially fulfilled with hair and other things you’d expect from a toilet which hasn’t been cleaned in a while. The main floors are very dirty though not as dirty as the toilet. I’d rate the main floors 7/10. Customer service is amazing, if you treat them nicely, (which you should!) they’ll treat you nicely! But remember, English is not their first language so don’t urge them with obscene and discreet language. I was a bit anxious at the placing of tables and chairs, the plant pots contained, “artificial trees”. I think that is great! The main walls of the building are covered with oriental objects including the main menu. My visit was a 3/5! -1, since the disorganisation -1, mostly unclean environment +1, kind staff +1, fast wait (depending on your order) +1, great food! I hope you take my feedback and use it well, I will be visiting again to see if you’ve used my feedback well.

Mayflower is PERFECT for the hungry bellys after a night out as they close at 4:30am After a while of not going there due to busy schedule i requested for a friend to take me there for my birthday. *sigh* i was really not impressed with the food i received. My rice was so tasteless the waiter had to taste the difference between my food and my friends. Salt and pepper quid was YUMMY. Salt and pepper ribs were OK not the best but OK.The noodles was SUPER dry is could almost cut my throat. Personally if something is not good i have to voice it as im paying for it. After letting the waiter know i wasn't impressed i was then given a new plate which was SOOO MUCH BETTER, the mayflower i knew. But by then i had filled my tummy with two cans of drinks :'(. I think the restaurant is under new management which means their chef is different but Mayflower is no longer the same and i'm sad. I will attempt it again one day just no time soon.

Favorites: Crispy duck appetizer, Peking duck starter, whole sea bass steamed with ginger, squid with shrimp balls, and any of the vegetable dishes like choy sum or Kai lan. The prices are moderate compared with other restaurants, but the food far more authentic. By eight, there is a line waiting out of the door. If you have someone with you who speaks mandarin, ask about some unique mains like duck eggs and broccoli with what appeared to be a white crab sauce. Very interesting and delicious. Update 2025 - £10 per head cover charge. This place is reasonable priced for what you get. You won’t get cheaper places other than Chinatown in London. Portions are generous and the flavours are close to what you can get in Hong Kong. The staff can be terse - do not expect silver service. I had worse service in Chinatown - London, Birmingham, Manchester. If you love roasted meat come to this place. The roast duck and roast pork is great. Carpark is under the supermarket 4 hours free parking (as of December 2022).

A good restaurant. I was drawn to enter the restaurant because the atmosphere was nice and pleasant, but my experience was not successful. I am a fan of Eastern and Asian food, and someone who is accustomed to a certain style for everyone will be surprised at first by the food, and it may not be very suitable for him. The interneter does not know how to speak English. I had difficulty communicating my requests to him in a proper way. It is clear and the food is acceptable to the extent that you will ask them for spices and lemon, and to drink hot and sour mixed with all meats. It does not have its original acidity

Similarly to some other reviews I found the food very underwhelming for the price. My husband and I are foodies who have lived in various Asian countries and in now living in London we love to try out new Asian restaurants in the hunt for something unexpected, which is what I had hoped for from Hunan after receiving the cook book. I liked the concept of “we choose the menu for you” and multiple courses as it means that for a special occasion dinner for 2 you can have a Chinese meal with the range of tastes you would expect at a round table family dinner, which otherwise wouldn’t be available. The food felt like all your favourite UK Chinese takeaway restaurant classics from 1997… but just marginally better, and I really Do mean marginally. I got the impression that none of the other diners felt like we did. They seemed very impressed by dishes such as “Chinese dumpling” and “crispy aromatic duck” and “egg fried rice”. They did not mind the over use of shaoxing rice wine and corn flour in many dishes. They did not mind paying £170/head for the privilege of this food. Idid notice that at least in our section of the restaurant there was now a single guest of Easy Asian appearance. Most other diners appeared to be American or form continental Europe. There is no Chinese on the menu and I don’t think the restaurant is catering to people from Asia. This shows in the food, service, music (overly loud remixes of early 00s hits), wine selection. The waiters did not appear knowledgeable about the food providing names such as the ones given above, not providing information about ingredients or regional providence of the dish etc except on one occasion where we were told that the lamb was form the Lake District. Our waiter was very keen to upsell us on wine (we aren’t big drinkers) and repeatedly didn’t listen to requests and questions. The food was so disappointing that at one point I started laughing, and as a result. The Maitre’d came to ask is if everything was ok. I commented that i was disappointed with both the food and the service and the Maitre’d apologised and offered to send for more dishes from the kitchen. I accepted this offer and commented that it would be nice as we had come for my birthday. We were then given some sparkling wine and a copy of the cook book. The additional dishes were similar to the earlier ones. One dish of crispy lamb was reasonable. Two other dishes (maybe black cod in a Chinese vinegar reduction and “pork in a bag”) were actually inedible. The other entirely forgettable. Desert was a choice between the overly sweet apple/banana/toffee fried thing and vanilla ice cream (sounded and looked sickly!) and “red bean pancake, green tea ice cream” - again very disappointing. Ice cream was clearly not made on sight, pancake was overly fried mochi-like rice dough with a prawn toast like sesame finish. There was also a coconut jelly which was ok. The Maitre’d knocked 40% off the bill. I had the impression that they had received this kind of comment before. In summary - I can imagine how when the restaurant opened in the 1980s it was impressive. The concept would have been novel, access to Chinese foods beyond the regular take-away joint would have been extremely limited at this time. But in the last 40+ years (and especially in the last 10) the Asian dining scene in London has exploded. Quality and variety now available in other London boroughs doesn’t seem to have impacted this restaurant in Pimlico- which seemed popular with local residents with a clear affection for what I found to be a truly disappointing dining experience. I would not recommend this restaurant. Save your money and go elsewhere.
