Mr C's Fish & Whisky Bar in Argyll & Bute

Visited this place for a late lunch and wished I hadn't. What a let down and embarassment to tourism in the Loch Lomond area. Problem starts at the entrance, no one to greet or offer seating, two young lads at the bar who made no effort at welcoming. Ordered diluting orange - none avaialable, no mashed potatoes for the haggis, oh, you can have frozen chips instead. Nearly £18 for fish and chips - again, frozen variety. Young server spilled the hot chocolate my grandson ordered and just shrugged his shoulders instead of sorting it out. Tables sticky and steps leading up to the gents toilet, crying out for a clean and fresh paint. For an establishment such as this in a prime location, should be a quality place to visit. Surely, the owner or manager can see what's required. Will be a long time before I visit again - if ever.

I ordered the chicken fillet burger with chips and my friend ordered the steak burger with chips. When I lifted the bread bap off to season chicken I was so disappointed to see how small the piece of chicken was - especially as the cost was £15!! It was not a chicken fillet it was the small tender that’s attached to the fillet. Now I’m not a big eater but any man would have finished this is 2 bites! I didn’t touch it for at least 5 minutes hoping the waiter would come past or over to check if our meal was ok as is normal practice in any decent establishment - as he didn’t bother I took a photo of the meal. I finished all my meal which was tasty but extremely overpriced for what I got. My friend ate all hers which was 3-4 times more. Eventually the waiter came to take our plates and asked then was everything ok - I explained to him about the size of the chicken and I asked why he hadn’t checked earlier - he replied saying he was doing bar,reception, and taking and serving which certainly was no excuse. He offered a complimentary dessert which I declined as I don’t eat desserts. He asked if I would like to speak to the manager and I said Yes. Manager came looked at the photo I took and said it was a chicken fillet - offered 20%off the bill - I said I wasn’t happy with that and he got quite rude! I didn’t want a fuss as the restaurant was quite and I knew other guests were listening so I said to leave it with me. We also observed that the said waiter was forever stroking several of the dogs that were in the restaurant and then went on to serve drinks without washing his hands!! On leaving we went to bar to get our bill. It was a very tall dark haired girl who was behind bar - she DID NOT ask what we wanted but after a few minutes tapping on computer screen she slammed our bill down - my chicken burger was reduced to £7.50. We handed our card over she took it gave us back the receipt again it was SLAMMED down and NOT ONCE did she speak to us. As she turned away she shook her head and muttered something!! I have never seen staff who were so rude!! The DOGS were treated better than humans were. Even the guy who was singing had to stop as all the dogs were barking at once!! Avoid at all costs.

Had a lunch through Groupon which was good value. Had to wait 20 minutes for our drinks. The actual food was tasty ( Haddock and chips & seafood linguine) but had a wait of an hour for a starter! Even at that only my husband’s arrived, I was told mine would be a few minutes. 15 minutes later I’m still waiting and my husband has finished his starter! The staff are pleasant but there’s no coordinated service. No one noticed I hadn’t received my starter. Waiters asking other diners if they had ordered when some of them already had. We weren’t the only diners that had an excessive wait.

My mother and I were gifted a two course meal for Christmas. The place itself is beautiful in just as beautiful setting. The service was terrible and the food even worse! I ordered fish and chips, the batter on the fish was soaking in grease, so only the fish was edible. My mother ordered steak pie. This came as hotpot with a sort of separate bit of pastry put on top. Expecting a proper pie my mum ordered onion rings to go with it. OMG! Enormous greasy monstrosity’s! Thinking the desert would redeem things, but NO! When we were leaving we told them that it was awful (the full plates should have been a clue!) they still charged the extra £3.50 for the rotten onion rings! 🤷‍♀️

The setting is nice ease of parking inside needs TLC The food was ok pricey for what you get. Simple things like empty salt seller and carpets look like they could do with a good vacuum don't help. Staff pleasant and try. Hard to compete with others in the area on this quality.

Had the misfortune of eating here recently. To begin, we ordered starters of soup and halloumi skewers. The soup came in a huge bowl and at the bottom, there was what can only be described as a drop of green coloured water. The skewers were 4 chunks of halloumi sitting on a bed of pickled something. No attempt at presentation or any garnish or dressing. It was tasteless and unsatisfying, but did cost £6.50. A bit disheartened, I hoped the main courses would be better. Sadly no. The vegan burger was black and came in a ridiculously huge plate accompanied by burnt fries and a bit of salad garnish (a la 1970s). The fries looked like they'd been refried 3 or 4 times. They were so overcooked that even the waitress looked embarrassed, and when she put the plate down, everything almost slid off. The burger was dry and tasteless and bizarrely sandwiched between a dry ciabatta roll. This made it impossible to cut or chew easily with the dry burger. There was a bit of lettuce and pepper in there but to be honest, my jaws gave up about halfway through. This cost me £12.50. My friend also ordered a burger (also dry) with the same burnt chips, though hers was a pound dearer. At this point we thought to hell with coffee and desserts and just got out of there. With all the competition in the area, I'm guessing that they're just relying on passing tourist trade cos I can't believe locals would come here more than once for the food. Overall terrible meal and experience. Won't be going back.

The Inn on Loch Lomond came highly recommended by several sources, so perhaps our disappointing experience came from unreasonably high expectations or simple circumstance. There is plenty of parking, and it's right on the road so conveniently situated. The staff are all very friendly, and coping exceptionally with the covid measures, but the dining areas have seen better days and are looking tired & dated. Both the wine list & the vegetarian options are limited & uninspiring; with some dishes sold out already, even though we were dining early in the evening. I had the vegan burger - which was genuinely a dreadful dry slab of a thing - but the chips were excellent. OH found his food fairly average (aside from the chips), often coveting the battered fish & chips of other diners (which he wishes he'd ordered instead). It's such a shame - with a captive audience, and a prime location - but the food was a massive let down.

Bought a Groupon voucher for a wee Sunday lunch. Vegetarian selection was very poor. Only vegetarian main course was a vegetable curry which was very bland and tasteless. If you are a meat eater there is a good variety of food.

We met friends here and enjoyed a pre-dinner drink sat on comfy sofas before going to the main restaurant area. The menu had a good choice of main meals. Staff were friendly but a little slow with service. Generous sized desserts. Drinks, as with most hotels, on the expensive side. Overa;; a good meal out.

We had booked a dinner bed and breakfast night and the food in mr c's was superb the service was excellent great choice on the menu and the had an excellent range of alcohol

Dined here as a family and thoroughly disappointed. The ploughman's sandwich was full of pickle so much it overpowered everything. Asked for battered fish it came breaded which was fine but was swimming in grease on the plate. Mash was like smash and to have no vegetables on a kids menu is not great. The chicken goujon looked more like battered fish one had no chicken inside at all. Very disappointed

Went on Friday for a 2 course Groupon Lunch .I had the fish and chips and it was very poor .The chips looked as if they were re heats and the fish was poor . Not much fish and just batter . Local to Luss we had heard that food and service had gotten better. We tried again with an open mind, first time in 4 years. Staff were much better, lots of smiles and welcoming. The starters were excellent muscles and the mushroom starter very yummy. Then main course.... not great at all. Refried chips, tiny piece of fish, soggy, greasy pizza and our sons sausgaes were well overcooked. All for the handsome price of £54! Totally not worth it at all. Mains really let the experience down. Still hungry we stopped at Loch Lomond arms in the village and shared a burger to try fill us up. Sorry guys, we tried again hoping for it to be better. Just not there. Disappointed.

We stayed at the Inn, had dinner and breakfast food was really good, could not fault it. Service let it down 40 minutes between courses and the response from staff was poor. Issues happen, but how you resolve them is the measurement of the staff.

Great setting, the dinning room was roomy and decor was great, let themselves down a bit with food and drink stains on the menus, we were a bit surprised to be told what was NOT available from the menu, wondered why pre booking was needed.

We came here for a family meal. We used to co regularly when it was The Inn at Inverbeg. The waiting staff were friendly and welcoming but the place felt a little sad.
