A delicious haddock and chips - fresh, crispy batter and excellent fresh chips. Very impressed by the quality and the reasonable price.

There curry sauce is really bad so dry and lumpy wouldn't recommend it chips not nice won't biy from here again had to throw it in the bin

Had dinner here tonight. Freshly made oven pizza 🍕 and chicken with chips. Food was excellent. Piping hot and very tasty. Really nice quiet atmosphere. Dan served us. He is always very friendly and welcoming. Let's support local businesses.

The food itself was fine, However, myself and my friend sat in the “restaurant” part of the Fish and Chips shop…very outdated may i add. We ordered 2 cans of Irn Bru, 1 smoked sausage supper (we received battered sausage) and a bowl of chips and cheese…£26!!!!!!!! I politely said to the man behind the till “Excuse me is this price correct” to which very rudely replied “Yes, you are in our restaurant so we charge more”….the restaurant is attached to the fish and chips shop…you are basically sitting in their kitchen, may aswell be frying the fish myself lol. Very unimpressed with this, wouldn’t be back nor would i recommend going.

The fish and chips were so bad ,last I thought I try the Steak Pie - another bad choice . No gravy , no peas .Anaemic chips . All made worse by the attitude of the big guy taking the order . My partner's fish supper equalled the the disappointment I felt on previous vist . An insult to foist this on paying customers . Tip? Forget it.

It was very quiet in the restaurant which we always prefer when we are out just the two of us. We both had fish and chips because why not! It was lovely big fish cooked in crispy but delicate batter and nice portion of chips too. It was a very good price for the quality we received. We will be back!

Asked for chips, cheese and curry sauce all I got was chips and cheese dont go there again go to lido

Thought I'd give this place one last try as I've been coming for years and watched the standard of food decline. Has it changed hands recently? The batter is stodgy, the fish is the thinnest I've ever seen and the tiny portion of chips we gave to the seagulls as they weren't worth eating. Have tried Gino's further down the road (next to Dino's ice cream place) and It's fabulous. Crisp chips and batter, excellent piece of succulent haddock and a pot of tartare sauce to boot. It'll be a shame to see The Palace close but I think that'll be inevitable unless they get their act together.

Rank rotten and portions were like a kids meal.

Perfect fish and chips - fish tasted fresh and well seasoned, batter was light and crispy, and chips were hot and freshly cooked. We ate in, after a rainy afternoon in Helensburgh, and got a warm welcome. Thoroughly recommend.

Fish tea was good. Fish and chips of a decent standard and size. The tea was good too. Traditional type of chips shop cafe experience.

Women beware. Ordered takeaway and while I stood waiting on my order. The male staff were laughing, staring for a long time and speaking in a language that I unfortunately did not understand. I felt very intimidated and uncomfortable.

Loads of people come in to order no where to stand. When take out. Service was horrible staff standing about when you want to order. Food is not any better than there service took ages to come. Rip off Ordered fish supper only got I slice of soggy battered fish normally anywhere else you woud get two pieces,single blackpudding was split down the middle to look like two rip off have never tasted such a vile black pudding, chips were soggy fritters no better. Would definitely not recommend this place Better going to the deli for your lunch.

A hidden gem, we had a lovely dinner and experience in here tonight couldn't fault them for a thing! They went out their way to make sure we were well attended to and nothing was a bother to them absolutely amazing service i will definitely be back and as for the food it was delicious and even offered us a box to take away the pizza we couldn't finish. Visited here again today for my favourite chips and bolognaise finished with a bowl of chocolate ice cream , as always it was delicious and the service from the staff was excellent, I travel from Ayr especially for the bolognaise 😊😊

Diabolical. £28 for two cod and soft drink is high even by todays standards. Batter was terrible; thinner than a razor blade. Chips only “just” cooked - could have done with being in longer. The lack of quality cannot be justified by the price charged

Having traveled from Glasgow to Helensburgh to sample the fish and chips, we weren’t disappointed, freshly cooked and the batter was light and crispy, the food was delicious, my son said the pizza crunch was the best he’d tried!. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the owner was really friendly and attentive, will definitely be going back and would definitely recommend visiting this place.

Highly recommended The Palace sit in beautiful fish tea with full teapot nice and warm staff very friendly and place very clean good atmosphere also we will go back next time in Helensburgh

Beautiful fish and chips , two fish with chips just £12 can't get that in my gateway to the islands town wife got a single fish and chips , pickles, bread and a pot of tea for about £10 .

Plenty of choice. clean place. plenty of seating. but food not great. Batter on fish was like rubbber I just scraped fish out to eat it. Spicy burger no spice. Chips dry. Also got spicy chicken wings were quite nice. But no I won’t be returning. also thought it was quite expensive for what we got.

Friendly enough service, clean and plenty of choice on the menu. No doubt the majority was very good. Chips fine, freshly fried and hot. However, the fish… the batter was bizarrely rubbery, not light and crispy. You need to review your batter recipe, or don’t pre-cook the fish (a possibility). Sorry not to be more positive.

Excellent chippy and pizza take away and sit in right on the front. Staff were super professional and fantastic, food was amazing.

An old-fashioned chip shop with dine in and take away options. I had the fish tea, which consisted of battered haddock and chips with bread, butter and a pot of tea. All freshly prepared but the fish fillet was quite small, so would recommend upgrading to the double fish supper if you have a big appetite.

This is a great chipper. We were staying up loch lomond and thought we would have a run to Helensburgh. Weather wasnt great that day. But the chips were 👍 This was a great place to find and try, and we were not disappointed, the chipper food was great. Loved it. Thanks to the team there and keep up the good work 👍

I travel to the palace once a year on my annual leave in the summer for cod and chips and every visit has been great .the meal was excellent and I travelled back to Glasgow very satisfied 👍

We called in to this little gem in Helensburgh in July on our way to Skye from Dorset as we heard so many great things about it and we were not to be disappointed the black pudding supper was delicious and could have fed 2 people easily but i am a greedy little git and scoffed the lot service was very fast and the prices are way below chippies in Dorset and much bigger portions and greeted with a warm Scottish smile 5 stars alround.

Fantastic find during a short trip to Helensburgh. The food was outstanding. The service was 1st class. The restaurant was very clean and had a nice chilled atmosphere. I highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

A very well located restaurant, across the coastal area of Helensburgh. The server were nice and food came in no time. The seatings are lovely too. However, I believe they could improve a lot on all the food. I ordered fish and chips, while the fish was tasty and fresh unfortunately the batter was chewy and has no crispiness on it. Goes the same with onion rings. Quite bland and the batter could be more tasty, crispy with more crunch on it.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at here at Palace Restaurant, and it was an absolute delight. The food was exquisite, prepared with precision and bursting with flavour. The service was impeccable, with very friendly staff. From start to finish, it was a memorable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone!

1/2 a fish and a plate of odd small chips, this is £10:50 special ! No tea or bread & butter !! What a waste of money !! Management & service cheeky and very poor !! Local's do not use the Palace, the rip off price's are for tourists to Helensburgh !!

The worst chippy I've ever had disappointing chips should have gone in bin rather than being served to a customer

If I could give 0 stars I would Got a takeaway and was the worst experience! Was told we would get a refund through messager and then had to chase this for 3 months! Never received the refund as I was informed the company had changed, funny that the week before I was told I wouldn't receive the full refund as I didn't return the order (which I was never asked to do, would have happily done so as it was inedible!) Managers were strangely never in, even though I called at different times and days, total scam artists! Will never order from here again!

Day light robbery, we were charged £18.20 for a small smoked sausage a single sausage in batter and a milkshake

Visited this today for takeaway fish and chips etc. The food was over priced and tasteless. The batter outweighed the thickness of the tiny portion of fish and the chips were tasteless. For what we got the single fish which was was it was a tiny slice of 1 piece of fish and the hamburger was cheap meat. The batter is a yellow /orange colour and you could taste the fryer fat from this. We won't be visiting again we are use to much better quality day out take aways and this today was sadly disappointing.

Had the most amazing cod big size perfectly cooked. Golden crispy presented beautiful. My partner had a chicken burger fresh salad big burger plenty of sauce and even onion rings on top was very impressed with the food thank you!!! 5star

So away day in Helensburgh, happened upon the Palace chippy , we ordered two fish tea’s. Got to say they were the best fish and chips we have tasted. Soran the fryer made us feel welcome as did all the staff. Highly recommend this chippy value for money and great food

Portion sizes abysmal and cost a fortune £20 odds for fish supper, 6 fritters, half smoked sausage & tub of curry. Was dumb struck. Parked right across the road where I took my food to eat & everything was lukewarm at best. So disappointed in the food & will never get over the price even if I fall over it!

We went in as we remember it being run by a local family. Unfortunately, it did not bring back memories. The place is dirty. It needs a proper scrub for starters. I am surprised H&S hasn't visited yet. I was served tea but couldn't drink it as the cups were sticky of dirt. The room is dark and dodgy looking. It smells as well, and it is not the frying smell. Nothing about it is actually pleasant. We had a portion of chips for the sake of ordering something, and they were ok. The service is weird. The man serving us was obviously not enjoying his job. Sorry to see places like this one going down.

We were charged more money for certain items, than the price listed on the menu. My understanding is that this is illegal. When we questioned the disparity, the waiter said the pricing on the menu was wrong and the new menus had been ordered. Even if this were true, which I doubt, they should have manually corrected the prices. In addition the waiter made us walk around to the ATM for cash. Saying their card machine wasn’t working. At the same time, a number of people had come in for takeaway food, with none of them leaving to get cash. We will not be going back.

We went to the Palace today and ordered two portions of fish and chips. Unfortunately the chips were very light and therefore not crispy. What was even worse was that everything was sprinkled with far too much salt, which made the food almost inedible. Conclusion: Not recommended.

I ordered a fish supper and was standing for between 20/25 minutes for it at lunchtime (fair enough) the staff then started to plate up for sit in customer's wanting fish suppers of which looked freshly cooked. After this was done I received my fish supper, went to the car and the fish wasn't great it was over cooked and the chip's were hard. Very disappointed and it cost £8.10 with a can of cola. Staff please make sure you give take away customer's the same treatment as your sit in customer's. I won't be back.

Only get one fish with the supper don’t no if it’s a Glasgow thing to get two but only get one and it’s a tenner 😂Fish fell out the batter batter was soggy af the fish was slimey and got a handful a chips way it paid about a tenner for the fish supper,also got 2 sausage suppers sausages where dry and again hardly any chips asked for salt and vinegar then I was asked again do I want it and was never gave any place wasn’t even busy must have been 4 people my order was 25 pound and most of it went to the seagulls won’t be back

Ordered the battered hamburger, waitress brought out a hamburger that was clearly not battered then tried to tell me it was battered. Portions were quite small and the vibe was odd. They eventually put some music on but it was bloody awful. Left still hungry and pretty annoyed. Wouldn’t go back.

For the second time I tried the Palace. What a Disater! We oredered at 8pm and waited outside until told it is ready. So we did not see what we were served. Arrived Home we opened the box and what a terrible look! the fish was small and soggy and the fish, not exagerating, were so dry and looked old like left over from the morning service. Disgusting meal.Do not waste your money there. I certainly will not return and will tell my friends to avoid this place.
