Namak Mandi - Taste of KPK in Birmingham

We visited but were very disappointed in service and food, Recommend to all don't waste your time and money.

Second time I've ordered from here and there has been hair in my curry, very disappointed , the cutlery is unclean and so is the toilets

Ordered a lamb karahi, chicken karahi, portion of chappali kebabs and a peshawari naan Lamb karahi was very tasty, meat was super soft and tende. The chicken karahi was very rich in flavour, absolutely delicious 👌🔥💯, been a while since I had a good chicken karahi Was really looking forward to try the chappali kebabs, but ended up dissapointed after a couple of bites, They had good flavour to them but unfortunately they was seeping in oil. As you probably can see in one of the pics, to me they cooked in old oil, definitely needs changing Ended up leaving them..waste of money

Great food, very tasty and fresh. Authentic flavours and lots of choice. However, the service could be better. The person who served us seemed to have difficulty in understanding what was being said and appeared to be quite abrupt in his manner.

This place has got to be one of the best places to eat in Birmingham for an all round taste, quality, service and price. Ordered the lamb chops for starters, 3 Chappal Kebabs with a large naan for mains and a diet coke. It came with complimentary salad, 2 lovely sauces (chilli and chutney) and a large bottle of water. Total bill was £21 and it was cooked to absolute perfection! Service was quick, prompt and servers were very attentive ensuring I had everything I needed. The chops were so soft, tender and flavoursome! It was freshly cooked and piping hot upon arriving and that charcoaled grilled smell set my taste buds off as soon the plate hovered past my nose. Every bite just succulently melted in my mouth. I've had Chappal Kebabs from Mardaan, Peshawar, Kabul and all over Pakistan and UK...so can confidently say this Chappal Kebab is 100% authentic tasting and easily one of the best in Middle England (another is Pakeezah in Bradford and Peshawar Dera in Wembley!) Their naan was soft and tender but a little too crispy in the middle. As I ordered a large naan, it came on the metal naan tree, so by the time Id finished my starters and moved on to the mains, the naan had cooled dwn...but the chappal kebabs were still steaming so it balanced off nicely. Theres lot of options to accomodate cultural requirements such as family rooms and a sit down area where you can experience an authentic 'eating on the floor' area. There were lots of different nationalities eating here which I personally really like as it proves that good food crosses boundaries! Theres parking available outside and I had to park a fair distance away as its a busy road esp. during rush hour traffic but this gave a chance to see this place was easily the busiest on this road during a cold, wet, Thursday night which gave me a bit of confidence that I chose the right place. Will be definitely going again when Im visiting Birmingham and it just might be my new regular go to! Just 5 mins off the Aston Highway so very accesible to the M1 and M6. Highly recommended!

Bad really. Carrots on top rice not cooked. Dry meat. No taste at all..i eat only couple wings and bined all...sad wouldnt take order again

Would be a perfect 5 if the service didn't let it down, we ordered what we thought would be fit for our family as we know how much we eat but the waiter kept stating it wouldn't be enough. He told us to order more and because of the awkwardness we did and we had so much food left over. We also had to ask for a lot of things and the chicken leg as part of our meal came out after had eaten most of it. We will try again and see if the service is any better.

The waiters have no manners. The initial impression was very poor. They were very pushy. We ordered a mixed grill which comes with rice, we also ordered a peshwari nan. The waiter kept saying it would be not enough and kept mentioning the 3 chapli kebab with nan would be a great deal which is extra £14. My stupid friend fall for the trap. We wasted chapli kebab and most of Nan and rice also. The food was excellent apart from the rice,very strong flavour of jeera(cumin seeds). Toilet was very dirty. Would I go back again? Probably Yes only because the grilled food was really tasty.

What a great experience. The service was brilliant on point except the first guy experience couldn't speak English. Food was absolutely delicious lamb curry and chapli kebab was delicious. The chicken wings were on point. The service was brilliant and good price as well. The place is nice and clean and very welcoming. Will be coming again. Want to try the mix grill. Oh the desi tea n badam was a lovely way to finish the meal

Delicious food and well manared staff

Lamb chops were tendered to perfection and the afghani and charsi tikka are very much recommended. Peshawari naan was more crispy then how I like but went well with the lamb and chicken karahi. The khawa at the end just hit that perfect spot.

They are so slow, it takes at least 1 hours to wait for the food to get ready. They don’t care about the customers concerns. Staff is very unprofessional. Will never visit again.

Probably one of the best restaurants I’ve been to food wise in Birmingham. All of the dishes are very tasty. Newly opened about a month ago. I recommend the lamb chops and Peshawari chappal kebab.

I had high hopes for Peshawar Darbar, especially with all the social media hype, but it was a complete disappointment. The food quality was terrible; the Karahi was mediocre at best, and the mixed grill was dry, overcooked, and completely unappetizing. The atmosphere was even worse, with an overpowering toilet smell that seemed to be the only authentic thing about the place. I must admit, though, the can of 7-Up was a solid 10 out of 10. Unfortunately, that’s the only positive thing I can say. The hype surrounding this restaurant is clearly not real, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for quality Afghan food or a pleasant dining experience.

We went there today it was very busy but Zia arranged table for us starightaway ...Food was Amaizng ...Kebabs...Tikka... and Chicken Karahai all were Amazing and delicious...Will def recommend to all of you to try once..

Owner need a little educated waitress I bring my foreigner friends to introduce them to our food but they evening start from rubbish they waitress don’t know nothing they first and last time guy if you want to enjoy your meal and evening go somewhere else rubbish place

Good place to eat with family, proper Afghan food, the only problem we had was the waiting time for food, we received our food after 50 minutes, also no one came to take the order, we had to go and tell them what we wanted, which is not usual for a darbar, anyways the food was spot on and their charsi chicken karai was one of the best I’ve tasted, the kabli pulao could use some improvement as I have tasted better ones in similar places.

This place is so unhygienic. So dirty. I had seen a staff member cook food while he was picking his teeth with a toothpick. The floor was so sticky. The whole experience felt was very bad I overheard the owner asking people that he knows to leave a Google review in his own language. So the 5 stars you see will be fake Location is good. They have a perfect opportunity but it is wasted by the way they accept present an unclean experience

The service was so long. Roti was cold. No body came to our table to ask what you need. When we went to pay the bill the till man said I will give you discount for bad service I said I am not looking for a discount we are looking for good service and good food.

I ordered mixed grill, masala fish, chicken karahi and tarka daal. Food took about 30 minutes to come through. Mixed grill included wings, lamb chops, chicken tikka, lamb seekh kebab and lamb boti. Everything was delicious except lamb tikka boti was hard and chewy and uncooked. Chicken karahi was ok with decent flavour. Tarka daal wasn't great and more oily. Masla fish was good. Service speed was okiesh not great, staff were helpful. There is free on road parking but very busy.

We had the 2 person kabli pilau's. The taste was fune not the best ive tried and im a big kabli pilau fan. It was dissappointing to see only 1 lamb shank in a 2 person dish. So had to pay extra fiver for an extra piece, im not sharing my lamb shank

Me and my sisters travelled from London to try birmingham food. I say the best Afghan restaurant I have been too. I'm not a fan of grill but their grill is 12/10.... amazing. The chicken charsi karahi is the best hands down 10/10, we actually watched them cook this from scratch... I must say I'm amazed. The Chapli kebab i would give 4/10 But everything else is AMAZING. The customer service was excellent, they even put a partition up for us whilst we eat. The price is decent for what you get.

I came here 4 years ago it was called Namak Mandi, I had a bad experience, however today one of my friend recommended this place to me and I went there so the food was tasteless, and this place is overpriced. I don't understand why people are spreading false roomers.

Not to exaggerate BUT this is the BEST place I have eaten Afghani cuisine to date. The meat just melts in your mouth and the fat pieces are a pleasant surprise no worries if you don't have teeth. Starters and Karahis top top notch. Ordered: 2x Charsi Tikka (Lamb Chops) 3x Afghani Tikka 1x Chappel Kebab 1x Fries 1x Charsi Lamb Karahi 1/2 kg. 1x Family Naan. THIS IS A MUST! *FORMALY KNOW AS NAMAK MANDI. *Only complaint is drinks selection can be better in regards to the boycott. A few available but more options needed.

From Daussan, the foundation is called Kharsawi. The area is not covered by the charter, They just sell the name of Peshawar. They themselves don't know what pukhtoon cuisine is. Pathetic.

This is no longer namak Mandi. Food is lacking flavour no matter how much they tell you they have people asking for their recipes. Just didn’t taste of anything. Need to find where the chef went to and eat from there because whoever is cooking the karai doesn’t know how to make a masala or tenderise the meat. The charsi tikka and chaapli kebab were decent but nothing to rave about. Naans were heavy and thick and this was their small naan. Sauces are bland especially the chilli and mint. Service doesn’t really exist.

Great service, rather disappointed by the food quality. Naan tasted fresh, but that's about as good as it got. The meat and rice didn't taste nice, and some of the food was hot whilst the other was luke warm. Service from the staff was great and they were very helpful.

Barco nuevo pero la misma comida vieja. El lugar está limpio y tiene buen servicio al cliente sin embargo la comida es promedio en el mejor de los casos , parrilla mixta solo sabía anticuado pero el kebab Chappal era agradable y suculento.

I really enjoyed the meal, the lamb charsi was very tasty, chapli kebab & wings had really good flavour. I was little disappointed with the lamb charsi tikka as the meat was chewy. Overall a very good family restaurant.

Went to this place today absolutely disgusting service we waited one hour for our food every time we asked how long they kept fobbing us of and saying 10 min the owner was to busy taking selfies with customers not knowing that there is people waiting for there food never will I be going there again there standards have dropped very badly attitude towards customers is disgusting and very rude

Wonderful food, everything was very tasty, well cooked and fresh. The portions are decent, the meats are tasty and the fresh, naan was a great compliment to our mains. It got super busy at one stage and the smoke from the grill was everywhere but they have great air conditioning that’s taking care of it. Highly recommended the kabuli pilau and the charsi lamb kadhai, charsi tikka, wings with naan. The workers are very polite and respectful. Great Afghan food.

One of the best services & food in Birmingham.

A bit of a hidden Gem with a good seating capacity including a room where you can sit on the floor and eat! We ordered Lamb Chops & Charki Tikka with Kabuli Rice & Fries. The Charskj Tikka is a taste of home whether your African, Pakistani, or Afghani this lamb pieces with just salt is such an experience! Coupled with Kabuli Pilau (Rice) and home chutney to give it a little kick really helped with the overall experience. The Service was good and friendly host! Finishing off with Sweet Rice and an extra helping of Charski Tikka really made the experience very enjoyable indeed. If someone is looking for an alternative eating experience and doesn’t mind having a taste of home feel free to have a try! There are other items I wished to try so maybe this will be saved for another day!

Food isn't the same as before especially the Charsi Tikka which were over cooked and didn't taste like before the renovation. Wings and Charsi chicken karahi was really good.

Honestly not worth your money. After reopening we thought we would see how it is but the food was extremely dissapointing being bland and unappealing. Each element was just a waste of money and when this was fed back and apology was given but then advised that it is in fact flavourful and they dont know why we didnt like it.

My child, Zakariah, is whom these followingreviews come from. It was amazing. The room was poshly decorated with red and there was the smell of flowers plus the dishes were amazingly clean. The food was amazing. The staff were unimaginably kind and the only thing better than the food. I recommend going to this restuarant. NOTE: I would recommend the cheese burger and the afghani version of fish and chips but they are suprisingly not options. Everybody in my family loves the food we put on.

Beautiful food. One of the best Asian restaurants in Birmingham. The decor could be nicer but the food is what we all go for.

Nice place with plenty of seating. The seating area gives you a vibe of dining at kpk. A bit pricey compared to nearby restaurants but food is good. Halal. On street parking available. Customer service is good too. The food took a bit longer but we got served hot piping food that was sizzling so was worth the wait. I would neither recommend nor advice against. I believe there are loads better options on that street. If you found this review helpful then a like would be much appreciated.

How can you be so good on one day and so bad on another? Honestly thought I found a winner with this restaurant but what a mistake that was... The first Karahi we ordered was 1kg standard Karahi with bones and tasted beautifully - there was no oil oozing out of it and the salt was reduced as requested. Wonderful thought I was actually eating an authentic masterpiece. The second time however was terrible, we went for the 1kg boneless chicken Karahi hoping it'd be better without the bones. Turned out it was probably 400 grams of actual chicken and the rest that oily tomato puree you get in a really bad pizza, what made it worse was that the chicken that was there was overcooked and really stale. We also ordered lamb shish kebabs that were rock solid and dry like the Sahara. If it wasn't for the second experience I would have actually recommended this place to family and friends. We didn't eat in but the environment too seemed as stale as the food. Not a real reflection of Afghan / KPK hospitality.

Better than Kabul Darbar although they both are owned by the same owner-according to my mates. Very tasty Karhai, delicious Chappali kebabs and chops were tender. Definitely worth of second visit! 2nd visit: lack of salt in Chappali Kebab and Karahi are not spicy enough, food taste varies on every visit and that’s the sign of unimpressive cooking. Sadly this restaurant drops on 2 stars.

Worst resturant and they not even close to kpk namak mandi name they using. Food was disgusting but never mind on top staff was like rude and ready to fight when questioned about packing the left over food. No respect for customers and I insist don’t waste your money going to this restrung. Taste of Khyber on Lady pool road is worth visiting if you want to taste the food of kpk. I ended up wasting my money md regret why I visited that place 😩. When asked for left over food to pack they bring you the food containers and ask you to do it yourself at the spot which make you feel like embarrassing in front of every one around . I left the food and left the resturant feeling I never come back to this disgusting place again.

Lamb Karahi was not good. It was more like Lamb Salan and nothing like Peshawari Style Karahi.. Too much Oil.. The Charsi Tikka had no flavour. Chapli Kebabs were good though.. Disappointed over all...

I have been to many restaurants but Namak Mandi is the best one. I tried their Charsi Tikka, Peshawar Kebabs, Peshawar Polou and Namak Mandi Karahi which were simply yummy. Well done the new owner for bringing up the standards.
