New Tean Fish Bar in Staffordshire Moorlands

I have just been to the local chip shop and sadly I have to say the chips were awful. They had been reheated from lunch time.

Excellent Gluten free fish and chips. Gluten free sausage too. So lucky to have this on our door stop. Never had a bad meal from there. Just need a curry sauce and fishcake now lol!

Huge portions of great tasting fish and chips at competitive prices. Our daughter is coeliac so the gluten free fish and chips available at the weekend means we can all enjoy fish and chips together.

The new tean fish bar! Nothing new here except for the fact the prices! and they seem to have forgotten about the support they received during covid. Telephone orders and so forth queues were up the road.couldn’t do enough to retain customers. Now you call to place an order for convenience only to be disconnected 55times 🤦‍♂️ and told they put the phone on hold! When calling to the shop, was told staff don’t know how to use the phone.. Staff seem very incapable to operate the phone.! I’m sure they are on social media and the likes.. overall they are typical local chip shop trying to make a living from cheap products <5* nothing special unfortunately. And not a cheap fix these days. I’m sure I won’t be supporting my local store anymore. Rather I go to Cheadle chip shop for the better quality food regardless of the drive. Totally a waste of money on substandard foods and service.good luck to the proprietor of the business. You have lost my custom.Better, cheaper elsewhere.

£6.85 for this piece of cod… apparently there’s cod in it… Complete rip off, chips undercooked, salad was fresh about the only thing that can be mentioned as a positive.. Ordered online system works ok but food cold after picking up and driving 2 minutes home. Very dissatisfied, won’t be buying from you again. And stop bullying your staff!

Great experience even if i only got chips! I went a bit happy with the vinegar but the owner warned me that the box might leak! I know it was only a little thing but that customer care speaks volumes

Large chips in a box £3.90 and just about enough for two. Pudding ok but large fish at £6.45 was disgusting, burnt batter and unable to cut with a knife. Best things were the peas and gravy !! Not worth the trip from Blythe Bridge, will probably return to our usual chippy at the Broadway, just thought we'd try a different one.

I can't even rate their offerings because I couldn't order anything online. That's their preferred method apparently. Items missing from the menu which were there yesterday. Started an order and added to "basket". Go to "basket" and although the items are there, all the options for payment etc. were greyed out and didn't work. All that was prominent seemed to be a we are closed banner and to order for collect when open! I'll go elsewhere, thanks.

I cannot fault this place for their food and vast choice! Halloumi fries are amazing. However it pains me every time I go in that the boss belittles his staff and speaks to them like dirt. I have used this place for years but this literally happens every time I go in and feel like it is time to say something. There is no need to shout at your young staff in front of your customers. Even behind closed doors this wouldn't be acceptable. Unsure whether to bother coming back now as it makes me feel so uncomfortable!

Can't fault the food but its a victim of its own success. I think everyone in the village has fish and chip Fridays. Can place internet orders but it's a bit clunky. Fridays without pre-order are painful!

The food was absolutely beautiful And is the most amazing chip shop I have ever tried customer service 10out of 10 would highly recommend and will be returning in the very near future Thankyou

When lockdown started and i saw the click and collect i was a bit nervous, but it works great. I order for either 5 or 6 people so remembering the order was always a pain. Now it is just build up the shopping basket, hit checkout and get a time. Normally on a Friday night it is around 25 min for pickup, which works well with our house. Always friendly, and service with a smilewould not even think about using any other chippy.

click and collect , did not work , resulting in a waste of time and standing outside in the cold with no information , when i raised the issue with the owner he showed no interest in my problem , more concerned about taking orders and monies , even though it would appear he could not fulfil on time.

We stayed in the area last week and were delighted to find a fish and chip shop that not only took contactless payments but, also offered click and collect service. The safety measures within the shop were very good, the service quick and the fish and chips excellent. The children loved the special kids' meals in their boxes.

Visited yesterday was blown away by the safety standards put in place to protect both the employees and customers- food was as good as ever,place was immaculate,service was excellent as always! Well done Kos and the team you’ve really pulled out all the stops!

There are three chip shops that are closer to us but we always go to Tean chippy. Chips are nice, fish is flaky, kebabs are great and the home made specials e.g liver, braising steak etc are lovely. Nice staff too, hard to fault.

Famliy love the tean chippy, but i am not a big fan of fish and chips but the large cod that I had iam changing my mind absolutely loved it.people don't wait in a line for no reason.

Drive from Cheadle for tea. Chips, beans and gravy. Chips, peas, gravy and a cheese fritter. Chips, doner meat and salad. £15. Got home and the gravy was soaked all into the paper and cardboard and there was no doner meat on mine. Absolutely gutted! Can't tell you how much I had been looking forward to it. Won't ever go again. That's what you get for kids serving!

Not been here for a couple of years and gave it a go last night.Not sure if it's changed ownership or staff but it's now back in my chippy book.First bonus is it's open until 9.30 pm. Now offers gluten free options.Offers the usual chip shop fayre and does chicken and donner kebabs. Also offers some specials like liver & onions, braised steak or the homemade fishcake.Chips were some of the best I've had recently and as for the fishcake, out of this world. Fishcake costs about £1.85 but its twice the size of the normal one and really tasty.Offers lunch specials and mini fish & chips. Also a kids menu.Well worth a visit.

popped up to tean to visit a friend, went to the chippy at 9-15pm as they were starting to clean up (as they close at 9-30pm) two girls were very polite and friendly as they asked us for our order. three of us ordered one large haddock and chips,one doner kebab, and one pudding and chips. have to say i dont think i have had a bigger haddock. it was huge. we all enjoyed our food very much. price was great too. i live in bournemouth and i would have paid 20-30% more for the food back home. I also liked the kitchen, they had 3 doner grills, a couple of panini presses, all the usual fish, pies etc, and also two large chicken rotissery ovens (each taking 12 chickens).....am only here for a couple of days but hoping to try a chicken. nice place.

As Australians abroad we have been looking for some great Fish and Chips. After 2 weeks of travel we came across this hidden gem while driving through the countryside. The food was fantastic and the service was so good they treated us like family! It is well worth trying if you are in Upper Tean.

We have been using this chippy for over 30 years as this is undoubtedly the best chippy in the area.There are often long queues on a Friday, but it is well worth the wait as all the food is freshly cooked and piping hot.Parking can be a problem, especially as recently the council have put in more restrictions, but just round the corner is a large car park in very easy walking distance.Give it a try.

I can’t endorse Tean Fish Bar enough, absolutely 1st class, amazing selection, great portion size and superb value for money, oh and if there’s any home made Fish Cakes, just get one.

I always go to Tean Fish Bar for the best fish and chips. Also their braising steak is so tender and delicious. Recently tried chips and cheese which was a lovely combination and shall be trying again. Also another must is their homemade fish cakes. Making me hungry just writing this.

We arrived into Alton around 21.00 and wanted something quick and easy to eat, so we drove down to New Tean fish and chip shop. We were not disappointed, Great cod and chips at a very reasonable price. The staff were very pleasant too. A Great fish and chip shop, definitely recommended.

Outstanding as ever, fab service and delicious chips! Family of five all fed for £15. It was a lunchtime treat, it is usually Chippie Friday!! Best chips in the Moorlands’s!

Best fish and chips locally. Good range offered, gluten free available and everything cooked fresh. Average prices. Very clean efficiently run business.

I’m a regular customer of Tean chippy and drive 15 minutes (and past two other chip shops) to get there. It’s worth it though, whatever I order is always to a consistently high standard. A couple of people have commented on the prices being high, I don’t know where they usually go as I find the prices to be in line with pretty much every other chippy in the area and the portions from Tean are huge! I’d definitely recommend it.

What ever you have is always well cooked and fresh never greasy ... always an enjoyable tea and treat with plenty of choice . Very friendly staff and a bonus when you can pay by card 😁

This is a great chippy, you can always tell a good one by the queue, which on Friday evening is out of the door.

We have used Tean chip shop many many times over the years and the chips are the best in the area in my opinion.

Where I live there aren't many gluten free fish and chip shops. I ordered sausage in batter and chips. The owner took full control and used the specific fryer it was all cooked fresh and I could see all that was going on. We chatted about how I had being diagnose Coeliac 7 years ago and I had not had decent gluten free chip shop food in ages. It was lovely. The food was separate from the other food we ordered and tasted great. Best fish and chips in the area.If you're a Southerner remember that once you get much north of Birmingham the standard fish is haddock, not the cod you are used to, though even as an ex Brummie I prefer the haddock which you should try, Cod is available to order. I can recommend the raised steak too.

Great fish n chips. Never disappointed with my food from here. Good service and lots of choice. Worth a trip if you are in the area.

We always visit Tean fish bar it's the best one in the area defiantly better than the ones in Cheadle.

There will probably be a queue when you get there because lots of other people also know it's the best!

Visit to Tean fish bar tonight and was impressed the way it was done up but not so impressed with the prices.

Quite excited to hear our local chippy has now started to do gluten free fish and chips, we had to try it out. Our 12 year old coeliac daughter has only ever had fish and chips out once before in Blackpool. It is great to know that she can now enjoy this at home too! We had to wait about 15 minutes while our fish was cooked. Very good very large portions. We will definitely go back.

We had heard that the chip shop where doing gluten free fish and chips,we thought we would give it a try and we where not disappointed. Excellent will definitely go again.

. Although not a regular customer of fish and chip shops, I really enjoyed Gluten free fish chips and peas for tea tonight. Having seen it advertised in the local paper. A real treat. Would have liked thicker batter, and not stuck to the paper if possible, but that's a minor comment. Really well done to the Fantis family for embracing the GF concept. Gluten free isn't always easy, and it's great to know that it's available locally. Will spread the word. Good luck with the pies. If you need any volunteers, I'm sure they will be queuing down the street. Well done.

This chip shop is now advertising gluten free food on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4.30pm onwards. My 9 year old is coeliac and so we have never been to a chip shop as a family before as it would not be suitable for her. As usual you have to take your first visit anywhere new with a leap of faith because if you don't try you'll never know.

We have used tean chip shop many times over the last 10 years. We love it there and won't go anywhere else for a chippy tea. The staff are really kind and the food is amazing. It's really popular and there can be a queue but the food is well worth any wait. Which is never very long. You can ring up and place and order as well. Food is always fresh and proper tasty. It is also very well priced!!

Called here as we were staying local at a caravan site. Staff were friendly, food was lovely and survived the 10 minute drive back still warm. Sometimes the chips from chip shops are really greasy, not here!

Worst chips I have ever tasted. Clearly reheated...gravy so thin could not even taste it. All served up by rude staff will stick to the godfish bowl in cheadle

The place is clean, the food is fresh and hot, there is a wide range of choice (including liver and onions). The staff are quick and polite whenever I have been in.

Been using this chippy for quite a few years, and thought about time i left a comment. While parking can be tricky at peak times (it is popular after all) and a small wait could be expected because they like to do the food fresh, i have never had a bad meal there! whether it be the great fish n chips, to a HUGE kebab, always fresh and great portions for the money.The place is spotless and always greeted with a smile.

the food at the Tean Fish Bar is always brilliant, hot and tasty. whereas the staff here I can not always say the same for. the young boy who served me was moody, rude and too informal. I understand that its a fish and chip shop but to greet me by saying 'orate son' I found inappropriate. will return but I feel the staff need to learn some customer service skills! good portions and prices... see you soon!

Lovely fish and chip shop in Tean, always friendly staff, the food is always fresh, hot and good portion sizes. Lunchtime specials are excellent value too. This is a fantastic chip shop, always well patronised possibly due to the portion size! Living in Cheadle means we dont use it very often, but have called on way home quite a few times

This fish bar is really busy every evening which reflects on the quality of what is served. Sometimes if there is a monopoly of one there can be a tendency to take a foot off the gas. Not here!

This has been our regular Friday evening chippy of choice for nearly thirty years and we keep coming back. By far the best in the area.

Truly an outstanding British Chippy.

This chip shop is up there with some of the best chip shops in the UK and this comes from someone who travels all over the UK throughout the year. The food served is excellent in both taste and quality. We go through Tean every Wednesday and if it is during the lunch time period my first stop is always at the Tean Chippy. My last visit was on Wednesday 14th October 2015 at 12.30, I had seen the lady who served me before and she appeared extremely unhappy to the extent that I felt uncomfortable, I could not get out of the chip shop quick enough and there seems to be an aura of sadness surrounding the female contingent at this shop. It doesn't do any harm to try to be cheerful irrespective of which way the wind is blowing. The gentleman owner is always very pleasant and I will continue to use the Tean Chippy and hope the staff issue sorts itself out.

Always have great service here. Food is hot and great quality. One of the best around! Lunch time deals are great value.

The quality of the food is excellent and the staff are friendly. Best of all is the gluten free service every Thursday Friday and Saturday. A real bonus which allows us all to enjoy "Chip night"

The Black Lake is one of England's hidden restaurants but well worth seeking and finding. High up near to the Meir Heath area it has lovely ambience, the French maitre'd is always very welcoming, the food excellent. They will always offer us a different vegetarian dish if the one offered is not to our liking..Try going for a visit... at busy times it's wise to book a table!

Best chippy for miles around. Good value for money. Most of the time a portion can be shared between 2 people! Not sure what else to say just trying to reach the 100 character minimum. Good chip shop!

The fish was very thin and the batter was brown and dried out not golden and fluffy like freshly fried fish should bed. As for the chips they were obviously reheated as well. I have given 1star as the staff were friendly.

I have known the owner for many years and he is passionate about his fish and chips. I call every time we play cricket in that area. The fish and chips are beautifully cooked and well worth the money. I would recommend most definitely

Living in Tean this is our local chippy. Never had any complaints over the food as for a chippy it is always of good quality! Staff are always pleasant and welcoming. Only problem is sometimes there is an extensive wait for the food... although it is worth the wait sometimes it can be a nuisance.

Friday night chips just don't get better. Cos and his team never fail to make you feel welcome the fish is the flakiest most succulent I've had outside a seafood restaurant and the kebabs on offer are of a very high standard with as much fresh salad as you could want , none of that brown curled up lettuce I've come to expect from other establishments thanks team see you again next Friday

We had a lovely time at Alton Towers over the Bank Holiday Weekend before we left we asked a few locals where should we go for fish and chips , most of them said Tean Fish Bar ...so off we went Tean it is . We ordered 4 fish and chips a very cheap price compared to where we are from and each one of the meals piping hot with thin batter just what the doctor ordered .Friendly and helpful staff with a big Thankyou to the boss for helping us on our way with directions too .A beautiful lucky little village with a great chippy . We shall see you guys again soon .Double Thumbs up .

Just had another great meal from our number chippy .we live about 6miles from Tean chippy passing several fish and chip shops on the way but not one of them even comes close to the quality and variety this place does . Keep up the fantastic work .

Proper British chippy, always have freshly cooked fish and chips, and fairly large portions & good value for money, sometimes the staff can be a little slow but I think that's due to new starters. But we usually go on a Friday/Saturday night. The busiest time! Always have good quality food! Thanks

This chippy never dissapoints, its that good I travel from Blythe Bridge and don't use the 3 local one's in my area. Just been there again this evening, there is always a big queue but its well worth the wait!

Queued up for 15 mins and it was well worth the wait. This is a cracking little chippy, i had the mini fish chips and curry sauce at a fantastic price, nothing in the area comes close to it. The servers were all very friendly and chatty, this is my local chippy and worthy of a good review.

I don't know about you, but don't you think many chip shops could reduce their prices by reducing the amount of chips you get in a portion?

We visit this chippy once a fortnight as a treat and have never had a bad meal. Friendly staff, especially the manager. I watched him escort an elderly gentleman with mobility problems safely to his car outside - big thumbs up, caring chap. Food is excellent, try the chicken tikka kebab!! Fried chicken is very good. Tasty food, fast service and with a smile - that's why we keep returning. Well done Tean Fish and Chips!!

Only eat from there very occasionally , chips are always a soggy and stick to the grease proof paper and break up, fish has soggy batter and does the same.

Been going this chippy for years now and have never had a bad experience. It's very affordable and is absolutely delicious would recommend as one of the best fish and chip shops around Stoke!
