Great Indian food and friendly staff

First and last time here..Food was cold, bland,tasteless, complete Lack of favour and very oily...Cannot understand the 5 Star reviews...

The atmosphere is good. We take the card and the waiter is there, he immediately wants us to order something, snacks and something to drink. We feel trapped. The starter was the best, amazing sauces and bread. Lamb chops, the meat was hard and chewy, the duck was good, but we ate better. It's worth trying, maybe another dish will be tastier.😁

La bienvenida es cálida y efusiva y se le hace sentir especial durante toda la noche. Y la comida es maravillosa. Deliciosos entrantes de cordero chispeante. Y una trucha tandoori suculenta y bellamente especiada. Añada un ambiente equilibrado encantador perfectamente sintonizado con una noche de citas especial y un bailey complementario final descarado y tendrá el mejor restaurante en Highams Park. ¡Visite!

Staff were friendly and attentive. Gave a bit too much attention as we must have been asked same questions by 4 waiters. Food was a big disappointment as lamb biryiani was very bland.

The starters were fine. Then one of our party got a long woman’s hair in her rice! In it, not on top. It ruined the night for myself and my Sons girlfriend. The worse bit was the manager sort of trying to deny it. Like a half accusation of foul play. Then I’m eating my king prawn dish which was a special but pretty tasteless and I think it’s the vein from the prawn but it’s another hair. A short one!! I didn’t think too much what type of hair it was. It made me feel sick and the food wasn’t that good in the first place, but I couldn’t eat any more. Very bland apart from the chilli chicken masala. Felt like we were in a barbers shop!! They took the cost of two mains and a side off the bill but I think the only thing that would have stopped me writing this was a full refund and an offer to come back for a complimentary meal at another time. That still wouldn’t have been enough. Really really disappointed and to top it all they forced a cheese nan on us, saying it’s better than Dishoom and it was vile. Soggy nan with mild cheddar. Where does that belong in an Indian? The bill still come to £35 a head with a few non drinkers and shared starters. The complimentary drink at the end just kept us there longer. Must try harder!!

Excellent atmosphere and very very friendly staff. No fancy gimmicks or shenanigans. All the food was delicious, the only thing I would add is the lamb dish I ordered contained cream which was not described on the menu. Where is this is not an issue for me, as an ex chef, It makes me nervous that they may be sending this to dairy free customers.

DISGUSTING. The worst place I have ever eaten at. The food was tasteless and only took a minute to arrive at the table after ordering, that is how you know it was not made fresh. I won't ever be eating here again and I suggest no one ever does. If I could have given minus stars, I would have. 🤢🤮

Due to my local takeaway closing I tried this for the first time food was amazing really enjoyed it will be coming back for more can't wait to have a sit down meal definitely recommended

I've been a couple of times now but find the food a bit dissapointing. I had different dishes and it was too sweet on both occasions. Also the lamb in the second dish was too small so i felt like it was all sauce. Its a shame as I like the restaurant atmosphere and service was really good with very pleasant waiters.

I've been to One The Avenue many times and it is always a great experience. The staff are very friendly and forthcoming, and make you feel welcome the moment you step in. The menu offers a lot of options and I haven't been let down by anything on the menu since I've been going. Highly recommended Indian which also has easy access to Highams Park Station

Have dined here before and was okay, decided to try again after a while and I must say this restaurant is West end prices in Highams park!! Ridiculously expensive, for average Indian food, don’t think I will be going back. This restaurant seems to operate on making as much money as possible rushing customers to turn over tables.

First time booked because of reviews, service quick bit to keen to rush you. Food very bland, no spice or flavour. So much red food colouring, not nice. Very expensive for bland food.

Place got love modern decor, they staff are fantastic, the good is delicious and is my go to Indian restaurant, high recommend

Five of us each ordered a dish and shared them. All were excellent with great balance of flavours. Good rice and breads. Friendly staff and fast service. We came with a couple who had, that day, moved into the area. What a great start. It will be their local! Sitting in one of the circular booths was a great fit for our group. They also have standard tables. The menu has a range of standard and house specials. Large enough to have a good choice but not too large to be overwhelming! We were offered complimentary drinks at the end of the meal, which ended the evening on a generous ‘high’. We will be back

I have been eating here since it opened in 2004, and I have to say that this is a fantastic restaurant. The manager Jay and his staff are always very welcoming and their food is of the highest quality. But don't just take my word for it try it for yourself. You won't be disappointed

Got taken there for the first time on my birthday on Saturday. Really impressed by the decor and polite staff. Even more impressive was the menu which differed from the run of the mill Indian restaurants. The food was absolutely superb and the waiters incredibly attentive without being intrusive despite the restaurant being incredibly busy. Highly recommend the duck jalfrezi. Succulent duck in a delicately spiced and fragrant sauce. Highly recommended and really looking forward to going again soon. I couldn't help but notice the amount of regulars as the waiters seemed to know them all by name. Lovely to see a venue back to some semblance of normality after the recent Covid crisis.

We had an excellent evening out with all the family. The food was scrummy and our 3 year old grandson loved it.

I come here regularly with my friend for catch up. Service is amazing, nothing is too much problem. I haven't had bad food there so far and we have been going there for many years. They also serve good selection of wines and we always receive complimentary drink at the end. We enjoy this place as it is very clean, food is great, staff is friendly. It's perfect of dinner for two or large family outings.

Haven't been here for some time so I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dishes. The chicken was particularly tender in the dishes we had. Great service and super atmosphere. Definitely my favourite curry house in Highams Park.

Food was not nice at all. We asked for it asian style and spicy it was not. Tasted like boiled food. The food had to be sent back to be redone and when it came back it was still horrible. Not spicy at all, if your looking for flavour please look else where.

The quality of the food is good, for example, Lamb is always very tender, but the sauces are quite bland. They are always busy, but like most Indian restaurants these days, they just just cater for the masses, the "chicken tikka masala brigrade" who enjoy free poppadoms and even a complimentary drink..which is a nice touch. But I've tried their specials, and I've tried their "traditional" dishes...like Madras and Vindaloo..the Vindaloo is very very disapointing. Their Vindaloo is a very basic curry stew, yet done properly it's such an amazing curry if you cook it yourself and follow an authentic recipe. If you're a foodie and know your curry, then this place will disappoint..like most high street Indian restaurants, it's nothing special, and not really worth the money anymore to me. I need something far more authentic, something that is not made from a base gravy but prepared from scratch as an individual dish, and I'm prepared to pay a premium to find it. So after a meal from the avenue tonight which was watery and very bland..I'm giving up on all of the local Indian restaurants and takeaways in Woodford, Chingford, highams Park and beyond...and I've tried them all. It's not fair to compare what I've had on my travels to India to what we get here, or what I've tried in some modern Indian restaurants in London, but there is very little comparison. The service at 1 The Avenue is excellent and like I said, the quality of the food is good. But I crave something better so it's time to move on.

This is our favourite Indian restaurant locally, the food is always excellent, and the service even better. The staff are attentive and always make us feel welcome. Our first visit to the restaurant rather than takeaway on 17 May after months of lockdown did not disappoint. Would recommend for any occasion from a chilled dinner for two through to a larger group celebration.

Had an early tea there on Sat 22nd May and had a great meal. Have walked past there for years and the food always smelt amazing- finally got to enjoy it myself and was not disappointed. Starters were tasty and very 'clean' tasting, whilst the mains were of great portions and delicious. My partner and I had drinks, a two course meal and poppadoms and the final bill was only £43. Service was also excellent.

Easily one of the best restaurants (Indian or not) in the area. I've been eating here for years and the food is just as good as the service. The staff are friendly, and make you feel welcome on arrival. In my experience, they've been happy to make recommendations and suggestions when I've been indecisive. The food itself is generously portioned, and everything from the mildest to the hottest curry is flavourful. Personal favourites are the prawn jalfrezi, okra (bhindi bhaji) and peshwari naan, you can't go wrong!

I’ve lived in Highams Park for nearly 5 years but have only really stayed local and gotten to know the area since lockdown. Pre-Covid, I’d often smell gorgeous food /spices in the air when getting off the train after work in the evenings but could never figure out where the smell was coming from. Now, thanks to my regular lockdown walks Ive discovered No1 The Avenue. The penny dropped that it’s the place behind the beautiful smells! Now, I can’t get enough of the place. The food is SOOOO good! I’m gutted I’ve only just discovered it and have missed out on eating their dishes over the past few years. So far I’ve only had the lamb rogón josh, the lamb jalfrezi, the pilau rice, sag paneer and of course the complementary poppadums but I plan to work my way through more items on the menu. Everything I’ve tasted so far has been beyond tasty, fresh quality ingredients, generous portions and it helps that the staff seem to be ever so friendly and helpful. I'm a fan. My only regret is that I didn't discover No1 The Avenue sooner!

I have never had a disappointing meal here, it is always lovely and hot, delicious and very good value, the chefs clearly take a lot of pride in their dishes and it is much appreciated. I have also just discovered the lamb makhani which is definitely my new favourite dish.

Food is not bad, a bit greasy. Not in the same league as say Dishoom - id be willing to pay more if they could serve some dishes nearly as good. Friendly staff.

Visited here with my partner 18th August - We love this place normally and they are always very attentive, friendly and helpful. I even had the manager come over and go through the entire menu with me to explain what I could and couldn't have as someone with a dairy intolerance. However, this occasion I was shocked to see the waiters were not wearing masks and those that were had them pulled down so was pointless wearing them. They had no safety measures in place and didn't seem as attentive as normal. It took about 20 minutes once we had sat down to actually have our orders taken. I asked for water and they brought me a jug, which I liked, however the jug was dirty at the top so didn't really appreciate that. The food was lovely as always though and my partner and I enjoyed the atmosphere as we usually do. Such a shame that they do not seem to be adhering to any covid safety measures.

Vine aquí como parte del plan de salir a comer para ayudar y no me decepcionó. Logramos conseguir una mesa el día de y nos dijeron que solo podíamos tenerla para 1. 5 horas. En el clima actual, eso no es inusual de todos modos.Tenía 3 curry diferentes con los lados habituales de arroz pilau, naan y roti. Todo estaba delicioso y los platos estaban vacíos al final de la comida. El servicio fue rápido y aunque se sintió un poco apurado, fue aceptable dadas las circunstancias.Recomendaría y volvería a visitar!

Hemos comido aquí anteriormente pero salimos a aprovechar el esquema del Gobierno.Buena mesa junto a la ventana en la “zona del pasillo” que a veces puede resultar un poco claustrofóbica.El servicio fue un poco apresurado pero, dadas las circunstancias, eso era comprensible.Excelente comida.Visitará más a menudo.

Went here for a friends birthday.. food was ok although my friends had a chicken madras and sauce was very runny and my husband had a king prawn curry and prawns were very small .. I wouldn’t not go back but prefer my regular curry house in north chingford to this place

Visitamos a las 7. 30 el lunes, éramos 6.El restaurante estaba bastante ocupado cuando llegamos y luego adelgazamos un poco.Pedimos 6 platos principales, 3 arroces, 3 naan, 4 popadoms y curry incluyendo biryani de cordero, pollo korma, pollo tikka y un plato de pollo y espinacas. También 2 cobras y agua. Me temo que no puedo decirle cuánto pagamos cuando mi hijo pagó la factura antes de que mi esposo o yo pudiéramos obtenerla.Tuve el cordero biryani que viene con un curry de vegetales encantador. Fue genial, enormes trozos de cordero tierno a través del plato de arroz. Volveré a dar esto nuevamente muy pronto.Toda la comida era excelente y todos nos ofrecieron una bebida de cortesía antes de irnos, que terminó la comida muy bien. Puedes elegir cualquier bebida, tuvimos cobra's, Bailey’s, coke y sambuca.El único inconveniente de comer aquí es que debes desnudarte cuando llegues a casa, ducharte y luego secarte el cabello con curry y lavarte todo lo que llevas puesto, incluso el sostén, para deshacerte del olor a cocina. ¡NO use un abrigo, no importa lo frío que esté afuera o tendrá que lavarlo también! Para mí, en invierno, esto es un dolor, ya que agregar más lavado a la norma para secarse es una pesadilla.Yo diría que vale la pena el lavado adicional porque la calidad de la comida es buena. Pero la visitaré en verano la próxima vez.La comida no es barata pero es de muy buena calidad.
