Oli & Joe's Sunniside in Gateshead

Met a friend here for midweek tea. It did not dissapoint. We went for the 3 courses for £16.95 but upgraded both mains to a steak (which did come with chips, was clearly too eager with the camera 🤣) Potatoe skins for me, bruschetta for my friend, both amazing. Steaks, medium-rare. Both were lovely. Pleasently suprised that with drinks and upgrading that the bill was only £20 each. The staff were friendly, polite and very tentative. There were people eating coming and going through out the time we were there. We will be back. Lovely place, lovely staff, lovely food.

First time in today and have the 3 course sunday lunch which was exceptional...highly recommend the food and service ..

Ordered a carry out and when we got home it was missing one meal. We rang the restaurant and were told to go all the way back and they would refund the meal that was missing. Disgraceful service and attitude of the management on New Year’s Eve. Good service would have delivered the missing meal to us without question. Will not be using this restaurant again. Only ordered from here as I was passing as the food is often mediocre

BEWARE was given a £150 voucher off my employer for this place. Nothing said to them when they bought it. Only me and my partner were told we had to use the whole voucher in one sitting. Gone to waste. Go elsewhere if you are treating your employees can’t see why bill can’t be took off the voucher and balance be used another time after all they already have the money. Steer clear if I was you

Have eaten in before had the 3 corses for £9.99 this time had the munch box specials, worth every penny. Beautiful food, fantastic value and brilliant staff

Cold pudding on dish cold custard on another. Garlic bread was thin and overcooked to make it crunchy not soft. Other than that, the main course was delicious. Staff were very friendly and deserve 5 stars as they were very helpful and polite. When the food came out, not to our liking they did sort it, such as missing chips cold pudding. Though after the second issues I didn't mention the cold custard as it felt like I was being slightly annoying having sent one pudding back already.

The advertised 3 course Sunday lunch special was only 1 course and confirmed by the restaurant when called after delivery. Better value elsewhere.

One of our favourite local restaurants. The food is always fresh and delicious and the staff look after us well.

The meal was cold. He advised outside as rang . But wasn’t at my address. I rang restaurant but they advised to complain to just eat which I did with no success. Won’t be ordering again.

While my meal was nice this is the 2nd time I’ve ordered same meal and advertised as having cherry tomatoes in pasta dish but there weren’t any.

First time visiting and definitely won't be the last, Food was unbelievable and the value was insane! Thank you so much for a lovely meal

First time here.... Great little restaurant and food was amazing. A little on the pricey side for early evening meal (drinks and happy hour pizza - nearly £40) but we enjoyed our visit and will be back!

We’ve tried it in the past and wasn’t keen but were told it was under new management so tried it again and it was lovely! Very good value for money, staff are fantastic and food is lovely! Highly recommend!

Stumbled upon Oli & Joes Italian whilst in the area, food was delicious, service was impeccable and value for money was second to none. My little one dropped her knife and within seconds the server brought a tray of cutlery over to replace whatever was dropped. 3 course Sunday lunch with 4 meat options. £12.95 for adult and £7.95 for kids. Would definitely recommend visiting!

Attended last night with a view to my wife and I eating. I was aware that it was " happy hour" until 18:45 so we waited until 20:00 hrs to enter, knowing that it would attract families etc until that time. When we entered there were still kids running wild, and the waiter asked us to wait until he cleared a table in the area where there were a large number of families with unruly children shouting and screaming. As we waited a waitress came and asked if we were being attended to. I replied that we were going elsewhere as I had no intention of eating in that atmosphere. In fairness, she did offer to seat us in a raised area of the restaurant. However the noise levels were such that I had no intention of eating in a war zone. This is not the first time we have eaten here with rowdy children running wild. I had to ask to be moved the last time. However after a recent shut down for refurbishment, I did think it might have resolved this issue. Can I suggest a curfew on large families looking for happy hour menu's, spoiling the dining experience of "Adults"? My own grandchildren would have behaved themselves,as they have been brought up to respect others,especially in restaurants, and we would have ensured that they did. Unfortunately, we opted to go to Ollie and Joe's in Whickham where we didn't have the issue of wild children, but an inexperienced waitress, and bland and sub standard food made for an equally disappointing experience. So I'm afraid the " ollie and Joe" franchise scores a minus ten on my card.

First visit since these guys took over. Great service, very friendly & efficient. Food portions are huge so take an appetite with you. Prices are very reasonable especially for size of portions

Very disappointed with food chicken and peppercorn sauce was the worst I’ve ever had the sauce was very dark and salty. Won’t be back.

This little gem in Sunniside is our favourite place to visit. The food is of a really high standard and its very affordable. The staff are very accommodating and it’s a great place to take your kids, you dont feel on edge telling them to be quiet, great atmosphere. Would 100% recommend

Excellent. First time in this restaurant. My wife and I arrived at noon and were first customers of the day. We were shown our table and had our drinks straight away. Potato skins and minestrone starters were ordered and quickly served. Both very tasty. Main course was pasta and sauce and were excellent. I would recommend this restaurant and would expect to be back soon

Never been to Oli and Joe's before. Now believe there are about 4/5 restaurants in the chain . We went to the one in Sunnyside booked for a Saturday night. Some car parking behind restaurant. Not too busy but not a lot of tables left. Owner/waiter was very pleasant, we had drinks on the table pretty quickly and meals ordered. Food was great. Drinks very expensive but that seems to be the way it is these days. About £85 for two with starter, main and drinks and I was driving so no alcohol for me (about £3.50 for a pint of coke). You are going to pay over £20 for a steak with nothing else and extra for fillet then extra for chips or vegetables. No complaints, decent food, good service, drinks a bit expensive, probably too expensive to go again but since COVID we haven't eaten out much so maybe this is the going rate.

We had a takeaway Sunday lunch today and the staff were fantastic. Catered for a dairy free child and the food was delicious.

Absolutely gorgeous meal at Oli and Joe's! My mother's lasagne was huge ! We had the evening special 3 course meal for £16.95. I got potato skins and a beautiful garlic dip. Then I had Pollo au poivre, which was beautifully presented and totally delicious, I opted for vegetables and got extra chips to share. The staff were amazing, John was singing in Italian and the other staff were so polite and attentive. We all enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back soon !!

This is definitely one of our favourite places to visit when we want a nice meal, served by pleasant staff, where we know they aren’t going to charge the earth. Currently undergoing some renovations and we can’t wait to get back. Definitely recommended.

There were about 20 people in and one person serving drinks and meals as well as clearing away. it was excellent value for money. it wont be long before we are back. FIRST CLASS.

Am sure I've already left review. But would recommend the 3 course special. Only thing can say negative was we went in evening & even though they had sat us at table next to radiator it could done with being more warmer & think 🤔 by time we left the heating was off

Not gonna lie, I've been here twice now, and both times it sucked. I mean this as no personal attack on the staff. They seem like very nice group of people. But both times I've been here, the food was always delayed. And the quality of the food, while not awful, was just below average. Obvious supermarket ingredients just slapped together. And I think to myself, I could have made this at home for less money. About as Italian as Disney's Pinocchio. Can't recommend I'm sorry.

Fantastic food and great service. Very clean and social distancing rules observed. Lovely place for a cheap meal out. Is now under new management and still can't fault it. In today and watched the manager sit with an older lady and cut her food up for her. Respect to him, it was lovely to see, he told me she's in frequently and he always looks out for her. This is the kind of staff you need!

I went there at 8pm on Saturday just gone with 3 of my friends, when we got in we were seated really quickly and the host/manager was very accommodating to us, the food was brought out very fast and was very flavourful and fresh. The manager and bar staff were very natural creating a very welcoming atmosphere aswell as a delight to talk to. At the end of the meal myself and my four friends wanted to split the bill and our server was very helpful in letting us know how much each of us needed to pay. I would Heavily recommend the restaurant if you want to get a quick weekend plan or an organised event, easy 5/5

We waited 20mins for our order to be taken and nobody came. A waiter came to take the order of people who had arrived after us and who were sat behind us! He had to walk past our table twice to see the table behind us! The next time he passed to take an order from the table beside us! I said excuse me fairly loudly 5 times, and was genuinely shouting "hellloooo, HELLLOOOO!!" and he still didn't look over! I'm not someone with a quiet voice so I cannot understand how anyone could claim they couldn't hear me! I had to go over to the till at this point to ask if we could please place our order as by this time it'd been over 20mins! Eventually the waiter came to take the order, but even that wasn't straightforward. I asked for potato skins and carbonara for my daughter and a calzone for me. The waiter had to be told three times there was only one skins 😑. Delighted when our order came, I cut into my calzone....well, I tried to cut into the calzone!! It was completely dried out on the top and it broke into shards. Every part of the top was as crisp as a cream cracker but tougher to snap - inedible. So that had to be sent back. A minute or two after my calzone had come back, a waitress came to the table with two bowls of chips. One of our party had ordered steak and chips, but nobody else. We had to explain no second chips were ordered several times. Then she went to take both bowls of chips away despite the person with the steak having no side other than the chips he'd ordered. Turned out the chips were for another table altogether! Once the replacement calzone arrived it was absolutely perfect and would have deserved more than 3/5 stars. Sadly the calzone debacle brought it down quite a bit! As I was eating my calzone long after everyone else had finished, I mentioned to the waitress that they'd be as well serving the ice cream up for the two kids who had both ordered the set menu including ice cream. Only to be told that they had run out of ice cream!!!? This wasn't mentioned when we ordered and neither were the kids offered an alternative, given that this was part of the order. I had to proactively ask what they would be offered. Eventually, the waitress came back explaining that they could offer sorbet which was accepted with gratitude. The adults asked what other pudding options were on offer for us to order and it seemed to take more effort than needed, for the waitress to understand we weren't questioning what else the kids would be offered as sometimes adults like desserts too! Two of the party sat with empty glasses for some time and nobody asked if they'd like another. When we asked for the bill, we were not offered to split the bill and we were not even offered a discount or a free coffee given the poor service. Big shame as I've always loved Oli and Joe's! I wouldn't feel confident recommending it any more.

I'm really glad we came here. The food was great. Unfortunately they were out of the apple pie, "have a cheesecake". Preceded to bring out the best cheesecake I've ever seen 😍😍 lovely place highly recommended.

We've had the lunchtime special and the Sunday lunch and we were very impressed . For a reasonable amount of money, they offer a good variety of choices and very tasty too.

Taken over by new owners - they didn’t have a vegan menu the last time we were in We had a lovely lunch at Oli and Joe's Sunniside my kids are particularly picky eaters and they said the pizza was the best they've ever had. The girls were lovely and we had a wonderful family meal. They even had a vegan menu so we could incorporate the whole family. Their orange sorbet was gorgeous.

A late lunch.We were the only guests ( 4) but had some good pizzas and pasta at decent prices.

It's an American Restaurant not Italian Restaurant. They cook food like an American not Italian.

This place is decent, cheap and cheerful but all in all good family restaurant that's reasonable value for money

Overall nice snd staff brilliant. Did have risotto but it wasn't risotto. Just dry rice with peas and chilli thrown in. Tasty enough but not risotto

Visited again since changing owners and the 3 course Sunday lunch was lovely however the service wasn’t. Took over 30 minutes just to order food! It wasn’t that it was really busy it was due to there only being two waiting staff on. There was a female server who was run off her feet clearing tables and serving food by herself. The guy who I think is possibly the new owner or manager spent most of his time chatting to customers at their tables whom he knew or they were maybe regulars? The female server wasn’t allowed to take orders what I thought was ridiculous when the person that could take them was stood around chatting. Before we left I did make a comment to the guy about the woman being run off her feet and them being short staffed to see if this was normal but he brushed it off so we won’t be returning as two hours for a Sunday lunch is too long especially when you have children in tow

Reserved table and hour before arriving, to be seated 20 mins after waiting. Asked for drinks twice never came finally asked again and brought wrong drinks, then waited another 20 mins and no one came to take orders so we left definitely wont be back terrible service.

Food 35 mins late. Cold on arrival. Poor quality for amount charged. Garlic bread minus garlic. Just ordered from another restaurant. For £18 you should be ashamed. Never left a review like this at any restaurant but so disappointed

This has gone right down hill since it has been took over, we used to come here regularly. By the time we had our drinks order and food order took we had been there over 25 mins and it wasnt very busy, starters (Potatoe skins, with a tiny amount of rotten lettuce and bbq sauce splatted on the plate) which we ate but left the lettuce, then waiting on the mains we had been there over an hour, the people who had came in after us had there starter taken away and mains brought straight out 5 mins later. Service was abysmal, god help them when there busy. The kids were starving i ended up asking to pay for the starters and drinks and cancelling the mains, (which they never charged me for) and taking the kids to a proper italians with better service, will not be back again which is such a shame as before this was took over it was a good place to eat and service was great.

Went for a meal for my Son's Birthday, the food was delicious, it arrived hot and so fresh, even my six year old granddaughter's was chicken goujons and chips, all home made, superb quality and the service was second to none, so attentive. We will be back very soon
