Rays Balti in Kingston upon Hull, City of

Been trying to book this for months and been unable to get through on the phone. Managed to get through yesterday to book a table for today. We turned up and it was shut. Think we’ve given up hope now :(

We came here as it was recommended to us by family. The decor was very nice and the service was very good i couldnt fault it. There was some items on the menu that wasnt available but that was ok. The poppadoms and pickle tray was very nice and tasty but the rest of the food was dreadful to say the least. Everything was bland and not tasty at all. Biryani both on the bone and off were flavourless and the veg curry that it came with it didnt make it better. Other food was oily and the chipati was dry. Portion sizes where ok but the price didnt really match the quality of the food. Also the venue is cash only. I do like the concept of bring your own bottle that was different and nice. Considering how quiet it was and given what i heard i expected so much better. I dont think i would come back again

This place is legendary round these parts and I’ve just thoroughly enjoyed a bhuna! Tasty food and lovely staff

Visited this place yesterday evening. The setting is beautiful and the staff is out of this world. The food was pretty decent and the prices are quite reasonable. Good people and kindness resonates and that's what's gonna have people going back to Rays Balti.

First time trying this place. My partner used to frequent in the 90s with his late father and it was his first time back there since he passed away. The food was amazing, the service was great, couldn't of been more helpful if they tried. The atmosphere was great, it was valentines day so all the lights where low, heart balloons on every table and what I'm assuming was romantic Indian music playing through the speakers. 10/10, would recommend and definitely will be back.

Staff was nice and welcoming and very chatty. Food was all nice and the nan bread could feed a small village they are huge..

Great service and food. The guys at Rays were very accommodating, 9 of us turned up without a booking and the team were excellent! Food was fresh and came out quickly.

Trouble getting through on the phone but rocked up luckily they sorted us a table out ,staff super friendly and the food was delicious and we are from bradford so I dont usually get my hopes up eating curry else where haha

Wasn't sure what to expect 25 years after our last visit here. Was a regular at Ray's Place back in the 80s and 90s. This was the first visit since moving to West Yorkshire in '96. So glad we came. Staff really friendly and the food was really good. Very tasty and not greasy at all. Brought back lots of fond memories. Thank you to Yusuf and the team for a really nice evening.

Brilliant food as always, really looked after our party of 9 for my birthday on 26th may 2023.... Even gave me a birthday cake and sung happy birthday to me which I thought was a night touch. And all the new decor looked lovely. We'll be back soon as always.

Best place to go for a curry in Hull by far. Been coming here for 30 plus years now, the staff have become friends over this time and currently AJ doing a fantastic job, Ray would be so proud of him right now

Wouldn’t trust sitting eating in there anymore with the dodgy electrics and the cheap labour work now been done by junkies.

Food was not very good chicken very dry, there was quite a few of us and most of us thought meals were not up to scratch Will not be revisiting Very disappointed

Very poor had table booked for 7 people had to all sit separately. Curry - Tikka masala tasted like powder. Waiter was very rude snatched the menus off us. Would never return

I have eaten at rays place since 1984. I have not been for a while because of covid. I went there this evening for a meal. There was a sign outside stating they accept bookings only. How are people supposed to know this if it not on their site? Ray was a friend as were the other staff. I feel sadly let down.

Really dissapointed. Service was rude and didn't feel welcome at all. Hardly any vegetarian options. Food was very poor, didn't seem fresh and portion sizes were really small compared to most Indians we go to. Sadly do not recommend.

This our n family night out restaurant for many years. The new decor has made this so much better. Also new layout. Ray was like family to us all.

I went with my partner last night. Ordered two normal Currys a naan to share, a coke and a small beer. A bill of over £30. Nothing is really itemised and everything is confusing. The food was nothing special but nothing wrong either. I won't be recommending it as knowing the price in Restaurants and I know we were well over charged for what we got. My partner paid the bill as he always does, because he just says just vote with your custom, there's plenty of choice out there. I was very annoyed though, and so much wanted to say something. Please Remember this if you're going to use Rays place. Check the price of everything. I feel, if you don't, they will over charge you. Just to make a few extra pound. Which is really sad.

Old fashioned restraunt.. Food wasn't as good as one on bev road or akash or in Beverly. Taste of India in Hull. But they were pleasant and you can take your own wine. Better places

The garlic naan was good. Everything else was not. Flourescent pink tikka massala with chewy chicken, and the lamb dhansak tasted like a slightly indian bolognese. Who puts tinned pineapple in a dhansak?

Fantastic food with great service from the friendly staff.

Uf awful place. Avoid, so we sat down to have birthday meal obviously we brought our drinks. We received popadoms, and nibble away, after 2h we received our starters and mains at once, rice cold and dry, no meet in curry, taste was awful, dry chicken tikka? Honestly the amount of food we ate is because we were so hungry that we would eat cardboard box by that time!

Don't eat here. By doing so you are financing crime in the city. They happily accept stolen credit cards without asking any questions or reporting them as they are legally obliged to do.

I've been promising my wife I'd take her to rays place for ages so she finally got fed up and took me. Great friendly atmosphere and great food. We ended up having to take desert home with us for breakfast the following day!

Great food lovely staff cozy place to eat

On christmas eve after picking my other half up from work we ended up driving past this little old restaurant after looking for somwhere to eat that was still open at 9pm. Anyway we turned around and ended up seeing if they were still serving (which they were amazingly!) we placed our order and waited about 10 minuits for our food, while we waited we pondered on what we should expect and new it would be either horrible or amazing, well gladly it ended up being the best indian food we have ever had!! the owner is great and down to earth and the price was unreal at well under £30! and i never ever tip places, but considering it was christmas eve and the experience was brilliant i made an exception, dont let the bad reviews put you off, its not the fanciest looking place in the world but id rather the owner concentrate on making good food than having a facny mural on the wall or serving on chopping board 😂 get down here!!
