We were passing through the area from London and decided to stop at this gem of an Indian restaurant. What an incredible find! The food was absolutely amazing – bursting with authentic flavors, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. Every dish we tried was a delight, from the starters to the main courses. The spices were balanced perfectly, and the quality of ingredients really stood out. What made the experience truly unforgettable, though, was the service. A special mention has to go to Eman, our waitress, who was outstanding. She was warm, attentive, and made us feel so welcome. Her recommendations were spot-on, and her friendly demeanor added a personal touch to our evening. If you're ever in the area, this is a must-visit restaurant. Delicious food and exceptional service – we’ll definitely be back!

The best balti house in Birmingham. I've been coming here for over 30 years. Imran and family are very welcoming and the food is lovely.

With the restaurant Royal Watan (the Royal Kingdom), Does it live up to its regal title? Spoiler alert: this kingdom deserves a crown! Our large party of 25 (featuring impatient adults, a grandma with 21 diagnosed conditions, and kids vying for constant attention) arrived ready to eat and test their mettle. The owner greeted us warmly, ushering us to our seats with the grace of a monarch himself. He even saved us a hefty £60 parking fine by advising us of being illegally parked. We leaned heavily on his expertise for ordering, and boy, did he deliver. The starters took a little longer than expected, however the delay gave us the opportunity to catch up as a group which rarely happens. When the sizzling mixed grill arrived (with surprise complimentary samosa chaat), the wait was forgotten. The meat was grilled to perfection—juicy, tender, and seasoned with just the right flair. Our carnivorous cravings were satiated, while even the herbivores in our group were treated like royalty with surprise extra veggie mains. After obliterating the starters, the mains had arrived. The lamb and chicken dishes were delightful, although there was a slight overenthusiasm for peppers in a couple of them. Nevertheless, the balance of flavors and the hearty portions left us nodding in approval. We were just about ready to leave when the owner intercepted us with a final act of generosity: a round of delightful desserts, on the house. If we hadn’t been smiling already, this gesture ensured we left grinning ear to ear. Royal Watan specialises in Kashmiri cuisine and has been serving the community since 1984. With service this impeccable and food so well-prepared, I am sure they will be reigning supreme for many years. Verdict: This kingdom is well and truly deserving of its title. Long live Royal Watan!

My father planned a new years meal for my family and I. We spent some time choosing curry houses in Birmingham and when we came across Royal Watan our search was over. We knew this was where we wanted to spend our first day of this blessed year to follow (god willing). What we did not know was what was to come when we went to royal watan, we were greeted like we are royalty which makes sense of the name now. Not only was the service like that of royalty but the food was good enough for the king and his family. I from this moment on will not eat anywhere other then royal watan where I know I will always have the consistency I so desperately crave. Thank you to Imran and Arfan for this amazing experience it has started my year of perfectly.

The best food in Birmingham for sure. Service was amazing, the staff were very friendly, the food came on time & the food is very tasty and delicious. The chicken, fish, and lamb were delicious and the biryani and naan topped it off!

Customer service was amazing, lovely staff that make sure that you are accommodated for and happy with the food. They always had a smile on their face. The food was delicious. They cater for vegans and have a great range of options. One of the best curries I have ever had and it was made even better by the staff being so pleasant. 10/10

31.12.24: My family and I travel from Bristol every few months just for the balti and service. We have also taken friends who have also enjoyed their food. It's nice to be welcomed so warmly like an old friend, well i suppose we are, especially as my husband has been coming here since 1988. The food has always been outstanding along with the friendly, efficient service. The family size naan is our favourite accompaniment with our baltis. This establishment is a bring your own alcohol but they do serve soft drinks and you always get bottles of water on your table which are replenished throughout your meal. It's nice to have the choice to bring alcohol if you wish but I'm quite happy with water or soft drinks. I look forward to our next visit.

Absolutely amazing place to eat, food was fresh, hot and tasty. Atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were exemplary. But shout out to Imaan for looking after us and making our night so good.

Good service and very good quality food, tasted freshly cooked from quality ingredients. Unique amongst many other examples of this cuisine. Do not sell alcohol, but invite guests to use the very handy local off-licence nearby and provide glasses and bottle openers as required.

Always walked past but hadn't ventured in until today. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere despite it being busy with several large tables. Food was lovely, some unique dishes and house specials - but even the traditional ones seem to have a twist. Will be back soon I think!

We ordered the mixed grill. As Asians, we unfortunately found the food extremely tasteless. This restaurant is probably very fine for non-Asians. No faults with decor, atmosphere, service and cleanliness. But unfortunately my culinary taste buds were left craving for authentic indian food.

I had my first ever Brum balti here, and it was delicious! Service was great and quick, food came out piping hot and tasted great. Portions really good for the price. Also had the Lassawalla Gosht as it was recommended and it was definitely worth it; the lamb was so tender and juicy! Loved the naan bread too. Highly recommend

Delicious spicy curries. Lamb was so tender on the lamb madras that I had. Very friendly staff, but they did forget a drink that I had ordered. Lychee blush mock tail and mango lassi drinks were amazing!

Enjoyed a fantastic meal as a group of six, delicious combination of chicken and fish dishes, well flavoured , with good levels of spice; and not over -sweet. Naan’s deserve a special mention; great and crispy. Even enjoyed a refreshing mango lassi on the side. Overall a lovely meal out.

Superb Balti house, beautiful fresh curries and the naans are just next level. I had their Balti Madras and a Peshwari and Honey Naan, thought I was going to burst but the food is so moreish you can’t leave a bite. So reasonably priced as well, £24 for a proper evening meal and a drink is excellent in a big city. Would definitely go again.

Wonderful atmosphere! Such friendly staff who serve food quality, authentic, food value yet innovative dishes. We LOVE the massive naan, can’t see the family on the other side of the table! Been coming for years and keep coming back! The kids love it too, feels like family

The food is amazing I would really recommend trying matka gosht so much flavour with an authentic taste unlike many curry houses who lack that real flavour for their dishes. Ambience is nice and relaxing not like other curry houses out there. The staff are attentive providing excellent customer service. We will definitely be back!

Great restaurant that is often busy and you can see why. Good selection of dishes including some i havent seen elsewhere, which can be tailored to your spice levels. Good value and consistently high quality. Unlicensed so you can bring your own drinks.

I tried the Kashmiri fish and chips to try the fusion food and the dish was amazing. The spices were beautiful and came with the tastiest masala wedges I've had. Portions were huge and everyone was happy with the taste, quantity and quality of their food. Service was also great here - waiters and staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and are also willing to recommend dishes. Would recommend this restaurant!

A warm friendly welcome from all staff, very attentive and efficient throughout the meal, adding a nice rhythm and flow of customers in and out during the evening, there’s a great selection of classics and originals, food was punctual and delightful from start to end and is definitely a place we’ll return to!

Wanted to go here for years then my parents treated me to a meal here. They eat curries often and said it was the best curry they’d had . We all agreed the food was beautiful and customer service was great too. We will be returning
