Staying in Crakehall for the New Year’s holiday, we had yet another perfect takeaway from Saffron in Leyburn. Yes, there are closer Indian restaurants (we drove 10 miles to get there) but none as good. Friendly service, hearty portions reasonable prices and early bird deals before 19.00 or discount if you can pay cash. We visited twice in May 2024 and came back on New Year’s Day. Hope to visit again later in 2025. Highly recommended.

Where to start. Order for 4 naans. Was informed 30 minutes for collection. Not ready for another 15 minutes. Fair enough it was NYE. Apology would be good. Charged £17 and paid. Seamed expensive and while waiting asked for a menu. “None available they’re online” chap said. Their web page is very confusing. No straight forward menu button. Takes 4 steps to reach (interested if other reviewers found the same). Proprietor very argumentative when this was politely mentioned. Has some great 5 star reviews? They almost sound as if they are professional paid for ones. Naans small but tasted good. HNY!!!

We are a group of 6 on holiday near Leyburn and we ordered takeaway food. We’d read some mixed reviews so weren’t sure what to expect but were very pleasantly surprised. Our order was ready on time, the staff were very friendly and interested in us and every single dish was delicious. We had poppadoms and onion bhajis to start then a mix of curries including vegetarian, chicken and venison dishes plus some sides, rice and Nan breads. The quality of the food was very high and prices very reasonable. We would all highly recommend this restaurant.

Just went to get a takeaway from this so-called restaurant, only to be shamelessly scammed right in front of my eyes. The prices online seem reasonable at first, but when it came time to pay, I was slapped with an absolutely ridiculous and inflated total that made no sense whatsoever. When I questioned it, the man serving me literally started trembling, fumbling for words, and spouting a pathetic excuse about the amount of food I’d ordered. It was beyond obvious he had no clue how to cover up their blatant attempt to overcharge me by £15. The menus in the restaurant? No prices on them at all—just one conveniently hidden behind the till with outrageously inflated numbers they use to “justify” their con. And even then, the prices didn’t match up. They were clearly just making it up as they went along. This place is an absolute disgrace. It’s not just bad business—it’s straight-up theft. Do not waste your time or money here unless you enjoy being lied to, disrespected, and blatantly robbed. The food? Mediocre at best. Not even close to being worth the aggravation. This place is nothing short of a scam.

We decided to go in for a family meal and glad we did. Had the mixed grill and donner and the meat was cooked perfectly. Portion sizes are large. Great value for money.

First time in Leyburn, lovely evening and lots of people eating. We tried to get into a pub but was very busy and couldn’t guarantee being able to take an order. This turned into very good news for us. We decided to try the Saffron just across the square from the pub. We were stunned by the great choice of fish dishes on offer. The best anywhere for a very long time……. We were touring the area but actually come from north Devon so eating fish isn’t unusual. We weren’t disappointed with any of the 4 dishes we had. Shame we weren’t staying longer but this will be remembered and noted for the next time we are in the area. We might even make it a reason to come back!

First time visiting since the new owners took over,all I can say is wow,if you haven’t visited yet,do it,the food was fantastic,the staff were great,we were both had a starter (chicken liver) that was worthy of being a main course,by the time we’d eaten that we knew doggy bags were inevitable,the main course was delicious and I’m looking forward to mine later on

Called in today for a takeaway, staff very friendly and helpful. Ordered and then went across road to Golden Lion for a drink. Returned in 30 minuets and all was ready for collection. Back at the caravan was delighted with what we had ordered. Thank you Saffron for a very enjoyable meal.

After a long day of walking at the Yorkshire Dale, we were all tired and wanted something to eat. Found this restaurant after being recommended it by one of the locals. I have to say, I was not expecting to find such a hidden gem like this. The service at the door was great and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. They seated us promptly and Ali in particular treated us with great care. I had to say the Lamb Hasina was unreal and it really hit the spot. I will definitely be coming back here again. Took some visiting family for a meal at Saffron. Chose a variety of starters and mains between us and everyone commented how delicious the various dishes were and how generous the portions were. Service was very attentive and friendly and welcoming.

We visited here on the 29th October. First of all food tasted ok, nothing special and certainly not premium quality as they claim. I have eaten Indian food all over the UK and the world and this food is at best average.Now for the price. We had 4 poppadoms and a pickle tray, 2 rice's, 1veg side, 1 nan 2 mains and 1 bottle of beer and a coke and the price came to £72.85. This is absolute robbery. There are no prices on the menus (red flag). It would appear they just changed what the hell they like. I am not one for complaining but the best thing to do with this place is AVOID AVOID AVOID.q by

Upon being questioned, the man serving me quite literally began to tremble as he stumble to explain why my total was £15 more than expected, and proceeded to try and make a poor excuse regarding the amount of food I’d ordered. The menus given in the restraunt have no prices, only one guarded behind the till with terribly inflated prices on that they try to use to defend themselves (the prices STILL didn’t add up despite this tactic). Would only recommend if you fancy having a man lie to your face and try to scam your hard-earnt money out of your pocket. The food was okay.

Using Saffron Indian Restaurant's website we ordered a number of starters, mains, rice dishes and naans over the phone at 5.30pm when the service opened. After completing the order we asked for the price but was told that they needed to check it out and would send us a text. We were told that the order would be delivered about 7pm to our cottage a few miles down the road. The order was duly delivered around 7pm but no billing was provided. The next day £157.50 was deducted from my brother-in-law's credit card. We never received the promised text message. When we checked the costs detailed on the website we estimated that the total cost should be £124.45 so phoned through to challenge the cost. We were told that the prices listed on the website had a 20% discount for those customers who collected their order. This is very misleading as the website seems to imply that 20% will be applied afterwards not that it has already been applied. The full price does not appear at all on the website. This lack of transparency is misleading and very unfair. This experience has spoilt what has been a very good holiday. Checking TripAdvisor we are not the first to feel as though we have been badly treated. I will be pursuing the matter with Trading Standards at Northallerton as despite promising on TripAdvisor earlier this year that they would rectify this issue nothing has been done to publish the full price menu on their website.

This is our our third time here at the saffron with our dog Rory, the food has never failed us 😋, always lovely xx
