Fantastic little pub and hotel that we pulled up to for a night's stay. Gorgeous, welcoming, charming, and with llamas! Our room was comfortable, clean and warm, with nice touches in the tea tray. An absolute bonus (besides the llamas) was that breakfast was included in the price of our stay and it was DELICIOUS. Very happy customers and couldn't recommend the place more. All the staff were very friendly.

We came as a party of 4 and we all decided to go for the Sunday Lunch , the meals all looked good but unfortunately the roast potatoes had garlic on them which completely ruined it for one of our friends who dislikes garlic with a passion, The menu didn’t state that the potatoes would have garlic on them and when we were asked if we were enjoying our meals we pointed out to the staff that in fact a couple of the party weren’t due to the garlic.. Both the young lady and the young lad who asked basically said “ oh okay, sorry about that, I’ll let the chef know what you have said “ and that was it. We could all taste the garlic and the waiter confirmed that the potatoes were sprinkled with some type of garlic powder/salt. I do think that if your food contains garlic then you should mention that in the menu write up as it ruined our experience sadly.

We stayed here for three nights as we were visiting family over Christmas. This was such a lovely stay and the staff were so warm, friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean, tidy, and had the all the amenities that we needed, including a private entrance so that we could come and go without bothering the pub. The Christmas lunch we had was a three course meal and it was all absolutely amazing, no faults at all, all very delicious and good drinks options too! The general manager ( unfortunately I didn't catch her name) was absolutely amazing. She was working for the whole three days straight and was so professional considering how hard and long she was working. Well done to her and all the team that made our Christmas extra special. We hope to return soon when visiting family again.

Booked a table, someone was sat on it (no reservation sign) had to move them off for us to sit down. No menu’s brought over or drinks asked for. Had to get up and ask after nearly 15 mins after arriving. Food was brought out quite fast, asked for sauces. Brought out wrong ones, had to get up and ask for correct sauces. Food was pretty tasty, and nice and hot. Music was put on, very loud, had to get up to ask for it to be lowered (lunchtime service). Food was nice, service and ambiance absolutely rubbish. Wasn’t busy. Very disappointed with it being Christmas Eve, and a treat for my parents. Really never like to make a fuss, but was pretty crap. Food no problem, reading some other reviews, service looks like a problem here and needs addressing. Staff were young and obviously need mentoring and training.

We really didn’t enjoy our family Christmas meal here. The service was very slow, no one checked on our food. The portion sizes were not big enough for the prices we paid. The kids meal was very dry and not appealing at all. The menu descriptions did not match what came out on the plate, really disappointing for a place that, in the past, had a good reputation.

We travel here regularly in our motorhome from our home in whitby North Yorkshire, stopping overnight and catching up with family. I have reviewed this place and its staff a few times now, I must say the venue remains consistently lovely, clean tidy and very much welcoming. On the evening of the 9th December the four of us enjoyed a really really good Christmas dinner set menu for a very reasonable price. The serving staff including Ella were once again attentive and lovely, making you feel very much at home. Breakfast in the morning was again excellent, generous portions for the price, the front of house staff again friendly approachable and helpful, especially Nicky. A special BIG Shout out and thanks to the breakfast chef MARTIN, a great well presented and piping hot breakfast Thankyou we will definitely continue calling here through the year Merry Christmas to you all including MEG

Visited this afternoon and were taken to a table set up for afternoon tea which is not what we ordered, although the staff member insisted that was correct. She said it was no problem to have the normal menu but then she disappeared completely, another staff member eventually then brought us the lunch menu, this was also not what we wanted but she said she would bring the main menu, which she finally did and took our drinks menu. After a good 10 mins wait there was no sign of anyone coming to take our order or any sign of the drinks being brought although I could see them sitting on the bar. We finally decided enough was enough and walked out. The place was almost empty and goodness knows what would happen if they were busy. Never again.

Unfortunately we had quite a disappointing experience at The Saracens Head - specifically the service let it down. We dined with our family to celebrate my Mum’s birthday. My parents were the first to arrive and were told by a male front of house staff member (who was yawning whilst speaking to them) that the table was only booked for 2 people. Once the rest of the party arrived, my brother approached the front of house team to show them the booking confirmation that our booking was for 6 people and they stated that this was an error with a third party booking system. However we were very grateful that they were able to accommodate us. The first waitress to serve us had quite a poor attitude and was a little too confident and over friendly and actually really quite sarcastic, which at times was a little overpowering and inappropriate. Our food arrived which admittedly was good! The young male front of house member who served our main meals asked if we wanted any sauces etc and we then asked if we could order more drinks - we then noticed he walked off and rolled his eyes. Again - poor attitude! We ordered desserts - £8.50 for the tiniest, flattest sticky toffee pudding ever (see photos). Once our plates had been cleared, we sat at our table for a good 45 minutes whilst the front of house staff closed down the restaurant around us and totally ignored us. We asked for the bill and the female front of house member (I assume to be a manager) asked us how our evening was, to which we were a bit hesitant and made it clear that we weren’t too pleased. She never asked any further questions or acknowledge this and allow us the opportunity to explain how we felt about our experience. We gave her another chance to rectify this by asking to take the service charge off - something we have never done before and actually felt really quite harsh in doing so, but we didn’t feel a service charge was warranted and this was the final chance. This was quite awkward when paying the bill, especially when we were not asked why this was. We left the venue and felt that this member of staff was a little disdainful when we said goodbye etc. This is a real shame and I am not one to complain, nor leave a poor review. However, I wanted to take the opportunity to raise my complaints as I was not given the opportunity to do so during our visit. It seems like this place is being ran by inexperienced, young members of staff with a slight lack of respect for their paying customers.

We choose this restaurant due to it having a Sunday roast menu that went on into the evening, other restaurants in the area finished serving at 5pm, so a positive start. We arrived at just before 6pm and were a family of 4. The table we were seated on was fairly small for the size of us, with food, table water and drinks it was tight. A minor point but worth considering when larger tables had two people dining. Ordered within a good time and were served within 20 minutes. Good menu and the children’s menu had good variety. The two Sunday roasts we ordered were really good, a huge Yorkshire pudding, excellent vegetables and the beef was great. I ordered cauliflower cheese and it came with extra vegetables. My two children had a burger and chicken fillets which they enjoyed. Have to say I really enjoyed my Sunday roast and left full, definitely will return.

We waited and waited for our breakfast and decided 45 minutes and no one updating us when we had asked where our food was, was too poor. We left. Some observations - there are lots of staff but they are incredibly young. There always used to be someone clearly older and experienced who was in charge and directing things. Not now. Absent the missing food the coffee was less than lukewarm - unacceptably so. We were stood waiting for around 5 mins when we arrived before anyone came over to seat us. I think that is crap. If someone goes to the bar and says ‘look we have been waiting over half an hour’ the right way to deal with it is not to argue and say that your system says it is only 20 minutes. For completeness I was being kind at 30 mins - it was longer - and I strongly suspect that your system said ‘only’ 20 mins because the young thing that took our order got distracted after and didn’t input our order in until later. Also when you say you are going into the kitchen to check where the food is and how long it will be, don’t go for a chat with your mate at the end of the bar. Also then don’t sulk off into the kitchen when you see I haven’t moved and am waiting/watching you and then come out and not come over and update me. All in all it was absolutely amateur hour. If you run the place with kids then you get kids level of service. I am local and a massive fan Saracen’s Head and Weston Hall. I won’t be back for a while and I will post this review where I can. It is a shame to see somewhere that has been so decent go on the slide.

It felt like we were being pestered and it wasn't relaxing at all. Also the waitress was not very engaging and made us feel we were an inconvenience. The food was below average and not what I was expecting. Had the mozzarella, tomato and basil pesto sandwich and posh chips, which was absolutely drenched in balsamic sauce which completely overwhelmed the taste, the sandwich was one very small slice of sourdough bread . We have visited before and it was an excellent experience but unfortunately not this time. The service was extremely poor. we waited over 40 mins for our mains and when we asked about them they suddenly arrived. The food had obviously been waiting at the pass because my tartar sauce was beginning to curdle and the mushy peas had a film on them. We had to ask for dessert menus and after a 15 mins wait for someone to come and take our order we decided not to. There was a service charge automatically put onto the bill which we asked to be taken off in light of the poor service. I would recommend the food but suggest that the waiting staff be given designated tables. 3 different people eventually attended to us which was very inefficient.

We spent a night in their car park in our 7m long Motorhome, didn’t need to book just turn up and let them know of your arrival. They suggested where to park for the night, don’t park in front of either of the gates to the rear of the side car park! We accessed the canal via the gateway which is slightly hidden at the end of the little road in front of the row of beautiful white cottages! ( turn right as the canal footpath is slightly better for dog walking and does go further for the longer walk!) Dogs are invited but only in the stone floored part of the main bar, the front section accessed through the main front door! (The door to the side with the ramp leads to the main bar then turn right) We had a pleasant pint of cider & a large glass of wine for my wife in the rear beer garden which was large before calling it a night, had already eaten so instead we had their mini breakfast prior to leaving which was tasty and set us up for the final days travel onwards to the Lake District…, The pub was of a high standard and service was very good, very helpful and informative staff and highly recommended stop over if passing or in the area! Fairly easy to get too but not this week as it’s the local yearly County fair which meant long traffic quotes getting there and getting back to the M6!

We had Sunday lunch here. Awesome location, lovely drive out. Parking is a bit limited so probably best to get here early. Very welcoming and friendly staff (great service all round). Very dog friendly. The choice of food and wine was very good and we enjoyed the wines we had. The food was a little hit and miss. Some of the dishes were great (the roast lamb and the cheese platter) but my roast beef was a bit disappointing, only one piece of beef (most places you get at least two) and the roast potatoes were very overcooked. There were plenty of fresh veges though, so that was good. My Partner's pizza was a bit flavourless with lots of onion that he had to scrape off but because of the great service and cozy ambience I would certainly give this another try.

Had lunch here meeting some friends, this was recommended by other friends. Dog friendly with a menu which I've attached. Great food, service was ok. Worked out £175 for 6 of us. 3 x starters, 6 x mains, 4 x desserts, 2 alcoholic drinks rest were soft drinks. Which isn't too bad, saw some meals priced more than we pay at restaurants in Manchester.

I had a meal at the Saracens head with four friends last night, three of us had the Beef Salad and I must say the food was awful, the salad had no dressing, was dry and the beef was tough, we did mention this to the waitress but there wasn’t any discussion about any discount taken of the bill, I thought for £17 this was not acceptable, especially for a salad, but you were happy to charge a service charge on top, so very very disappointing as have eaten at you’re restaurant before with no question on the food.

Perfect place to stay after we went to the shire show as only up the road from the show ground. The staff couldn’t do enough for you even though they were so busy. Food (dinner & breakfast) was spot on and the room was fantastic as well.

We held our fathers funeral reception at Saracens and we couldn't have picked a better place. The venue felt warm, cosy and premium. The food was fresh and tasty but still felt good value. And I can't say enough about the team, all of them were helpful, professional and friendly. Anything we needed, they sorted. Amazing. Big thank you from our family and friends for helping to celebrate my dad. We will definitely be returning again.

A good evening meal and breakfast in a lovely setting. We stayed overnight in our motorhome. Fish and chips were excellent, and we considered it good value. However, the small ramekin of curry sauce seemed very overpriced for what it was.

Great Sunday roast, good selection on the menu if you don't want a roast dinner as well. Also catered for our dog in the bar with his own roast dinner and dog beer. The food quality was excellent and well priced for what we had. Staff were friendly and service was good for a busy Sunday. Will be keen to return and try the standard menu. Dog visitors suggest you book in advance for a bar table when visiting. It's also right next to the canal so you can walk off your over eating after!

Came for 2 steak lunches today firstly the service waiting time for food was very poor as the pub was virtually empty. Ordered 2 rump steak meals and at £26.50 plus £3.50for sauce expected them to be really good. But reality they were very poor chips were not cooked correctly and my partner asked for a medium steak that came rare very poor for the money charged.Service girl very helpful but the lady running the restaurant just wanted our money and did not even apologise for the wait and the poor food quality. Will not be visiting again if you are going to change £30 For steak it needs to be good

Went for breakfast with my partner and its was OK. Could be a little better for 9.95. Everything was very over cooked, looked deep fried even the bacon. All except my black pudding with was basically raw, some people like that but it's not for me. My 2 coffees weren't warm.enough to dissolve the sugar.

My wife and I came in this evening for a couple of drinks and something to eat. I ordered a pizza and wife ordered a duck salad.I was so disappointed when I received the pizza, it was a meat feast pizza. On the pizza there were little shapes of processed meats and tasted very much like your average takeaway pizza. I later found out that it was a Papa John's pizza brand inside the restaurant. This was not advertised on the menu and if I had known this I definitely would not of ordered it. if I'd of wanted a Papa John's pizza I would of orders one. I expected so much more from the Saracens head. What happened to the nice stone baked homemade pizzas?

Ordered a family Take Away Roast Dinner for Mothering Sunday. Order Process was easy enough over the phone a few days prior & there was a great choice of available meats & accompaniments including all the trimmings you'd expect with a restaurant served Roast Dinner. The Pigs in Blankets were awesome! The food was marvellous, meat absolutely perfect, we had turkey, Lamb & beef between us & all was lovely & well packaged for the short journey home. Will definitely be ordering again or infact going to book for a meal in the restaurant when we're allowed again as have previously only been to the Sarecens Head for Breakfast meal times.I also plan to try one of The Saracens Heads other themed take away nights sometime soon, great menu and choice available. The Saracens Head has provided us a no hassle quality Sunday Roast Meal, despite it being Mothering Sunday which I'm sure was a busy day for them. It's definitely saved me having to spend a whole Sunday cooking the family Roast which wouldn't of been as good! The collection process was easy enough too, all in all a great take away experience. Thanks guys. 5*'s awarded for sure.

We visited The Saracens Head for the first time at the weekend and whilst we all enjoyed what we ate.. (particularly the cookie dough desert), it was disappointing if not a little embarrassing that the two vegetarians in our party had no Sunday lunch choice at all.We had to effectively order a meat Sunday lunch....without the meat!!It was basically a plate of vegetables with a Yorkshire pudding.Such a nice venue and such a poor decision to ignore vegetarians wanting a more traditional Sunday meal. This alone will force us to look elsewhere sadly.

We called here today for some lunch and were warmly greeted by both staff and locals alike. Dog friendly pub where our hound was well looked after with water, treats and a cuddle. The food was absolutely delicious with particular praise for the Moo Blue Pie with chips and peas with the whole two meals and drinks coming to a very reasonable £30. Would thoroughly recommend this beautiful establishment and staff. See you again soon we hope.

Visited for a club Christmas meal, left very disappointed. Manager was moaning we had all come in our own cars and the car park was full, that was before we had got in there. Garlic mushrooms were hard and the main was bland, hard roasties and turkey was very dry. Desert was the best part of the meal, banoffee pie. Staff were attentive until they had served the mains and then they disappeared. I think they were busy organising their own meals as they were sat down eating when we left. If this is how they treat their customers then you can understand why they're all closing. If you've got a party of 13, surely the food and service should be impeccable🤔. If not, those 13 people go away and mention it to at least 3 or 4 more people and then your reputation has been ruined. 🙄 Beautiful pub though, just needs improvements.

We went as a family (9 of us)for Christmas Day dinner. The food was lovely- plenty of it and well cooked. The staff were very welcoming and happy to help, i.e finding an out of the way place to store a wheelchair for us. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A few more staff would have been a bonus for special occasions such as Christmas, but aside from that it was very good.
