Simply Indian in Southwark

We were craving for dosa so looked for a place nearby and found this one... We ordered two masala dosa and were surprised to see dosa was served with some weird chutney and daal (lentil) ...no coconut chutney at all....in my entire life i never had dosa with daal..dosa and daal were bland... and chutney had weird taste.. when I enquired about it the manager replied they serve dosa.. don't think these ppl even know how to cook indian food... we could barely eat one and left one uneaten....gladly he didn't charge us and requested not to put reviews online.. don't recommend this place for dosa atleast...

We booked supper for a large family gathering on a weekday evening. Abu Choudhury and his team laid on a delicious spread of Indian food (chicken makhani, chicken jalfrezi, lamb and spinach curry, aloo gobi, tadka dall, pilau rice, naan breads) and provided excellent service during the evening. We were able to bring our own alcoholic drinks with no corkage charge, which meant it was a very reasonably priced evening.

This is a real gem, the food is a cut above the regular, fresh, tasty not oily. The decor is bit rough round the edges, the owner is a character, it's all good. BYO and super friendly. Love it.

Not Recommended - Disappointing Experience I visited this restaurant for the first time and was thoroughly disappointed. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly, but that’s where the good experience ended. We waited for over 20 minutes before anyone came to even offer us the menu. During this time, we were only given complimentary chips, which, by the way, were later added to the bill without any prior mention. The service was slow, and it felt like they had no regard for customer attention. While the chips were a nice gesture, the lack of communication and overall delayed service ruined the experience. To top it off, the food didn’t meet expectations, with no real "Indian" taste or authenticity. Definitely not worth the visit—there are better places that offer both service and quality Indian cuisine. Will not be returning.

The food was absolutely amazing. Such complex and delicious flavours! The ambiance in the restaurant was very cosy and the service was good. In earlier reviews we read about the prices differing from the menu but we still thought it was a very good price/quality ratio and not expensive at all. Some reviewers also complained about a minimum order amount, but this is just one main dish per customer which seems very fair for a BYOB restaurant. So the food is amazing, prices are good, overall we definitely recommend!!

We had a quiet evening sitting. Eclectic music. Food was exceptional - rich, flavoursome, spicy. Would *highly* recommend!

Absolutely delicious. Real home style cooking,great vada with sambol. Lamb madras and Goat karai was fabulous too.

A small very authentic South Indian restaurant with a great selection on the menu for a surprisingly low price. Definitely recommend if you are nearby and looking for great food for a reasonable price.

Splendid! The best curry I can remember having outside Birmingham and Manchester. Goat curry was freshly cooked and succulently spiced, not the all too often encountered one sauce fits all… In a word, wonderful. I’m already planning a return visit, despite not living The Smoke.

I ordered 3 peshwari naans and 3 plain naans for takeaway. Per their menu the peshwari are £2.50. When I got the bill (after a 40 minute wait) I was told by the chef he could only do 5 of the breads but the price was £18. When I queried this he said the menu is a few years old and that the prices have gone up (£4 per Peshwari). This is more than buying naans using Deliveroo etc. Hardly an apology. We have also had their lamb dish in the past which was average for the price.

PRICES ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE MENU Every item that was ordered differed in price from the menu. Chickpea samosas were 3.50, but we were charged 4.50 Old Delhi was 9, but I was charged 11.95. Food was actually pretty decent, but update the menu cause the prices are 20-30% higher and youll get a rude shock when presented with the bill. They hand you chips at the start which are also chargeable at 2.40, but you would think it is included like how other reataurants give you bread. Absolute scam, stay away.

Never arrived and then put down as delivered

we donot have food yet . I have called the restaurant 10 times.no app says they have delivered the food which I never received

On justeat Simply indian stated it would take 20-35 minutes to be delivered. I paid at 8.35pm and got my order at 9.49pm. If I knew it would take over and hour I would have gone to my local indian takeaway

Quiet night on a Tuesday, but lovely food, really nice south Indian cuisine. Not oily at all and very competitive prices. Great for afterwork meal.

This place is a real hidden gem, quality food reasonably priced nothing artificial or heavy about it will be back to try all the menu

I've been twice, once dining alone early for a very relaxed and very good thali, enjoying the quiet aspect of the location. Soon after for a end of season cricket dinner of 16 guys on a Saturday 8pm on which was superbly hosted by Abu and team. We were treated to a selection of dishes all very tasty and top notch service. The value is exceptional. Our brief speeches and mild revelry were kindly tolerated. Go for a pint in the Royal Oak opposite before where they also serve takeout bottles of the excellent Harveys beers, which you can bring in the Simply Indian (no corkage). I shall return to Simply Indian, I really appreciate them. The food is well beyond your normal UK Indian takeaways, with incentive and flavourful menu.

Went for a group meal. Great friendly service, food was excellent and had a great time.

Lovely place. The lamb in saag is to die for. But also, the chick peas, chicken Karahi and prawns in an ever so slightly sweet sauce are all truly delicious.

Simply good and welcome. Good choice, not dear. We always like coming here. Bring your own alcohol, even from Harvey’s Old Oak opposite (no corkage charge). Recommended.

Simply Indian exceeded expectations. The food was fresh, delicious and didn't disappoint. BYO was a big plus as we were able to get one of favourite Aussie wines from Tesco around the corner which complemented the food brilliantly. We loved it! For a small family run restaurant, I would say it punched above it's weight.

Und für die Qualität (und London) waren die Preise absolut angemessen. Wenn man in London ist und die Küche Indiens genießen will, ist dieses Restaurant eine gute Adresse. Wir hatten einen tollen Abend und haben dabei viel Neues kennengelernt. Wir können "Simply Indian" absolut empfehlen. Es ist ein sehr kleines Restaurant mit nur wenigen Tischen, deshalb würden wir eine Reservierung empfehlen. Außerdem gibt es einen Mindesbestellmenge - nur eine Vorspeise bestellen geht nicht. Das war aber auch der einzige Minuspunkt.

La comida aquí es excepcional. Pequeño Restaurante secreto escondido en las calles laterales de Borough es todo un hallazgo. Posiblemente el restaurante a un precio más razonable en todo Londres. La cocina tradicional india no es la tontería anglicana de muchos en todo el Reino Unido, la comida aquí es genial. Have been to this restaurant 3 or 4 times, now, and the taste of everything really does not disappoint. The Goan Chicken dish had a wonderfully fresh and lightly spicy taste - so different to anything you will have had, I suspect. The parathas were not too buttery and were a very nice change to other more usual breads. It’s a small but really very nice place to spend an hour or two with really good, but different, food. Go there now!

We had a worst experience, first of all it’s not an Indian restaurant, the waiter was so rude, he was just throwing the plate and dishes we ordered, spoons were not been washed, and whole place was stinking

i used to be a regular at this place when it first opened ..... more than 15 years ago. back then it was just amazing, the food was the best curry id ever had. recently back in the same area and i took visiting family there..... and it still is just amazing. food is just excellent and way above usual indian restaurant standard, the restaurant is so clean, the tables well spaced even though its a small intimate restaurant. so we all went back again the next week too. highly recommend this place, it does not disappoint. simply excellent.

Fantastic place for a bite! So much like a home kitchen. Great tasting food, tender lamb and chicken with complex sauces. And the naan! wow never had it so good! Good thing it's around the corner from our rented apartment. So unfair the comments about the clearly explained minimum order. The fares are soooo reasonable!

The food was really tasty and different from your standard chicken tikka masala curry house, the goat was particularly good. Service was good, although there were a few items off the menu.

Simply Indian is a gem of a place. Small menu, solid dishes and a byob in the heart of Borough. I’ve been coming for years and the quality of the food initially dipped after the pandemic but it’s now back to top form. And it's ever so pleasant to eat a nice meal using a proper table cloth and linen napkins, highly recommended.

Really good Indian food in a small friendly restaurant right near Borough station. I've eaten there a few times recently and not been disappointed. Bring your own alcohol is easy with a 24 hour shop just round the corner, and there is no silly corkage charge. Just had a great evening there.

Really solid Indian! Have no complaints. Jalfrezi was nice and had a great complex flavour. The sauces were really nice and tasted very homemade. Great service and friendly staff.

20 minutes of waiting, only one other table occupied and no one takes our order we walk out. Not the best.

Wonder why none of the good reviews are from Indians? It's because this is NOT Indian food! This is bangladeshi food and that too not good at all. There are much better Indian restaurants available in the city.

A small restaurant located nearby Borough station where you can try Indian cuisine at reasonable price. Food was served quickly and it was tasty (tiger shimps, samosa, shredded chicken, fried rice, jasmin tea). If you like Indian food you will be satisfied.

The food did not get delivered

Been coming here for a few years & love its informal authenticity. The menu is varied & interesting & not your usual chicken tikka masala. Bring your own booze, catch up with friends & eat delicate, tasty South Indian grub.

This is a fantastic restaurant! The food is really authentic South Indian cuisine. The sauces are fragrant and light, not overwhelming and oily as they are in most Indian restaurants. A delightful array of exquisite dishes await. I can't wait to return. Bring your own bottle to boot!

DO NOT EAT HERE. Sadly, it was extremely bad. It was by far the worst curry I’ve ever had. To make matters worse, after we left, we realised we were overcharged by over £7. I will be reporting this restaurant to trading standards if we do not get a refund of the overcharged amount.

I went on my first date with my colleague and things got HOT just from the menu…the goat was the GOAT and the prawns were juicy and steamy! 100% recommend if you want a spicy night! P.S bring some prossie if you wanna be a prossie !! Xxxx

A great restaurant for an informal night out with friends. We visited over Easter weekend with a group of 6. The menu was very different from the standard Indian fare with many dishes not familiar to us. However the food was fantastic with the goat and mutton options highly recommended. We will certainly be returning.

Great curries, starters, BYOB, really tasty. Mutton was great. Jalfrezi was hot. Service was great. 5 stars.

This is a top, top place. The daal makhani was excellent, so was the grill and the karahi curry. They do momo dumplings, which are rare in London, which were great value and it’s BYO!!! Our new favourite place!

This place has an amazing indian food with the real essence of Indian flavors.Must visit place if anyone comes to London tower bridge. Staff is very descent chef has a great taste in his hand I've been there 3 days constantly for dinner every time he took food to the next level taste wise and so presentable.

We weren't even greeted when we entered , I had to go into to the kitchen to let them know we wanted to order, they had to prepare takeaway orders before . The owner was unhelpful with regard to ordering. We ordered two goat curries but he brought one mutton curry . The sauce was like soup, hot and spicy with no depth of flavour, meat was unpsectscular. Naan was soggy and fried, no tandoor oven here, rice was bland. Owner wasn't keen on bring me a glass of tap water . Absolute disaster , a true abomination. Abhorrent . On par with brick lane . Loaded with onions, lazy uninspired cooking. Why oh why would you operate an establishment like this!? Left feeling absolutely bereft. My soul has been sucked out of my body and I'm an empty shell of a man. I can't go on any more. This is the end my friend . They can't even bring the bill!!

Fantastic food! As much as I love Indian food, I have to admit after having a meal at Simply Indian that the Indian food that I have previously eaten (which has been A LOT!) now seems corporate in contrast! The food here tastes like something you would expect in an Indian home. When we turned up the chef admitted he wasn't ready to take out order and said to come back in half an hour. Admittedly, this might not be the best business approach, but we appreciated his honestly, and to be honest the food was well worth the wait. In short, turn up well in to their business hours and you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious indian food! One of the tastiest indian restaurants I've ever been to and I go to alot! The atmosphere was lovely and the staff very attentive. The flavour of the Naada and garlic chicken dishes were unreal.

Amazing food, the chef deserves a Michelin star! The minimum order size that some reviewers complained about is clearly explained on the menu and the reason for it. This is a small establishment with a limited number of tables so they can't survive on snack dinners alone; I did not find this unreasonable. For me the best curry I've had in the UK outside of Bradford!

Just placed a Togo order, when I bring home found the goat curry $18/kg only a little includes soup and veg maybe nearby 1kg, the meat only 3counts, and I have also ordered his recommended curry chicken, only meat in the curry soup nothing else, without rice.

Great place! Fantastic spot the food is tasty and brought out very fast , great customer service. Authentic Indian Food. We ordered the Kofta Fish Thali and Delhi Chai and it tasted delicious and also making the experience even better :-)

Banging food, great staff, perfect byob curry

I came with my wife and I feel server was not want to serve us. He was forcefully asking us to take two different meal when I ordered him one northern thali and 2 sides and add on chapati. I felt very bad with his behavior and didn't feel to eat there.

Ordered to collect chicken korma was lovely, starter for 2 and chicken jalfrezi was terrible all you could taste was salt what a waste

The food was delicious and the owner was so kind. I had the lamb dharma and I was sooo good. Highly recommend the naan.
