Southend Plaice Fish & Chips in Gateshead

Very disappointed! Went for the large Doner kebab, the potion size was so small a fraction of the normal size. Think it's time to start looking at other fish shops

Went in last week lady put chips in a shallow white polystyrene tray with about 15 chips i took one look and just said no thanks and wslked out couldnt believe the portion size really poor low fell from now on shocking ive gone there since it opened ,no more

Does what it says. It's fish and chips. Fish was decent, lots of chips, which were tasty. Traditional curry sauce which was also ok. Service was excellent. Longsands in Tynemouth is my comparison here for the food, which stands head and shoulders above. I would also say the fish at Low Fell Fish bar is probably better too.

First ever visit last night for fish and chips on way home from work. I live 6 miles away and have tried many fish and chip places which have generally been ok or poor. I can honestly say these were absolutely faultless 👍😋 Best fish and chips Ive had in a long time. I am not easily pleased ! Will return for sure - fantastic ! Thankyou

Ordered fish and chips with 2 cartons of chilli sauce. The fish was grey. Not white. Chilli sauce looked horrible. Didn't eat any of it. Shocking food. Would never order anything again

Brilliant chippy, I work in the area for the local council and if I'm passing by and its a Friday no doubt I'm in here. Kebab wraps are lovely just miss the lunchtime specials 😋. Excellent staff very friendly.

Just visited tonight for the first time. Had a large cod. The fish was well cooked with nice crispy batter and the flesh was white and moist. Tasted delicious. It was also beautifully wrapped by the friendly member of staff who served me. Will definitely return. A fabulous traditional chippy that does it properly. Worth a visit 👍

I recently ate from here and i was excited to get my food but it turns out there was a hair in it which did not belong to me!! 😡😡 Furthermore, the garlic is super dry and leaves a weird aftertaste. On the other hand, chips were completely fine, will definitely not be eating here again😡😡

its normally pretty good but we put an order in last Friday to collect at 12.30 and the fish was swimming in oil not been drained at all no excuses we we gave the 30 minutes notice very disappointing and a waste of good money

Very poor service took ages although only 2 in shop when ordering. Expensive for what you get. No interaction by staff to customers, not even a thanks!!

I would not rate this at all called for fish and chips Friday 23rd December the cost being £20.60 so overpriced for what you get the fish was very skinny and the batter was chewy would not visit again

Good fishy, fried to order so nice n hot. Good batter on the fish which were a good size despite the current cost of living drama! Prices weren't too bad either. Was busy, but that's what you want to see in the fact that people are coming from all over to buy from there. Staff were top notch as well! 👍👍👍👍👍

Used this shop a few times not impressed when buying chips a while ago was 20p short in my purchase a rather large lady proceeded to take what she thought was the equivalent by unwrapping the chips and taking some out.more recently had a chat the chip fryer about being charged xtra for large chips when you don’t ask for them .he didn’t understand the question .i was then asked why i walked out a week ago when ordering a fish .only 1 member of staff serving on a Friday lunch time dealing with about 5 lads wanting kebabs and other things would have been there all day . Most importantly the food isn’t that nice will not be going back

Chips were hard and undercooked. Burger tasted off, the burger bun was stone cold and literally fell apart in my hands. Contacted them, saw they have seen my complaint and have totally ignored me.

The Chips were dry and hard and looked overcooked. The fishcake was very nice and the fish looked like it was on a diet and we will not be returning in a hurry.

Travelled Thursday night up from Manchester called at shop near closing time. The mince pie and chips were delicious. Lovely friendly staff. Greatly recommend

Review Update was 5* but after a number of visits the Fish has been medium size not larger as before, and the Kebab meat has really been poor quality putting me off visiting as normally I would, Kebab meat is no longer lines of juicy meat, but greasy small end bits. ________________________________________________________________________ Fabulous service from the girls and Fish and Chip like from the coast, keep it up. Chip are perfect and not under cook or greasey like others around.

Was looking for a nice fish and chip shop in Gateshead and this one had good reviews so thought we'd try it out. Had fish, chips, battered sausage and mushy peas and was delicious. Not as greasy as most fish and chips shops. Fish was lovely, sausage was lush, really good peas and the chips were just right. Nice and crispy and not soggy at all.

Well just drove past but give it 5 stars on what I have heard, had a bad experience last Good Friday 🤪 put a review on here, think I gave another, apologising, cos worse things in life than your fishing chip suppa not arriving, prob order one next year and hope for better 👍👍👍 Just way I was informed that night 😄

I'm not from Gateshead but when I'm there visiting relatives Southend Plaice is my go to chippy. Pleasant staff, big portions and fair prices.
