Great place and very friendly staff and management

Wow what addition to the local area, great atmosphere, great drinks and easily the best pub in the local area. Highly recommend popping in and experiencing for yourself. Quiz night was great fun.

Saw some negative reviews mainly around Christmas Eve, I wasn't there so can't comment on that, but for balance I wanted to say when my family go in there it's clear the landlord has great pride in the pub, staff have been chatty without overstepping, good amount of tables, great selection of beer and my daughters pool skills have improved with the well set up outdoor area. A few screens for the footie,(but Clay get that music off when the dulcet tones of the commentator's are on) I guess all I am saying is give it a go and make your own mind up.

Living in the village for 30 years, this pub always lacked something. Since the new landlord has taken over- he has it spot on!! The atmosphere is just perfect. It provides great entertainment and quick tasty snacky food. The staff always have a smile on their faces, despite being at work, on a busy Xmas eve. I for one think this is exactly what the village has been crying out for, for years. Well done to the new team

Feeling much like the other one star reviews. Would be happy to discuss reasons for this review if the management were willing to show understanding, instead of the ignorance/disregard demonstrated in previous replies. Recent 5 star reviews are mainly favoured regulars, who of course, had a very different experience to the rest of us.

Christmas Eve was awful. Entry fees for some but not others. Disrespectful to locals. Lovely bouncers & staff. Insecure new manager. Enough said.

We come here every year for Christmas Eve, as does the whole village, and we have done so for years. We really want the new owners of this pub to do better next year so that the tradition isn’t ruined. Usually we have a big countdown to midnight, tons of Christmas songs played inside, and the place is beyond packed. Last night they tried to charge us £5 entry (??!! To the village pub??!!) and hence it was less than half as busy as it usually is. They lost a lot of business by making this decision. Each person who actually paid £5 entry (it’s impossible to enforce so most people just snuck in without paying) does not offset the 50% of people who went to foresters/emperor instead and bought several drinks there. The music inside was terrible, not festive at all; there was consequently a bad vibe inside and most people wanted to sit outside but this was limited as bouncers were trying to stop people going outside. I felt really sorry for the bouncers, having to enforce such silly rules like “you can only sit outside if you’re smoking a cigarette”, on Christmas Eve. Really disappointed as this pub has changed hands a few times but Christmas Eve is always one of the best nights of the year - not this year. Fingers crossed for 2025!

As a resident local for over 25 years the new manager charged everyone £5 to enter on Christmas Eve 2024 (without any DJ or financial investment in the night) - He proceeded to selectively charge individuals to enter & prevented customers from sitting outside. When confronted about the questionably poor service he mouthed off & got aggressive with local, loyal, customers. The bouncers agreed with the entire outside venue & confessed they’d never work there again. The staff were lovely but the manager needs to take a long hard look at himself. Farnham Common be warned

A local of Farnham Common for decades, the new management have succeeded to underperform and fail to sympathise with locals since taking charge. Christmas Eve 2024 - the manager selectively charges paid entry to specific individuals yet in the same breath forces the considerable number of individuals drinking within the smoking area (as is norm for Christmas Eve) inside the cramped bar area against their wishes (claiming noise complaints, despite the years of evidence contrary to this). When confronted, the manager either responds with a barrage of expletives or forces those (many) discontent out of the pub and hides behind the bouncers like a coward. The bouncers, who you can only feel sorry for at this point, being caught in the crossfire, are entirely sympathetic to the locals but justly want to return to their families for Christmas Eve without issue. The management, despite the just criticism, then decide to double cross the bouncers, falsely informing them that the establishment is licensed to remain open until 0400hrs if only customers would only go inside (and not sing Christmas carols outside…). Unfortunately as this information is passed on and as convincing as the bouncers could try to be, the locals, who know full well the licensing hours of their local pub, see through the deceit and are further enraged by the unnecessary oppression forced upon them. It is a shame the local pub has fallen into such low esteem. It has genuinely been a fantastic drinking and eating establishment in the past however until the current management change their attitude and respect locals (without trying to make a quick buck), it will fail to draw the required numbers to survive.

Lovely pub! They had a live singer, Kuran Dohil-Lynch, who was incredible. A must-see act 🔥 Great service and good selection of spirits. Pizza was very nice too!

Visited today and made to feel very welcome by Kasia who went off site to get coffee for us. Very accommodating and knowledgeable of the local area . Only wish I wasn’t driving so could have tried a guest ale or two! Heartfelt customer service and cookie the pooch was the icing on the cake . Thank you

If here has done food, I have never had it but the place has a fantastic atmosphere and hosts interesting nights of all sorts including Irish music and a quiz.

Had a really nice evening at the pub quiz. Didn't win sadly, but a nice crowd. The half time cheese and biscuits was a nice touch!

This was an interesting lunch stop on our ramble incorporating Burnham Beeches. Unexpectedly found no food available but the pleasant landlord/barman was more than happy for us to eat our own - either brought from home or bought from nearby cafes/shops. I opted for a hot meal from Duran's bistro lounge which suited me fine, and coffee as I didn't think to check if that was available from the bar. We asked about the food situation - as it's advertised outside as being available. Maybe a casualty of COVID but told that it's not currently viable with only a few tables in the bar. Possibly barbecues in the summer - again with people bringing their own food to put on the barbecue.

Lively, noisy, interesting. Very very little attention paid to covid rules!!!!!!!! Young persons pub but some oldies in there.

Friendly staff. Very clean and sanitisers available. Great selection of ales. We will be visiting again soon.

Great food, especially good Sunday roasts, excellent selection of ales and wines, and pub kept very shipshape shape.

Reading other reviews, I’m appalled at how unfair some people can be. If you want fine dining and sparkling ‘restaurant’ service, you can easily find it nearby. But if you want a well delivered pint, or other pub tipple, and possibly fancy some well-prepared pub grub, at very reasonable prices for the area, you’ll be glad you found this place. I walk to it from my home by Burnham Beeches, but it’s also very convenient for anyone using the A355 – plenty of parking. The new management have improved the place considerably. It no longer smells of dogs, though you’re still welcome to bring one. In summary, an unpretentious, friendly little place that is an asset within our community.

The interior of the pub itself is well decorated and cosy. The drinks however are not the freshest and aren't poured well.

We came here with our family for a drink after a long dog walk. We were very excited to have a well deserved drink. However, the blonde girl behind the bar who I feel, on observation, may be with the landlord, was very rude and completely blank faced with the entire service. It was very rude and never in my years have I experienced such poor service. Shame for the pub.

Came in at 11.15, opening hours state open till 12, barmaid states last orders were taken at 11. An hour before closing time with people with full pints? Disappointing customer service.

A boards still out and no sign on the door..but shut, word is no beer till friday..locals turning up to walk back home again...due to a cellar refit? Communication?

We ate here and that was a big mistake. We eat out about 3-4 times a week, and this was the worst meal I've had in 2-3 years. Yes, that bad. Cheap chicken and sausages (tasted metallic and obviously frozen value sausages, chicken tenders from the freezer also) that I would not feed to my dog. The bill came to £30. Why?? Disgraceful. I really think something must have happened here recently, because this really is not what I would expect from a decent Greene king pub. I feel aggrieved at having paid for this tripe. Good choice of beers, so if that's your thing, it might be Ok, but for food, suggest Dixy Fried chicken, Favorite Chicken or any other failed KFC franchise might be better-disgraceful.

Great atmosphere, somthing hard to find in pubs now days.

What a great time had by all! Such a choice of beers, cider and especially the gin selection made for a perfect night. The staff were very friendly and made us feel really welcome. Will be back for more soon!

Good atmosphere and drinks at decent price

Me and my partner decided to drive from london to try the ribs after looking at the website menu . I tried to call the pub before a few times with no success in order to reserve a table . We decided to go anyway , when we got there we were told there's no food today. There was no apology or reason given for this . Very disappointed after we drove for 45 mins to get there and looking forward to have dinner .

We had the a portion of the hot sauce wings, which were nice cooked and spicy. We ordered a small portion that turned out to be huge haha. Loved it though. Then we ordered a burger each, again nicely cooked and tasted lovely. Biggest Burgers this side of town for sure. Really attentive staff, well looked after. Nice easy eat place. Good selection of drinks too. Enjoyed it

Really friendly and comfy pub. Catching the last of the summer rays in it's great beer garden with funky furniture. Good food too washed down with a nice tribute ale. Thumbs up from me

This pub has a great burger menu. I tried the buttermilk chicken and it was delicious! Good range of drinks, friendly staff and dog friendly! We will be back!

Food is portioned well and incredibly tasty at a fair price. This pub is the perfect stop if you're visiting/in Farnham common

Very good selection of real ales (10)also 4 lagers and a range of ciders. Plus 10 different Gins and several different vodkas and whisky. It is now my home from home.

Excelente pub, recientemente renovado a un estándar muy alto. Buena selección de cervezas y licores, incluso tienen un dispensador de bombas jaeger! Un personal amable que le asegurará una verdaderamente agradable. También hay un jardín cerrado en la parte trasera con cómodos asientos y mesas donde periódicamente es disfrutado por todos un hog asado. We run (hash) ever Tuesday evening come rain or shine from a pubs within a 10-mile radius of High Wycombe, then all meet back at the pub we set off from for drinks, chips, and chat. All the pubs are assessed on 4 categories, (each marked out of 10 points), which we then rank during the year on our website. SummaryA cosy real-ale haven - any pub which has its own ‘Beer Bat’ to assist with tasting a wider variety of ales has my vote straight off! If they could sort out their non-beer offerings, this pub could be a contender for ‘Pub of the Year’, but if you only drink beer, you won’t really care will you?Beer 9/10Chiltern 300 at £3.60 was pronounced ‘fantastic’ by most of the assembled hash, apart from Hawkeye who harped on about ‘the almost complete absence of bacteria’; i.e. ‘fantastic’ in Hawkeye-language. There were plenty of other ales on (I can’t recall all the names since I wasn’t drinking last night - the curse of a dry-ish January) ranging from the mass-produced Old Speckled Hen to the more individual Christmas ales - let’s hope they don’t get taken down on the 12th night as well! On a different note, I spied Matt R carrying in 3 beers in a special wooden holder, but didn’t think anything of it at the time - it was only when I checked later, I discovered this was a ‘Beer Bat’, comprising three 1/3rd pint glasses to allow a decent sample of each ale…almost worth a point in it’s own right there!Non-beer 5/10Disappointing here. So, ’twas a lively gathering, complete with live strip show, as Hawkeye (dressed as one of the Village People) proceeded to drop his shorts to show us his wares. Sorry, that should have read ‘wear & tears’; i.e. a whopping great bruise caused by falling off his bike. A very pleasant hashmosphere indeed, with comfy couches and everybody all together in 1 room - quite limited parking in the car park though, and a busy through road, although plenty of side roads available (fairly) nearby

Excellent atmosphere in this local community pub. I visited as I wanted to watch some football, have a great selection of ales and enjoy some good food, I was not disappointed. Whatever the occasion, get down the stag and have a great time. Kat the bar manager is always there to greet you with a smile. An all round fantastic pub.

I had a spontaneous visit to Stag and Hounds and was greeted by a great atmosphere, wonderful customer service and lots of friendly community faces. I had a few drinks and was very impressed with the quality of both the drinks and the service. Nice hooks under the bar for hanging of coats or jackets. Nice seating area, large tv screens, and much needed garden area as it gets quite hot inside (probably a summer thing). Will definitely visit again and perhaps join in on a quiz sometime. Highly recommend it.

We stopped for Lunch and it was awful We also tried it couple of weeks later for Dinner and all I can say is stay away from the Sea Food Platter

This pub has improved vastly over the last 3/4 years, always full of locals early doors, which does create a nice atmosphere, but it does have an identity crisis. The décor is quite oppressive, could have been cosy but for some reason isn't, probably the dark painted ceiling and the layout of the premises. I have eaten here, but it can become quite noisy, so usually just keep it to a drink with friends at early doors and then go elsewhere to eat. Staff are very friendly and hopefully the success of the pub will grow.

Great pub, great atmosphere. Crazy busy but you'll understand why. Appeals to all ages. Every beverage available to suit anyone. Lovely outside areas. Chef is extremely experienced and the menu will suit all tastes (always ask if something you fancy... Can only say no). Can't rate this place enough.

Stopped of to have lunch for first time, will not be a second. My Husband & I just wanted a sandwich no sandwich menue I was told they do not have much call for sandwiches. The barman just read menue of the computer screen we should have left then. There where no normal sandwiches to be had. When our meal can it was tasty with French fries I would not have had fries if I had seen then on the menue. Service was slow as we where the only people having food On paying there was no bill to see how much the sandwiches where or drinksExpencive I must say. On saying that the barman was very pleasant & the friendly dog.

My partner Frank and I visited the Stag & Hounds last night for a meal for the first time. Frank had the Sirloin Steak and I had the Steak & Ale pie. Frank's steak was thick, big and cooked to perfection, the chips and accompanying veg were extremely good too. My Steak & Ale pie was freshly cooked, the steak was extremely lean and tender, and all the veg (mashed potato, creamed swede and red cabbage) were all very tasty as well. The prices were £16 for the steak meal and £12 for mine, which I thought was extremely good value for the quality of food we received. The Manager was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and his bar staff were very attentive. I would thoroughly recommend the Stag & Hounds to all my friends and family for a great place to eat. We'll be back!

Four of us booked for a Saturday night dinner. The pub was packed with noisy blokes, we had to ask for the loud music to be turned down as we couldn't hear ourselves speaking. The service was slow but the food was very good when it eventually arrived.Afterwards we wanted a coffee but were told the machine was broken and when we paid the bill with credit card, there was no receipt available, so had to go back the next day to get one. The waitress, who looked about 14 with a ring through her nose, was definitely not deserving of a tip as she seemed to know nothing. Bottom line - don't go here on a Saturday night if you want a quiet dinner.

I've been here quite a few times now and myself and my family love it. The roasts are worth going for alone! Great value for money and I can't stress enough how gorgeous the Sunday roasts are. It's a dog friendly pub and the service is great. Very relaxed atmosphere and its decor has recently been updated with a new seating area outside at the front of the pub. I'll be returning soon!
