Cannot believe this restaurant has over 4 star. Food isn’t great. I’m not sure as to why they charge 10% service charge when the service was horrible. Please train your staff to treat all the customers the same (if you know you know). Horrible. Will never visit again nor will I recommend anybody else to.

I think this was my first visit, and my what an experience! The food is to die for, but don’t expect your standard Madras, Rogan Josh, etc.* ! This is a culinary journey into authentic Indian dishes, all served with a polite and engaging flourish. We were fortunate to be part of a group visit, and were treated to some of the background story, which was most insightful! Drinks selection - particularly wine - was pretty special for a restaurant serving Indian food, but the dishes are exceptionally tasty and so well-presented. * - if you *do* want a traditional Madras or Rogan Josh, just ask and I’m sure they would do their best to accommodate more mainstream tastes for you!

If you decide against eating here you will massively miss out. This is not your bog standard curry. It’s exceptional. Curry meets fine dining with no exceptions. Quality ingredients freshly prepared to create a mind blowing plate of food for a really fair price. On top of that the wine list and service are absolutely spot on. Jame Bertie and Fran 👌

Ordered starters, mains and sides. My partner’s food portions were ridiculously small for what we paid. Service was terrible. I’ve been 3 times before and it’s been wonderful, this time was shockingly bad. I couldn’t even eat half of my main or the sides, I wasn’t uncomfortable in the environment. So we asked for a doggy bag, to take away our food etc, the waitress mixed 2 dishes together (don’t understand why) and forced it into a container, we hadn’t touched our naan bread and we didn’t get that back. We didn’t get over half of our food in the doggy bag. . . . I was glad to leave. We will not be coming back, I will not be recommending anyone to dine here either. There was only one waitress that was polite and kind to us, everyone else serving us was hit and miss, really didn’t enjoy the vibe at all and couldn’t enjoy the food at home as they’d mixed the dishes together 😢

Having been here before we were excited to bring friends who had never been. I booked a couple of weeks ago by telephone for 7pm - 31st aug. Arrived to be told , no its 8pm. I said we definitely booked for 7pm. They did find us a table downstairs. It was in the middle if the room. The tables for 4 are too small. When you get your drinks and your food on the table its very awkward. Service was hit and miss. New menu wasnt as nice as the previous time. My starter I picked as on menu it was supposed to be mild. It was very spicy and far too big . Thr other starters were very small. The mains were ok but mine was very small with lots of sauce. Waited ages with no one coming to see if we wanted dessert or more drinks. We asked for the bill , we were then asked if we wanted dessert. The service charge is already included otherwise we wouldnt have tipped.

Had dinner there, paneer as main Meal is expensive (13 for vegetarian main), average at best. Very gritty texture, feels like something is stuck in my throat the whole night after it, the next day had diarrhoea. Poor service- slow, needed to get food menus myself in the end, waitress spilled water over my friend, table was wobbly (which they put a little cardboard at the legs mid-meal) 100% not recommended, please go to another restaurant Edit: went to A&E a few days later as food was still stuck in throat. They had to remove it with forceps from throat - a small piece of herb from the curry. I’m not saying this will happen to you if you go eat there but my friends all agreed the paneer certainly a very gritty dish. From the comments of the restaurant they don’t seem to want to improve their dish as it receives “compliments and good feedback”. Just be careful. Also: I think the staff was friendly, but it was definitely not busy when I was there.

I recently dined at Tapasya and my experience was disappointing. Despite requesting my dishes to be made less spicy, they were still quite hot. To mitigate the spice, the restaurant voluntarily provided me with yogurt, but I was unpleasantly surprised to find that I was charged for it on the bill. They also did not reduce it despite me mentioning it. Additionally, the dishes were not value for money. This left me with a bad impression of their customer service. I won't be returning.

We came here to eat food that we chose not what she choose for us!. Also she asked about the drinks, I told here I want cola light, when she came she said I dont know the cola for whom and just put it in the table and leave. She was rude and disrespected us in this restaurant. Also they added 10% service charge in my bill, idk why maybe because of the bad service that we had there.

Tiny portions of food (I had the junglee kebab) and higher than average prices The wine list is far more extensive than the range of food, so that tells you where their priorities are. Over inflated ambition for an Indian restaurant, aiming to be upmarket but has clearly lost its roots. The taste of the food was nothing spectacular and fell short of anything memorable. India is THE home of spice and flavour, so where is it? Tapasya is a Sanskrit word that literally means "generation of heat and energy"... yet none from the lack lustre food. There is no coming back from an average taste... and for an Indian restaurant, that is a crime. If you're an experienced Indian restaurant diner, Tapasiya won't blow your skirt up.

We love our lunchtime Thali at Tapasya. Lovely selection of foods, which include starter, mains, naan bread and a dessert. A meat free option, too. A bit like a taster menu. Always absolutely delicious. Always very attentive staff. It's a huge restaurant with an upstairs gallery full of seating, too. Lunchtimes tend to not be too busy - at least the times we've visited. That doesn't detract from the dining experience. A beautiful restaurant very nicely furnished and set out. Mixed selection of 2, 4 and more settings. Bench seating as well as chairs. Lovely bar area fully stocked with an array of beverages. Open kitchen so you can see the chefs busy at their craft if inclined. Disabled toilet on the ground floor. Very nice toilet facilities upstairs for all other diners. Parking is available on street (if you're lucky) and there's a pay & display across the way from the restaurant.

My wife and I had lunch. Tapas style and small portions. We had a glass of house wine each and then a bottle to share. The lunch menu is supposed to include a glass of house wine for an additional £3. When the bill came we had been charged £6 for a glass of house wine. When I queried this we were told we hadn’t made ourselves clear about having lunch so had been given a 175 m glass rather than the 125m included in the lunch deal. So we had been charged £3 for 50m of house wine. This is equivalent to a bottle of house wine costing £45. Suffice to say we’ll not be returning 😂

The fact that an otherwise very nice looking restaurant in Hull had only 6 or 7 tables occupied at 8pm on a wet Friday night in July should serve as all the information you need that diners are staying away for good reason. The desire to offer "alternative" Indian food is admirable but failing to offer a normal menu is probably why the customers are staying away in droves. My "Pork Vindaloo" was a nicely cooked pork chop with a side of average potatoes and a separate bowl of ketchup mixed with Tabasco (I'm guessing) and was enough of reason to remember that this is not somewhere we'll be returning to. Fantastic decor and bags of potential but quite frankly even if they did offer customers a wider menu for those who thought they wanted a more traditional choice (who would want that?!!) I think they've probably established a reputation around the city as an expensive restaurant that doesn't serve Indian food. Expect a shut down and rebranding soon.

So started with 3 very small scallops. All of the food was very tasty but you need the sides to make up the meal. The desert menu had recommended wines to accompany but they didn't have them available. The service was very efficient, smiley and friendly. I don't like loud music when eating but here couldn't hear any. With a large empty restaurant it needed something to lift the atmosphere. Would I go again? "fusion" food which actually manages to take away the enjoyment from both Eastern and Western cuisines rather than adding to it No balance of flavours here, just heaps of a sngle spice. My wifes dish was absolutely pungent with garam masala, so much so the lamb could not be tasted, it was barely edible. Six of us dined and only one could finish their main course, the rest found theirs to be average to unpalatable. I think the chef and proprietors have gone down the fusion route to be different but have lost their way with the cooking. Relatively expensive and for the actual quality of tastes on offer, it's overpriced. On the plus side, starters were ok, the decor is attractive and the staff were pleasant. Wouldn't return if it was free, but its all down to personal palatability

Sadly some of the food did not live up to the description or the price tag. Starter was delicious, fish lightly battered with a beautiful spicy mayo. Main was lamb shank, it was definitely heat over flavour....the sauce was grainy, as if someone had just tipped a jar of curry powder into it. Such a disappointing dish. Felt very rushed as well, approximately an hour from entering to paying the bill which at £90 a couple for two courses, a glass of wine and two beers, is expensive in my opinion. The worst part of the visit, we ordered a vegetarian dish, it had no meat in it, and it came with a decent size fish bone. Luckily none of us have dietary requirements.
