Tate Modern in Southwark

Great to spend a few hours here with my sister last week. Not all of the artwork was to our taste, but we're so lucky to have free access to cultural venues in London and get to see work from mainstream artists as well as those who aren't so well-known (to me at least). We only visited the free exhibitions but noticed that you can become a member and get access to paid exhibitions too, so that would be worthwhile if you lived in or visited London on a regular basis.

You can take the elevator up to enjoy the view, but you can’t go outside recently

On Sundays absolutely and always free, full of cool kids, kids, mums, dads, grandparents, in short the whole human panorama, I was thinking instead of those beautiful Sundays spent in mega shopping centers like zombies...

Free entry,no need to book ahead.As a converted power station.the Tate Modern is an impressively large and bright venue to display modern art and extremely large installations.

Long time wanted to return.. Bought a few stuff in shop on sale.. If nit on sale they very pricey lol. Gud exhibitions

There are many free exhibitions and a few paid exhibitions for additional viewing! The art shop is also full of very colorful items. Go in and there is a cabinet inside the door on the right. You can freely use the locker with the key inserted. One coin is required as a deposit (& lock). If this is your first time at Tate Modern and you want to see it in its entirety, we recommend starting from the 4th floor and looking down from the building inside the door on the left!

Great place to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon

The art on display is amazing. I like particularly that it consyantly changes which means that i visit every few months to be re-inspired.

For those who love (modern) art, free entrance, some exhibitions do require a fee.

Great to pop in with the kids and get some culture.

Love that it's free great shops to have a bite lot's off expeditions and the area is great to walk around

A must visit every time I'm in London, if just to see what's in display in the Turbine Hall. Their paid exhibitions are often compelling, but you can also view just the free exhibits and leave feeling fulfilled.

Baffled, as usual, by the installations and some of the paintings are confusing. Nevertheless worth a wander round

Very worthwhile. We thought we would only stay there for an hour, but that didn't work out. There were almost 3 of them, and we didn't see nearly everything.

Visited so many times and will come again! The best art gallery in London.

Great place to visit whilst in London

Tate café, was busy and involved await. But coffee when got was excellent.

Cool architecture, spectacular collection of art, absolutely worth visiting!

This contemporary art museum is wonderful. You have to see it, it's an old factory. Enormous. Walking through its spaces is to realize how impressive the place is. The museum is free. The store has many books and cloth museum bags that are iconic. The store has very good things to see. There is a restaurant on the museum terrace on the top floor. To get to the museum you can do so from Saint Paul's Cathedral and cross the Millennium Bridge on foot. It's a 10 min pass. Very nice and the views of the Thames and the buildings are super good. Before reaching the museum there are many benches to have a picnic. And very close to the museum is the Shakespeare theater so you can visit both very easily. The museum, although it is huge, really has only a few rooms. You can see it in two hours.

It is only in London that you can get to a Museum of this quality and see amazing art at no cost ( donation if you are up to). Plenty of things to see There are shops, a cafe and a bar.

My favorite contemporary art gallery. Always up to date.

Huge but has a great atmosphere, very varied exhibits so you won't like or understand them all, but you won't be bored. Multiple shops for purchase of all things relating to art. Only tried the cafe on floor three not much food choice but coffee was lovely.

My first and longest visit was to the restaurant on the top floor. The view of the Thames and St. Paul's was mesmerizing. The service was also very good.

Not a fan of modern art so it's a biased comment. The building's connection are a bit confusing

You can enter several exhibitions only for money. It was a bit of chaos, disorganized showrooms one after the other.

Renovated building, excellent structure. Very interesting exhibition. I was very happy to see Brazilian artists at the Exhibition

Came for lunch in the members bar. Amazing view, great food, a little pricey. The staff were very friendly.

Zaneli muholi, brilliant exhibition of photographs.

Yes, this is the place of art indeed, dont let it fool you, they have this majestic piece of art: the color "blue, let me repeat, the color blue, nothing less and nothing more than just blue. it is truly magnificient, beautiful and I spent the whole day interpreting this painting and could really feel the artist speaking directly to my soul. Do not just take my word for it, see the picture instead...

Lots of amazing free exhibitions as well as regular paid exhibitions.

If you're a fan of modern art I recommend getting an annual membership. I love a morning here. Coffee and cake in the members lounge, walk round the exhibitions and then always great to have a look in the gift shop. If you also want view go to the espresso bar

Incredible place, the entrance through the turbine room is so majestic. The view from the upstairs cafes is fantastic. On the other hand, the permanent collections are of varying quality. And the Yayoi Kusama temporary exhibition was overbooked.

I'm not the biggest fan of art. I like John Constable's paintings

Lots of marketing, little artistic quality, turbine hall: a very well-financed occurrence

Super spacious compared to the British Museum, the exhibitions are varied and for all tastes

What a lovely surprise to see Salvador Dali's "Metamorphosis of Narcissus". It was actually smaller than I expected.

As always the Tate Modern does not disappoint whether you opt for paying exhibitions or free ones this building is magnificent

If you don't know it, you should take a look at the collections. These with the architecture of the building and the view are an excellent first impression.

Slightly pricey for what it was, but loads of other free exhibitions

I felt like Augusta (and my husband like Remo) at the Venice Biennale in Sordi's film...a little too...forward for my tastes

It may take a little longer at the entrance, as any bags must be checked for security reasons. It is a wonderful museum. There is a special room for creative souls, where you can use an interactive drawing program. What you create is exhibited on the large wall in the room.

One of the best art galleries in the known universe. Surprisingly good food in the corner cafe bar. Not cheap but actually filling, tasty and healthy.

Museum with free entry (like all public ones in London) without the possibility of booking (with the exception of paid internal exhibitions). The building is very large but the visit is concentrated on 3/4 floors with a fairly large collection and several very interesting works.

Always pure joy. Happy to see all the efforts made by London museums to make the works of women artists more visible ❤️

It is always nice to revisit this place. Free for all, chill atmosphere, nice views from the balcony.

A free experience in London. Interesting, intense, different. I'm not a fan of modern art but you have to recognize the place and the history.

Tate Modern's collection of modern and visual art is impressive; its sound tower made of stacked radios is even more impressive. In addition, the installation art in the lobby is even more unique.

Very nice museum. Lots of beautiful, unmissable works. And as always with modern art, some beautiful hoaxes...

It's a fantastic place to go. I go there for 1 hour every day during my lunchtime.

A large museum with great diversity and free too! The perfect opportunity to cultivate yourself!

What can one say? Best modern art collection in Europe. Always full but not as overcrowded as British Museum and the like. Catch one of the free tours, usually at 12, 13, 14, or 15h. Please beware that not all tours are on all days. There is a phone number on the Tate Modern website informing about schedules.

The Mire Lee installation is thoroughly evocative, both grotesque and thought provoking.

Good building, not many people. You have cafes with views of the river and St. Paul's Cathedral.

Very interesting museum, both from an architectural point of view and for some of the works present. Very convenient even if you have a suitcase: we were able to leave it in the cloakroom for free

When I see the ratings given (almost 5 stars), I realize that I am truly uneducated and resistant to modern art 🤔. Honestly not for me but there’s something for everyone! So go take advantage of this free London museum and open yourself up to this weird world 😉

To have ! An Interesting presentation of the works For all ages

Fabulous. The Electric Dreams Art and Technology exhibition was a visual feast with many of the exhibits stimulating perceptions of movement, space, and shapes. The "permanent" exhibitions are always worth a visit, as is the whole complex.

For modern art enthusiasts. It is a bit arb for those that are not. Facilities are excellent and the shop is spacious. Fun for kids in the drawing room. No need to book ahead for the experience as it's a niche market.

Seen so many amazing exhibitions at the Tate Modern over the years. Great free collection alongside regular new stuff. Plus as a bonus they rejected sponsorship from the fossil fuel industry 🎉

Loads to look at and try and make out what and why lol

I always love visiting Tate Modern. Lovely exhibitions and interesting artwork to discover. There is no entry fee but if you are going to see a specific exhibition then I would definitely book tickets in advance.

Nice installations and not too crowded

I went not really sure what to expect and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s absolutely bizarre from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. Just when you go no they couldn’t ….you are surprised by what is on display around the corner. It’s really popular so encourage people to get there early and plan in advance. Not sure if a lot of it is there to shock people or challenge your ideas, but the most interesting part is reading the artist’s describe their work. For example one artist wrote over two paragraphs on how the test screen on an old CRT television made them feel, I personally found the test screen annoying as I remember it as a kid, when a TV show wasn’t working, but the associated text was fascinating. Lots of weird and wonderful stuff that was way over my head with regard to appreciating it as art but each to their own. Highly recommend visiting if nothing else to challenge your own ideas on what or what isn’t ART.

Enjoyed architecture of the building so much , plenty to explore .. Great staff to support the exploration.. my wife walked back through her art degree .. lovely to hear her squeals of delight .

A fabulous place to spend a few hours, it is very enjoyable even if you are not an art connoisseur, the exhibition space is also spectacular. It is worth visiting the Tate Modern if you go to London

Always very interesting - really worth seeing!

Tate Modern, while a renowned museum, might not be for everyone. The exhibits, though significant in the modern art world, may leave some feeling disconnected or unimpressed if they are not drawn to the more experimental or avant-garde style of work. Nice public museum. Very big. You can come back here for several days and still not have seen everything

Nice free modern art gallery. It was a good way to spend an hour, in the warmth, looking around floors and floors of art. Not too busy, good gift shops.
